Media Center/Catalog/Get It Now fixed?

In the "Error Cannot retrieve catalog..." thread, MikeS1_VZW wrote that this has been fixed.  I sent him a PM a few days ago asking about this because our local corporate Verizon store didn't know anything about it (no response as yet).  Actually, had there been a technician there (as I thought there always was), that might have helped, but they seemed to be short-handed on technicians.
So, if this is in fact fixed, would someone mind publishing here the steps that your Corporate stores need to know so that I can bring them with me when I go in case there isn't a technician available again.  Or does a technician have to be involved?
Thanks.
RobinCB

Hi Robin:
I didn't get your PM, but I replied with this response on the other thread to help talk to the representatives at the store.
I’m very sorry if some stores were unable to help with restoring the Get It Now access.  This is a very new process, and hasn’t been done before.  That being said, there is a specific file path to instructions on how to do this. I cannot post the steps themselves because they are confidential, but I can describe how to view them. Make sure this is being done by a technician in the store or someone who is able to flash phones.  This must be done in a Corporate Store.
Here’s the file path:
Infomanager> Products/Svcs> Get It Now>MediaCenter(Formerly Get It Now)> In the processes section click “Restoring Access to the Media Store.”  Once here, under option 3, choose Instructions for Recovery. This will open up a PDF file with screenshots and instructions.
Additional path: Type “Restoring Access to the Media Store” in the Infomanager search box. It’s the first article result. Once here, under option 3, choose Instructions for Recovery. This will open up a PDF file with screenshots and instructions.
Note: In the Restoring Access to the Media Store article there is a hyperlink (like a hyperlink to the instructions) at the top that says "certain Brew devices" that will show the list of devices that this will work on.  It's a ton of phones listed within the past ~5 years, but if your phone is not listed, this will not work.

  • No compatability with older printer hardware/software and no windows media center

What can I say except that Microsoft is the only company that releases an inferior product after years of having a great product. Windows 8.1 and 8 would be fine if it were compatible with old hardware i.e. printers and had Windows Media Center. This is
now a very bare bones product. I certainly won't be paying the $129 price tag for Windows Pro 8.1 pack, just to get media center - not when there's so many free alternatives around for that. In future, don't purchase a photo quality printer that costs a fortune.
Buy a nasty cheap one with inexpensive cartridges, as eventually you won't be able to install the older software for your far superior printer i.e. Epson stylus photo 1270.  Sounds like a collusion with both Microsoft and Printer manufacturers to get
folk purchasing hardware they don't want or need, while they're older hardware works just fine - it's the new operating systems that don't. No thank you.

    Hi,
Please understand that Microsoft's partners have shared clear concerns over the costs associated with codec licensing for traditional media playback, especially as Windows 8 enables an unprecedented variety of form factors. Windows has addressed these concerns
in the past by limiting availability of these experiences to specialized “media” or “premium” editions.
That's why the Media center is separated for additional cost.
For the compatibility thing about older device, you can use the compatible mode to install the related driver on Windows 8 and 8.1 to get it work.

  • Windows Media Center Crashes

    Hi!
I tried to connect my Xbox 360 with my PC through Windows Media Center Extender. WMC asks for a setup key given by the Xbox. I entered the key and when i clicked on "Continue" button WMC crashed. This happened every time I tried. I also tried in
Clean Boot mode, but the program chrashed just the same as in normal mode. I need help, because I have no idea why is this happening.

    Remove the existing computer connection
To fix this problem, remove the existing computer connection. Here's how:
On your console, go to the Settings and then System.
    Select Computers.
    Select Windows Media Center.
    Select Disconnect.
Go back to Xbox Home. Select Apps and then My Apps.
    Select Windows Media Center.
You should now see a setup key:
Set up Windows Media Center on Windows 7 and Xbox 360

I'm not talking about refreshing your PC, let's assume I reformat the entire hard drive.

  • When I click on a photo, I now get Windows Media Center and can't get my photos. Can I get rid of this?

I used to be able to click a photo and have it open. Now I have this massive page of "stuff" titled Windows Media Center. Can I get rid of this or find a way around it to view pix?

Type '''about:preferences#applications'''<enter> in the address bar.
Change that file type to the program you want to use.

  • I purchased Windows 8 Prow/Media Center, now I can't get it to download

I purchased Windows 8 Pro and the Media Center pack and installed them on a computer which was recently stolen. Upon replacing the laptop with a similar machine I am unable to download Windows 8. I can connect to the site and the download begins,
but it estimates more than 12 hours for the download. The few times I've tried to wait it out, something
always happens to cause the download to fail. Other programs I have downloaded to replace the stolen ones have downloaded very quickly, under an hour for an above 1GB program, but Windows 8 is not hardly downloading at all. The new machine came preinstalled
with Windows 8.1, but won't upgrade to Pro w/Media Center. Am I going to have to install Windows 7 and then try upgrading again, or should I be able to reinstall the OS from the website even though the version being downloaded is Windows 8 and the current
    OS is Windows 8.1?

Thanks for your quick response, but I will not be purchasing
    anymore
(This is totally absurd, you guys can't even program your website to work right!)
    Microsoft

that I don't and have never had need for and consequently new machines in order to use their computers. I haven't programmed for years, but I'm going to go to
    Linux anddliub
(why does this write backwards? That was supposed to be 'build') my own software. Terrible inconvenience, but maybe I can get a movement started!

  • I Finally figured how to get media center to install on my PC!!

I used to get a blue screen error everytime I tried to install it and got no fix from phone tech support. I then searched the forums and found nothing. At some point I realized I had not tried all of the compatibility settings included in XP home. I then went on to find out that if I disabled advanced text services and ran it in compatibility mode for win 98/ME that it ran perfectly and have had no problems since. :D Just figured I'd let the world know since I had to figure it out on my own. Good Luck!

    Hi, my first post here..
Im having a problem like that, i have the geforce FX 5600 from msi 128 mb when i try to install media center deluxe II on my computer it reboots automatically before getting into the instalation wizard.
im trying the compatibility thing , but i dont know if that will work
I want to input my playstation 2 to the video card so i can play in the monitor and hear it on the surround system.
If anyone knows another way of plugging my playstation 2 on the computer without having to install media center please let me know. I cant figure out how to see the input image on the monitor and stuff without the software...  X(
How do you change the advanced text thing??? i couldn´t find it
    well bye and thanx
    I edit now:
I changed that.. the wizard ran fine, but i got an error in the middle of the instalation... now i can´t install or uninstall, because the program tells me if i want to completely remove it when í´ve already done that (in theory). so i go to the settings in windows to uninstall the program... and the computer reboots automatically every time, and then the same, i cant really uninstall or try to uninstall again.
The card is expensive, its hard to find and hard to buy in a place like mexico city, i cant get support over here because they just dont know what the hell happens.
i want support, and i want good support, and i want now... i payed for the product, and i want it to work as MSI tells me it will work.
So im taking to the admins here or whoever is in charge of the support in these forums, dont get me wrong, im not being a pain... im asking for what i was promised, and my time is expensive, as your cards are.
    Service please.

  • Cute - no media center in 8.1 eval - what do i do now? i paid for it already

cute, i bought win ver 8 and media center from ms and expensive expansion cards to see hdmi
ms knows what I bought from them and know I may be interested in ver 8.1 and send me offer to try ver 8.1 eval,
(they didn't mention anything about media center not working)
so I installed it and now I cant see anything about media center-even though i bought it
    I look around I see:
    1. I can install media center from store, I go to ms store and see tons of media centers but nothing from ms
    2. I need 8.1 pro
    3. I can upgrade to 8.1 pro free..., no links to do so...
It would be nice to know how to get media center running or back to ver 8 with media center working-I like it a lot.
I have been using ms since 80's, believing they will get things straight some day, I am 57 now and I hope its soon
    little help please.

    Hi,
Did you mean you got Windows 8.1 from Windows store for free?
If so, after you finish installing this new version of Windows, we may need to add Media package by following these steps:
Control panel -> Programs and features -> Turn features on and off -> Check on the Media center item to reinstall it.
    Hope these could be helpful.

  • Trouble getting Xbox 360 talking to Media Center PC

Trying to connect Xbox 360 with Media Center PC using Wireless-N products from Linksys.
    Router is WRT300N.
So now I have tried the following setups.
    1. 360 wired directly to router and PC connecting wireless with Wireless-N USB adapter - Doesnt work
    2. 360 connected with wireless-g bridge to router connected to PC directly - works but performance not great
    3. 360 connected with wireless-g bridge to router and PC connected to router via wireless-g bridge - works but performance not great (but better since router is sitting in the hallway halfway between each room.
    4. 360 directly connected to router and PC directly connected to router - works great, but of course cable just laying on the floor (not acceptable).
So the problem is the Wireless-N USB adapter. Anyone have any clue what the cause could be. What kind of configuration would stop this from working.
What I want is the 360 plugged directly into router and PC connecting via Wireless-N to the router.  Cant do the opposite because no Wireless-N bridges.

Nope the only Wireless USB adapter that works with the 360 is the one MS makes and it is A/B/G. No one makes a Wireless-N bridge. So need 360 to plug ethernet cable right into the back of the WRT300N and PC connect to WRT300N with a Wireless-N card.
Both the 360 and the PC can see the WRT300N when they are connected the way I want. The problem is the 360 cant see the Media Center PC when setup that way.
I just dont get it. I swap out the Wireless-N USB adapter for a Wireless-G bridge and things work.

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner.   You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.
QAM tuners to record local channels only
This requires Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
SiliconDust HDHomeRun (info on a sale)
CableCard tuner to record local and cable channels
This requires Windows 7 + one CableCard from Verizon for $3.99/mo
ATI TV Wonder Digital PC CableCard Tuner (records one channel at a time) -- $200-$250 on ebay
Ceton MOCUR tuner (records four channels at a time) -- coming in early 2010 for $400-$600
Make sure your computer has Windows 7 Home Premium (or better) installed.   That's necessary to support CableCard tuners.

thanks.  your answer was correct, clearer.  I have another question, maybe you can answer.  I just purchase my ipad2 2 days ago.  yesterday, there was a sound.  today there is no sound.  there is a sound only in movies and you tube and music.  but no sound on all apps and keyboards.  I look it up and seems like ther are few that have this problem.  I called walmart coz I bought it there and they told me that they have not heard that before but if I can't fix it, just return it and exchange it with anew one since I have 14 days to do that.  I tried rebooting it and still won't work.  Should I just restore it?

  • Can't get Xbox 360 Media Center Extender to work

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.  This is a retail copy.  I had previously set up Windows Media Center and successfully set up my Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender.
After a long hiatus of using Windows Media Center, I went to watch a movie in my media library through my Xbox 360.  It would appear to initially connect and then show the Windows Media Center loading screen and say "Contacting..."  After about 30 seconds, it would display an error asking me to make sure my Windows Media Center PC is turned on (it is).  I ran the Windows Media Center network test in the Xbox 360 and it tested fine.
I attempted to delete the Media Center Extender in WMC and set it up again, but it always fails with an error "An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this Extender" at the part where it says "Configuring your Extender".
I looked in the Event Viewer under the Media Center section and found event ID 543:

How do I get my music from Media Center to my iphone 4s. Itunes 10.5 won't import the MC music library, and MC won't recognize and synch to the iphone plugged into the USB port so I can't load playlists from MC to my iphone. Itunes help doesn't work.

Hello and welcome to the support community
As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

  • MEDIA CENTER PC m7250n GETS "RESTRICTED CONTENT" MESSAGE ON SOME TV STATIONS

On some channels, not porn or adult stations, I get the message "Restricted Content  Restrictions set by the broadcaster and/or originator of the content prohibit playback of the program on this computer", when I just try to play regular TV through my PC.  The screen goes blue blank with just this message showing.  Sometimes the sound is let through on some stations, but no picture.  There appears to be no rhyme or reason as to what station or content: some are news channels, sometimes it kicks in during a commercial.  Some days it hits a channel, 2 days later that channel plays.  I spent 2 1/2 hrs. on the line with India the other day, and the result was worse than the original issue, so we just went to system restore.  I'm by far not a computer genius, but I'm not exactly an idiot either.  But I sure would appreciate someone's help.  Many thanks.

    Hi pkak5,
My  first thought is that this sounds like a signal strength issue. I get weird errors like this on my Media Center that has the weakest antenna in my house. When I hook up a better antenna or even adjust the antenna, it can improve the TV signal and keep these errors from occuring.
Have you tried adjusting your TV antenna, or a different antenna?
