Media converter

We need a media converter which should convert 1000 Mbps (TP-RJ45) to 1000 Mbps SX (Multi-mode Fiber)
The length of the Fiber cable is 1 (One) Kilometer.
Fiber Cable Type: 6 Core, 62.5/125µm
Connector Type: MM SC connectors
is there any type of media converter which conntect with fiber cable with the lenghth of 1 KM and provide multi-mode, there are lot of converter which i see on net they only work in muti-mode with in the range of 550 meters. on the other hand we have a cat 6 cable.

Gigabit Ethernet over multimode fiber is supported only over limited distances. I would recommend installing single mode fiber if that's possible, and using 1000BASE-LX optics. Otherwise, 100-megabit Fast Ethernet is probably the best you can get out of that length of multimode, as ScottMac said.
If you use 1000BASE-SX short wavelength optics over 62.5µm multimode, the maximum supported link length is 220m to 275m, depending on the modal bandwidth of the fiber.
If you use 1000BASE-LX long wavelength optics over 62.5µm multimode, the maximum specified link length is 550m. And you need mode conditioning patch cables to provide an offset launch of the LX signal into the multimode fiber.
Having said that, I think it may be possible for you to push Gigabit Ethernet out to 1km over 62.5 multimode. I have read that even worst-case multimode fiber links can support LX out to 700m, and that the distance was reduced to 550m to agree with the ISO/IEC 11801 structured cabling model. So, if you don't have worst-case fiber you might be able to do this. But it really, really, really depends on knowing the exact manufacturer and product number of your fiber, in order to determine what it's capable of. Testing the fiber with an OTDR wouldn't hurt, either.
As far as equipment is concerned, your best chances to go from a copper (RJ-45) Gigabit port across your 1km of multimode fiber to an SX fiber (SC) Gigabit port on the other side, would be with two different media converters. One that converts from 1000BASE-T to 1000BASE-LX; and the other that converts from 1000BASE-LX back to 1000BASE-SX. Use mode conditioning patch cables on the LX ports, and a regular multimode patch cable on the SX port.
Transition Networks www.transition.com is another manufacturer of media converters worth checking out. I have used theirs on a number of occasions, with good results.
Hope this helps.

  • Using a  Bi-directional Media Converter in FC Pro

I have a Canopus ADVC 300  Bi-directional Media Converter.  I'm having an issue with syncing (Voice & Lips). When I look at my canvas monitor and my external monitor (my video is maybe 1 or 2 frames off to the left or the right.  I have to say most of these movies are coming from YouTube. Does that make a difference? They look in sync when I play them back in QuickTime 7 Player, (but not on the timeline)  I have my settings in FC Pro set to 29.97. In the process of trying to make sense of it all, I'll try 29.97 and 30 fps. Is there a big difference there? Also, I started out using the H.264, it didn't seem to work that well for me. Right now i'm working Apple ProRes 422 High Quality. it seems to work a little better.
    You might have better recommendations.
    Thank You!

Is the audio following the video out through the Canopus or are the speakers being fed by an audio out through the computer?
The audio should be fed through the Canopus.
What is the clip frame rate? That is what you need to know.
fwiw - As you seem to have discovered, h.264 is not an editing codec.
Why are you using ProResHQ for youtube material? It is a total waste of hard drive space and bandwidth demand for zero benefit. ProResLT would be a much better choice.

  • I have an imac 21.5" running Mavericks. I'm trying toConverting vinyl to turntable connected to a SonyDVMC-DA2 media converter which id connected to a Thunderbolt port via firewire adapter. No luck converting. Help!

I have an imac 21.5' running mavericks. Converting vinyl to digital. My turntable connects to a Sony DVMC-DA2 media converter which connects to the imac with a thunderbolt firewire adapter. When I try to import media I get a faint music sound but no files download. Help!

The DVCM-DA2 does not have a phono input, so is unable to work from a turntable (not enough gain, and no RIAA equalization, both of which are required for Vinyl)
You will need a converter that has a phono input (to the RIAA standard)

  • Media Converter with 802.1q support

    hey guys
have u ever heard of a optical to UTP media converter which supports .1q trunking, as we tried b4 but didnt work out , what we want is to have a trunk link which is via a converter (utp to fiber).
    thanx a ton in advance

    hi amit
i personally appreciate ur input, just a thought , i tried trunking between 2 cisco 2950s with a media converter in between , it didnt work out, i mean , is it a must to have a converter with trunk functionality for the links to work and have trnking , as a converter is just a passive device which connects two ports, the links come up, but no trunking, any specific config i need to make in order to achive trunking with a converter in between with no trunk features on the converter itself.
lastly can i have ur email id, just in case if i need more queries.

  • Media Converter & Catalyst 3560 giving me headaches

Physical location 1  is connected to Physical location 2 with fiberoptic cable.
Location 1 fiber is terminated at Catalyst 3560.
Location 2 fiber is terminated at a media converter, so that the fiber link should be able to transparently be connected to a gigabit ethernet by rj45 cable.
The two fiber cables at each end is the same (62.5/125) - all is multimode fiber, and the gbic in the catalyst, and the media converter are both 850 nm.
On the Catalyst gbic where the fiber is, no link.
On the media converter there is link on the rj45, but no link on the fiber.
I cant seem to get what could be the problem.
The media converter is a tp-link mc200cm, which is gigabit, as well as the gbic module in the catalyst.
At first I bought the wrong tp-link (mc100cm - wavelength wrong) - however, on that, the fiber link lights (but very quick flashes only).
Any help, pointers oir the like would be greatlty appreciated!

It would seem the two devices should be compatible; both 850nm, short-reach interfaces and the instructions for the media converter shows a single-ended configuration. In the past, others have found that some media converters only operate in matched pairs; typically meaning they are not 802.3 compliant on their fiber links.
Have you confirmed that the fiber connectors are clean and the fibers are routed to the correct ports (Tx to Rx, and Rx to Tx)?  Are the ports set on both devices for Auto speed and duplex setting?  Have you tested the fiber links to ensure they are good? If you loop the fiber cable on the 3560's GBIC from Tx to Rx, can you get link?  At the media convertor end, disconnect the fibers and connect the fibers together; does the 3560 show link? If you loop a fiber at the media converter's optical ports, does the media conv show link?
    Let us know. Thx!

  • HDV conversion for Premiere CC  Windows using Adobe Media Converter

We are trying to use HDV footage in Premiere CC on a Windows system. The HDV footage was given to us already been captured on a drive. It will play using different players. We need to convert it to a format that Windows Premiere CC can understand. When we go to convert the footage in Adobe Media Converter, it can not even read the footage to be able to convert it. The Export Settings/Source says "Media Pending"    What are we missing here? Thanks.

"Media Pending" means just that...be patient. When I import HDV clips into Premiere, I get that same message on screen, but at lower right of Premiere screen it will show a progress bar for "Indexing" of the MPEG video. Once that completes, then I can see the video. Give it a try in Premiere. HDV is definitely supported.

  • Linking Cisco SF 102-24\MGSX1 to a 100mb Media Converter

    Hello,
I just purchased a Cisco SF 102-24 unmanaged 100 series swith with a MGBSX1 mini-Gbic converter.  My goal is to connect this to a building that is connected with a Black Box LH1706A-ST media converter that has 100mb ST fiber connections.  In my testing the Black Box shows both a Fiber link and RJ45 port link at 100mb, but the MGBSX1 does not show any link lights or traffic.  So a computer connected to the Cisco switch is not able to communicate over the fiber connection.
Can the MGBSX1 be connected to a media converter that only has 10/100 ST fiber connectors?  Thank you for any helpful advice.

    Hi Joseph,
My Colleague, the very excellent David Carr wasn't aware of this,  but the 100 series switch  only support 1000Mbit/sec speeds on SFP's  not 100M/bit/sec.
So you cannot plug in our MFEFX1 into the SF102-24.  It just wont work, a MGBLX1 would, but I guess you have Multimode 62.5um or 50um  fiber in place.
We are updating the QSG for the modules with an updated compatibility list  so that this issue doesn't come up again..
    My apologies for this .
So if you want to run 100FX speeds for up to 2Kilometers, between my switch and the Black box media convertor, my suggestion is to get a second media convertor.
Again my apologies, I only found this out from the Product Manager 3 days ago.
    regards Dave

  • WS-C3750-24FS-S to media converter

    Hello.
I've recently started the "SFP to media converter" thread.
Now I'd also like to know if this variation would work:
    WS-C3750-24FS-S at one end.  It's a 24 ports 100Base-FX (MT-RJ connector) switch.
    AT-MC101XL-10 at the other end.
Over 62.5/125 multimode fiber.  Length wouldn't be longer than 700 meters.
Do you think it would work?
I've attached both the datasheet and installation guide of the media converter.
    Thank you,
    Javier F.

Shouldn't be any problem.  Just make sure to order the correct optical jumper cable to match the MT-RJ switch port to the media converter port (ST or SC).

  • Fibre Media Converter

    Hi everyone,
I need a media converter that takes in fibre connection and gives Ethernet output(gigabit).
Can you provide me the part number please?
    thanks
    sam

I can't give you an exact part number because it will depend on the type of fiber, link distance, connector type and powering voltage.  But, Omnitron Systems has the product you are requesting and the information to determine the proper part number.

  • Fiber to Copper media converter

    Hello,
As Cisco doesn't have any 10GBASE-T transceivers in its portfolio for UCS Fabric Interconnects, is there any way to connect the Fabric Interconnects to a 10GBASE-T infrastructure?? I'm thinking of any sort of a media converter or so...
    Thanks,

    Hi Dani,
This 10BASE-T standard was introduce mainly to provide high speed conectivity more cheap to servers. Many manufacturers has the 10BASE-T interface built in onboard.
There is a certain difficult to deploy fcoe in the base-t and bring a unified architecture solution.
Another issue is the power consumption, that's so much higher than any SFP fiber port.
Today, the Fabric Interconnect doesn't support 10BASE-T connection and I'm not sure whether will support in the future, maybe in the expansion module.
    Regards.
    Richard.

  • Prisma MediaCenter media converter

Can someone tell me exactly how Prisma MediaCenter 20 slot converter is deployed. Actually I am looking for a multiport media converter (Fibre to Copper) box than has a reasonably high port density. I need to connect several devices with fibre ports to a C6500 switch with only GE copper ports and don't want to use single port module converters. I saw Prisma MediaCenter 20/slot chasis in a search result and wonder whether it can be used for this purpose.

  • Media converter AIR-PWRINJ-FIB

We have AP 1240AG connected to LAN via media converter AIR-PWRINJ-FIB.
When there is link failure on the fiber side of the AIR-PWRINJ-FIB the cooper port on the media converter is always up and did not detect fiber disconnection effectively AP1240AG did not detect LAN connection failure.
Is this a normal behavior of AIR-PWRINJ-FIB?

This is normal in install Ihave seen. the issue is the ap does not communicate with the far end switch in spanning-tree. What some have done is put switches on both ends, but that might be costly. You might want to search around for a converter that might have the ability to do this...
This sounds like it can do what you are looking for:

  • Media Converter for 3550 w/gig ports

    Hey guys,
Got a question. I have a 3550 w/ 10 fiber ports and 2 copper ports. I have to upgrade IOS and am trying to find some type of media converter to fit into the fiber ports and convert it to copper ports. Both of the copper ports on the device are being utilized and I'd like to upgrade the IOS w/o disconnecting the devices attached to them.
I would think there would be some sort of card that I could plug into the slot and convert it to copper and plug my laptop directly into that.
    Thanks!
    Colin

I assume from your description of the switch it is a 3550-12G (WS-C2550-12G). This has 10 GBIC-based 1000BaseX ports and 2 10/100/1000 ports. There are 5 different types of GBIC's that can be installed in the 10 GBIC slots:
    WS-X3500-XL ---- GigaStack Stacking GBIC
    WS-G5484 ---- 1000BaseSX
    WS-G5486 ---- 1000BaseLX/LH
    WS-G5487 ---- 1000BaseZX
    WS-G5483 ---- 1000BaseT
If you want to connect devices using Copper then the 1000BaseT GBIC can be used. This only works at Gigabit Speeds though and can't negotiate down to 10 or 100Mbps (unlike the 1000BaseT SFP GBIC when installed in the 3560 & 3750).

  • SFP to media converter

    Hello.
I want to connect two endpoints through a 62.5 mm fiber.  One endpoint is a Catalyst 2960 and the other is a PLC
It has been tested to work with 2 Allied Telesis media converters (RJ-45 to 100Base-FX).  One for each endpoint.
I'd like to know if I can try to connect a GLC-GE-100FX= (SFP in the switch) at one end and the media converter at the PLC's side.
I don't have any GLC-GE-100FX= to try so I'd like to know if they would work before acquiring one of them.
    Thank you.
    Javier F.

    Hello.
It's an Allied Telesis AT-MC101XL-10 (multimode 100Base-FX) at one end and a 2960 with a GLC-GE-100FX at the other end.
The length of the link would not be longer than 700 meters over 62.5/125 multimode fiber.
I've attached both the datasheet and the installation guide of the transceiver.
I think that this should work since both ends use the 100Base-FX standard.  Is this correct?
    Thank you,
    Javier F.
