Mechanism for Requesting RAW Support

Is there a way to request RAW support in Aperture for a new camera? I recently bought a Fuji HS10 camera that takes RAW + JPEG. The RAW format for the HS10 doesn't appear to be supported by Aperture (I am using Aperture 2 with OS 10.5.8, but I plan to upgrade to the latest system software and Aperture 3).
I thought that it might be useful to Apple and to us Apple customers if there were some routine mechanism (for instance an email address or a web page) for drawing Apple's attention to a need for support.

Hi dkherron;
You might try submitting feedback report here.

But I would not hold me breath on seeing any results really soon.

    well at least some of the people will be happy with the added camera support while others will not be ...
    by the way, you shouldn't have marked this as a question ... as there is no question ...

  • Nikon p7100 raw support.

    I have no problem importing raw files but I would like to know if the P7100 "profile" in aperture does automatic distortion correction and automatic chromatic aberation correction the same as the build in jpg engine in the camera.

    Sort of just venting.
    If it helps
    You can get an idea, of the time for the raw support to be released by looking at the Apple Support Downloads  page: http://support.apple.com/downloads/.
    Enter "Digital Camera RAW Support Update" into the searchfield, and you will see how frequently new raw support will be released.

  • Nikon D600 Raw support?

    Why is it taking so long to provide support for the Nikon D600 RAW files?  I love using Aperture and have established a great workflow that works for me and now i'm having to use Nikon s/w to process the files and import them back into my workflow.  This camera was announced 5 weeks ago.

  • D3s camera RAW support

    Anyone heard when there will be an update for D3s RAW support?
    Dan

    If you use 5.6 public beta to open D3s NEF, here is the correction I have found to make it the same as a D3 image.
    In my workflow the images are opened gamma 2.2 AdobeRGB, but everything else linear (zeroed straight) which looks very dull before processing.  The values given are relative to that, and represent how the D3s is being interpreted.
    First the image needs to be brightened by a straightline curve ending on 200=255.  Given the gamma 2.2, this is almost exactly one f stop, 2x, too dark for the D3s.  Black level and contrast are the same, probably linear in the raw data.  If you open normally, you will need to brighten by almost one f stop AND decrease the black offset proportionately.  Note this one stop darkening also means there is less in the hightlights before rebrightening.  It is really as though the Nikon digital data was shifted by one bit.  Maybe they did what Adobe PSD files do.  As you know, a 16 bit Adobe PSD file is actually 15.001 bits.  Pure white is neither FFFF (16 bit) or 7FFF (15 bits) but 8000, just one step above the limit for 15 bits, in a 16 bit PSD file.
    Color temperature is calibrated the same as the D3, but cross colors are different.  This is the matrix to use to (approximately) make a D3s image opened in 5.6 beta look like a D3 image:
    R= 110%R - 5%G - 5%B
    G= 17%R + 85%G - 2%B
    B= 100%B
    This implies Nikon has a green bayer filter that discriminates against red much stronger, but a slightly weaker red bayer filter.
    I'm waiting a few days before processing the wedding, if the revised 5.6 isn't released, I'll deliver with these values, but the DNG files will have to be reburned later for my bride's archive.  Adobe, please hurry!

  • Raw Support, Sony A7ii on aperture?

    Anyone know if there are plans for a RAW support update including the SONY A7ii?  Or could the current RAW that already supports the A7r and A7 be compatible?
    Thanks-

    Raw support is specific to the camera model. You just need to be patient. Sony Cameras are generally supported, but it takes time.

  • ISO Adjustment for Sony RAW F5/F55

    Is this an option? Is there a timeline for actual raw support and not just "Here's the metadata with ISO information, figure it out."

    Thanks. Now it works in PP and AE.

    First, your AE needs to be updated. The current version is 12.2.1.5
    If that does not fix the problem let us know.
    Second question, are you using the Sony import utility? If not, give that a try. Last question, can you open the files in Premiere Pro? I hope you are not trying to cut a feature film in After Effects.

  • RAW support on os x?

    Why does os  x give so many Raw support? I have only one camera, would't it be easier (less wasted space on the drive) to just have the RAW support for my camera and delet the rest?

    Okay, because you know that first post read like you though OS X should offer Raw support for your camera only...
    The amount of space required for the Raw support of each camera model is minute, it's mostly entries in a database. You don't need to apply Camera Raw updates unless they apply to a camera you are using. They get rolled into the next OS update anyway.
    So, a: you can't dump unwanted Raw profiles and b: you won't save any significant amount of space if you do.

  • Request for S200/S205EXR Raw support

    Adobe folks, one of your own mentioned awhile back that work was in progress for Lightroom to support the RAW files from the Fujifilm S200/S205EXR camera.  This was some time ago.  Will this support still come or is there a change in plans?
    Thank you.

    There could be technical problems.  Lr needs a minimum amount of access to raw image data to work, and some vendors lock some key information away and don't provide an easy way to get at that legally.
    A question worth investigating is if anyone else supports raw images form these cameras to any great extent.
    [Edit]
    Well, I did a little research myself, and it appears that the raw support for this camera is very vendor specific.  Apparently, the sensor technology is rather unique, and most people have best success with the vendor software.  Other convertors are (apparently) not all that successful at getting at and providing access to the full range of raw image data.  Whether this inability is a result of vendor lock-in is unknown, but my money is on Fuji not really letting their customers have full access to the image data.
    This situation is exactly why a niche company like Fuji (oh, how the mighty have fallen) should consider embracing DNG.

  • No Raw support for Olympus e620

    Cant believe aperture 3 does not have raw support for the Olympus E620. I am nearly ready to upgrade. Can Apple get there act together on this.

    Harass the company - go to
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    select Aperture
    and request support for the cameras that you use and want to be supported
    Tell them you will have to migrate to LightRoom if they do not support the camera.
    Now that Apple have moved to a new version of the Raw converter program they have little excuse for not adding these cameras.

  • RAW support for new micro 4/3 Panasonic GF-1

    Hi everyone, I've just preordered my copy of the new micro 4/3 Panasonic GF-1! I've sent in my feedback request for the RAW format to be supported by Aperture and thought it would be good to start a thread here to get the popular vote going!
    I assume it will be easier than the LX3 since that little camera had serious barrel distortion issues that had to be corrected in the RAW conversion (and doubtless that it was a difficult thing for Aperture to be able to support that). With this camera there are no such issues.

    hey..it's been more then 2 years since canon changed their tethering protocol and apple still hasn't gotten around to working out a solution.....but i guess that makes sense since that only afects every canon dslr sold int he last 2 years.....that is not that many....
    on the other hand, maybe you should wait for the camera to actually be released and available to ask for raw support? apple is usually the last of the raw converters to support new cameras.....but imo it is always worth the wait....

  • HT4757 RAW support for the SONY RX100?

    Anyone know when will Apple be adding RAW support for the SONY RX100?

    Unfortunately this is a user forum, so no-one can answer that one for you.  You can use the feedback option in aperture to request it though.  More than likely it wont come until Canon or Nikon release some more DSLRs, which is usually what prompts an update.  For what it's worth you can use the Adobe DNG converter which will convert the sony .arw file into a .dng file that Aperture can read.  It is another step to your workflow but you can do it.

  • Feature Request: Raw-Lite for the F5/F55

    Hi Sony Staff, Here's a feature request that I've been pondering for a long time now. Raw Lite on the F5(5). Is it a possibility? I'm a huge fan of the conventional 3:1 compressed 4K 16-bit Linear Raw from the AXS-R5. It provides a supremely high quality digital negative, with as much detail and tonality as you could ever really need. However the file sizes are very large. 1TB yeilds roughly an hour of recording time. And the storage costs associated with that are enough to scare away MANY producers from shooting Sony Raw (even with all of the benefits that doing so offers).  You guys have addressed this issue nicely with the F65 by offering Raw Lite with it's 6:1 compression (which coincidentally, is a compression rate that many, many producers are content to shoot with on the most prolific raw cameras out their - the Red Epic/Dragon/Scarlet cameras). Being able to offer producers the option to shoot Sony Raw Lite, with it's massively more managable file sizes would greatly increase the uptake of Sony Raw for production - and that benefits everyone. It benefits the camera department with a superior digital negative, it benefits post-production with greater latitude for grading and VFX, it benefits producers with a superior end product, and it benefits audiences with better looking images. Given that the F65 was able to be upgraded to offer this additional raw recording option, I assume (and hope) that it's not an impossiblity for the F5(5). So I'd urge you to strongly consider this feature request, and the added appeal it would bring to the cameras as a capture choice. Cheers, Mark

    I disagree that there is little difference between 12bit and 16 bit linear raw. The difference is huge. Shadows and dark areas from the FS7/FS700 are pretty grim, lot's of noise caused by the data rounding. Besides, in terms of bit rate it's not a question of simply reducing the bit depth, you need to increase the compression. For linear raw you need 16 bits unless you do an extreme amount of data rounding. For Linear raw, if the first stop is represented by just 2 bits of data (which results in very blocky noise as noise will be one of 4 luma levels and cannot be smoothly reproduced):  stop 1: 2 bitsstop 2: 4stop 3: 8stop 4: 16stop 5: 32stop 6: 64stop 7 128 (8 bit linear limit, 128 + 128 = 256 bits)stop 8: 256stop 9: 512 (10 bit linear limit)stop 10: 1024stop 11: 2048 (12 bit linear limit)stop 12: 4096stop 13: 8192 stop 14: 16384 bitsstop 15: 32768 bits (16 bit linear limit) If you move this scale up so that the first stop is represented by using 4 bits of data you will still have pretty coarse shadows and noise (one whole f stop will only have 16 posible luma values). So rather than just use binary math most linear raw systems use floating point math to make more bits available for the shadows. But with 12bit there just isn't anywhere near the same amount of "spare" bits that you get with 16 bit, so the shadows and low key areas really suffer. Just go and look at the FS7/FS700 boards and all the compliants about unusable, grainy and blocky shadow areas in the raw. Sure raw lite would be a welcome option, but it wouldn't be one for me. The whole point of raw for me is a robust, bomb proof format that you can expose and grade as you wish without worrying about artefacts etc.
