Media Browser not showing iTunes library

The media browser, which is a system-wide open dialogue feature in OSX has been failing to show the iTunes library in my main (but not admin) account.  It shows photos and movies just fine, but nothing from iTunes.  Garageband files yes, but iTunes library nope.  For example if I wanted to add music to a slideshow I can pull down to iTunes but nothing is there.  Same if I wanted to attach an .mp3 to an email, or add music to a movie.  Same thing happens in Chrome, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, etc.  Interesting, it is unique to this user account.  I've tried it in another user account that has an iTunes library and it worked just fine.  Any idea on how to fix this?  I'm guessing there's a preference somewhere I could delete that could rebuild it.  I don't want to trash any iTunes library files as I have spent years building playlists, metadata, stats, etc.  Thanks for your help.
I'm using the latest versions of OSX, Safari/Chrome, iTunes, the iLife '11 suite, and the iWork suite.

Nobody?
Weirdly enough, I have to add it works in a few select 3rd party apps, like Audacity.  However, it still does not work in any Apple apps nor the trial of Capo, a music app, which is why I'm looking for a fix.

  • Share Media Browser - only shows Tiny, or Mobile size, the rest are grayed

I'm helping a teacher with a movie in iMovie 09. It has all the latest patches. When I tried to use Share>Media Browser - only shows Tiny, or Mobile size, the rest of the larger sizes are grayed out.
Of course, I tried Mobile and it was pixelated when displayed at a larger size.
I'm not sure why this is. Can anyone help?

When you say what size is the source video, what do you mean, and how would I check that size?
I've just encoded the video in iMovie, into iTunes as size "mobile". The resulting file size is 27.8 MB. In iTunes, the info shows the codec as being H.264.

  • HT1473 Problem importing music; music imported not showing in library

ITunes is really becoming a pain in the ***. I'm really ****** right now. Three days ago my new album purchase could not be located after it downloaded. I had to spend more time trying to make it work. Cd imported today does not show in library.

Thanks. I've installed the back up disc, but itunes doesn't ask me if I want to restore. Even though itunes is my default player, a screen appears asking If want to play using real player, or media player, or do nothing. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

  • Albums not showing in library after import

Just install iTunes 10.4.1.10 on Win XP (have same issue on Win 7) it auto added my music folder but its all messed up due to filenames etc so I deleted everything from library with the intention of manually importing everything.  Albums are not showing in library after going File -> Add Folder to Library...
    Any ideas?

Note that Pause and Resume can be found in the right-click context menu of an item (toolbar drop-down list).
Do you have the .part file or only the (final) file with a byte count of 0 bytes?
If the .part file and doesn't have the expected file size (2 GB) is missing then you won't be able to resume this download anyway. You can check the temp folder as well.

  • A solution to having media files in your iTunes library on multiple drives

After searching on the web for threads of people with this issue, I found this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1483694
I wanted to reply, but the thread has been archived and locked, so I figured I could make a new post offering my new solution.
The application I have written to allow users to easily move the media files in their iTunes library to multiple drives is called TuneSpan (http://www.tunespan.com).
TuneSpan is user friendly, freeware, native OS X app. It does the whole process of moving files and having iTunes know the new location for you, just as you would expect from a full featured app for OS X. Symbolic links are used to point iTunes to the new file locations, but in some cases, TuneSpan can actually get iTunes to learn a new location for the file, without the need of a symbolic link. Also, TuneSpan never removes any tracks from iTunes (preserving playlists, play counts, etc.) and there is no need to adjust any settings in iTunes such as the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" setting.
Lots of important information about TuneSpan and how it works can be found on http://www.tunespan.com/help.html
I do not mean to completely self-promote by posting this, but I realize that I am doing so. I am hoping to reach out to users who have had the desire to do this task but have been overwhelmed or hindered by past solutions technicality, inflexibility, etc. I am hoping that making this posting in the location that some may look for a solution will give TuneSpan more exposure, and help more people have their iTunes library the way they want it to be. TuneSpan is freeware, but donation are accepted though not forced nor nagged for. If you choose to donate through my site, I will, of course, be receiving compensation which I would be grateful for, but that is not the intention of this post. If this posting does not meet the guidelines of this forum, I apologize.

Very useful app, thanks! But i've noticed it is still a O.xx beta. Do you intend to go on with it?

  • How burn data CD or DVD with documents/songs not in iTunes Library?

How do I burn data CD/DVD with items not located in iTunes Library? Prior to the update to iTunes 8.0.2, I could burn Data CDs/DVD from my desktop - these were documents files, and audiobooks/songs not located in iTunes Library. Now I can't get the burn preferences window to show up. Something has changed in the iTunes 8.0.2 update which keeps me from burning anything that is not in iTunes library. Please advise. Thank you.

    Dear Zevoneer,
As a test, I created a New Burn Folder on the desktop, transferred aliases for music and documents not in iTunes Library, totaling about 2.5GB. I burned all on to a 4.7 GB DVD-R. Everything burned properly and quickly as usual. And each item is an accurate replica of my files.
Perhaps I was wrong in thinking that a few months ago when I burned non-iTunes Library items, I always got a Burn Preferences Window on my desktop. No matter, it all went well. And I also learned that we now burn songs in iTunes only via the playlist window, where "Burn" brings on the Burn preferences choices.
    Thank you for your help.
    Regards,
    Generosa

    Hello, Adobe?

  • Where to find info on TOTAL media size of my iTunes Library?

    Hi all.
While we can view on the left-hand column of iTunes the total size of Music, Movie etc
Is there somewhere I can see the *total media size of my iTunes Library??* I wana see whether I can fit my entire iTunes Library into a 64GB iPod touch, instead of "lugging around" an iPod classic.
    Thanks and cheers

Open a new finder window - go to where your iTunes library is at (where you should see all the artist folders with album folders with the actual music files - depending on how you set iTunes to organize your music in the first place)
    - when you find your library folder, just highlight select it, then use the finder menu > file > get info - a new window will open and should automatically calculate the size of the folder - this should give you enough information to see if you can use your entire library on another device, or if it is too large.

  • Media Browser does not load iTunes Library

I was on GarageBand today and was trying to drag a song from my iTunes (via Media Browser) and nothing showed under my iTunes (playlists, songs, etc.) and I have over 4000 items on iTunes.
I also was trying to upload an attachment on GMail and media browser did not show my iTunes library there either. My screensaver is my album artwork and now it says that I do not have any album artwork. WHAT'S GOING ON?!

  • Purchased iTunes media artwork not showing up in finder?

I've scoured google and the threads here on the ASC, but nothing has worked. At first I did not notice the pattern, but now I realize it. None of the album artwork that is embedded into my purchased itunes media displays in finder. All of my artwork displays perfectly in iTunes, but not in finder. I started having this problem today, seemingly randomly. I hadn't downloaded any updates to any applications, nor had I installed any new applications. The only thing I did was import four new cds (ALAC format) and the album artwork shows up fine in finder for those. To be honest the problem could have been going on earlier but I did not notice this until today when I went and looked for my new albums to verify the artwork had been embedded properly.
I tried everything under the sun, including deleting the album artwork cache that Finder supposedly shares with iTunes in the iTunes folder. I downloaded a program called Onyx that someone suggested and rebuilt ALL folder window displays, resetting all folder views. I cleared every cache there was on the computer, and rebuilt all databases, including the spotlight index database. I have literally rebuilt all databases that are rebuildable and cleared every single cache there is (including in my /user/library folder) and the problem still persists. I don't know what it is about the purchased itunes media that doesn't display in finder, but it bothers me. It's embedded.
The weirdest part of it is that in Time Machine, all of the artwork displays in the Finder icons and Finder CoverFlow just fine. But when I restore from Time Machine back into my iTunes media folder, the icons go back to the generic sound file icon in Finder (coverflow, quickview, file icons, everything). The only place the album artwork displays is in iTunes itself. I tried using Doug's applescript for re-embedding artwork, to no avail. I'm at a complete loss.
Even if I manually browse to my time machine backup folder on my external HDD, the icons show up just fine. It's just the purchased files that are actually in my iTunes media folder that don't display.
    Some info on my setup:
    2013 macbook pro w/ retina 15" 2.7ghz model
    OSX ML 10.8.4
    iTunes v 11.0.4 (4)
I checked for available updates, there are none, I'm completely up to date. I'm new to mac this month, coming from a long line of Windows computers, so I'm not completely familiar with all the nooks and crannies of OSX but I feel like I exhausted a fair amount of my thinkable options here.

I have given it several days now and still no joy. Details are as follows:
    1) I have two collections:
        a) In one collection: All files are Apple Lossless (ALAC) with embedded artwork.
             - There is NOTHING else in this collection - no other media - nada.
              - This collection is about 380GB
         b) The other collection is a mix of compressed m4a's, audiobooks, and iPad apps.
              - The music part of this collection is about 170GB
              - The audibook part of this collection is about 43GB
    2) In both cases, the iTunes library and media are in a subdirectory of a Pegasus R4 (4TB RAID 5 array).
    3) Issue manifests itself with both collections on on both my systems, each of which has a Pegasus R4 connected via the Thunderbolt port
         - MacBook Pro 15 Retina with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
         - Mac Mini with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and Server 2.2.1
Again, for my case...artwork shows up perfectly in iTunes and in other tools (Clementine, Logitech Media Server), but not in Finder.
Also - tools that use the Finder's mechanism for accessing album art (Plex, for example) do NOT work properly.
I wonder if it is related to having the media housed on an external (if you can call what thunderbolt does "external") drive.

  • Why is the Apple TV Gen 2 not showing my library in alphabetical order when shorting, It's ok in iTunes.

    Hello All
With the newest Apple TV Gen 2 software up-date, My TV Shows are not sorting in alphabetical order.
They show up fine and sorted in iTunes.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • TV Show shows on AppleTV but not in iTunes library

I've been adding TV shows from various sources to iTunes for awhile now and watching them on my TV through home sharing to the appleTV. For awhile this has all worked great. However, tonight I've run into a strange issue: On the AppleTV, under the home sharing from this local computer, I am seeeing episodes of shows which are not listed in the iTunes library. For example, one show in iTunes shows me episdes 11, 12 and 14, whereas on the AppleTV, it is showing me 11,12, 13 and 14! I count 11 shows that have missing episodes.
I have a workflow setup where the video files are tagged appropriately, then placed in the "automatically add to itunes" folder and iTunes handles it from there. I have my media folder location setup on an external drive and iTunes set to keep my media organized. Looking in the itunes folder, I see the files for the "missing" episodes are there. When I try to play the episodes on the AppleTV, they play fine.
I tried to "add to library" again the missing episode, but nothing seems to happen. I have restarted iTunes and the computer. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting the external drive. I even looked in the "iTunes Library.xml" file and the episodes are listed in that file.
Any suggestiosn on how to get what is showing in iTunes to sync with what is actually in my iTunes library?? Thanks for any advice!

Managed to get this fixed tonight. Followed the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451 to recreate the library file from the xml file and all looks good now!

  • Remote app on iPad2 not showing iTunes interface on ATV2 shared library

I have an AppleTV 2 that's sharing an iTunes library via home sharing over Ethernet from a Mac Mini. Running Remote App on my iPhone 5S, I can control that library as expected. Running Remote App on my iPad2, however, I'm unable to see the main iTunes-like interface that lists songs, albums, artists, etc. on the shared library. While I can see the currently playing song at the top of the screen and have access to the Back, Pause, and Forward buttons, the main pane below that only shows the icons for Home Sharing and Using Gestures. Under Home Sharing, where it says "Tap the Apple TV button in the bottom left...," there's not Apple TV button, only "Devices." I can use the gestures interface in Remote App on the iPad2 to control playback, but I never see the main library interface. Any thoughts you have for remedying this would be really appreciated!

Well the response I got to the above post was outstanding!
Shall we put this in the bracket along with "If a tree falls in the forest with no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?"
If anyone is wondering, for my party I ended up using my Mac as the server for the iTunes DJ. And I discovered that if more than 5-7 people try to get onto it, it crashes the whole system and the music stops. Glorious.

  • HT4527 I followed all these steps and iTunes is not showing my library help!

I followed all the steps to transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my laptop.  I then installed iTunes to new laptop and copied iTunes folder to "my music " on new laptop.  I then opened the new iTunes but the library is not there.  Please help!

Perhaps you need to revist your transfer process...
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
