Media Cashe Files & Media Chase Database?

I'm running:
CS4 Production Premium
Vista x64
8Gig RAM
Dell T4300 Workstation
DuoCore 2.6Mhz
1T System 7200rpm SATA HD
4 - 7200rpm SATA HDs dedicated to Video Projects (2- 1.5T & 2- 500Gig)
I started a new project Monday, captured 6 hours of video (3 cameras, 2 hours each of a Musical Performance).   As I was working yesterday, I noticed when I rendered, the 'render progress bar' would move (showing the progress), then pause for several seconds, move some more, then pause again, as if the renders were being written from RAM onto the HD.   "Normally", I see the render bar progress consistently, sometime slower than other times if the clips being rendered have filters, effects, etc., but I've never seen the progress bar simply pause before.
Because I had (a couple weeks ago) changed my Media Cashe Files to "store next to originals when possible", I was thinking this may be the cause.  I've changed that back to the default (unchecked the box) but the condition still exist.   The "Media Cashe Database" is set to: "user\....\Adobe\Common".   As far as I remember, I've never messed with that before.   I also noticed the location for the "Scratch Disk" is listed in "user\....\Adobe\After Effects CS4".     Why would a PremierePro project have the "Scratch Disk" set under the AfterEffects folder?  (I changed this to "Same As Project".
What is the "best" option for the two Project Preference settings for:
1) Media Cashe Files
2) Media Cashe Database
TIA,
jd

No, you'd have to delete them. That's one benefit of storing the media cache files next to the originals, in that you can simply purge the entire directory of files when you're done with it. Splitting them up creates a bit of a file management issue, since Premiere really doesn't have a good way to selectively eliminate generated preview files. The Project Manager works to an extent, but it will still leave the originals behind. So as long as you set things up at the beginning of a project correctly, it'll make finishing and archiving the project a little easier. The good news is that if you delete a cached file that another project needs, it will be recreated automatically. Rendered previews would have to be manually recreated, however.

  • Two Media Cashe Files

    Hope I have the correct Forum.
    I have read some about the build up of Media Cashe Files and the memory they take up, but my concern is I have two, that's 2, MCF's on my computer. Not sure if this is right?
    One is under Desk top: App Data / Roaming /Adobe /Common / Media Cashe Files.
    Another is under My Computer: Local Disk C: / Users / My name / App Data / Roaming /Adobe /Common / Media Cashe Files.
    I was wondering if I could delete one and save some memory with no ill effects to my CS4 projects?
    And/or can I empty them out without harming my projects in CS4?
    I looked to see what they were made up of and it was files I am using.
    They are using 17.5 GB.
    Thanks Jim

    You should have a Media Cache Files folder and also a Media Cache Database folder.  The Media Cache Files folder is the one that will get large since it holds all your PEK and CFA files.  The Media Cache Database folder will just be named "Media Cache" in Windows Explorer.
    You can specify the location of the two folders in Premiere's Preferences.  Go to Preferences and down to "Media".  There you can change the locations of both.  I don't like having them on the C: drive (which is the default) because I usually keep my C: drives small, just using them for the OS and some programs.
    You can delete the files and next time you open the project it will create new ones in the new location.

  • .MTS Files - Media Pending Problem

    I working a project where my .MTS files won't read in Premier Pro CC.
    My other cameras work fine, but these don't.
    When I bring the same files into Prelude CC, they work and play just fine.
    Do I have a setting wrong? Thanks!

    How do I empty Media Cash?
    Edit > Preferences > Media
    Under 'Media Cache Database' hit 'Clean'.
    Exit Premiere.
    Then, navigate to the location specified under 'Media Cache Files',
    open the folder, select all and delete.
    The Media Cache Files and Database will automatically re-generate
    when you re-open your Project... allow plenty of time for it to finish.

  • Why is this massive media cache file on my C drive?

    Running Adobe CS5 (NOT 6) on a Windows 7 PC.
    I thought I had made sure that everything was on my D or E drives since my C drive is an SSD and I don't want anything but the basics on it.
    Well, I have nearly 4GB of Media Cache eating up SSD space and no way to know if I can delete it, how to delete it, how to move that directory, etc.
    Whenever I start a project I have my source files on my E drive and I list my D drive as my scratch drive.
    Here is a screenshot showing the exact location of this huge Media Cashe folder.
    Gents, I'd greatly appreciate some assistance. My SSD is being eaten alive.
    Can this stuff be deleted? If so, how? What exactly IS that stuff and why is it on the C drive?

    Hi msp1518,
    Thanks for the posting adobe forums,
    These are the files for conforming audio, generating peak files for audio.
    Yes, you can delete these files once you have completed the project in premiere pro.
    Just, close the premiere pro : Just delete the files inside the Media cache files and Media Cache folder.

  • Media Cache Files? Do I need them?

    I was checking what's taking place of my hard drive and found about 22 GB of hard disk space occupied from this folder
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files
    In this Media Cache Files folder there were 459 files of type .cfa and .pek files. 13 of the .cfa  files were about 1.6 GB size each
    What are these files for and do I need to keep them?

    Read about 'em:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSa41b87baf39dd9b0-4a7aee25125bce32690-80 00.html
    Bottom line, if you clean the media cache using one of the apps (Encore or Premiere for example) and the source files are still on line, it won't delete them.  You can manually delete those pek and cfa, and if you open a project with those files, it will recreate them.
    Note that Encore help only says:
    Clean Database . Frees up additional disc space by removing old files in the media cache database shared by Adobe audio and video applications. The database tracks media accelerator files that improve performance and speed. For example, if Adobe Premiere Pro creates a conformed audio file, and you import media with that audio into Encore, Encore uses the file from Adobe Premiere Pro instead of creating a new conformed file. The media cache database informs Encore of the conformed file’s location.

  • Media cache files do I check the save media box

    I am trying to optimize my system and under the preferences under media it is set to the default on the C: drive.  Here is my setup I have a 1TB C:\ for OS and programs and four 1TB drives setup Raid 5 which is my D:\ drive and 24GB of Ram.  If I understand correctly I should set my Media cache files and Media cache Database to the D:\ drive?  If I check Save media files next to originals dose this do the same thing?  Also with 24GB of ram what and where should I set my pagefile to?

    Your raid is nearly three times faster than your boot disk, so I would put the media cache files next to your projects on the raid. With 24 GB memory, the location of the pagefile is not really important, since it will hardly be used, due to the good memory management of PR. If you use on-board IHCR, you may put the pagefile on C because the IHCR is pretty slow in comparison to a dedicated controller.

  • Media cache files: Premiere Elements 9 with SSD

    Hello you fine Adobe people.
    I apologize if this has been asked before, if so please could somebody direct me to an answer?
    I have Premiere Elements 9 on Windows 7. My issue is pretty simple: my shiny new SSD is getting full of temp files from the "C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files" location every time I work on a project.  I have set all other cache items I can see in "Preferences" to my mechanical disk, but I am alarmed to see this folder filling up with huge files on my SSD. Aside from the unneccessary reads and writes, it will be filled up in no time. It seems in Premiere Pro you can direct this folder to an external drive, but I cannot find this option in Premiere Elements.
    Please tell me there is a way to move the media cache files directory to another drive than C:\ ?
    Thank you in advance
    A Craven

    The answer is that you need Premiere Elements answers for Premiere Elements questions.
    The conformed audio files (cfa and pek) are stored in the Media Cache Files Folder. By default, that folder is found in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
    Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10 (if 10 is your version). You set the save location for the Media Cache Files Folder in Premiere Elements Editor workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks and the "Media Cache" category.
    The conformed video files (mcdb) are can be accessed via the Premiere Elements Editor workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and its Media Cache Database area. There you will find a Clean up to clear them and set limits. The actual files (which have a .mcdb file extension) can be found via the path shown in that area. This appears to be an unchangeable location.
    Preview files from rendering of Timeline content to get the best possible preview at play back of the Timeline content in the Edit area monitor are stored in the Adobe Premiere Elements Previews File Folder. By default, that folder is found in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit Libaries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10 (if 10 is your version). You set that save location for the Adobe Premiere Elements Elements Previews File Folder in Premiere Elements Editor workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks and the Video Previews category.
    Please let us know if you are now clear about Premiere Elements and how it relates to Media Cache et al.
    Please ask if any further questions on this or need clarification.

  • Media .asf files

    Can Someone pls help me with streaming media from the oracle. I cant Contact SASHA who replied so on this
    Topic: Streaming Media
    You can stream media from the oracle database via OAS 4.0.8 using regular browser (IE or NEtscape) and Microsoft Media Player.
    I have just completed such an application and it works just fine.
    Media .asf files are stored in LONG RAW (not BLOBs!) fields of the oracle table.

    Hi Patrick!
    What an irritating and badly made site! Once on it you cannot get back here by using the back button!
    Normally I would recommend the following setup, but Bloomberg is one of the very rare exceptions that I cannot see. They seem to be completely Windows-oriented. Fortunately there are other news sites that work!
    And for those:
    These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
    Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
    Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
    In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
    In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
    The world should now be your oyster! (except Bloomberg!)
    You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Time machine on external drive will not back up itunes media file on a separate external drive. Have already reformated itunes media drive,dragged itunes media backup file from time machine (old copy) and removed time machine plist and restarted.

    Two external drives, one for time machine backups and a second (daisy chained firewire) for itunes media folder . Time machine fails to backup the media file saying could not be completed, with no error specified. Steps taken already include reformating drive with media, dragging older media backup file from time machine disc to media disc, and deleting time machine plist and starting time macine preferences upon startup. Media folder is approx 200 gb, mostly ripped dvd movies.
    Any help for this??

  • Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310 - HELP

    Can not access the media card files Blackberry 8310.
     I had a battery drain problem. The unit would only last 16 hours before completely drained. Purchased a new battery with the same result. I figured that I should try a complete reset so I did a hard wipe. Once that was done and I loaded the unit back up and returned online, the battery drain problem was resolved but now I can not access the media card.
     Here are the messages:
     “A media card has been inserted that contains encrypted content which will be unaccessible by this device”
     I can see the files. I have transferred them to my PC via the SD card but I can not open them. Here are the settings:
     Media card support – ON
    Encryption Mode: - Security Password & Device
    Encrypt Media Files – YES
    Mass Storage Mode Support – OFF
     Please note – I can not change the encryption mode since it is set by policy
     Security Options – General Settings – Content Protection – Disabled
     The version of Desktop Manage I am using is 4.2.1.8. When I try to use the Media Manager to move the files, I get an error message and can’t move the file. If I access the file on the card and try to display it, I get:
     Unable to display file /media card/ pictures/ing000000xx.jpg.rem
     Here is what I have tried (from the advice on this board):
     1)     Read the files directly off the media card – No good
    2)     Create a “new” folder on the media card and move a file into it then try to read it – No good
    3)     Email the file then read it – No good
    4)     Reset Encryption mode to off then try – Can’t do it – IT Policy setting
    5)     Be sure that the password was set the same as before the wipe (setting is password & device) – Can’t do it – The Blackberry prevents me from using an old password.
     So I think I can’t read the files because I can’t replicate the encryption key. Could that be right? My problem is that I do not understand why this would be the case. It is still the same device and since it knows what the old password was (because it would prevent me from using it again), why would it not generate a key to access the files?
     All I am trying to get off the card are pictures on my 6 year old … some are priceless. Can someone help me do this? One would think that this should not be this hard but from all the postings I have found, it seems that it is. And yes, shame on me for not moving the files before I did the reset (THAT will never happen again!) but this being unrecoverable is unconscionable given how many seem to find themselves in this situation.
     Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Not sure why you couldn't see them using mass storage mode. Did you have the pics stored on your media card? Try going to media-menu-explore-media card-blackberry-pictures See what the extension is on your pics. If any have the extension such as .jpg.rem they are encrypted.

    I have a Windows Media video file on my homepage that plays automatically when you go to the website. I'd like to change my homepage. Is the code you told me about (above), is it necessary for older browsers such as ie8? I thought you were saying it was for the HTML5 tags and I wasn't sure I'd bother with it. If it helps people with ie8, I probably should add it.
    I include it (or a link to a localized copy of the file) by default now.
    To truly support the ancient browsers out there, you'd likely need something like...
    <video width="500" height="500">
        <source src="video.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
        <source src="video.ogv" type="video/ogg" />
        <source src="video.webm" type="video/webm" />
        <object width="500" height="500">
        <param name="movie" value="video.swf" />
        <embed src="video.swf" width="500" height="500"></embed>
        </object>
    </video>
    I don't bother with a Flash fall back for old browsers though. I just put in text letting the viewer know they're behind the times pretty severely, like...
    <video width="500" height="500">
        <source src="video.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
        <source src="video.ogv" type="video/ogg" />
        <source src="video.webm" type="video/webm" />
        <p>Your browser is horribly, helplessly and hilariously outdated. Visit <a href="firefox.com" target="_blank">www.firefox.com</a> to download something better, more secure, modern, worthwhile, etc, etc...</p>
    </video>
    For junky old browsers that can't see any HTML5 (which the <video> and <audio> tags are), they get a text message to get something better and a link to go there.

    Hi Memalyn
    Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
    My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
    If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
    Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
    Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

  • "Error loading media. File Could not be played"  when trying to view streaming media on only some sites.  How to fix?

    Hi!
    I've been having a problem trying to view streaming media, but it only happens on some sites.  It's similar to a problem I have on my Windows PC, that's related to Adobe Flash, but since I'm very new to using my iPad Mini, I don't even know if Apple devices have Flash...do they?
    Anyway, when I go to a site that's plagued by this issue, I tap the 'Play' arrow on my screen & the circle spins like it's gonna play, but then the screen turns black & this error message appears:
                                                  "Error loading media. File Could not be played"  followed by a triangle with an exclamation point !
    I read several articles online & the solutions ran from updating firmware in their router, (mine is brand new...installed last Thursday), to disabling ad-block programs in their browsers...(I don't have any enabled), and the last one was making changes to the DNS...(I know it means 'domain name server', but I don't have the foggiest idea how to make changes to it!
    Anyway, that's my problem.  I hope that someone out there knows what I can do to fix it!
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I would assume an issue with the HTML5 media player.
    If those aren't working on Windows then it is possible that the proper codecs aren't installed.
    You can try to disable the HTML5 media player and make Firefox use the Flash plugin.
    You can do this by setting these two prefs to false on the <b>about:config</b> page:
    *media.windows-media-foundation.enabled
    *media.directshow.enabled

  • Setup.exe fails, folder " "does not contain a valid media info file 'mediainfo.xml'"

    I'm trying to run the SQL Server R2 setup.exe, and all I get is a command window popping up briefly, then nothing.
    This actually affects all SQL Installers that I have on my machine:
    2008R2
    2012
    SSDT BI Pack for VS2012
    If I run the setup.exe from the command line, I get this:
    An error occurred during the SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup operation
    Error result: -2067529698
    Result facility code: 1220
    Result error code: 30
    For more information, review SQL Server R2 Setup Logs in your temp folder
    The contents of that log file are:

    I've checked 1000 times that the folder DOES contain a mediainfo.xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <MediaInfo>
    <Properties>
    <Property Id="MediaLayout" Value="Full" />
    </Properties>
    </MediaInfo>
    I've seen a few suggestions elsewhere in search results, but nothing has worked so far.
    I've previously run the 2008R2 installer and the 2012 installer without problems, so I'm not sure what has changed, or how to get round it.
    I'm running on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1, 64 bit with up-to-date Windows Updates.
    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    In addition to Alberto’s suggestion:
    Validate the setup media is not corrupt.

    Install .net framework 3.5 and 4.0. Repair them, if already installed.
