Media card out of space

My bb curve media card is out of space. The options say 85% full from section "other" and i can not find out what the section other includes. So i was wondering if someone could help me?

I believe I stumbled on the cause and solution to my own problem. The wireless sync software module of the media player has been active at all times. Whenever an event occurred on the device, it would trigger the wireless sync function and automatically start playing the available MP3 files. By removing the wireless sync module, the media player does not start blasting music at the wrong time and in the wrong places. Since I only want to sync with music on my PC, it is no big deal to manually move (USB) music files to the storage card of the BlackBerry.

MicroSD Media Card is not being recognized by my BB 8100

Hi,
I currently have that problem with my Blackberry Pearl 8100.
I put it a New 1 GB MicroSD (Patriot) card and connected the cable to the PC and on the PC I created a folder and added the music to it and pictures. It worked fine but one day I took the SIM card out just because and when my phone restarted it would not go pass the providers screen. It stays there, it seems it freezes and it cannot be turned off. So, I took the media card out and turned it on and it displays the screen with no problem. So again I turned it off and installed the card back in and it still the same problem. I also somehow I installed the media card in the phone without taking the battery out but it still doesn't recognize the card. Under Options says card is not installed.
The first time I installed the card I don't think it was formatted(not sure). But it was working fine.
I have installed another card and it still doesn't recognize another card. Also,the media card I tried it on another phone and it is not recognized.
Why would it work the first time as BrandonV(below) but not even locate it or make the phone not work while it has the Media card in?
BrandonV, if you found a solution please let me know.
Anyone else be kind enough to propose a solution.

Don't know why the BB would stop seeing the media card, but as far as your important stuff... have you tried putting the card into a reader hooked up to the PC to at least retrieve that stuff or move it to that other card that does work?

1) With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery.
2) Remove the media card
3) Insert the battery and replace the back cover.
4) After boot up (~5 mins), check your Memory stats to be sure that is says that no media card is present.
5) Pull out the battery again
6) Put the media card back in and then insert the battery and reboot
7) Launch the Media app and see if it is "Scanning" the media card (as it does for any new media card insertion).

BB Pearl not Recognizing Media Card

I have a 2GB Kingston MicroSD card installed in my BB. It has been working fine for the past month or so (since I got the phone) and has 4 or 5 pictures and another 5 of 6 ringtones stored on it. Earlier this week, I had been hooking the phone up to the computer using the USB cable and it would prompt me if I wanted to access the media. I would say no and go on from there. Then Wednesday, all of a sudden the BB started no longer recognizing the card. Today, I went into the settings and they are:
Media Card Support - On
Encryption Mode - None
Mass Storage Mode Support - On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - Prompt
A media card is not presently inserted in the device.
I take the media card out and plug it into the computer and it is still showing all the files on there. When I plug the phone into the computer, it is not being recognized by the computer.
Any suggestions?

When you say "use a Smart Media Card," what do you mean exactly?
If you mean, for instance, take pictures with your camera, take the Smart Media Card out of it and hoot it up to your PB to download the pix, then sure, there are lots of readers out there. Here's a cheap example that happens to use a USB connection. There are also, I'm pretty sure, readers that hook up to your PB via a PC Card adapter.
Is this what you had in mind, or were you thinking of something different?

Media Card

I have a 8330 BlackBerry. When I go to Options and click on Media Card, it says, "Media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted". When I format it I get a message that reads, "Media Card Format Failed". Any solutions?

I recommend that you take the media card out of the phone and try to read it on a PC. If it reads OK, I would then back up the files on the card (on to the PC) and format the card using the PC's system which is more thorough than the phones format system.
If you have problems reading the media card on your PC, use the data recovery tools in your PC operating system to try and recover the media card contents.
If the PC format is successful, then return the media card to your phone and see if can be read. You may need to format it (in the phone). FYI; format in the phone typically is just to create the folders for your files (pictures, music, documents, etc.).
Now copy your 'backed up' files from the PC onto the media card and you should be good.
If none of these operations are successful, you may have a damaged media card and need a replacement.

Ok i have a 1Gb Media Card in my Pearl and it was working fine up to the time i took it out one day and now my phone says its not present anymore...i tried putting an other media card in there and the other card works so i dont unerstand why this one doesnt work. I have alot of stuff on my Media Card that is important to me and that its the only place i have them so...

SD Media Card

Just recently my two sd media cards stopped displaying on my desktop. I had no problem displaying the sd cards on my desktop in the past.
What I have been doing lately is to take the sd media cards out of my camera and plug them into a card reader that is hooked up to my mac with usb cord so it will display on screen and then I open up any photos from that display.
The sd cards will work if I lode them thru my camera into my Mac Iphoto.
Any settings that need to be checked or any ideas.

Try a different cable between the card reader and the Mac, or even a different card reader. The card reader I bought a while back looked like an amazing bargain, reader and cable for less than a USB cable alone! Should have realized that meant the cable included with commodity-market quality card readers is, shall we say, made to minimal standards, and prone (if not guaranteed) to fray and break with use.

Home media server for mac, that you can also get to remotely. Any ideas? I am out of space on my macbook pro hard drive and appletv. Need some sort of media server for delivery to macs, ipods, ipads, etc. Any suggestions?

I have been using my macbook pro as a home media server, hosting most content on the macbook with ipod touch, ipads, and appletv streaming/sharing content. I have run out of space on both the macbook pro and the apple tv and am looking to moving the content to a home media server. Any thoughts/suggestions? I'd like something that I can access remotely too. I have an old slingbox and also have a static IP address.

Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

ok..I was able to remove the media card by propping up the computer on its side on two 4x4 lumber, then reached
in the slot with a thin feeler guage and pulled it out. The slot has a flexible boot of sort which inhibits the
media card from falling out.

Media Card space

So I got a media card to expand my BB Curve Titanium's storage capacity. I bought an 8GB card that did not work when I tried to format it so i bought another one (different brand) from another store and this one formatted just fine. However, after it formatted the total and free space available said 3.3GB. Where did the other 4.7GB go??

Please make note that the maximum media card space is set by your OS on the BlackBerry (options > About).
So, compare your OS to the chart and see what your max media card size is.

Do media cards suck the life out of your battery?

I just inserted a media card to my bb curve last night, and my battery was dead this morning when I woke up (it was next to fully charged last night). Anyone know if the media card sucks battery life? I'm pretty sure all the applications were closed. And, I don't think the phone shut down when scheduled either, so I'm wondering if something is running in the background now. Any advice would be appreciated.

No, a media card won't do that, in itself.
However--inserting a media card does cause the device to scan, index and create cache files, and thumbnails of the files and images on a media card, still not enough to drain a battery.
It is very likely only coincidental, and you probably did have something running in the background like an open active browser page or application.

Installing DM knocked out all USB and Media Card Reader

I installed the DM 4.3 from the CD tonight. Hooked up the BB and everything worked fine. Loaded some music onto the media card and downloaded some pictures. Then I unhooked to see if the music was on the Blackberry, when I hooed it back up, it wouldn't recognize. I tried a few times, then uninstalled the software, re-installed, still nothing, then un-installed and downloaded 4.7 and installed, still nothing, now my computer doesn't recognize ANY USB ports (web-cam, Media Center Remote) and none of the Media Card reader drives are visible in My Computer. When I insert the SD card from my camera, nothing. I uninstalled 4.7 and still nothing. Now I'm worried..

Media Card Issue *maybe*

I have a 2GB media card in my bberry curve 8330 and when I'm trying to save some pictures to it it's showing "Directory Full" but when I look at my avail free space it's showing 1.1GB Free. I'm stumped as I can't figure out how to save when it's showing no avail space.

I also wanted to know what folders I should see on my phone when I go into Media, Explore, Media Card ? From some of the threads I've been reading they mention that you should see blackberry,documents, music etc right under Media Card but mine is laid out as below

inside Blackberry Folder is
subfolders documents, music, pictures, ringtones, videos & voicenotes
I've always saved all my pictures, videos etc to folder Media Card only not any subfolders...could that be the reason I got the msg "Directory Full" ?
Tonight I'm going to try uploading all of my stuff onto my home computer, doing a memory card format and then redownloading all of my info into the approp folders on the media card.

hi. i have a torch 9810 smartphone thats not acting so smart.. :-) or could be me. well.. theres only 512mb memory for download apps to, only downloaded 4 and its full. how do i change the settings to use a media card to fit more apps onto..

Hello...if interested, here's a "primer" on how memory on BBs works...the basic answer is no...apps can only reside in the protected AppMemory space...they cannot be installed and functional anywhere else. More details...
There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory.
Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
SD/Media Card Memory-- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:

On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:

KB14213Call logs, SMS text messages, and email messages are deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone
Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.

No memory even though I have a media card

I only have about 20 pics on my phone (saved on media card) & it says I have no room for more pictures. I have no idea what is taking up all my memory space, or where to look in the phone to find out. Also- I had a couple of short videos & they just disappeared.

What size media card do you currently have in your BlackBerry smartphone? Can you verify that your pictures are set to save on your media card? From the Camera, press the menu button and chosoe Options to see the option.
