Media Backup For Server 2012 R2

I have a home server running win server 2012 r2. It runs scheduled backups of my hdd with OS which is good, but I would also like to backup my music, videos and pictures as well. I see that the
OS is backed up into dat files amung others which is fine, but is there a way to backup my media files in their actual extensions (.mp3, .png etc)?
Thanks

Hi,
It seems that you would like to "copy your media files to another location as a backup".
If this is correct you can simply create a schedule task and run a robocopy command line to help copy all these files to another location. For example:
robocopy x:\folder \\win2012r2\folder /s

    Hi @Mark-active
Although my area of expertise is with consumer products and software, not commerical products such as servers, I do have something that might be helpful; Setting Up the Printer on Windows Server 2003, 2008, or 2012 for HP Officejet Printers.
If the issue you are experiencing persists, I suggest giving us a call. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Coldfusion support for Server 2012

When are installers going to be made avaliable for Server 2012 for Cold Fusion?.
Adobe have offically said that installers for windows 8 are 3-5  months away as of September 22nd, 2012 but we havent heard anything about Server 2012?
Server 2012 was released to MSDN on the 4th of Sepetember. 4 Months seems a long time to wait with no word on installers or support for CF on Server 2012. Are you telling me Adobe doesnt have a MSDN account and only got access to Server 2012 at the same time as the generaly public?

Unfortunately we are all paying the price for Oracle deferring the end of life of Java 6 from November to Feb. It sounded like Adobe were going roll all this stuff into their patch to add Java 7 support to CF9 and CF10, which they would have needed to get done by Nov. However now it seems they've slacked off and have left it to the last minute. I guess the good news is that this should all be done within the next month or so. The bad news is... it won't give us much chance to test the new release between when Adobe patch CF and before the Java 6 EOL.

  • MS Security Essentials for Server 2012 R2

I've had MS Security Essentials installed on my Server 2008 R2 Foundation, but now that I've upgraded to 2012 R2 Foundation, MS Security Essentials won't install. It gives an error message saying that it won't run on this computer.
I've searched for a replacement, but my searches yield ONLY results for Server 2012 R2 Essentials, and NOT Security Essentials.  Is there a replacement for MS Security Essentials, and if so, how/where can I find it???

    Hi,
I agree with Ed that Microsoft Security Essentials is designed for client machines.
I have seen forum threads that indicating it is running well on Windows 2008 machines, still, it is not supported.
Here are some references below for you:

  • Azure backup options for Server 2012 R2 Essentials

    Hello,
I have configured a new on-prem HP server for a very small (5 users) non-profit client. This is a single server environment, and they use Office 365 for email. I have already configured AD Sync between the two with dirsync. I have installed the Azure agent,
and imported the certificate, and I am ready to create a backup set.
This is my first experience with Cloud based server backup - I'm used to products like Backup Exec and tape media. What are my options for backing up this server? Can I only do file/folder backup, as it appears?
What would be best practice in this situation, as I need to back up the systems state as well? And then, how to restore it?
All I can think of would be to use Windows Server backup to create a backup of the server, then back that up - but it's so messy, I must be missing something.
    Thank you in advance!!

    Hi,
You may refer the following link for clear step-by-step procedure on Azure backup:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2014/05/01/configuring-microsoft-azure-online-backup-on-windows-server-2012-r2-essentials.aspx
As of now, you can only backup File & folders(Even entire drive) but you cannot perform System State backups with Azure Backup.
For System State backup, as you mentioned about using WSB and then backing it up to Azure Backup vault may be the only work-around as of now. However, you may vote and provide feedback for this feature in
    here.

I have narrowed this issue down to .net 3.5 install.
I have boot, efi, sources, support, autorun, bootmgr, bootmgr.edi, and setup.
I have confirmed that the sxs folder is there.
I also just added WindowsSource=%DeployRoot%\Operating Systems\Windows Server 2012 R2 SERVERSTANDARDCORE x64\sources\sxs to my customsettings and updated the boot iso.  I am still receiving the errors.
One last bit of information I am able to get to the deployment share with the sxs folder in it from the reference machine I am creating but when I manually try to install .net 3.5 from roles and features to the share it fails. But if I copy the files local
    they work fine.
I seem to have permission issues with other subfolders also.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

  • Trying to setup a redundant server for server 2012

have some questions  regarding creating a backup for an all in one server. The server has active directory, DNS, the file server and everything on it. I'm trying to create a redundancy setup in case of failure. So I was reading about failover clusters
and this seem to be what I need to do. I'm just a little bit confused. What is the difference between using hyper V and using clusters?
When I create a cluster and add servers to it, what exactly happens? For instance simplest case I have the main server with all the data. Now I bring in another machine with nothing on it. I install windows server 2012 on it and add it and the other computer
to a cluster. Does the data from the main server automatically get copied onto all the servers that are part of this cluster? At this point if one server fails will the other one take over?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can think about Hyper-V cluster Vs. generic cluster like Hyper-V is a beehive of an independent clusters :)
You need to install Windows Server 2012 R2, enable Hyper-V role, virtualize all workload (keep all tasks inside separate set of VMs, don't run anything inside parent partition and don't use multiple roles either) and configure guest VM cluster (make sure
you use shared VHDX for that).
Data is not copied, you use shared storage and control gets passed to another VM running on another physical host. That would provide you smallest amount of downtime (if any). From the other point of view VM HA *would* have some downtime (VM reboots on another
    physical host).

  • Restore backups from Server 2012 Standard to 2012 Essentials or Foundations

The owner of our small office (about 25 employees) wants to have an off-site "emergency server" to be used if the primary office becomes completely unavailable due to fire or other emergency. In the past we did this with a 2003 Small Business server
in the office and a basic PC stored off site both running Veritas Backup Exec 10 and backing up files to a removable hard drive that could be restored to the spare 'server'.
Now that we are upgrading the main office server to Server 2012 Standard, the Backup Exec 10 will no longer work and I'm not interested in paying several thousand dollars for licenses for the newest version of Backup Exec for the new server and the 'spare'
    machine.
So my question is, if I use the built in backup system in the 2012 Standard server, would a spare machine running 2012 Essentials or 2012 Foundations be able to access those backups? Getting the basic OS on the spare server instead of the full 2012 Standard
would lower the cost significantly and make it easier to fit into the available budget. When used in an emergency, there would probably be at most 5 people accessing the spare server so user licenses won't be an issue, I just need to make sure the backup idea
    is feasible.

    Hi Michael,
    à
if I use the built in backup system in the 2012 Standard server, would a spare machine running 2012 Essentials or 2012 Foundations be able to access those backups?
Based on your description, I test something in my Lab environment. I create a shared folder, then backup (not Full server backup)
to the shared folder via Windows Server Backup on the Windows Server 2012 Essentials. Then logon a Windows Server 2012 Standard and access the shared folder. Then navigate to the backup file (.vhdx file), right click it and select
Mount. Please assign a drive letter to it in Disk Management. Then you will be able to see all files and folders which were backed up in this backup file (VHDX file).
In addition, when run Recovery Wizard via Windows Server Backup, you also can use an option ‘A backup stored on another location’
to select the backup file which was stored in the shared folder for the recovery.
If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • How to run Backup in Server 2012

Hi am Using windows Server 2012, am able to take backup only from Local drives.
i want to Run even mapped network drives also..
please guide me how to take backup of network drives or mapped network drives.

I don't think it's possible without third party software, the windows server backup assumes the share is on another server OS and you should be using backup on that server. I had a similar issue what I ended up doing was using a robocopy script to copy all
the data to the server I wanted to run windows server backup with this give me a redundant spot for the data and allows me to backup during normal business hours so for me this was a win win situation. I have since used NFS to sync the files to the server
which gives me a better live copy than robocopy at midnights did.
Just to add you can backup iscsi targets with windows server backup.

  • Cannot disable client backup in Server 2012 R2 Essentials

I have installed Server 2012 R2 Essentials for a customer, but i cannot disable Client backup.
I have not diskspace on this server to take backup of the Client machines, and hope there is an option for disabling backup or uninstall the Connector software.

    Hi,
Please refer to the following operations and disable backup for a computer.
    Open the
Dashboard. And click the Devices tab.
Click the name of the computer for which you want to disable backups.
    In the Tasks pane, click
Customize Backup for the computer. The Customize Backup wizard appears.
    Click
Disable backup for this computer, and then select whether you want to keep or delete the existing backup files. And then click
    Save changes.
There is an article for those operations, please refer to.

  • Windows Backup Retention: Server 2012 R2 Essentials

    Hi,
We are backing up a Server 2012 R2 Essentials machine's files and folders, using Windows Server Backup, to an external hard drive. That backup drive is now 84% full. It is my understanding that Windows Server Backup will automatically delete old backups
when necessary, but does anybody know at what point that happens? When the target reaches 90%?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Windows Server Backup will delete oldest backup when there is no enough space for storing a new backup.
You can also manually delete old backups with one of the following 2 methods - you can create a schedule so old backups will be deleted automatically before or after new backups created.
    See:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/62488e7a-4638-430c-950c-e75ac42b0fa3/how-a-can-delete-old-versions
    1.       Deleting System State Backup: wbadmin delete systemstatebackup –keepversions:10
The above command will keep the latest 10 versions and delete the rest all the system state backups.
    2.       Deleting other backups:  Backup application stores multiple backup versions in the VSS shadow copies. Hence, older backup version can be deleted by deleting older shadow copy. Commands to list and delete VSS shadow copies are
below. They need to be run in an elevated command window.
    ·         vssadmin list shadows /for=x: – for listing the snapshots on x: where x: is the backup location
    ·         vssadmin delete shadows /for=x:  /oldest – for delete the oldest shadow copy. It can be called multiple times in case there is need to delete multiple older backups.
Note: wbadmin get versions or backup UI would still report deleted backups until next backup runs. At end of each backup – non-existent backups are removed from the backup catalog.

  • Can DPM 2012 R2 backup SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn enabled databases

Is it possible to use DPM 2012 R2 for backing up
SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn enabled databases ?
Because if Alwayson configured for any Database , particular database is not available to select for backup.

    Hi,
Yes, starting with DPM 2012 SP1 SQL AlwaysOn enabled databases can be protected as long as they are not part of sharepoint farm. DPM shows the Availability Groups under Cluster Group.
You must explicitly add the system account NTAuthority\System or NT AUTHORITY\DPMRA to the Sysadmin group on SQL Server.

  • How can I know if my CAL license is valid for server 2012

    Hi everyone,
I have a domain where all the server are  Windows Server 2008R2, Due to certain progams that are about to enter the organization I have to deploy several new servers that will run server 2012R2 and possibly upgrade a few existing ones to 2012R2 as well.
That is however not the problem.
I recently found out the remote desktop servers that run the RD licensing role, Don't serve windows server 2012, but if I deploy a new RDS with server 2012 R2 it can serve both my old 2008 R2 servers and my new 2012 R2 servers. First I'd like to know if
it's correct and if any of you have tried that in the past. Furtner, I need to know if the CAL license that's installed on my 2008 R2 server is valid for 2012R2 servers as well, is there a way to find that out?
    Hoping for a quick response.

    Hi David,
You are correct, a 2012 R2 server can license your 2008 R2 servers, but your 2008 R2 CALs will not work to license connections to 2012 R2. A good wiki here...
