Measurement of Respiratory Signals through oximeter

heHi, This is Madhusudhanan Natarajan from Anjalai Ammal Mahalingam Engg College, Kovilvenni. I would like to ask some queries related to the DAQ products.Actually, We are going to upgrade the research work of oximeter in sleep monitoring system. For that, they have given some requirements. * To interface an oximeter (sensor) to the above said particular DAQ equipment. * Oximeter is used as a sensor and the incoming respiratory analog signals that should be converted to an analogous(digital) form by means of DAQ. Further process will be by using NI LabView. Is there any specific Data Acquisition System Interface for the above? Also, to monitor the respiratory signals. How to view the above?(Normal and Abnormal breathing) Please give me the specifications for the above.
Regards,
Madhu.

As you were advised in your other thread, nearly any DAQ device will probably be adequate for your purpose.
You will need a device with an analog to digital converter.  The resolution of the converter can probably be anything from 8 bits or more.  You will need hardware timed conversion of at least 100 samples per second; 1000 samples per second might be better.  The USB-6008/6009 devices can meet these requirements.
Extracting the respiratory rate modulation can be a challenge, depending on how much interference may exist on the signals. Search for Heart Rate Variability and similar terms to find what others have done.
There is also a Bio-medical board with participants who may have similar interests.

How to measure a current signal with NI 6211?

    Hi Clecio,
This is a charge accelerometer. It is different from the IEPE accelerometers that outputs a voltage signal.
You need a charge amplifier. Then according to the charge amplifier output we can select an appropriate module to measure the signal.
It is not possible to measure charge accelerometers with NI 9234 directly.

  • Recording a Line Signal through Motu 828mk3 into Cubase, Please help!

    Hello everyone,
So i use Motu 828mk3, pair of m-audio monitors, I have logic but find Cubase more compatible for my style. I want to record a line in signal from my DJ mixer (allen&heath xone 62, pair of Pionner cdjs-1000).
So i connect the main outs (xlr to 1/8") into my Motu analog 1-2 ins. The meter on the Motu reads the signal, i expected the signal to come through my monitors although they are silent. I dont understand what blocks the Main Outs of my Motu.(If i play a song on itunes or a sample in cubase it plays through my monitors)
I set everything correct on my Motu Audio Setup, i put Default input as my Analog 1-2, and default main outs as Main Outs.
The Cue mixer which comes with Motu reads the in signal also. I tried to get it connected though cubase too, but im assuming that once i get motu release the signal through my outs i will be able to connect it through cubase.
Seems like i tried everything in my knowledge, now i need your help. Thank you folks

Yes i checked on My system preferences, everything is there for Motu, it reads the input and it send out sound from itunes youtube etc.
In cubase, well first i feel like the input should come out the Main outs of the Motu even if wouldnt want to record anything right ?
And yes in cubase everything seems to be set to record, drivers are motu on, setting are set, the handle (little speaker) is on to record, in preferences of Device setup motu it set active.

  • NI 9239, can a /-10V data acquisition card be used to measure 0-20V signal?

    Hello everyone,
I have NI9239 daq card, which has input range of +/-10V. Is it possible to measure 0-20V signal on same daq? if yes what would be the best approach?
    Thanks!
Kudos are (always) welcome for the good post. :-)

You'd need to level-shift your 20V signal down 10 Volts. Then you can compensate for it in software.

PXI-6224 DAQ Generates a pulse through CTR0/PFI12 port. When the pulse reaches its trailing edge,PXI-5122 digitizer starts to acquire a voltage waveform.
I think it should be done with routing signal through PXI_Trigger to RTSI,like my vi attached. But to the item I test, there is no referenced result,I am not sure if its result correct, even though the vi works OK. Please help me check it,thanks.

    Thank you for your answer,
I'm now sure that its not possible to detect the analog signal level from the multiplexed signal arriving on DAQ 6052E.
What do you think about a hardware solution which would consist to use an other 6052E DAQ on which the multiplexed analog signal would be connected.
I think this way has to be explored but I don't know exactly the CPCI pin used to multiplex signal.
    Thanks for all

  • Saffire Pro 24(Non DSP) Logic Studio 9 Signal through interface but no signal through logic, PLEASE HELP!

I recently purchased a saffire pro 24, rode nt1000 condeser mic, and Logic 9. My Problem is that I don't know how to get a signal through the DAW. There is a signal through the interface I can hear the mic through the head phones. With Mix Control I have the routing preset set to "DAW Tracking" with line output 3 and 4 set to Analog 1 so I can hear the Mic. All the other settings are untouched. On Logic I have everything untouched except for preference>audio I set the input and output to saffire with a buffer size of 256 but I can't hear ANYTHING through the DAW only the interface itself. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. This is my first studio set up I have toyed around with garageband a bit.

    AndySeng wrote:
thanks! it worked while recording but the gain is real high on the interface for only a low signal on the DAW. How do you turn on monitering?
The Rode mic needs Phantom power, do you have that turned on? (if not, turn the input gain down first)
The audio interface will have a gain control for the mic, it may or may not have sensitivity switches that can give you more gain, either that or a trim control.
The software monitoring is well... right next to where you set your interface and I/O buffer.
Two cents of advice, reading the manual (over and over) of your hardware interface is a must. In order to make decent recordings you will have to know and understand your hardware. Same with Logic, it's pretty easy to get going on Logic but to use more than 2 or 3% of what the program is capable of the manual and online help is a necessity. Also your mic.
I tell clients that wish to learn Logic to pretend they have no Internet access, just the program and the manuals + online help.
They usually tell me to leave at that point.

  • I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

Very few 3rd party wireless extenders will work with an Apple router, so your best bet is always to use an extender that is the same brand as the main router. An AirPort Express is a popular choice for this type of application with another Apple router.
If you had a Cisco router, then a Cisco extender would be your best bet.  Same for Netgear, etc.
But......a wireless extender can only "extend" the quality of wireless signal that it receives, and not much of a wireless signal is going to make it through a brick wall, so whether any extender might do what you want is open to question.
You won't know whether an extender using wireless to connect will work to your satisfaction in your home until you actually try it out in your home.
The performance will always be much better if you can connect the extending device back to the main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection.
If it is not possible to run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet power line adapters might be able to send the signal over the existing AC power lines in your home. The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.
In practice though, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you decide to try a pair of adapters, it might be a good idea to understand the store's return policies before you buy.

  • Measuring when a signal reaches equilibrium

I have a thermocouple signal that increases and then flattens off reaching an equilibrium, at this point I would like to do some calculations using the amplitude of this equilibrium level. I wondered what vi's are the best in order to do this sort of mathematics, Any questions should I stick the data through a low pass/smoothing filter and then differentiate remove the initial flat level (baseline at beginning) as the dT/dt increases I wait until it goes back to zero which would suggest that its reached equilibrium. Any one got any example code or suggest some vi's I should look at?
    Nice

I view TC signals as very susceptible to noise glitches, so I'd want to make myself pretty insenstive to such outliers, or find a way to remove them first.  An outline of the kind of thing I've done in the past:
    1. Calc mean and std dev, then identify all points > 3*std dev's from mean.  Remove them.  (Personally, I'd make sure I used a population of >100 samples to start with).  If more then, say, 5% of the population was removed, I'd acquire a new set of samples and start over with step 1.
    2. On the remaining data, find the best fit straight line and evaluate the slope.  If avg temp rate-of-change too large, return to step 1.  If flat enough, continue.
    3. Calc an average value of remaining data.  With noise--susceptible data, I tend to prefer using a Median rather than a Mean.  When the actual data is pretty well-behaved, the two types of average are very similar.  Median are much less sensitive to glitches though.
Your filter idea could also work if you have a low enough cutoff freq and high enough attenuation rate to truly squelch the glitches.  I don't think I've got the best intuition about filter choices and settings.  I've gotten good results quicker with my brute-force approach, probably because I have a better intuitive feel for it.  If you're good with filters, that's probably a better technical solution.  I'd still recommend a best-fit line over dozens of samples as a simpler measure of average slope.

  • How can I measure 2 floating signals with a DAQ?

Hello, I have a DAQcard AI-16XE-50 with a BNC2110 adapter to connect signals.
I need to read 2 analog floating signals (less then 1 V, DC).
The configuration of the DAQcard si DIFF Input mode.
I tried to read the first signal and everythings was OK, then I tried to read the second and everything was Ok, but when I tried to read them togheter the values were modified from original values, even measuring them with an external voltimeter.
How I have to connect signals to my BNC-2110? I need some Bias resistor? or what?
    Thanks
    Lorenzo

    Hi lcaggio,
You're BNC-2210 is designed to work in differential mode with your DAQ board. It sounds like this is how you have things configured though. Here are my main suggestions for resolving this.
    1) Make sure that the channel switch is set to "FS".
    2) Make sure that your DAQ board has the BNC-2110 configured as an accessory. (accessed through board Properties in Measurement & Automation Explorer)
    3) Make sure that your DAQ board is configured for the correct voltage range and that your inputs are configured for Differential.
Now, by default, the NI-DAQ driver will sample channels as quickly as it can between channels. Since your channels are floating, it is possible that there is channel cross-talk between your two channels and that is why it l
ooks good when you sample the channel individually but looks bad when you sample both channels together. This is corrected by increasing the period of time between sampling each channel. This is called the "Interchannel Delay".
    4) The following Knowledge Base describes and links to documents that mention the importance of the interchannel delay.
What Are the Minimum and Maximum Values for the Interchannel Delay Setting on my DAQ Board?
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/9AE87416C8792FC286256D190058C7D3?OpenDocument
    5) Connect an analog channel, both CH+ and CH-, to AIGND. This will ground the channel. Then sammple your first analog channel, followed by the grounded channel and then your second analog channel. The ground channel helps with channel cross-talk (channel ghosting).
Anyway, hope these suggestions help your project. Have a good day.

  • I want to use the Function Generator VI to send command signals through the NI 7344 motion controller. This will be a closed loop servo valve system. I want to be able to change from say a square wave to a sine wave on the fly. Idea's?

I am going to run tests that require an actuator to move using various types of arbitrary waveforms such as sine or square. The NI 7344 is hooked to the UMI that is going through a driver for a servo valve. The loop is analog and it is closed. I have played with some of the examples but can't get it to work. I have used the function generator VI to generate a signal but I think I am using the wrong input VI to the motion control board. When I use what I have it moves the servo and then stops. It doesn't continually generate the signal.
I would love to use the controls on the function generator vi to control frequency and amplitude ect. Any help or pointer would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
I'm not clear on exactly how you want to use the generated data but I'm assuming they will be used as your target points.
There's a built-in example for motion called 'One-Axis Contour Move.vi'. This example demonstrates how to provide your target points as 1-D array. All you need to do is to replace the input array with the output of the function generator. In order to have it run continuously, use a while loop. You can further program your application so that it'll change the waveform on the fly by monitoring the user interface but this might be little little tricky as you will need to reset the move and load the new generated points while keeping track of your current position.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions regarding this
    application.

  • Help needed with getting Audio signal through to Mac Book Pro (using Logic 9 & Behringer Xenyx 1204USB mixer)

Ok so I am sure I have everything set up correctly,
Logic has recognised and is using the mixer, I have sound coming through the headphones when I put in a drum sample onto audio track, no signal going in from audio using the first channel. Audio channel is set up with correct inputs & outputs. USB setting used on mixer......phantom tried on and off with the condenser mic I am using.....still no luck not even changing from mi to guitar. No signal when recording audio...... AAAHHH HELP! Racking my brains!

Kudos to figuring it out yourself.
Yes, Logic is geared to the professional user, you will need to set up the program to your particular way of working, Logic was well developed for professional use long before Apple purchased it, it's not an Apple program per se. It's complex and offers a myriad number of choices so that it can be configured to many styles of working, there's often 3 or 4 ways to perform the same function.
Logic insists the user educate themselves... which is a good thing.

  • Have signal through Qosmio player, but cannot retrieve signal on WMC

I must be half way there, but having connected my NTL cable box to the Qosmio and having taken advice to get my signal via the player and the F2 button, I cannot then retrieve the signal when in Windows Media Centre.
As I am only interested in recording tv shows I really need to find a signal thru WMC. Please can anyone help as I find I never get the promised calls back from the technical support line. Oh I have followed all the instructions, but the scan through Windows Media Centre does not yield any signal.

    Hi,
If you aren't impressed with the picture in Qosmio Player, then it is unlikely to be any better in Media Centre. Running the signal from the RF-out port of the NTL box is not going to give you the best picture.
Do you have a spare scart port at the back of the box that you can use? If so, then it would be better to purchase a scart to composite (RCA) cable to make use of the monitor-in port on the Qosmio. The scart end goes into the NTL box and the composite end goes into the other adapter provided with the Qosmio, which then goes into the monitor-in port. This will give you a better signal. If your box outputs an S-Video signal, this would be even better. However, many boxes do not - you'd need to check the specs.
If you have no option other than to use the RF-out port on the NTL box, then I would suggest setting the signal up manually in Media Centre and when you get the option to enter a channel, put in the one that your NTL box broadcasts its signal on. It sounds like the Qosmio player detected this channel when it scanned for it, so use that to see which channel it was. Failing that, check the user manual for your box.
I would also suggest that you ensure that the latest TV tuner driver is installed and that you have all the latest Windows updates done.
By the way, if opt for the scart to composite cable, make sure it is the "scart --> composite" type and NOT "composite --> scart". If you get a cable with the signal path the wrong way around, it won't work and you'll get no picture. Some cables are bi-directional with an in/out switch, which is ok.
