Media browser in Premiere CS 6 doesn't display list of hard drives!

My media browser in Premiere CS 6 doesn't display list of hard drives. There is no dropdown of folders or anything to select the media from. Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how I can correct this?

If Premiere is acting weird try this:
Start Premiere with holding down shift+alt until welcome screen.
See if that will help.

iLife is preinstalled on all the Macs. If you purchased iLife in the App Store or your computer came without DVDs, open App Store > Purchases and download the applications. If your Mac came with discs, insert the Applications DVD and install iLife applications

  • How much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on?

This may be a really dumb question, but how much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on if all your video files, assets, disk cache, etc are on different drives than the one the program itself is installed on?
The reason I am asking is that I currently have a "relatively" slow Sata II SSD for my C drive that has just my OS (windows 7 64bit) and programs (adobe editing programs, no games) installed on it and nothing else. All of the files used in my projects are saved on either a very fast Sata III SSD or a slower HDD depending on what the files are. For example, disk cache on the Sata III, stills on the HDD.
Being cyber monday I have the opportunity to buy another very fast Sata III SSD to replace my current Sata II SSD C Drive (just OS and programs). Both synthetic and real world benchmarks show a near double in performance. I just want to know if anyone thinks the upgrade is even worth it because for all I know there won't be any increase in performance since no videos, still, cach, etc will be stored on the C Drive.
The alternative is to get a second monitor because I currently only use one 21" monitor.
I suppose another alternative would be to not buy anything on the cyber monday deals and just save money for something else.
Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Alex! I think you are right about not being able to notice the difference between the SSDs. I ended up finding a deal to get about $80 off a great monitor that I've been looking at for a while and decided to pull the trigger on it. I thought about it and realized that there have already been a bunch of times where I want to watch a tutorial on youtube and follow allong in AE or PrePro, but have to keep switching windows. I also frequently want to have my video preview on a separate monitor so I can have a taller timeline window. This monitor will help a lot with that. Thanks again for your help!

It is the strangest thing. I click on the project and it is there with all the stuff and cuts, etc., but no clips in the event!
    Thank you.

    You u r right.
Thanks I figured it out. It was the sort by preference toggle UP TOP for clips. I was fabulously ignorant of it till this AM. Thank you very much for answering.

Or if you purchased Pages as part of iWork on a disk, reinstall from the same disk.

  • How to ensure Premiere Pro saves nothing to my computer's hard drive

I recently installed CS5 on my MacBook Air. I have a 1TB Time Capsule (wireless external hard drive) and I want Premiere Pro to save exclusively to that drive and not to my computer's hard drive.
I have all of my source files for my project (audio, video, images, etc) on the Time Capsule and saved the project to the Time Capsule. However, PP is still saving stuff to my computer's hard drive and I can't seem to find what or where it's saving it. The computer hard drive is already near full so I want to keep all things PP on the Time Capsule.
Also, every time I open up the project, PP re-indexes and re-conforms all of the media I'm using for the project. Furthermore, when I try to export and encode, Media encoder is saving stuff to my computer's hard drive even though I set it to save to the Time Capsule.
Basically I'm really frustrated with constantly getting "Your hard drive is almost full" warnings from my MacBook Air, resulting in me just moving other, non project related media off of my computer onto the Time Capsule or just deleting it altogether.
Help me use Premiere Pro so that it saves nothing to my hard drive and exclusively to my Time Capsule! Thanks!

  • Premiere Pro CS4 is rapidly eating up my hard drive!

    Hey all,
So I was working on a video with my trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I originally had 28 GB left on my internal hard drive. After importing a bunch of videos and splicing them together, I noticed that Premiere kept conforming certain videos again and again. I didn't think much of it, because my source files (where I'm saving the .prproj and video files) are on an external terabyte hard drive. When I'm done with my project, I go over to my computer and see that my internal hard drive has suddenly been reduced to 3.1 GB! I have no idea where the other 25 GB has gone.
What exactly does Premiere do when it says it's conforming video?

I'm sure that you already know that you set up your disk locations in project tab. But a lot of people don't realize that in Edit=Preferences Media... you can tell premiere where you want media cache files to go. If all you have is your c drive and 1 external drive, I highly recommend at least one additional drive. Don't use your c drive for anything other than your os and programs..

  • Time Machine doesn't recognise Seagate external hard drive

Forgive my ignorance, but I can't figure out how to connect Time Machine with my new hard drive. I've clicked on "select back up disk" but my external hard drive doesn't appear. I've looked at a lot of similar support online, but everything tells me to click the button and select the drive, but not what to do if there is no drive to select. Can anyone help me? Am I missing something obvious?

This tells me it can be done and that it's quite simple. It's all fine until step 4. When I click on Time Machine Backup Configuration it just connects to the Apple support page for how to set up Time Machine. Nowhere to input my details. Grrrrr.... This shouldn't be this hard!
In theory, I agree that it ought to be simple, but that's Seagate's programming, not Apple's.  Few folks here, and none at Apple, are familiar with it.
Do you have the current version?  Does it claim to be compatible with the version of OSX you're on (is that Snow Leopard 10.6.8, per your profile)?  Not all NASs are compatible with all versions of OSX.  You need to contact Seagate (or return the NAS).
Again, I'd strongly recommend reconsidering.  I just spent the better part of a couple of days helping a user of a GoFlex Home who replaced her internal HD, then found her backups were corrupted, piece her system back together.  Not for the faint of heart.
Take a look for yourself: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5061341
There's a lot of chaff there -- she's not an experienced Mac user (she is now!), but was very determined to get her stuff back.

  • My computer doesn't recognise my external hard drive

My macbook doesn't seem to recognise my external hard drive (OS 10.8.3).
The hard drive connects to laptop via USB, but gets power from another plug in the wall. When I plug it in, its icon does not appear on desktop, or in Finder menu.
The hard drive works fine on my sisters laptop (Macbook, about 5 years old). Other storage devices work fine in my macbook, and appear rapidly on both desktop and finder menu when I insert them.
Have any of you encountered this before? Can you tell me how can I fix it???

  • My computer doesn't see my external hard drive

Hello. I have a Power Mac G4, X10.4.6 and for a long time I've used it successfully with my hard drice - and Icecube 800 hard drive connected through a firewire cable. Now i just formated the intern hard disks and now the computer doesn't see the hard drive. The Icecube 800 doesn't require installation of any drivers and it still works perfectly on other computers. And there's nothing wrong with the ports because I can still connect my iPod. What do i do? Thank you, Sebastian.

It does. It may not call it "resetting the port", but this method is what resets the port:
"Tip: FireWire ports are keyed, which means the FireWire cable can only be inserted one way. Check that you are inserting the FireWire cable into the FireWire port in the correct orientation.
If the issue persists, try these steps:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Disconnect all FireWire devices and all other cables, except the keyboard and mouse cable(s).
    3. Disconnect the computer from the power outlet and wait for 3 to 5 minutes.
    4. Plug the computer back in and turn it on.
    5. Reconnect the FireWire device(s) (one at a time if there is more than one) and test. Test with each FireWire port if you have more than one."
If it isn't resetting the port properly, I think your port, cable, or controller is damaged.

  • New imac doesn't locate old imac hard drive via usb port

I have an old iMac from ~2006 that recently stopped reading the harddrive.  I pulled the HD out and connected it to my new imac via USB port but I can't locate it.  The HD spins/powers up so I know the connector is strong enough to supply power.  We connected it to my husband's PC and he can see that there is a harddrive but cannot see any files to read.  He even tried Catacombe to try to read files but it didn't work.  My first issue is how can I locate my HD on the new mac?  But the main issue is how can I pull data/pictures off of the old harddrive and import them to my new computer.  I don't hear any clicking sounds from the harddrive so it seems to be working.  I can't reformat it because I don't want to lose the pictures on it.  I don't need the old harddrive to work/write.  I just need to pull the information off of it.  TIA.

I was not familiar with catacombae , but now I am .
You have a problem with either a corrupt file system on the hd or a hardware problem with the hd.  I'd say try mounting in disk utility.  Try reparing filesystem on hd.  Try one of the disk repair utilities.  Some have a free trail that let's you know if they can do anything.  You pay to get the data.  Seek profession help.  Pay $$$.
How to mount with disk utility.

  • Media Source Organizer Smart Playlists - won't link up to new hard drive

I recently tranferred all of my tracks to a new hard drive. I updated the PC Music library and it's working fine except for the Smart Playlists. They still refer to the old hardrive. How do I update the location for Smart Playlists?
    Thx.

    Hi,
If I remember correctly Smart Playlists & Playlists doesn't update itself when the physical music file is moved to another location. It's something like a shortcut that points to a list of songs. Can you create a new smart playlist to see if it is pointing to the correct location?

  • Doesn't pick up new hard drive when installing ML

    Hi
I am currently replacing the hard drive in my brothers 2009 MacBook Pro. I've successfully swapped the old hard drive out for the new one (after ensuring I had a current time machine backup) and have followed online instructions to create a bootable DVD with ML on it.
However, when I start it up with the DVD in and holding down the option key, it brings up the option of restoring from a time machine backup or a fresh install etc, I sect fresh install but when it reaches the stage for me to select which volume I want the new install on the new hard drive doesn't show up!
I've tried taking it apart again to ensure the connections are fitted to the new drive correctly but the same thing happens when I try again.
    Can anyone help me please?

You're going the long way around
Clone the old drive to a new.  2 clicks and 40 mins and you're done
    Nothing to install no complications

  • Time Machine doesn't see the WD Hard drive attached to the AEBS

I've been having issues of dropped connections with my WD HD connected to the AEBS vis USB. My backups have been failing and I sometimes get this error message:
The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.
I wouldn't mind if I had to start over by trashing prefs but, in the Time Machine preference window I can't select the HD connected to AEBS as it doesn't show in the Change Disk window.

I'm having an issue with my external HD not being recognized as a drive for Time Machine. Is it because it's NTFS formatted?
Yes. It must use either the GUID (preferred for Intel) or +Apple Partition Map+ (preferred for PPC Macs) *Partition Map Scheme,* and the +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ Format.
Is there anything I can do?
Yes. Make two (or more) partitions, which you should do anyway if you want to put anything on the drive besides TM backups. Use the first for TM, format the other(s) however you want. See item #5 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
Also, should I be able to create a back up file on the internal drive? Not even that drive appears in the list.
Not in the same partition as OSX. You could make a second partition there, but you'd get a warning from TM reminding you that it's not a good idea to have your originals and backups on the same drive.
Sorry for noob style questions- I never bothered with TM before, and having my other MBP stolen has led me to want to use it....
