Media Center Volume

Using the music player, my new Bose in ear buds have very limited volume.  There is no adjustment anywhere that I can see to correct this.  Can someone please help?

Bose earbuds and others like them tend to have a higher impedance than regular cheap-o earbuds. The result is better sound, but lower volumes. The surest test for this is to max out the volume on the BB and test the Bose 'buds against the set that came with the device. If the Bose are quieter, impedance is probably why. You'll probably get similar results with other portables as well.
It's an extra expense, but you may want to look at a mini headphone amplifier. They're usually about the size of the battery that powers them. A few companies make them now that high-quality earbuds from companies like Bose and Shure are becoming more popular.

  • Windows 8 Pro volume license version does not have "Add Features" therefore cannot install media center.

As the title describes, Windows 8 Pro installed from the Volume License ISO does not have the Add Features wizard, and as such it appears to be impossible to install the Windows Media Pack.
I've consulted with Live Chat support who cannot provide an answer to this, they simply said it should be done through "Add Features" which does not exist.
A similar thread was answered by saying install from a Retail disc and upgrade. However this is hardly a solution, paying for an additional Windows license when you already have a volume license.
Can anyone, preferably MSFT, provide a proper answer on how Windows Media Center can be install on Windows 8 Pro which is volume licensed. If it can't be done can some reason or justification be given as to why it can't be done.
Please see previous thread here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itproinstall/thread/d63b46e5-c542-4dbe-be41-c46cda440723

I would like to pile on here and say "ditto" to all of the above. you have a licensed product and they don't even support the MSFT version of a DVD player. Nah, no one EVER has to play a older technology in corporate America due to training or presentation
(A funny clip of a movie before a ppt)? Nah.
But, I'd like to add a warning to MSFT senior management.  I know you want to force everyone to use YOUR cloud just like apple did to theirs.  Wont' work.  Some of us refuse to sign onto a web site and let you track all of our moves... some
distrust the cloud (Target anyone?) etc etc.  All good points, now for the out of the park.  The Harvard Business Review some years ago did a study on long term profitability of a company (you have to have a profit to stay in business).  The
most highly correlated factor: Customer Sat.  Sorry, but I don't see customer sat in all of these entries.
IF you made your product easier to use and NOT have to have a IT support person to move from a small workgroup to a server configuration (and PS, what in the heck to you get from a workgroup?  File Replication, Remote access to outlook files as one
does via exchange?  Really, every computer is in a workgoup any more, so there is ZERO value add in a workgroup on a MSFDT platform, however there is great value, even with a couple of users, in an Exchange/Windows Server Platform -- so why so you make
it so damned hard to implement one... Difficult for one to implement in an SMB environment (so lets just kill SBS) but growth from small business is where your growth is... just like IBM did before you, MSFT only appears to be listening to Fortune 500 it execs,
but I really digressed)  This is just one more pain in the butt to use MSFT in the small environment.  So what is the rational business decision?  Yes one can pick MSFT but with Zero value add in the workgroup, why not them other guys (who may
be apple, or android or even some Linux platforms)
SO you want to continue to mil the cash cow, listen to your forums.
One more note on the STORE.  Lets say you do pick a competitive product in the windows store.  Have them been verified they don't contain malware like MSFT products?  I believe the answer here is "NO"  So this adds another layer of complexity
and security risk on the corporate problem of "How do I play a DVD on my laptop"  I am sure none of you has ever played a movie on your laptop flying for business?
So, MSFT management, let me paraphrase the posts above:  "WHY don't you support our business needs"
And remember, people buy to have their needs met.....  (IBM Planned Sales Call)
If you don't meet small business needs, someone will... and that too is fraught with risk.
(For example of how to make computers easy to use in SMB I reference SBS, the Systems Management Interface tool in IBM Unix, or best of all, the AS/400.... something even Ellison couldn't kill, though he tried.

  • Media Center vs. Front Row

I hate to say, I just watched the keynote, and Steve made a really thoughtless comment that got the crowd cheering.
He had a comparison of the iMac remote, and 2 different Windows XP Media Center remotes from HP and Gateway. He pointed out that the MC remotes had around 50 buttons, and the iMac remote had 6. This is an absurd comparison.
The Media Center remotes allow you to pause, play, record, rewind, and fastforward TV. They also have, EQ controls, volume, audio switching, video input, and many other useful controls.
There's no surround sound with an iMac. There's no hi-def inputs with an iMac. There's just volume, play, rewind, fastforward. (with the remote).
And yes, I own a Media Center PC, and such a copy Front Row is. He's bragging about it like it's new technology, when the Media Center has been around for 4 years or so. He even copied the in-menu interface (once you choose music or video, etc.).
    Vikram

Vikram's point was that Media Center has been out first for 4 years and Apple just NOW came out with it. And copied parts of it besides. By the way, other things, like Widgets, has been out for PC's a while before they were included in Tiger. Apple is not as great as they, and Steve Jobs, think they are. And everything Apple is still overpriced compared to PC's.

  • Premiere Elements cause problems with Windows Media Center while streaming to TV.

I was having the following problem:
The audio from the streaming process of a recorded TV show on my HP computer to the remote receivers, a Sony Blu-ray player and/or a Sony Streaming Player, results in the loss of audio signal at exactly 30 seconds from the beginning on either devices. The video continues on as normal.
A user on the Windows 7 forum had the following possible cause and solution.  His response was as follows:
I "solved" my issue, at least partially. Turns out for me a codec installed by Adobe Premiere Elements for audio (Main Concept) was causing mfpmp.exe to fail (you should see it getting an appcrash in the event log two or three times as soon as you start playing the media remotely.) This program is used by microsoft for DRM. I went through and one by one remained the various attached (non-microsoft) modules until i found the one that caused the appcrash. I haven't fully figured out if Elements is now negatively effected, but that's for a different forum.
I tried the quick fix by un-installing Adobe Premiere Elements.  The uninstall solved my problem with Windows Media Center, but I want to re-install the software but I do not want to recreate the problem with Windows Media Center.
Is there another solution for this problem?

I reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and the above mention problem reoccured.  With a little detective work I was able to determine that the file causing my problem was "mc_dec_dd_ds.ax".  I am not sure what this does to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 since I removed (renamed) the offending file.  A strange side affect, renaming the file did cause an increase volume. Strange.

  • Low DVD and Media Center TV Vol

I am having a volume problem with DVD movies and Media Center, particularly TV. Sound quality and volume in other applications is great, but if I try to watch TV or a DVD at the same settings I can barely hear the audio.
I have a new Dell XPS 400, running Windows XP Media Center 2005. I have an Audigy 2 ZS soundcard and Dell 5250 5. surround speakers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i think the first thing you should do is update your TV tuner drivers...

  • IMac as Media Center

    Good evening,
I've got a late model MacBook Pro and an 800mhz PowerBook at present. The PowerBook hosts my iTunes library, ipods (got a few), and SlimServer for my SqueezeBox (slimdevices.com). I'm rather peeved that Leopard will not support the PowerBook as Time Machine and screen sharing seemed like a brilliant way to keep that little bugger alive. Doubly annoyed as I replaced the hard drive and had to buy Tiger (lost originals) to bring it back on line a few months ago.
Anyway, I just ordered a 42" LCD TV and was thinking a Mac Mini would be a great replacement for the PowerBook as a media center for my downloaded videos, etc. But, by the time I buy a Mini, drop a bigger hard drive in, buy a wireless keyboard and mouse, I've spent as much as I would on a 17" refurb imac.
What is the village consensus on using the imac as a media center? What challenges are expected (versus a Mini)?
    Any thoughts are appreciated.
    -P.

    Hello,
I would just use the program to enable Windows to read the OS X partition. Get a good Anti-Virus and FireWall installed for Windows. And, keep it updated (as well as keeping Windows updated).
The potential problem you mention would be true of any external drive if the Windows installation was able to read / write it. So, it really makes no difference there.
The only file system that both OS X and Windows can read and write to is FAT32. And OS X's PKG files (downloaded programs, installed programs, and system updates) cannot be written to a FAT32 volume. So, you would still prefer to have that external drive formatted as a Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) volume.
So, I'd just go with a program like MacDrive:
    http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive6/
It has a trial version (limited by number of days it will work) that you can use to see if you like it. I've used it before, and it worked great.
    I hope this helps.

  • Lights wont stay on the media center thing

i just got this computer its a toshiba satellite A665-S5170 and the lights on media center thing were always on so was the light about the touch pad, but i wanted to see what eco button did so i clicked. it turns out it turned off all the lights except the power button and now i cant seem to turn those lights back on.
i click on the volume buttons and it does turn on for a few seconds but then turns off again. i want to know how to turn them back on so they stay lighten up the whole time since i liked it that?

I always leave the lights off to save battery power.
I think all you have to do is hit the Illumination ON/OFF button
(arrow) on the media control buttons located on the system
control panel above the keyboard and it will turn the lights back
on. It was one of the first things I turned off when I got the
machine. It's always plugged in anyway.
Main thing is not to panic when something unexpected happens.
There are many reversable settings on these machines that
require little more than a check mark in a box and a mouse
click. System restore is not the first thing I would reach for.
The manuals for these systems are available on the start
menu under My Toshiba> User's Guide and also under the
product support link at the top of the page. You might even
be able to get a faster and simpler solution to a problem on
the forum or searching the web.

  • Media Center Deluxe II w/Tv@nywhere Master (settings not saving)

    Hi!
I have a MSI FX5600 VTDR128 and a Tv@nywhere Master running on Win XP (original version - only applied a USB 2.0 patch). Everything works great after I installed all drivers, software, and updates.
However, I have one anoying problem. When I use Media Center Deluxe II (MCD2) and choose to watch TV, the TV capture device is set by default to the nVidia WDM driver NOT my Conexant device. So, I change the setting in Setup and go through the settings. Then viola! I have beautiful TV on PC in MCD2. But when I close MCD2 and reopen it, my TV Capture device setting resets to the nVidia WDM capture driver.
It is annoying when I just want to hit "Power" on the remote and watch TV. Instead each time I have to change my setting to the correct Capture device.
I have begun looking at config files and registry settings, but to date, have not found a fix or work around.
Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated.
I have installed all of the patches from the MSI site, (except for the nVidia driver 44.xx version - I am running 43.xx).
    Thanks!!

Media Center for TomTom extends all-in-one TomTom navigation systems into a portable Video and MP3 Player

    dbiz,
I have no problem with making Media Center an add-on for personal versions of Windows IF MS wants to sell it at a lower price. My problem is as a Volume Licensing customer, we are paying the same yearly fee (yearly recurring income for Microsoft) as we have
in the past and are getting features taken away from us that we had in Windows 7. Both DVD/MPEG2 playback in Media Player and Media Center were included in our VL versions of both Windows 7 Pro and Windows 7 Enterprise. We are not seeing our licensing costs
go down but paying the same amount and getting less.
By all means, feel free to make Media Center and DVD/MPEG2 playback an add-on for personal versions of Windows (if you are dropping the price), but include it for your VL customers who are paying for SA and who's prices are not going down.
Businesses (or schools in my case) do not want to add 3rd party solutions to our images and don't like losing functionality we have had in the past. Even Media Center had it's place in the classroom. You could do network TV Tuners or just have a nice interface
to play back media on a connected TV or projector for the classroom.

  • No Audio from DVD's in Media Center

I have a m7250n HP Media Center and when I play DVD's in Windows Media Center I don't get any sound.  I know it's not a hardware issue because I can hear the sound from any other media (like the TV) in Media Center.  I can also hear the sound from both DVD drives if I use a different DVD player like Intervideo Win DVD.  HELP, this is rendering my Media center useless...

Did this just start happening? Did you make any changes to your computer before it occurred (such as install software or hardware)?
Are you sure there is "no sound"? If you turn the volume WAY up do you hear anything, even faint sound?
If you plug in headphones, can you hear sound in them?
You may also want to go to www.windowsupdate.com and see if there are any updates for your PC.

    Hi,
You probably need to format the new HDD - try the following.
If you're running Windows XP, see the guide on the following link.
    http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/prepare_second_hdd/prepare_second_hdd1.shtml
For Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, continue as follows.
Hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and let the drives load up.  Right click on your new HDD and select Format to start the Wizard.  Windows will assign a Volume Label so if you’re happy with this, just leave the default one.  File system is normally NTFS.  Allocation Unit Size should be left as the default value.  Select the option to perform a Quick Format if it is not already selected.  Leave any other settings as default and click Ok and Ok again to start the process.
When this has completed, your new HDD should now appear when you look under Computer.
    Regards,

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner.   You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.
QAM tuners to record local channels only
This requires Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
SiliconDust HDHomeRun (info on a sale)
CableCard tuner to record local and cable channels
This requires Windows 7 + one CableCard from Verizon for $3.99/mo
ATI TV Wonder Digital PC CableCard Tuner (records one channel at a time) -- $200-$250 on ebay
Ceton MOCUR tuner (records four channels at a time) -- coming in early 2010 for $400-$600
Make sure your computer has Windows 7 Home Premium (or better) installed.   That's necessary to support CableCard tuners.
