Media Browser crashes iWork 06

I received my iWork 06 today. And tried to create a sample document. Opening Media Browser opens in videos. If I try to get a photo from iPhoto library, iWork crashes. Everytime.
Of course I can drag and drop photos from iPhoto but Media Browser should work too.

I did a reinstall of iWork. Now it seems to work. I had removed extra languages but I've done that to many apps with no ill effects.

  • Media Browser Crashes Everything

Starting tonight, everytime I open the media browser it almost instantly crashes whatever program opened it, iweb, Keynote, etc. I have read about problems with flip4mac and 3rd party quicktime plugins. I have flip4mac installed as well as an xvid plugin. However, neither of these are a recent addition. I have been using iweb and Keynote as late as this afternoon with no problems. Tonight they are crashing left and right. Any suggestions?

  • Keynote 3 - media browser crash

I just installed iWork '06. While in Keynote, each time I launch the media browser and attempt to select a photo, the app "quits unexpectedly." I have used the media browser in other apps and, so far, have only experienced this in Keynote 3.
Is anyone else experiencing this and possibly have a fix? Am I missing something?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...JD

There are two possible solutions. First, if you have lots of movies in your movies folder, try moving them elsewhere. The media panel often dies when if finds lots of movies. Second, if you installed Flip4Mac, make sure it is the most recent version - and if it is, uninstall it.
My two work desktops are running Panther whilst my PowerBook and home desktop are running Tiger. I have had no trouble with Flip4Mac on my notebook or one of my work computers. On the other two I had to uninstall it. Go figure.

  • No photos in the Media Browser (all iWork software)

In the new iWork the media browser keeps telling me that I have no pictures in my iPhoto library... any idea to solve this?

I just did a test in the Guest account with a test library and it seems that the problem can be caused by the file name for the photo file, including the extension.   If the file is named iPhoto Library.photolibrary, Pages shows the photos.  If it is called Aperture Library.aplibrary then Pages can't find the photos.
When I renamed an Aperture file, Aperture then created a blank library when I opened it.  I was able to open the renamed library in Aperture by choosing Switch to Other Library and then opening the renamed one.
I haven't tested this with the Aperture library full of photos because changing the name might cause other unexpected problems and I don't want to take the risk.
This seems to be a bug that Apple could fix fairly easily in an update so I'll wait for the fix.
    Hope this helps.

  • Media Browser Crash

When I attempt to use my media browser in Iweb the program crashes it also happens in Keynote. What could cause this to happen. Has anyone experienced this problem. I went to the Genius Bar and they directed me to a 1-800 number.
    Thanks for any suggestions

Parts of my ILife are still not working. I will contact apple again to see if I can get it working.

  • Media Browser crashes when accessing XSan

When using Media Browswer, (premiere or prelude) if I click on our XSAN root on the left, the 'View as:' switches to 'XDCAM-HD' and the program freezes (pinwheel).  I can import items from the SAN and play footage just fine using the import dialog in Premiere or drag and drop, so it is not entirely a SAN access issue.  It seems to be an error when MB tries to analyse the file structure, and gets stuck - my best guess.
    It is a 16TB SAN.  CS6, updated.
    OSX 10.7.5
    XSAN 2.3
Issue occurs on multiple SAN connected machines, including a freshly wiped, newly installed computer.
    MacPros 2-4 yrs old.
    Thanks for any insight.

    Hi Yannic
I am not a tech person but it may be easier to start somewhere else, say open Skype and use there settings which have a visual and audio test.
Assuming you have the same menu bar or similar Skype controls, select "tools" ... then "options" ...and you will see a menu including Sound and Video settings.
That is a good and safe place to reset / adjust your video and sound.
Remember that when the camera is usb and uses an inbuilt microphone   ... under audio settings select  "usb audio" .... I suspect that your speakers will not be running out of your sound control panel.
This is then the advice I have seen around streaming and adjusting broadcasting/streaming settings with flashplayer
    1. Ensure the  Options shows "Audio-Video" enabled.
    2. After start, a Video Broadcaster window will pop-up
Click on the allow button for the Video Broadcaster to gain access to the Webcam.
    3. The video Braodcaster will load onto the screen.
    4. Right click on the Video Broadcaster to bring up the Flash Settings Dialog.
    5. Click on the Settings and then click on the fourth icon for camera.
    6. This will show a drop down of all the available cameras. Ensure the correct camera is selected.
    7. Clicking on the blue camera icon will show the actual image captured by the camera.

  • Aperture doesn't appear in iWork's media browser or Mail's Photo Browser

I've just installed Aperture 2, and I realize that it doesn't appear in the following browsers:
    - Media Browser in iWork'08
    - Photo Browser in Mail
Also, in iTunes, I can select Aperture to sync photos from, but no album is displayed
Any idea what could be wrong ?
    Thanks for your help.

After a long while on the phone with Apple Tech Support, we finally figured out the solution. After deleting ALL my previews (control-click on your main library icon and choose delete all previews) the Aperture library structure shows up everywhere it is supposed to. Of course, generating new previews will give access to the images again...
    Hope this helps.

  • Media Browser freezes everything in Keynote 3 (& Pages3)

I just loaded up iWork '06 and iLife '06 and have installed all the latest updates. When I finally got started on my project (due this week, of course), I discovered that my Media Browser totally hangs Keynote. I get an intermittent spinning beach ball in the general area of the browser, but I can do nothing more with the program other than force it to quit. I tried the same thing in Pages and got it to hang just like Keynote.
But wait! There's more! I moved everything over to a "naked" test account I have set up and the bloody things all work!
It seems that I should be able to do all that I need without the browser--just dragging the elements I want in from the Finder. But this is a bit baffling. Any ideas out their in iWork-land?? I'm not using Aperature, if that amounts to anything. However, my User directory is on a different volume (with the correct pointers in NetInfo Library). I really hope I don't have to move all my user files back onto my System drive.
    Any help would be welcome!!!
G5 dual 2.3 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Yes, I now do Windows, too (against better judgement)

    Ric,
A couple of questions. In the user account where you are having problems, can you load Ilife apps without any problems? Do your folders in itunes and iphoto load up without any error?
If they do not, then there is the problem! Itunes and iphoto are not linkig up to their respective libraries and you may need to consolidate in itunes and "choose library" in iphoto.
If these apps run fine but the hangup only occurs within the media browser in iwork, then I think the media browser is "looking" in the wrong place for their respective libraries. This may have happened if you moved your library since the install of the app.
Try trashing the p-lists (rather move them to the desktop), load the programs once and if all is ok, then load keynote and pages

  • Click "Media Browser" and Keynote crashes

I can't seem to use the Media browser at all. Every time I click to open it, it opens and then I get a crash message:
    "An unexpected error has occurred.
    Please quit and reopen Keynote."
I quit and reopen and the same thing happens. I've only just installed the trial today and it is useless if I can't add photos to my slides!
    Anyone else seeing this?
(I do have iWork '08 installed, if that makes a difference)

Even though the tabs wouldn't change, I clicked enough times to get the browser to open the photos (with the tab still highlighted on audio) in Keynote '08. I then closed '08 and opened '09 and the media browser defaulted open to the Photos tab and worked fine after that. Maybe some weird glitch? Anyway, consider this topic answered.

  • I've made a movie that keeps causing IMovie to crash - every time I try to play it on full screen or share it to Media Browser.  I'm thinking it's damaged some way.  Is there any way to copy it?

I'm trying to get a DVD made for my grand daughters to take home tomorrow.  Have been trying to get this movie shared to IDVD for several hours.  Help!!

Instead of Sharing to iDVD you want to Share to Media Browser. This will save the movie to a special folder inside of iMovie that you can then see from inside the iDVD program.
Choose Share > Media Browser (it's at the top of the list)
Choose the Large size and let it roll. It will take a while for it to work.
    When it's finished quit iMovie.
Open iDVD, Create a new project.
Go to the button labeled "Media" in the lower right hand corner of the iDVD window, and click it.
Just above that is a window with some buttons across the top. Click on the button labeled "Movies".
Inside the window you will see an iMovie star icon, double-click the triangle beside it to see all the movies being shared. Your iMovie project will appear there.
Drag the iMovie project into your iDVD project.
The quality of the final DVD is visibly better, sharper than if you were to Share directly to iDVD. So bypass Share to iDVD altogether and see if it stops crashing.

  • IWeb crashes every time with media browser

I've been searching the forums looking for a solution for the iWeb media browser bug in iLife 06 but I haven't been able to find a solution. I do not have flip4mac installed and just in case I moved out all .avi's out of the movie folder into another folder on the hard drive
    Specs
MacBook Pro 1.83 (1 gig RAM)
    OS/X 10.4.6
    iLife 06
    iWeb v1.1
Any sort of assitance would be greatly appreciated

    Christopher,
Pinwheels (commonly known as "The Beachball of death") is not a crash, usually means there's not enough RAM.
When the program "crashes" the app. closes completely and a window appears stating the app has unexpectedlty quit and you have a choice of closing the window and doing nothing, trying to re-open the app, or you can send a bug report to Apple. With enough bug reports sent to Apple they will update a patch. Since this sounds like a RAM-deprived computer struggling w/ insufficient memory causing impatient users to force-quit, there is effectively no bug report sent to Apple, simply because there is no bug.
Your OS alone (tiger) requires 512 RAM to operate, along with iWeb and any other apps running...
Upgrade your RAM and I'm sure you'll see improved performance. Repairing Permissions never hurt either.
If that doesn't work try opening a Finder window and dragging your files from there to iWeb.

  • Media browser in iLife and iWork apps do not displays the iPhoto lib

My iMedia Browser can't find the iPhote library anymore. The same goes for my Aperture library. So i can't find my photo in any of the iLife or iWork apps from the media browser. I have na idea what the problem is. Everthing (for example the iPhoto lib) is in its correct place. I already rebuild the iPhoto lib with no results. What can i do? thx in advance.

    Paul:
First, try deleting the com.apple.iApps.plist preference file, reboot and try again.
The the above doesn't help reapply these updates: iLife Media Browser Update and iLife Support 9.0.3. Repair disk permissions afterward and reboot.

Locate and move the com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovieApp.plist.lockfile files to the Desktop, launch iMovie and try again. If that corrects the problem you can delete them from the Desktop.
They will be in your Home/User/Library/Preference folder.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • IWeb keeps crashing when using Media Browser

Does anyone else experience constant crashes in iWeb while trying to work with images in the Media Browser (from iPhoto)? This application totally crashed EVERY time I worked with trying to drag and drop, review images in the Media Browser, and even tried closing the Media Browser window (probably 15 or 20 times last night).
Any insights as to what may be the culprit? Is it a bug in iWeb, or perhaps the photo file sizes in iPhoto are too large and crashes the application?
I have a dual G5 tower with 2 GB of RAM, so should be able to handle it.
I love the application, BTW. Never could figure out Dreamweaver (what a nightmare), but iWeb is exactly what I needed for a small business and also to create resources for my grad students.
    Way to go Apple.

Sorry, forgot to mention there's an issue with AVI files too. Both Quicktime and Flip4Mac handle some kinds of AVIs and I think they "fight" for control in certain cases and that also causes a crash. Yes, you'll have to pull out F4M when using AVI but it does come in handy if you're using WMV.
    They'll get it right yet.
That isn't the case, for me anyway. With Flip4Mac as
the only non-Apple plugins, iWeb would crash
immediately upon loading the thumbnail for any AVI
movie in my movie folder. Removing Flip4Mac stopped
    the crashing.
When I put the Flip4Mac plugins back into the
Quicktime folder, the thumbnails will load, but
playing the AVI file will result in a crash. Again,
removing the Flip4Mac plugins stops the crashing.

  • ILife iWork Media browser

Media broswer in all iWork and iLife apps does not load iPhoto. iPhoto works properly. I rebuilt iPhoto library and reinstalled iWork and iLife 06. Any suggestions? The creatives at mac store had not idea beyon rebuild.

    mimcd,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Do you, by any chance, have a huge amount of photos in iPhoto? If so, it could take quite a bit of time for Pages to load those thumbnails in the Media Browser. It may be that you're just not waiting long enough for Pages to do its thang.
