Media Encoder not using GPU in CC2014.2

I updated to CC2014.2 yesterday.
Rendering a project from Premiere Pro's Export function engaged the GPU as expected, I hear the fans spin up, renders are fast.
However, when sending to Media Encoder, project render times are astronomical, the GPU is not engaging despite CUDA being switched on in all applicable options. The difference is a few minutes vs 2 hours. No non-native plug-ins are in use.
This was not a problem a few days ago with CC2014.1. For the moment I'm stuck to exporting directly from Premiere until it's fixed. Has anyone else experienced similar bugs?
Windows 7 64
GeForce 580GTX 3GB
Driver 341.44

Hmm it seems we both broke the rule of "don't update mid project!"
Still, hopefully this will lead to a quick fix, since it will affect many professional quite badly.
Yes for me it's just no GPU rendering in Media Encoder. I've been able to get through this by using Export, which is extremely fast.
My timeline playback works fine too as does Speedgrade, so it appears this is an issue with Media Encoder alone on my machine.

    Nonsense.
Apple Compressor has been doing wmf exports for a decade. I have the Quicktime export components from Telestream and they appear as presets in Compressor. They should be available in Media Encoder or they should be importable. Adove apparently refuses to see them. Still trying to figure that out.

    Hello, Adobe?

  • Media Encoder CC not using GPU acceleration for After Effects CC raytrace comp

I created a simple scene in After Effects that's using the raytracer engine... I also have GPU enabled in the raytracer settings for After Effects.
When I render the scene in After Effects using the built-in Render Queue, it only takes 10 minutes to render the scene.
But when I export the scene to Adobe Media Encoder, it indicates it will take 13 hours to render the same scene.
So clearly After Effects is using GPU accelleration but for some reason Media Encoder is not.
I should also point out that my GeForce GTX 660 Ti card isn't officially supported and I had to manually add it into the list of supported cards in:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC\Support Files\raytracer_supported_cards.txt
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CC\cuda_supported_cards.txt
While it's not officially supported, it's weird that After Effects has no problem with it yet Adobe Media Encoder does...
I also updated After Effects to 12.1 and AME to 7.1 as well as set AME settings to use CUDA but it didn't make a difference.
    Any ideas?

    That is normal behavior.
The "headless" version of After Effects that is called to render frames for Adobe Media Encoder (or for Premiere Pro) using Dynamic Link does not use the GPU for acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer.
If you are rendering heavy compositions that require GPU processing and/or the Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing, then the recommended workflow is to render and export a losslessly encoded master file from After Effects and have Adobe Media Encoder pick that up from a watch folder to encode into your various delivery formats.

  • Media Encoder CC and GPU

Does the new Media Encoder CC automatically use GPU and CUDA encoding when available? I tried to export H.264 from After Effects CC, but I found that you have to send it to AME for this, and then I'm not 100% sure if the GPU is used? I see that the GPU is only used about 1-2% when encoding.
I have a GTX 570 card installed, so I know that GPU is available, since it's working fine in Premiere Pro CC.

  • AME takes a long time to start encoding when using GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)

Have had this issue for a while not (current update as well as at least the previous one).
I switched to using GPU Hardware Acceleration over Software Only rendering. The speed for the actual encoding on my Mac is much faster that software only rendering. However, more often than not, the encoding process seems to stick at 0% waiting to start for a long time, say anywhere from 1 minute to several minutes. Then it will eventually start.
Can't seem to find what is causing this. Doesn't seem related to any particular project, codec, output format or anything else I can see. I'd like to keep using GPU Acceleration but it's pointless if it takes 5 times as long to even start as rendering by software-only would. It doesn't even pass any elapsed time while it's hanging or waiting. Says at 0 until it starts. Like I said, once it starts, it's a much faster render than what the software would take. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Actually, I just discovered it doesn't seem to have anything to do with OpenCL. I just put the rendering back to software only and it is doing the same thing. hangs for a long time before it starts to run. Activity monitor shows it running 85-95% CPU, 17 threads and about 615 MB of memory. Activity Monitor doesn't say its not responding, it just seems kind of idle. It took almost 7 minutes for it to start rendering.
1- Running version 7.2.2.29 of Media Encoder,
    version 7.2.2 (33) of Premiere.
2- Yes, a premiere project of HD 1080 source shot with Canon 60D, output to H.264 YouTube 720, fps 23.976
not sure what you are referring to by native rendering. The rendering setting i tried now is Mercury Playback Engine Software Only if that is what you are referring to. But OpenCL gives me the same issue now.
3- H.264 YouTube 720, 23,976 - seems to happen on multiple output types
4- In Premiere, I have my project timeline window selected. Command-M, selected the output location I wanted and what output codec, selected submit to Queue. Media Encoder comes up, the project loads and I select the run icon. It preps and shows the encoding process setup in the "Encoding" window, then just sits there with no "Elapsed" time occurring until almost 5-6 minutes later, then it kicks in.

  • Urgent: constant Crash Media encoder, premiere pro CC and CC2014.

(Sorry by advance, its an Google trad)
    Hello everyone!
I meet great difficulties with Premier Pro and Media encode CC and CC2014.
When I want to wire my pending projects that I go through File> Import (or even composition After Premier) or I simply do a drag / drop in Media Encoder .... Half the time it crashes, not charging Dynamic link not or crash Premier pro ..... with CC versions like 2014 .... I have no particular error message. However I have to process the killer Dynamic link, adobe (in general: QT32 server, Adobe ipCbrocker, PProHeadless.exe) via the Windows task manager. If not impossible to reopen the software.
I also noticed that even when the software does not crash, I close the first or afx or other software will not come out of the process, there is ad infinitum in the active process.
When I still manage to import my sequences in MediaEncoder, this plant some encodings but not all .... no particular reason and not telling me why he crashed. If it does not crash, it runs in a loop on the same image and I have to stop myself encoding, which never end. Knowing that all my files are part of a series, there has exactly the same things in it in terms of editing, effects etc.. Which by the way is only melted ....
Rush are my MXF files. And I use the Dynamic Link to import my sequences between Premier Pro and afx. Although it makes me exactly the same problem that I import directly my first or I go through Dynamic Link.
    I'm on:
    Windos Seven PRo 64bit.
    I have a 3.33GHz i7 X980
Nvidia GTX480 driver 337.88 (the latest what)
    AND 16GB RAm
My cache is not full, I empty it regularly. It is a hard look at projects and never moves.
So, if anyone has the same problem or knows a solution, I'm interested.
It falls at the wrong time, I have 200 to encode videos in one month.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Media Encoder not starting from Premiere Pro

I'm having issues Exporting from Premiere Pro - I'd rather queue it through Media Encoder so I can move onto the next edit, but when I select Queue and Media Encoder opens, it doesn't do anything - simply sits there with "Not Currently Encoding" as opposed to importing the data to export.
    Help?
    Adobe Media Encoder, 6.0.2.81
Also installed other CC products Ps, Pr, Id, Lr, Ai, etc
I have run Adobe Updater but no updates available for Me.
    Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)
I am using Adobe Media Encoder through a Creative Cloud Membership subscription
Project is 6 minute film shot on Sony FS700 (AVCHD) and exports from Premiere Pro
No error message, just no action from the Application
Have not seen the problem before - most of my work is vi Canon 5D MK III, so maybe it's a Sony Codec issue? Though I have exported footage from this camera before though...
    Apple MacBook Pro, 17",
I am using  Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration in Premiere Pro
    Cheers

Finally got fed up and rang Adobe (if all else fails...)
Video Support Team Member opened my Library folder (Go\Go to folder...\~/Library/) then went into \Preferences\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\ and changed the folder called 6.0 to 6.0old (i.e. rename it to anything else), then hit Queue in Premiere Pro and the project successfully opened in Media Encoder and was able to start encoding.
Hopefully that helps someone else suffering the same issue!

  • SpeedGrade render not using GPU, slow render speeds

    atHi!
I'm grading a fan-made feature-length film situated in this really obscure place called Middle Earth, and I'm currently rendering the final output.
Rendering speed has been really slow all along, so I decided to check upon GPU usage with a nVidiaInspector. It shows that GPU usage is between 0-5%. I'm able to get GPU usage to spike by switching to Monitor view (and scrubbing in timeline) instead of Output view in SpeedGrade. I understand that SpeedGrade is supposed to be GPU-accelerated throughout (not counting frame decompression made by codecs?), and now it seems that my CPU is doing all the lifting. CPU usage is around 100% all the time.
Render speed varies between 0.7 FPS and 6 FPS, which is far less than I expected, as I got reasonably fluid real-time previews all along the timeline when grading. Most typical clips have two primaries, two secondaries and a vingette mask primary on top. Total render time for 1 h 50 min timeline is expected around 12 to 18 hours.
My source material is 25 FPS 1080p CineForm AVI.
My output format is CineForm in Quicktime container (as AVI output with CineForm coded is not supported at present time) with automatic color calibration on, no audio, alpha discarded. Framing options are not in use (Full image (no proxy), 1:1 pixel aspect ratio, same size as proxy), and rendering is happeing  at Online Quality.
    My machine's specs are:
    - Intel i5 2400S quad-core
    - 16 GB of DDR3 RAM
    - nVidia MSI GeForce GTX 470 with 1280 MB memory
    - Windows 7, 64-bit
    - SpeedGrade 6.0.4x25
    - GeForce 310.70 drivers
    Any input is appreciated.

Maybe due to cineform quicktime?  Try other codecs to see what render speed you get.
    Regards,
    Mark.
PS I am geetin slow renders to cineform quicktime files from other app's (Premiere, Media encoder...)

  • Media Encoder not finding "audio capture device"

    Hi,
Im using Adobe Flash Media Encoder with Dxtory for Twitch streaming, and at first it worked fine. Recorded both my mic and game audio perfectly. Then seemingly suddenly, I fired it up  and it wouldn't stream the game audio. It would my Mic, but thats it. I then unplugged the mic and it started saying I had no Audio Capture Device. I checked in Dxtory and its set up the same as it was when it was working. It picks up both the mic and speakers like it should. I have uninstalled this program multiple times, both 3.1 and 3.2 versions, and each time when I re-download it, it loads up the same profile I had before. So when I am uninstalling it, its not uninstalling everything for some reason. Even though the program is no where to be found after its uninstalled. I have downloaded xsplit, and it picks up the game audio and my mic. So its just this program. Anyone have any ideas? I cant seem to find anything online about this issue.
    Thanks!

From where?  PP sequence?  PP bin?  PP Source Monitor?  Watch folder?

  • Media encoder not loading

The .exe for media encoder CC is missing from my local computer. I have uninstalled Premiere Pro and Media Encoder using add/remove programs, and then reinstalled Premiere and it is still missing.
    Using Win 7, 64 bit, 12gb ram.
Any ideas? Ive looked for another location to download this form but can not find it anywhere.

    Hi Mylenium,
    thanks for your response.
A recent problem on the computer saw all of  the adobe CC .exe files deleted (they were incorrectly marked as malware!).
I did a full uninstall of these apps using the unistall tool.
After uninstalling I used the CC desktop app to reinstall all the apps needed.
The Media Encoder (which I believe should install withh Premiere Pro) was not installed with Premiere.
I unistalled Premiere, restarted the computer and reinstalled Premiere. The Media Encoder again did not install with it.
I assume that there is still a registry entry telling the downloaded that Media Encoder is already installed.
    Using Win 7, 64 bit, 12gb ram.

I know OSX 10.9 Mavericks introduced a power saving feature called App Nap which is meant to slow down applications that it determins are inactive (could also happen with minimized applications). This would mostly likely be the problem if your issue only happens in OSX 10.9... but if it happens in OSX 10.8 then it I'm puzzled.
Did you check the Console for any error messages?
Anyways, try disabling App Nap for AME first...
    Go to your Applications folder
Expand the Adobe Media Encoder CC folder
Right-click on "Adobe Media Encoder CC.app" and select Get Info
Add a checkmark beside "Prevent App Nap"
    Restart the application
You could also do the same for other Adobe applications.

  • Media encoder not working

I have two ProRes timelines about 90 minutes each in length and when I try to export using "match Sequence Setting" or if I try to export to a DVD format, in ME they fail immediately with this code:
    - Encoding Time: 00:00:00
    12/06/2014 11:54:01 AM : Encoding Failed
A low-level exception occurred in: QuickTime (Exporter)

    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
I can export them directly from Premier with no issue to ProRes and to the DVD MPEG2 format.  I cleaned the media Cache, so I'm not sure what I should do next.  Also reinstalled Premier and Media Encoder.

For anyone else who might have this problem here is the exact steps I took to resolve this.
    1.Close all Adobe applications.
2.In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. (If you installed Premiere Pro CS4 in a location other than the default of C:\Program Files\Adobe, then navigate to your custom installation location.)
3.Right-click on Adobe Premiere Pro.exe (which might appear without the .exe extension) and choose Create Shortcut.
4.Rename the newly created shortcut to just Premiere.
Important: The name of the shortcut must be exactly Premiere with no other characters.
    5.Open a second Windows Explorer window, and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink.
6.Move the Premiere shortcut that you created into the dynamiclink folder.
Thanks again. Hope this helps others as well.
