Media Card won't format

I just got the blackberry curve, 8330, and bought a media card. I inserted the card and have been trying to format it, but all it does is freeze my blackberry. is it a bad card? what am I doing wrong here?

You could have a bad card.  Try formatting it on a pc and see what happens.

  • Hp pavilion dv4-1123us Media Card won't read

I have a hp Pavilion dv4-1123us laptop that won't read a 16 GB SDHC media card. The card works in my PC, so the card is good. I have a Scandisk 5-1 media reader hooked to my home PC that would not read it but I found through Scandisk site I needed to download the latest Firmware which I did and now the card works on my PC. The reader has always and still does read a 512 MB and a 2 GB XD cards on my laptop. I am running XP Pro OS.
I have searched the HP site for driver downloads but only see them for Windows 7 and 8 not XP.
Can someone help me on this?

    Hello wgray826,
You’re having a problem not being able to read a 16GB SDHC card.
I think that your computer does not support the SDHC card.
Here is a link to your user guide and what cards it supports.
I noticed that it shows the Secure Digital but not the Secure Digital High Capacity.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!
Let me know how everything goes.

    hello,
I strongly advise you to format the memory card with something else than the Blackberry. If you really have to do it from the blackberry, the procedure is here :

  • Do media cards suck the life out of your battery?

I just inserted a media card to my bb curve last night, and my battery was dead this morning when I woke up (it was next to fully charged last night). Anyone know if the media card sucks battery life? I'm pretty sure all the applications were closed. And, I don't think the phone shut down when scheduled either, so I'm wondering if something is running in the background now. Any advice would be appreciated.

No, a media card won't do that, in itself.
However--inserting a media card does cause the device to scan, index and create cache files, and thumbnails of the files and images on a media card, still not enough to drain a battery.
It is very likely only coincidental, and you probably did have something running in the background like an open active browser page or application.

  • Multi Media Card Compatibility

    Hi,
Can you confirm if a Multi Media Card should be compatible with my Laptop. I have a 1G MMC card which is not recognised by the laptop, whilst a 32G SDHC card works as expected. I have downloaded and installed driver package sp69617 and this has made no difference.
I suspect it is not compatible with the Laptop but confirmation would be appreciated.

    following digital card formats:
    ● Secure Digital (SD) Memory Card
    ● Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) Memory Card
So no MMC. Sorry. Your only option is an inexpensive usb to MMC card reader:

I installed a media card and it does not reflect my upgrade.  Is there something I need to do?

Hi and wellcome to the forums!
    Try this:
Check your memory card is combpatible (go to OPTIONS ABOUT verion looks like 4.x.x.xxx.
Here is the sizes per OS:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB05461
    First a video!
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-6-how-install-microsdhc-card-your-blackberry
Format the card in the BB use :
OPTIONS -MEDIA CARD - menu key - FORMAT.
First make sure the following options are set:
    Media Card window ON
     Encryption NONE
     Mass storage support ON
    Auto enable when connected  YES
On your media card do you have these folders?
    Blackberry
    Pictures
    Music
    Ringtones
    Videos
    Voicenotes
this is the folder structure that the Blackberry needs to allocate the media to.
You can then use the Drag and drop through Windows. Very quick and efficient, without overhead from the Media Manager.
One not. Some iTunes are DRM protected, and will not play on the BB.

  • I need help with my Blackberry Torch 9800 media card....

I've had my Blackberry Torch 9800 for almost a year now and I haven't faced a problem like this one before, One day, Out of nowhere, My blackberry started acting up, the lock button wouldn't work, the touch screen and keypad wouldn't work, I wasn't able to access anything. Then the batteries drained out all of a sudden, so I went home and charged it and I thought that there was something wrong with the battery, but then when it turned on again, it had erased all my media! All my photos, videos and music, and every time I finish charging my phone a prompt would pop up and say that my media card isn't formatted! So I wanted to know if there's anyway to fix this?! The bigger problem is that the rest of my data was on my laptop and it's hard disk crashed.....So now I have nowhere to go to to retrieve my files Is there any solution to this? It's really doing my head in! Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
While rare, spontaneous wiping and rebooting do happen on BBs. You, sadly, are the very unlucky one to also have your backups on your laptop wiped out by it's failure. Very bad luck indeed...hopefully you were backing up your laptop somewhere.
As with all restores, there must be a source...your BB will never be that source as it has no "deleted items" nor "recycle bin" from which to do so. Rather, an external backup source is required. Given your laptop situation, the only other source I can think of is if you had activated the FREE (with a proper BIS plan) BB Protect, and had been backing up your data "to the cloud"...if so, then that will be an available source for restore.
Sadly, if you have no source from which to restore, then that's the end of that hope...
In any event -- first, we need to make sure that you BB is actually OK...and that will require some work on your part. Here's what I recommend...
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • When I try to import pictures from media card to iPhoto, I'm getting the error 'The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format.'  The file is a jpeg and I've never had this problem before.

When I try to import pictures from media card to iPhoto, I'm getting the error 'The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format.'  The file is a jpeg and I've never had this problem before.

    What version of iPhoto?
What colour profile is the shot?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

  • Formatting Media Card

I am trying to use a Media card I used in my last (non-Blackberry) phone.  The phone shows that the card has been inserted, but says "Media Card cannot be read.  Verify that the memory card is formatted."  I followed the instructions on KB10527, but I never get the option to format the card under Option/Media Card.  I followed the advice I found in this forum, to take out the battery and retry, but it still did not work.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi and welcome....
Depending on your OS, you may have a card that is larger than what your Blackberry Handheld OS can support.
You can try to format your new card on a PC using FAT and then install the card. This will work in some situations.
To understand the specifications, 4.2 OS will not support 8gb cards but they will work sometimes if you format the card in a PC. If your phone has the new 4.5 OS (or Bold has the 4.6), the larger cards will work...
    Link is here...
Let us know how your doing....

  • Desktop 6 software won't work with media card, but phone works with card just fine.

    Pearl 8110
    media card transcend 8G HC
using latest software update for desktop and phone.
    Vista business
Since upgrading to desktop 6 several months ago I can't upload media to my phone.  Windows does not recognize the media card as another drive.
I can take pictures, record video and voice using the phone, and send that via bluetooth to my vista computer, but not by usb.
However when trying to transfer media to my phone via usb I get an error message says I need to turn on mass storage mode (yes it's always on) but the error message just keeps repeating when I try to transfer anything to the media card via usb.  Can't transfer via bluetooth windows says I need some type of software that I can't find.
I uninstalled version 6 and reloaded the last working version 5 and the roxio media manager and that didn't work either.
I see this as being a blackberry software problem, uless someone has another idea.  I've posed in other forums with no help comming.
    What do I do?

    Hi midnightvisions,
Have you tried reinserting the media card and battery?
Can you please clarify something? Are you currently able or unable to transfer these files via Bluetooth?
If you are able to, you may want to transfer these files to your PC via Bluetooth and format the media card and test again. http://bit.ly/f8fCQ8 If this does not resolve the issue or you are unable to transfer them via Bluetooth, try doing a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Software then reinstall and test again. http://bit.ly/bvuRJU

  • Media manager won't recognise media card or contents

I'm getting frustrated here... the Blackberry used with the old Roxio PC software work fine. The laptop has been rebuilt, and the new BB Media manager does not want to recognise the photos I have stored on the Media card. I can upload them individually (there are around 300 of them) to Facebook or similar, I can bluetooth them individually to my Apple. But can not get them off or access them on mass. The Apple PC says "Unable to locate media card". The Windows PC says the media card is encrypted. I want these pics, what am I doing wrong?
I also remember when I had the first BB that I could access all the files as if the BB and media card were HDDs - now, despite loading the USB drivers that will not work.
Can anyone help please - apologies if this is a fixed problem already... I have searched the boards but nothing is coming up that answers the problem.
    Thanks
    Adam

These are files from an SD card camera so have no natural reel numbe
Well, if you use Log and Transfer then FCP will assign it one. I use L&T for P2 and for the footage from my Canon DSLR, and FCP assigns it the name of the folder that I offloaded the SD card onto. Which is why I give the folders unique names...tape names.
Maybe FCP won't recompress properly as you aren't using an editing codec to begin with. "I have some h264 .mp4 files that I want to recompress into motion jpeg files for offline editing on my Macbook Pro." H.264 isn't designed for editing, so it might not work right. First convert to ProRes 422, then media manage smaller.

  • Please help!!!!!! BB 8310 Sandisk SDHC 4GB Media Card Formatting Error

Please help.  I bought a Sandisk SDHC 4GB Memory Card and I keep getting this message after I choose format.
"Media card cannot be read.  Verify that the menory card is formatted".
I updated the software in my 8310 from 4.2 to 4.5, having been told that was the problem.  I've taken the battery and the memory card out of the phone for several minutes and reinstalled just to get the same error message.  Why is is so difficult to get this thing to work?  Are there settings that need to be change or is there a way of doing this through desktop manager?  I'm reading that you can format the card on your computer, I have no clue how to do that and especially with a PC with Vista.
Is it easier to return the memory card and buy one that is formatted?  Please help, I've wasted the better part of a weekend with this already.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The message says the Blackberry can sense a media card but cannot read the card.
Irwinll is correct that returning it is the easiest, but a card reader will be useful to you.
They are about $10.00 and well worth the price.

I have installed a media card in my device.  I have changed the default storage of new pictures to the card.  I would like to move the other images from device memory to the media card, but Desktop Manager will not recognize the media card is installed.  The media card does contain images, and I have successfully emailed attachments.  How can I get Desktop Manager to recognize the media card?
