MEDIA CARD PASSWORD/ENCRYPTION

I recently had to change my password for my blackberry (my firms policy). I did this but then later  i forgot it.
My IT Dept reset my password so that i can access my blackberry, BUT when i then tried to access my pictures (media card) it asked for the pasword (which i had FORGOTTEN).
So my question is quite simple: How do i access my MEDIA CARD while its encrypted and asking for a password.
I have already tried to switch off the Encryption on the Media card  and the unit itself...and still it doesnt work.
Can ANYONE HELP or offer some advice.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
This may not end well, sorry.
Have you tried using the new password to access the media card?
You probably won't be able to turn off encryption as an IT policy may be in place. You can ask for a temporary removal of the IT policy to see if the files can be accessed. I've attached some links for reference.

  • Media card password

My daughter's Torch 9800 broke, so it has been replaced.  Before sending it off, I backed up the phone content, and removed the media card.
Having replaced the card in the new phone, it is now asking for the media card password....I have no idea what that would be - would be the same as the phone lock password, or would that have been set separately (i don't recall doing that)
If I can't recall the password, is there any other way that i can restore the back up, without the encryption?  At the moemnt my daughter can't access her music or photos, so Dad is getting a great deal of grief!

    Hi,
I wish i cud help u out but this is strange that without setting up any password, its asking for a password...try giving the phone's lock password...unlike bluetooth handsfree, there is no preset password for a card...
As far as i knw, there is no option by which u can access the card at home...wud suggest u to take the card to a ph repair shop, might they can do sumthing...
    with regards

  • After official upgrade to 10.2.1 get message that media card is encrypted on another device

    Please help !
I got a message a few hours ago that there is an update available to my Z10 STL100-1, running on Orange.
I never did a leaked update always waited to get the notification for the official ones.
I have always had my media card (micros sd) encrypted from the beginning and ran through at least 2-3 updates untill now.
After todays update to 10.2.1.537 was finished and rebooted, I got the message that my media card was encrypted in another device and in order to use it I have to go to settings and wipe/format it.
I tried copying the files to PC but they will not open.
Please help, I have some very important photos and files on that card that I need to get back.
How could they do this to me ?

    It's not personal.
Did you do a backup before doing the update?

  • Reset to factory defaults using JL_Cmder. Media card was encrypted, now unable to access mediacard

I bought my 8300 used and was unhappy to see a IT policy was in place. After searching and searching the only way to succesfully remove the IT policy (FULLY) was by restoring the phone to factory default using JL_Cmder. I backed up my data, wiped the device, and restored my data. After I rebooted I started getting an error warning that the media card is encrypted to another device and I  am unable to access any of the previously encrypted files. My media card was set to encrypt by Device, and its still the same device, just wiped.
How can I remove the encryption or get my media card to recognize that it is still the same device?

if you have the ability to plug the media card into your PC, copy the data off it. then format it, put it back in device, format it again, then xfer data back over.

  • Problem with OS 10.2.0.424 and Media Card Encryption

Several weeks ago I upgraded to OS 10.2.0.424.  Everything went fine, no problems.  My phone worked perfectly.
Then over one week later I turned my phone on in the morning and after it had booted it said "your media card was encrypted on a different device.  You will need to reformat your media card on this device before you can use it".
Now, the following should be noted very carefully:  THE MEDIA CARD WAS BOUGHT SPECIFICALLY FOR MY Z10, IT WAS FORMATTED IN THE SAME HANDSET, ENCRYPTED IN THE SAME HANDSET AND HAS ***NEVER*** BEEN OUT OF THE HANDSET.
As far as I am concerned, this is a fault with the upgrade.  Having looked on Crackberry.com I see many other users having a similar problem.  I am fortunate in that I do weekly backups of my handset including the media card.  However I am reluctant to use my media card again in case this problem recurs.
I tried contacting Blackberry help on Twitter however I can only assume that the Blackberry Twitter team are sub-contractors who don't work for BT as their advice was along the lines of "have you tried rebooting?  You have?  Oh well, you'll need to speak to your mobile provider as there's nothing we can do."
Please, Blackberry, can you acknowledge this fault and advise what your timescale is for resolution?
    A dissatisfied loyal Blackberry customer.

If the user removes the media card from the BlackBerry device and places it in a new BlackBerry device, the new BlackBerry device cannot decrypt any files that the first BlackBerry device encrypted on the media card using a randomly generated device key. If the first BlackBerry device encrypted the files on the media card using the BlackBerry device password, when the user removes the media card from the BlackBerry device and places it in a new BlackBerry device, the new BlackBerry device prompts the user for the password used on the first BlackBerry device to access the files on the new device.
    The above is from BlackBerry:
I can only assume that Upgrading is like changing Devices, so before Upgrading save all data.

  • Media manager won't recognise media card or contents

I'm getting frustrated here... the Blackberry used with the old Roxio PC software work fine. The laptop has been rebuilt, and the new BB Media manager does not want to recognise the photos I have stored on the Media card. I can upload them individually (there are around 300 of them) to Facebook or similar, I can bluetooth them individually to my Apple. But can not get them off or access them on mass. The Apple PC says "Unable to locate media card". The Windows PC says the media card is encrypted. I want these pics, what am I doing wrong?
I also remember when I had the first BB that I could access all the files as if the BB and media card were HDDs - now, despite loading the USB drivers that will not work.
Can anyone help please - apologies if this is a fixed problem already... I have searched the boards but nothing is coming up that answers the problem.
    Thanks
    Adam

These are files from an SD card camera so have no natural reel numbe
Well, if you use Log and Transfer then FCP will assign it one. I use L&T for P2 and for the footage from my Canon DSLR, and FCP assigns it the name of the folder that I offloaded the SD card onto. Which is why I give the folders unique names...tape names.
Maybe FCP won't recompress properly as you aren't using an editing codec to begin with. "I have some h264 .mp4 files that I want to recompress into motion jpeg files for offline editing on my Macbook Pro." H.264 isn't designed for editing, so it might not work right. First convert to ProRes 422, then media manage smaller.

  • Transfer files of an encrypted media card to another BB Q10 via BBM connection

Hi, I want to transfer files from my encrypted media card (encrypted by using my device password) via BBM to another BB Q10. Will the receiving party require a decryption password to read a file? Can a file from my encrypted media card be displayed on the receiving party's BBQ10 after transfer at all?
    Many thanks in advance

Yes, it will be displayed if you send it from that device. NO de-encryption needed for pictures via BBM.
    What type file is this?

  • Blackberry Q5 Media Card Encrypted. Cannot View files after doing Wipe

I have Blackberry Q5 media card that was encrypted. When it was full a removed that and changed with the new SD card. Later, I wiped my blackberry device.
Now I wanted to view the files stored on my old media card that was encrypted on same blackberry device but I am unable to do so. I am using the same device with same device lock password.
    Please advice. Thanks in Advance.

If i do device switch then i understand. But when I wipe only my contacts and applications and "not the media card", i  don't remember that it warned me that i will not be able to use my media card again. I am using the same device, same device password and the same media card then why the blackberry will not allow me to view my files. What is the logic here?
The other person cannot have my device, my media card and my password all with him to breach my privacy isn't it?

  • Bridge Files app and media card encryption..

Just wanted to note clearly, in hopes that someone from RIM will see, that opening files over the Bridge Files app is almost useless if your BES admins force media card encryption on, like mine do. All files saved on the MicroSD card are encrypted and have a .rem extension appended to the filename. When this happens, the Bridge Files app is too dumb to see the file and decrypt it.
It is clear to me that this could be fixed in a software update and I hope it will be. It dramatically limits the usefulness of the bridge. I can't open any file saved with the bridge browser, or anything that comes as an email attachment. Most annoying..
Can anyone comment on whether RIM has made a statement anywhere on whether this will be fixed or not?
    Thanks!!

  • Recovering encrypted files from media card

    Dear all,
during the last holidays I took lots of pictures with my BB Z10. Pictures are automatically stored on the microSD media card. Unfortunately, the smartphone fell into salty water and now is "dead" ... In the meantime I got a brandnew Z10, inserted the media card, but got the information, that the card has been encrypted with another device, so I am not able to get access to the pictures. For decrypting the files, I would have to use the same device which has been used for encrypting. Unfortunately this is not possible.
Is there any possibility to get access to the pictures, which are very valuable to me ...   ???
    Thank you in advance
    RoJaSa

there is no way around it unless you had a backup of the phone and even still the encryption might still be in place

  • Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310 - HELP

Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310.
I had a battery drain problem. The unit would only last 16 hours before completely drained. Purchased a new battery with the same result. I figured that I should try a complete reset so I did a hard wipe. Once that was done and I loaded the unit back up and returned online, the battery drain problem was resolved but now I can not access the media card.
     Here are the messages:
“A media card has been inserted that contains encrypted content which will be unaccessible by this device”
I can see the files. I have transferred them to my PC via the SD card but I can not open them. Here are the settings:
     Media card support – ON
Encryption Mode: - Security Password & Device
    Encrypt Media Files – YES
Mass Storage Mode Support – OFF
Please note – I can not change the encryption mode since it is set by policy
Security Options – General Settings – Content Protection – Disabled
The version of Desktop Manage I am using is 4.2.1.8. When I try to use the Media Manager to move the files, I get an error message and can’t move the file. If I access the file on the card and try to display it, I get:
     Unable to display file /media card/ pictures/ing000000xx.jpg.rem
Here is what I have tried (from the advice on this board):
     1)     Read the files directly off the media card – No good
    2)     Create a “new” folder on the media card and move a file into it then try to read it – No good
    3)     Email the file then read it – No good
    4)     Reset Encryption mode to off then try – Can’t do it – IT Policy setting
    5)     Be sure that the password was set the same as before the wipe (setting is password & device) – Can’t do it – The Blackberry prevents me from using an old password.
So I think I can’t read the files because I can’t replicate the encryption key. Could that be right? My problem is that I do not understand why this would be the case. It is still the same device and since it knows what the old password was (because it would prevent me from using it again), why would it not generate a key to access the files?
All I am trying to get off the card are pictures on my 6 year old … some are priceless. Can someone help me do this? One would think that this should not be this hard but from all the postings I have found, it seems that it is. And yes, shame on me for not moving the files before I did the reset (THAT will never happen again!) but this being unrecoverable is unconscionable given how many seem to find themselves in this situation.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Not sure why you couldn't see them using mass storage mode. Did you have the pics stored on your media card? Try going to media-menu-explore-media card-blackberry-pictures See what the extension is on your pics. If any have the extension such as .jpg.rem they are encrypted.

  • Media card encryprion code

My phone wouldn't recognise unlock code so it wiped everything and when it rebooted I saw for the first time in 18 months that I needed a media card encryption code which was used to protect files so I presumed was the same as new unlock code but its not and I've lost music and photos and downloaded files

That's unfortunate, but yes if you had the Media Card encrypted at the time, you will not be able to access those media files now that you've wiped and changed the security password.

  • Media card - 2 GB - memory problem

8100 Pearl - unable to load more than about 200 mb of mp3 music.  Card shows plenty of add'l space available, but get error message that card is full.  Have formatted card several times in the phone and reloaded mp3s.  Same problem.  Ideas?

I just installed a 2gb card and music.  in options/advanced options/media card, my settings are

  • BB Pearl not Recognizing Media Card

I have a 2GB Kingston MicroSD card installed in my BB.  It has been working fine for the past month or so (since I got the phone) and has 4 or 5 pictures and another 5 of 6 ringtones stored on it.  Earlier this week, I had been hooking the phone up to the computer using the USB cable and it would prompt me if I wanted to access the media.  I would say no and go on from there.  Then Wednesday, all of a sudden the BB started no longer recognizing the card.  Today, I went into the settings and they are:
    Media Card Support - On
    Encryption Mode - None
Mass Storage Mode Support - On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - Prompt
A media card is not presently inserted in the device.
I take the media card out and plug it into the computer and it is still showing all the files on there.  When I plug the phone into the computer, it is not being recognized by the computer.
    Any suggestions?

  • Broken Phone, useless media card?

I had device encryption enabled on my old blackberry, but now the keyboard won't work, so the device is pretty much useless!
Is there a way I can put the card into my computer and read the data from it?  Otherwise, it looks like I'm going to lose al the data on it, and that's not something I really want to deal with!

Can't you scroll to Options and press the trackball to selection options.
Scroll to Advanced > press trackball
scroll to Media Card > Press the trackball
scroll to  the encrytion option and perss the trackball, scroll to the disabled setting and select with the track ball.
    etc., etc., and so on?
