Media browser in finder

Why can't I see the media browser in the finder sidebar? Is it only available through the open file command?

Did you read my post just above yours?
Because it's not available in the Finder Sidebar, only in the Open File command.
So File -> Open in any app and you get this:
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you want a media browser to invoke from the Finder, as I said above you can make one with Automator:
Open Automator
From the First Column select 'Photos'
From the Second Column select the iPhoto 'Ask For Photos' option and drag it to the third column
File -> Save As -> Finder -> Workflow
Quit Automator and you'll have a new heading in your contextual menu.
Or use THIS which does the same and is free.

  • Media Browser Search Frustration

I recently moved to Audition from Logic Pro X as I now own a PC rather than a Mac. I want to use Audition for film mixing/sound design. Overall I REALLY like Audition but the inability to use a search function in the media browser to find specific sound effects is kinda disappointing. I'd like to find a workaround to this problem. Can anybody recommend a light piece of software that I could run alongside Audition that will allow me to search my sfx library specific sound effects (ie: 'footsteps on concrete') and provide me with an immediate result which I could preview autoplay (by single clicking) and then drag into Audition? Any help/advice/suggestions would be so appreciated. Cheers!

Hmmmm...for similar reasons to you (I do some video but a LOT of theatre sound design work) I like the idea of a search function.  It would save me time too.  I feel a feature request coming on.
Since I've been working with Audition for years, I've never really thought about this.  My personal work flow is to hunt out every bit of sound I think I might want before I even open Audition, transfer it to a folder that will become my session folder, then open Audition and start working.  If I discover anything I'm missing, I tend to use the Windows search function and/or Windows explorer, again outside Audition.

  • Exporting to Media Browser & Chapters etc

    Hi People,
I just finished editing my wedding video in iMovie 08 and everything looks great. I need to add chapters so that my relatives can skip to different locations in the movie. I read that the only way to add chapters is to add it to the media browser and then send it into garage band.....create the chapters there and then export it to iDVD. I tried this with a short test movie with only about 2 minutes of footage and it works fine. When I try to add my wedding video to the media browser it starts off and says it will take about 350 minutes to export...it exports for a few hours and then fails with an error (I think the error code might have been -43 but cant remember..and refers to startup disk, I think being too full..)
My wedding video is huge.. being 3 hours the raw files were about 50 or 60 gig. I have done all of my editing from an external drive that has about 70 gig free and ideally this is where I would want to export the finished movie to. I do not have more than about 6gb left on my MacBook Pro...
1: Is there a way to make chapters without using media browser?
2: If media browser is the only option for chapters how can I get media browser to use the external drive when it is exporting.
    Thanks - Justin

1: Is there a way to make chapters without using media browser?
Yes. Garageband should be able to chapter any QT compatible video you can bring into it whether brought in via the Media Browser, the Finder, or "drag 'n dropped" from the desktop. Further, the Media Browser employs H.264/AAC compression as the export default, so while the files are small, it can take hours to compress very long files. You could, for instance, export your project to your hard drive via the "Using QT" export option to a less compressed format such as DV or AIC to your 70 GBs space with an AIC/Linear PCM probably requiring 30 plus GBs or a DV taking closer to 40 and I would normally expect this export to be quicker than H.264/AAC. However, if you still prefer the H.264/AAC built-in preset, use the "Export Movie..." option to select the same size file using the same Media Browser settings, but place the file on your external drive where you want it.
2: If media browser is the only option for chapters how can I get media browser to use the external drive when it is exporting.
Media Browser files are stored in a folder within a project's "package." Since these files are stored on the start-up drive by default and there is no user preference to relocate them, I would not normally recommend the average user attempt to set up the console workaround described elsewhere in this forum when so many other easier solutions are open to you in this case.
ADDITION NOTES: Don't know if you are burning to dual-layer device or not. (I.e., iDVD will not write a single-layer 3-hour DVD.) If not, you will need to consider burning you DVD content in two parts or using an alternate allowing longer burns and use of AC3 audio rather than iDVD's PCM.

  • Media browser still hanging up

ok, so i updated pp cc 2014 today to see if they'd addressed our issues with the bugs.
i just opened media browser to find some files and only about half of my files loaded showing the preview thumbnail, then other half just say "Processing...filename.mov"
when i double click any file that the preview hasn't loaded on, it says media offline and hangs up with the "Open Files" dialog box that just says Open Files... and the progress bar never filled in.  when i try to click cancel it just gives me the wheel of death.

  • I moved a iMovie video from a macPro to an IMac. In iMovie the option to export the video to media browser is greyed out, but the video is not listed on iDVD media. How can I get iDVD to find it or find a way to re-export it to media browser?

I moved an iMovie from a MacPro to an iMac. In the iMovie share option Media browser is greyed out (It was previously shared to the Media b
rowser on the MacPro). The video is not listed in the iDVD media list. How do I get it listed in iDVD or find a way to re-export it?

Did you transfer a Quicktime movie files from the Mac Pro to your iMac?  If so make sure the video plays correctly in Quicktime Player.  If it does you can put it in your Movies folder and from there drag it into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.  It doesn't have to come from iMovie. You can just drag and drop into iDVD.

  • Media browser in Lion Finder?

Hi,  Updated to Lion and have a question.  I no longer see a media browser(or media section) in the left side of my finder windows. I want to be able to see photos without opening up iPhoto.  I have a "pictures" folder under favorites, but this does not let me view the phoos.  I see in mail, there is a photo browser.  How do I get this into my finder on the left side?  Many thanks for your help.

  • Can't find media browser

How do import songs from iTunes?

    Can't find media browser
Click the button towards the bottom right corner with the icon of a musical note, a bit a film, and I guess a photo.
How do import songs from iTunes?
You can drag a song from the iTunes window into the GB timeline, or drag the file from Finder into the GB timeline, however:

  • Where can i find the Media browser folder

Hi guys hey where can I find the media browser folder if I want to delete some FCPX videos to free up some space.

They are placed inside the project folder, in a folder called "Shared Items." The default location of the project folder is in your Movies folder, called "Final Cut Projects." On an external drive, the "Final Cut Projects" folder is at the top level.
The shared file will have a name that starts with the project name, and ends with whatever you shared it to. For example, "<projectname > - Mac and PC.mp4"
There will also be a file called ShareStatus.plist in that folder. It tracks all the instances of when you share the project. I will also control whether a little icon appears next to your project name in FCPX. Finally, if you delete an item that was shared and it still exists in that .plist file, you will see an exclamation point next to the shared icon; it is harmless but to get rid of that you need to delete the entry from the .plist file.
    Hope this helps!

  • Media Browser lost its mind... can't find iPhoto

I haved used Garageband extensively for my podcast. Today when I went to add artwork to my cast, the Media browser no longer can find my iPhoto images. The media browser says:
Launch iPhoto 2 or later to populate this list.
O.K. Well, I'm running GarageBand 3.02 and iPhoto 6.0.4 and so I don't know what the problem is. I oppened both programs. Tried starting one before the other. Restarted. All the obvious things but still nothing.
Anybody got an idea of what has happened?
    Thanks!!!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The Media Browser enables you to share your movie easily with iDVD, GarageBand, Logic Pro, Word, Powerpoint, Keynote, Pages, etc. You access the Media Browser from within these apps.
If you want to see the raw files that make up the finalized movies in the Media Browser, go to the Movies/iMovie Projects folder in the Finder. Right click on your project and select Show Package Contents. Now open the folder called Movies. They should be in there.
You should be able to share to iTunes directly, but when you do, it should put copies in the Media Browser automatically. If a Media Browser copy already exists when you share to iTunes, it should just send that copy over to iTunes.
To get to iTunes, click SHARE/to iTunes. You can also drag your movie into iTunes as well.

  • Problems finding movie in iDVD after sharing through Media Browser

I created an iMovie in the '08 version and am now trying to burn to a DVD. I have followed the tutorial for rendering the project through the Share-Media Browser option, but when I open the iDVD application, I cannot find my movie under "Movies". It's listed, but grayed out.
Does anyone know what I may have done wrong?
    Thanks.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with how I created the file originally. I could be missing something very obvious here.
If you shared your iMovie '08 project to the "Media Browser" (or published to the Gallery), the file creation should have been automatic and supposedly foolproof to specific settings. However, just to be sure, have you tried opening the "Project" package at the finder level to play the movie in the QT Player and examine its statistics to ensure they are what they should be? It might give some clue as to why the file is "unavailable" in iDVD.

  • Where do i find the slideshow i put in my media browser?

I made a slideshow for the first time and it said it was saving it my media browser but can't find where it is.

    Hi,
The slideshow is classed as a project.
Go to the View menu and select Media Types - Ensure that Projects is checked. If you still can't find it, uncheck all the other types to hide them - then you should see your slideshow.

  • ITunes missing from Media Browser -- "open itunes to populate list"

I am on a MacBook Pro 10.7.3 running GarageBand '11 6.0.4 and all of the sudden no tracks will display under Audio in the Media Browser (Photos and Movies still appear). No tracks from either iTunes or GB show up. This is confusing as I have been using GB to make podcast/music mixes for more than 5 years and I haven't changed any settings or done anything different, but now I get the message "open itunes to populate list" or "To see GB songs here, open GB to edit and save your music."
Also, for quite some time I have been unable to go the alternative route of dragging tracks directly from iTunes and dropping them on to the timeline in GB -- that used to work, but mysteriously stopped, so I am dependent on the Media Browser for importing music.
I read thru the forums and tried the advice given to someone this was happening to in Final Cut -- recreating iTunes .xml file. Did that, still no tracks display.
Other advice says to reinstall GB or iLife altogether -- I hope to avoid this, but if I need to go this route, how do I reinstall GB w/o a disk? Can I do it through App Store and will it recognize that I have already purchased it?
I am dying to be able to get back in to my music mix making in GB, so thanks in advance.

you can't, you'd need to find the DVD

no, it'll only recognize your purchase if it was through the app store

"Where do I find my hundreds of dollars of downloads I have done since 2005?"
They will only be where you put them  If you are doing the very basics, then they will be on your computer and they will be in your backup copy of your computer.
The itunes store is not global at all, never has been. You cannot redownload your content from another country.  You can only use the countrys itunes store for the country that you are physically located.
