Media card has errors

I recently received this message from my Blackberry-
A media card has been inserted that contains errors. To correct the erors please use a disk error checking utility on a computer.
Can anyone help me or guide me?
Thanks,
Harvey G

Hi
Here is a solution that I can give to you it has helped me quite alot with the same problem that I had with my Blackberry Curve 8520.
Note: Make sure that your media card is inside of your blackberry before you can follow step 3 - 7 and always make sure to turn off your blackberry and to take out your media card when you are following step 1 and 2.
1. Make everything a backup from your OLD CELPHONE for ex. videos, music, funny ringtones, pictures etc.
2. put all the backup in a folder and then after you have done that put it the folder on your external hardrive or desktop.
3. Install the Blackberry desktop manager that have came with your blackberry.
4. After you have install the Blackberry Desktop Manager, then you install the Blackberry PC USB Cable that has came with you blackberry celphone after you've done that a automatic display will show then you just close it.
5. Then you go to the drive where your blackberry is located in Computer or My Computer then you right click on that drive of your blackberry then go under where it says FORMAT then you click once. after done that then click format if it says there quick format then a pop up question will ask are you sure you want to format this drive then click yes.
6. After formatting the drive shut down the blackberry for 10 or 5 minutes, after 5 or 10 minutes are finished just power the blackberry back on. then you will see that this problem of yours is gone.
7. Then you can plug the cable back in and you can copy and paste all those backup into your blackberry.
I Hope that will help you out.
Enjoy your Day.

  • 8110 shutting off, dropping calls, restarting with "media card removed" error message

we have a brand new AT&T red pearl 8110, OS v4.5. We have not loaded any applications on the phone, and we do not have a media card installed. Several times now the phone just shuts off, then restarts itself. this even happens during the middle of a phone call. It is my wifes phone so i cannot give any more specifics, but she says she has noted now that it says something like "media card removed" right before it shuts off, then the white screen comes with the hourglass of death, then it verifies security settings and is back to "normal". Any ideas? I am within the 30 day window ot return, but figure this must be a fixable problem (or am hoping so). Thanks!

My BB pearl started by doing the same thing. For the past month or so it has randomly been doing this. Today it has been shutting down then rebooting and 10 seconds after it reboots it does it again. I had to call T mobile and they are sending out a replacement. I cant even retrieve my contacts.

  • Please help!!!!!! BB 8310 Sandisk SDHC 4GB Media Card Formatting Error

Please help.  I bought a Sandisk SDHC 4GB Memory Card and I keep getting this message after I choose format.
"Media card cannot be read.  Verify that the menory card is formatted".
I updated the software in my 8310 from 4.2 to 4.5, having been told that was the problem.  I've taken the battery and the memory card out of the phone for several minutes and reinstalled just to get the same error message.  Why is is so difficult to get this thing to work?  Are there settings that need to be change or is there a way of doing this through desktop manager?  I'm reading that you can format the card on your computer, I have no clue how to do that and especially with a PC with Vista.
Is it easier to return the memory card and buy one that is formatted?  Please help, I've wasted the better part of a weekend with this already.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The message says the Blackberry can sense a media card but cannot read the card.
Irwinll is correct that returning it is the easiest, but a card reader will be useful to you.
They are about $10.00 and well worth the price.
    Thanks,

  • Blackberry Bold Media Card Backup

I'm new to the Blackberry (Bold 9650), so I might be missing what I've been looking for.  Most of the time, when I start, and particularly reboot my device, it always comes up with the message saying that the new media card has errors and asks if I want to correct the errors.  Then it asks me if I want to save lost clusters.
A service tech told me to back up my data card to the computer and then reformat my card.
    Questions:
    1.     Is the data card and the media card the same?
    2.     Will all data, including video and pictures be saved?
    3.     How do I save it to the computer?
    4.     This is a brand new phone with card.  Why is it damaged?
Thank you for any advice and help you can give.

A service tech told me to back up my data card to the computer and then reformat my card.
    Questions:
    1.     Is the data card and the media card the same? Yes, the two names are referring to the same thing.
    2.     Will all data, including video and pictures be saved? That depends on how much damage there is to the card, if there is any.  Correct errors, save lost clusters....sounds like a bad card.  Data may or may not be recoverable, and all you can do is try.
    3.     How do I save it to the computer? You'll need a slot on your computer or a card reader, and if it is a micro SD, you'll need an adapter to fit it into the computer slot or card reader.  My micro SD came with an adapter - you can find them at places like Office Max, Staples, Best Buy, etc.  Put the card in the slot and read it like any other drive - copy everything on the card to a folder on your computer.  Then you can reformat the card, "fix" any errors, and try to recopy the information back to the card.  Me?  I'd spend another $10 and get a new card.
    4.     This is a brand new phone with card.  Why is it damaged?   It happens. The cards are so tiny, and delicate, they get damaged easily.  If the phopne came with the card already installed, it may be under warranty and you can get it replaced at the store where you got the phone.  Do the backup of all your information on the card, then take it in and see if they will replace the card.
Thank you for any advice and help you can give.

  • Bad media card

    Can someone please help?!?
I've recently had some issues with my phone and needing to reboot it and now it says my media card has errors on it and I no longer have any of my ringtones or pictures.
The message reads, "A media card has been inserted that contains errors.  To correct the errors please use a disk error-checking utility on a  computer."
I'm hoping that someone out there knows how to correct this issue and help me get all of my things back.
    Thanks!

    Hi
The Blackberry is designed to be reset by removing the battery whilst the device is powered-on. Leave the battery out for a minute or 2. Whilst it's out, remove the MC and clean the contacts with a little rubbing alcohol or methelated spirit but NOT water.
See if that resolves the problem.
If not, take the card back for a replacement.

  • Sudden Media Card error..?

Hello everyone. For the past few weeks, my media card in my BB 8900, which has been working fine before this suddenly started, has now been displaying the following error message whenever I unplug it from my wall-charger or my USB connection cord that came with my phone.:
"A Media Card has been inserted that contains errors. To correct the errors please use a disk error-checking utility on a computer."
I've been looking though my manuals and docs that came with my BlackBerry and can't find any info on this particular issue.
Needless to say, I'm unable to turn on the 'Store to Memory Device' option in my phone due to this issue.
I tried to fix the disc via this message in the forums by a user having a similar problem. However, I had a problem. I hooked my BlackBerry up to my USB and my G:\ directory appeared. (I'm running Windows Vista). I clicked on my (G directory, then clicked on 'Tools' in the bar at the top of the My Computer window. The 'Removable Disk (G Properties' window appereared, and I selected 'Tools'. I saw an option titled 'Error-checking', and I clicked the button under it (titled, 'Check Now..').
The moment I clicked on 'Check Now...', an error message popped up reading, "The disk check could not be performed because Windows cannot access the disk".
I'm at a loss as to what to do! If anyone can help or offer any suggestions, it would be VERY MUCH and GREATLY appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this!

PROBLEM FIXED! But I'd like to share just in case anyone else is having or happens to run into the same problem..!
Make sure your card is in your BB.
Go to your main screen. You just need to Format your card. To do this, do the following:
Clck Menu > Options > Memory > Menu > Select 'Format'.
In a second or two your card should be fine and back to functioning normally!

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forums!
It is not uncommon to buy a "dead" card. I would simply return it.
You can run diagnostics and possibly repair some errors, but for how long?
You  payed good money for a device that functions properly, get your monies worth.
That said I will give you some information to verify that the media card size is supported by

  • Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310 - HELP

Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310.
I had a battery drain problem. The unit would only last 16 hours before completely drained. Purchased a new battery with the same result. I figured that I should try a complete reset so I did a hard wipe. Once that was done and I loaded the unit back up and returned online, the battery drain problem was resolved but now I can not access the media card.
     Here are the messages:
“A media card has been inserted that contains encrypted content which will be unaccessible by this device”
I can see the files. I have transferred them to my PC via the SD card but I can not open them. Here are the settings:
     Media card support – ON
Encryption Mode: - Security Password & Device
    Encrypt Media Files – YES
Mass Storage Mode Support – OFF
Please note – I can not change the encryption mode since it is set by policy
Security Options – General Settings – Content Protection – Disabled
The version of Desktop Manage I am using is 4.2.1.8. When I try to use the Media Manager to move the files, I get an error message and can’t move the file. If I access the file on the card and try to display it, I get:
     Unable to display file /media card/ pictures/ing000000xx.jpg.rem
Here is what I have tried (from the advice on this board):
     1)     Read the files directly off the media card – No good
    2)     Create a “new” folder on the media card and move a file into it then try to read it – No good
    3)     Email the file then read it – No good
    4)     Reset Encryption mode to off then try – Can’t do it – IT Policy setting
    5)     Be sure that the password was set the same as before the wipe (setting is password & device) – Can’t do it – The Blackberry prevents me from using an old password.
So I think I can’t read the files because I can’t replicate the encryption key. Could that be right? My problem is that I do not understand why this would be the case. It is still the same device and since it knows what the old password was (because it would prevent me from using it again), why would it not generate a key to access the files?
All I am trying to get off the card are pictures on my 6 year old … some are priceless. Can someone help me do this? One would think that this should not be this hard but from all the postings I have found, it seems that it is. And yes, shame on me for not moving the files before I did the reset (THAT will never happen again!) but this being unrecoverable is unconscionable given how many seem to find themselves in this situation.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Not sure why you couldn't see them using mass storage mode. Did you have the pics stored on your media card? Try going to media-menu-explore-media card-blackberry-pictures See what the extension is on your pics. If any have the extension such as .jpg.rem they are encrypted.

  • Media card repair failed

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Anyway I bought my Curve 9360 in January from the o2 store. Last month a message popped up on my screen saying 'a media card has been inserted that contains errors. Do you wish to repair the Media Card now' I clicked yes. After that I got another message saying 'If lost clusters are found during the repair, do you want to save them?' again I pressed yes. The problem was successfully repaired. Today the same thing happened except this time it said 'Media card repair failed'. I searched how to repair it but I don't seem to understand how to do it.
Could somebody explain to me, in easy words that I will understand.
    Thank you

There is a good chance the media card is going bad.  Highly recommend you get a replacement.

  • Saved messages to Media Card?

I am trying to free up some memory and would like to move saved messages to my media card. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Currently my media card has pictures saved to it, as well as one song. It has ample space available. Can anyone please explain how to move saved messages to my media card?

You can't unless you use a third party application.
You may be able to when OS 4.5 is released. Not sure on that one.

  • AME CC 2014: "Adobe Media Encoder has encountered an unexpected error and cannot continue."

Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 on MacPro "mid-2012" (MacPro5,1) running OSX 10.9.3 and getting this error when trying to launch Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014:
    Adobe Media Encoder Error
Adobe Media Encoder has encountered an unexpected error and cannot continue.
Have uninstalled, reinstalled.  Checked and fixed permissions numerous times.  Tried removing all plugins and that didn't fix.  Also tried editing the text listings within the .app for OpenGL and CUDA to remove all cards listed - that didn't fix anything either.
At this point it's uninstalled and "hopefully" everything will point to CC (non-2014 version).  Adobe Media Encoder CC works fine.  Adobe Media Encoder CS6 works fine.
Cannot find any other reports of this issue.

Progress in trying to fix.  This workaround was NOT successful on previous attempts, but now appears to be working.  Seems like the trick was to have AME CC 2014 started and open BEFORE doing any of this?  As always, make sure all of your permissions are set properly - had done that numerous times previously.  My issue was NOT directly permission related.
    Navigate to the following folder:
You may see a file SHORTCUT that is invalid called "Presets":
    Remove/delete this file.  It's a broken shortcut.
Move a folder of .EPR files into the "8.0" folder.  Call it anything except "Presets".  Go to AME CC 2014 and quit.  (I was greeted with another crash message.)
Open AME CC 2014 again.  Your presets will not be loaded yet, but you should see an XML file that was created in your new folder like this:
    Delete this file.
You should see a new folder also created by AME called "Presets".  Move your .EPR files into this folder and delete the original folder.  Quit AME CC 2014.  (I was greeted with ANOTHER crash message.)
Open AME CC 2014.  Your preset files should be there at the top under the preset browser:
Probably a good idea to keep a copy of those .EPR files elsewhere

  • Media card cannot be accessed due to fatal errors.

I keep getting that message and ive tried pulling the battery....What happened was i did a battery pull because my phone was frozen and then when i put it back in the media card stopped working. What can i do to solve this?!
    I have searched everywhere......

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is a KB that discusses that error:
KB14745 "Memory card contains error, please use disk checking utility on computer" appears on the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone
Hopefully it contains something useful! You might have to use a media card reader on a PC rather than directly through the tethered BB.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Error: "... check that your media card is properly inserted in your device."

On my Blackberry Z10 I got the error  "The file could not be found.  Check the URL and try again.  If the URL is correct, check that your media card is properly inserted in your device."
This came up when I simply clicked on an email.  I don't have a media card, and the email I clicked on had worked a few seconds before, and starting working again when I tried it probably 30 minutes later.  Several other emails had the same issue at the time, and now do not.
So... the error has evaprorated, but I fear it will return.
Has anyone else encountered this?  Should I be afraid?  Should I take my phone back for warranty service?

It's weird for sure. When something weird like that happens on my Z10 I'll restart it (top button to start countdown then let go and press restart in bottom right corner). If it's still acting unusual, I'll press and hold the power button for 30 seconds through all the normal prompts until you see the square with the BlackBerry logo in it. Then release the power button. Also, keep in mind that the warranty is a year.
