Media card/ extra memory

looking at the slot insidemy 8320 curve it looks as if  only avery thin thing , as  thin as  a sim  card  would  go  in  it  and not the sort of little card that goes into a pda  or a camera- whatever they are called
i'm assuming one has to buy special blackberry ones - i wonder if one  can get them in england?- no0one would know- i'm assuming  most people on this forum  are American

They are available in England.
Look for a MicroSDHC card.

  • 1.3GB of 2GB media card is occupied by 'others' in memory use

I have a 2GB media card and 1.3 GB of which is occupied by this 'others' in memory use. As far as I remember it was around 600 MB when I bought the phone(Curve 9360).I am giving the details of memory use.
    Music  40.5 MB
    Ringtones 567.5 KB
    Pictures 48.9 MB
    Videos 209.1 MB
    Documents 121.1 MB
    Other 1.3 GB
    Free 60.3 MB
    Any help would be appreciated.

Go to the Media > Explore > Media Card and see what folders you have installed there other than the routine Pictures, Music,  Video, etc... for instance I have some third apps which create new folders and store data there (CardStar, flycast, ShowMeTheImages, Themes, Fixmo Screenshots, Databases.
The "other" space is likely occupied by such as that.

  • Media card and phone memory

Hi!  How do I assign certain files (music; photos) etc to go directly to media card and not the phone memory...

    Check the app settings.
For photos, start the camera app and swipe down from the top screen to select the ‘Settings’ option. Then turn on ‘Save Pictures on Media Card’.

  • No memory even though I have a media card

I only have about 20 pics on my phone (saved on media card) & it says I have no room for more pictures. I have no idea what is taking up all my memory space, or where to look in the phone to find out. Also- I had a couple of short videos & they just disappeared.

Hi 1132christy and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
What size media card do you currently have in your BlackBerry smartphone? Can you verify that your pictures are set to save on your media card? From the Camera, press the menu button and chosoe Options to see the option.
    Thanks.

  • Can you add a SD card for extra memory?

    My question is super simple.
I use AT&T, if that makes a difference. I've heard mixed answers from people, so I'm looking for someone who really knows what they are talking about.

No, you cannot use an SD card for extra memory. Access the iPhone users manual and you will see there is no SD slot.

  • XP PC Does not see Media Card. Device Memory and Media Card are not available.....

I am starting a new thread because the old one was marked as resolved and it isn't.
My Windows XP desktop is no longer seeing my BB Storm Media Card. I am getting the error:
"Device Memory and Media Card are not available because the Mass Storage is currently in use."
    I have followed these directions:
    Options > Memory >
    Media Card Supoport - ON
Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) - ON
Mass Storage Mode Support - ON
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - YES
    SAVE
I have application free pace 8.1 MB
    and the error message:
"Device Memory and Media Card are not available because the Mass Storage is currently in use."
The card is there and is seen by my BB Storm. Media > Explore
I have removed and reinstalled the card.
On the desktop I have tried Explore as well as Disk Management and nothing shows up for the Media Card although the Blackberry itself is present.
    Please help.

  • Improving memory usage - decrease "other" in media card

What is "other" in media card memory in the app manager?
Its taking up a lot of space, how can I get rid of it?
Whatsapp is advicing me that my memory is almost full, but it;s the only app I have and the media card can't be full (10 pics and 1 small video).
I've deleted games, not used languages, but still 1,7 GB of "others".

Try to reformat the media card.
Also, keep in mind that everything you download goes to the "others" folder first and after the download is complete, it goes to where it's supposed to be but it leaves a footprint in the "other" folder.
What I'm trying to say is, the 1.7gb you see might be the footprints of the many files you've downloaded in the past.
    Good luck!

    dave...

Hello...if interested, here's a "primer" on how memory on BBs works...the basic answer is no...apps can only reside in the protected AppMemory space...they cannot be installed and functional anywhere else. More details...
There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory.
Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
SD/Media Card Memory-- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:
KB05461MicroSD card sizes supported by the BlackBerry device software
On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:
KB02843What is the Low Memory Manager feature on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14320How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14213Call logs, SMS text messages, and email messages are deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone
Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.
    Good luck!

  • Extra memory Z

    Hello everybody,
I've bought a 8GB Zen and it's very nice! But it's with a sleef to put some extra memory in so i'm trying it but I can't find on my computer the memory via the MP3player...
I want to put music on it so it has to work, no?
    Can anyone help, please!
    Thx,
    Lies (Belgium)

    hello,
A memory Card, plugged in the ZEN player,?is ?NOT VISIBLE on the computer (using eg Windows Explorer), this is regrettable but it's true. You need a card-slot in your PC, or a memorycard reader, attached at the PC.
You have to use SD cards or SDHC cards, the brand mark does'nt matter.
On this? memory-card you can copy folders with music (mp3 or wma files), from your PC's hard disk.
For video it is more complex since there are so many types. Always be aware that your ZEN must support them. As a general rule i should advise you to use the ZEN Media Player program to put this videos on the ZEN, so you are sure that the file is ok for ZEN. Later you can copy this video files from ZEN to the memory card, inserted on the PC. Next, you may delete on ZEN the files copied to the card.
For playing the things?who are?on the SD memorey card: in the ZEN's main menu go to "Memory Card", press enter, and then click "Browse". You'll see at the display all the folders and files who are on?the card. then simply select what you need.

Also as it only came with a 128mb microsd I need more memory can I replace it with an 8GB micro shsd card?
    Thanks in advance
    Graham

How does the media card really work?  I put in a 2gig card.  status shows 1.8,  Does the BB8320 use the extra space automatically?  Does it need to be formatted?  I do not see that the card is really being used.
    Thanks for the tech help

please help, i wiped my device clean then did a back up and everything was back except the things i had on my media card. how do i get it back?

When  you wiped your device, there is an option which you must check in order to wipe your Media card, did you have that checked or unchecked?
I am afraid that the Media Card in included in the backup of the device memory.

  • Airport card and memory

hi im looking into puttin an airport card in to my mac g4 the lamp desktop and was wondering if i need extra memory and what osx it would run on
    hope someone ca

    Hello Aldric, welcome to discussions.
It's quite suspicious that your Airport card and one of your memory modules have suddenly "disappeared" at the same time.
This could certainly indicate a hardware issue, but I won't speculate as to what caused it. Sure, a power surge could do this... have you had one recently?
I would try taking the memory module, and the airport card out of your system, and then re-install them.
If your situation does not improve, then you should probably take your machine to an authorized Apple service center.

  • Cannot copy file from desktop to media card

Whenever I try to copy a file from my desktop to my media card I get an error. When I use the desktop manager software I get the message 'one or more files cannot be copied: FILE_NAME'. When I use Windows Explorer to try the same thing I get the message 'Cannot copy FILE_NAME: parameter is incorrect'.
I do have a proper connection from the desktop to the blackberry because I can open files on the media card and update them. I just have the problem copying the files.
I have been able to copy the files from the desktop to the device memory. Then move it from the device memory to the media card. But there should be no difference between the device memory and the media card.
Note: The file I am trying to copy is a data file (.PDF). While I was having the same problem with music files, I found if I went into advanced parameters from desktop manager and specified the audio file type & bitrate I was able to copy the music file without errors.
    I have a blackberry curve 8300
    16GB media card

When I try to move the files from the Finder Window with the files on the DVD, I do not get the plus sign when I try to drag it to the desktop or any other window. Even when I try with the option key pressed, there is no plus sign with the mouse arrow. Someone suggested to use the terminal and I did. It was a hassle, though.

  • Problem with storing pictures to the Media Card

I set my 8330 to store pictures to the media card.  It works for a while and then the device reverts to storing it on the device memory.  It does this without asking or telling me that it's done so.  It's very frustrating.  Anybody have any idea why it would do this?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
That's a very odd situation. Can you tell us, when this happens, does your BB "see" the media card at all? For instance, if when you notice this, can you do Media > Explore and get to the media card still?
Another thing to check is your device OS version -- perhaps there is an update from your carrier that has fixes that would be useful...you can check your carrier via this portal:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
If your device OS is current, then you might want to try a different media card...perhaps there is something amiss with the one you have.
Also, how to do you go about recovering and getting it to again store on the media card?
    Thanks!
