Media Encoder slower with Yosemite

Hi Everyone
I am currently running a new Mac Pro. Under Mavericks it has been an excellent machine with Adobe CC, recently though I have gone to Yosemite. Adobe Media Encoder is certainly a bit slower. I know this as an 8min long training video project I have edited in Premiere which has a fair bit going on in the sequence, took 5:58  to export in Media Encoder when I ran Mavericks. I could replicate this result on more than 1 Mac Pro of the same specs, same Mavericks etc by just moving the thunderbolt hard drive the project is on. In Yosemite, the same sequence, same Premiere file now takes 6:20. For longer exports, that is a 5.5% time increase in time I'd rather not have, is there anything I can do to speed up Encoder under Yosemite? It seems that with a few recent upgrades to Encoder the program has slowed down a bit when using the OpenCL rendering. Turning off preview makes no difference.
On a different note, I have noted the project sometimes takes a little longer/shorter to export. All things being equal, is it normal to export sometimes the same export to take a few seconds longer or shorter just randomly? Eg sometimes 6:15 or 6:25?
Thank you all in advance.

Uninstalling Media Encoder CS6 shouldn't cause any problem to any CC apps, including Media Encoder CC.
There is no stand-alone uninstaller for Media Encoder CS6.  In order to uninstall it, you need to uninstall all CS6 apps on which Media Encoder CS6 is depending.  Those CS6 apps includes, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Flash, Prelude, SpeedGrade, and InDesign.  Media Encoder CS6 is installed as a part of those apps.  If you have any of those CS6 apps, please uninstall all of them.  This also uninstalls Media Encoder CS6.

  • My Macbook Air is running slow with Yosemite.

My Macbook Air is running slow with Yosemite.
I checked out most of the blogs and everything and have removed widgets from the notification center, but everything seems to run kinda slowly.
Sure, i have the base model 2014 macbook air but that 4 gb ram should run a freakin finder just fine. I had Mavericks installed before, and with that, i could do everything. I even made cool music in GarageBand and nothing was lagging for me. Now i installed Yosemite... Everything is lagging. Scrolling seems like it happens around 10 FPS. That aint good man. Memory cleaner says around 1gb ram free when only the finder is running in the background (before it did around 2). I just uninstalled Memory Cleaner o I'm not looking at that little amount of memory. I don't know what to do now? I would appreciate it, if someone would help me. Otherwise, ill just wait for a new update.

Since it's new I would take it back for repair or exchange under your warranty before bothering to read further.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Media Encoder fails with Time Remapping

There is a single 1 Minute Clip in the PR CC 2014 timeline, with some time remapping effects. Exporting with Media Encoder CC 2014 SLOWS DOWN speed of the clip after approx. 30 sec unintentionally and therefore gets out of sync with sound, and ends at a complete different frame than in the timeline.
However, exporting directly from PR CC 2014 gives correct result.
Anyway, this looks like a major "feature" of ME!?!
    (MacBook Pro 2013, 15", 2,6 GHz i7, OS X 10.9.4)

source is an uncompressed HD 1080 QT .mov file rendered from AE.
sequence settings are 1920x1080, 25fps, square, progressive
export settings are QT, H.264, 1920x1080, 25fps, progr, square, 20000kbps

  • Adobe Media Encoder Slows Encoding Process to Snails Pace

I am having real issues when exporting from After Effects CC to Media Encoder CC or when I import directly from AME. It happens on one particular comp and visibly slows to a snails pace in the output preview at the same point every time. I have gone into the project to see if there is anything untoward but I don't see anything out of the norm. It's a 6 minute animation with some video. I have 6 projects like this, each one contains the same mix of images and video and each is approx 6 mins. These took no more than 40mins each to export through AME, this one however has taken 3hours already and is only halfway through. This is the 3rd time I've tried to export it - any advice??
One thing I did do was clear my cache and memory in order to resolve an issue where after effects was trying to replace a font that it thought was missing. Not sure if that could have caused this. Has anyone else seen or experienced this?
    Macbook Pro 2.6Ghz i7
    16GB Ram
    500GB SSD
    OS X 10.9.2

First thing to check is what is on the Timeline at about the 50% point. Do you have an odd Asset there?
Do you have a gap in the Video at about that point?
Then, do you have adequate defragmented free space on the destination HDD?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • AE to Media Encoder slows when rendering multiple project files

So I'm trying to load in a bunch of compositions from various project files into Media encoder to render over night. I've noticed the first couple of projects render pretty quickly then it starts to bog down a lot. I mean very slowly chugging along through the renders. Is this a memory cache issue??? Any way to fix this? Is there a way I can clear the memory after a render finishes and before it moves on to the next?

See the known issue here about Adobe Media Encoder taking a very long time to open the first time on Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite):
After Effects with Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite)
Based on this, my suggestion is to open Adobe Media Encoder once, give it plenty of time to start because of this Mac OS bug, and then try again. My guess is that it'll work fine after that.

  • Media Encoder failing with AVCHD

There's been a few discussions about AVCHD but I haven't been able to find any that were resolved. In using AVCHD footage from my Canon C100 I've found that media encoder fails if CUDA hardware acceleration is enabled for the project. Having acceleration disabled slows down my system a lot so I wondered if anybody found a solution?
I'm using 6.2 on the Mac with a Quadro 4000 GPU.

    Hi Ann
Good point, I assumed it was the AVCHD footage as I've not had a problem exporting with MPE turned on until using this footage but I just tested some Canon MXF footage from the C300 and AME failed with that too.

  • Media Encoder CC 2014 Exports larger file than Media Encoder CC with same settings

We like to deliver final exports to most of our clients with the following settings:
    Format: Quicktime
    Codec: H.264
    Quality: 100
    1920x1080, 23.976, progressive, square pixels
    use maximum render quality
audio: uncompressed, 48khz, stereo, 16 bit, single track
When I used to export a ~5 minute video using these settings with Premiere or Media Encoder CC (7.2.2.29), I would get a file ~1GB. If I export a ~5 minute video using these settings in Premiere or Media Encoder CC 2014 (8.0.1.48), the result is ~ 4GB.
Any thoughts on why this might be? I assume it's a user error but I can't nail down what it is.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi matthewrichie88,
I used the same settings that you have mentioned above on a Windows 7 computer and got the same file size with both versions of Media Encoder. Please specify if you have a Mac or a Windows and which OS exactly? It would really help if you can post screenshots of your export settings with both versions. Give more details about the source files as well.
    Thanks!
    Rameez

  • Premiere and Media Encoder CC with Cineform(converted files have static for audio)

    Hi there,
using Media Encoder CC to convert 7D and 5DMKIII video files to Cineform .avi and all I'm getting at the other end for audio is loud static.  Video is fine but audio is corrupt.  Anyone run into this with CC?  I didn't have this problem before CC.

Do you have the same problem with other AVI codecs?  What about non-AVI options?

  • Media Encoder CS6 with Media Encoder CC

    Hi,
I have finally gotten Media Encoder CC installed. I still have Media Encoder CS6 on my computer. Can I uninstall Media Encoder CS6 without having problems with Media Encoder CC or any other CC apps? There is no uninstall optiion for ME CS6.
    Thanks

  • Adobe MEdia Encoder Crashes with big files inputed

    Hello,
There isn't a forum for the Adobe Media Encoder, so I thought this would be a good spot. I am an after effects and Premiere user who likes the idea Adobe seems to have of using the media encoder to cover all my encoding needs.
My typical workflow, especially since these days I'm doing more shorter form animations, is to render out to a Quicktime Animation codec file as my main archive file. From there, output all the various different web versions, flv, etc from that core archive file. Since my projects usually aren't running more than 5 minutes, this leaves me with a nice 3 - 7gig file.
Problem: I'm running CS4 and the media encoder crashes when I input files that are in this file size range. The program locks up when I push start que, and then eventually crashes. Works fine with smaller size files that are about under a gig.
I can run a render out of after effects, which seems to be more stable. But I'd love to be able to use this great new tool.
Here's my machine specs if it helps:
    PC
    Intel Quad Core Q9550 @ 2.83 ghz
    4gB RAM
    Windows Vista 64 bit ultimate
All updates current for CS4 apps as of 01/30/08
Running Adobe Media Encoder V 4.01.078
Hard drives are nothing special. 7200 rpm western digital internal and external. I've tried all sorts of hard drive configurations, where the input is coming from, where it's going, etc. No difference.
I have been experimenting with using Lossless AVI's as my "uncompressed" archive file. Works well, but same crashing with the Media Encoder.
Also tried experimenting with frame size alterations during encoding, no difference there. Also, whatever the output codec is, be it FLV, H264, etc. no difference.
Anyone have any thoughts or have experienced similar issues? I hope all my MAC friends aren't right, seems like all my attempts to streamline my workflow with this CS4 and beefy PC combo are crashing and burning.
Anyone else feeling this pain, or have recommendations?
    Thanks,

Thomas, thanks for your suggestions on Vista optimization. That Sheer Codec looks nice, but hard justify the cost when I've been working for years with essentially uncompressed codecs that work well. Will play more though to see if the cost would actually pay off in the long run though.
In general I made a decision that it was too early to throw in the towel on my old uncompressed codecs. The Quicktime animation codec has always been for me the safest, most universally accepted, and most reliable "uncompressed" codec. It's always worked in the past, not gonna give up just cuz media Encoder CS4 has troubles.
Mylenium, thanks for the reminder about the silly platform wars. I've always felt the same as you, but when I'm stressing sometimes the silly propaganda can get to me. Makes me forget that no matter what system ya got, it never works perfect!
Here's an update. I have trying my best to learn more about the bug and have come to some interesting realizations. The AME does work with larger files, just not the larger files that I had been using at the current moment. Older files of mine as big as 20GB can be inputed into AME with fine results.
This being said, it scratches out most of the RAM overload thoughts with AME.
The difference with my current files that were causing AME crashes: larger than a few GB, came from AE, had the 1.21 pixel aspect ratio metadata.
When I re-interpreted the file in AE into a square pixel aspect ratio, exported it, it was then successfully inputed into AME.
I have read just now that there were changes in After Effects widescreen pixel aspect ratio interpretation in CS4. Can this change be causing problems in my AME. Not positive, but I'm now thinking after many days of testing that the bug could have its roots somewhere in this ball park.
If anyone from Adobe is reading this, I would love any ideas you might have on this issue. In general, there is really no support for the Adobe Media Encoder itself. This is not good, considering how it is so necessary for AE and Premiere users like myself.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Media Encoder - Issue with exporting file

When I send a file to Adobe Media Encoder and I hit queue I get an error, "could not read from source file, please check if it has been moved or deleted".
The source file location that the AME is trying to use is C:\Users\User Name\AppData\local\temp\file name.prproj
    Is this file location correct?
Why is not using my scratch disk file?
How do I change the file that AME is trying to use?
I have not been able to export a video since I have purchased Premiere CS4.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a quick work-around do not try exporting from Premiere, just save and exit the project after you are through editing.  Open AME and under File, select Add Premiere Pro Sequence, browse for your project file and click on it once--have patience Adobe's feedback here is lousy--your sequence will finally appear in the Sequence window, click on it and then click on OK.  Select your Format,.Preset and Output location.  If you want to tweak your settings just click on the Settings button.  Then hit Start Queue.
Do you have the project on an external removable drive?

  • Media Encoder crashes with Bluescreen

I'm using Adobe Premiere CS4 w/ Windows XP to edit some MPEG2-Videos. All I do is importing them, doing some edits and exporting them back as MPEG2. Everything worked just fine with Premiere CS2. But since I upgraded to CS4, everytime I try to export a file with Media Encoder, my system crashes.
In about half the cases, there's a Bluescreen 000000B8 "A wait operation, attach process, or yield was  attempted from a DPC Routine". In the other cases, the BSOD errors vary (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA), the system just freezes or restarts without warning.
    What I've tried so far:
    Updating mainboard/chipset drivers
    Upgrading BIOS to latest version
    Switching graphics accelerator
    Trying different hard disks
    Changing RAM
    Checking Syslog for errors
Lightning a candle on Sunday :-)
    Reinstalling Apple Quicktime
Deinstalling all Adobe Software and reinstalling them from scratch
All Adobe programs and Windows itself are up to date
    Any more advises?

Often these problems can be caused by a faulty PSU or by heat problems. Use Speedfan or HWMonitor to check these and please post a link or screenshot to the results. Can you give some more details on the hardware side? Mobo, processor, RAM, PSU, video and disk setup, etc.

  • Media Encoder Question-With Explainable Images

    OS: Vista 32bit
    Producet:Adobe Premiere Pro Cs3
    Issue: concerning export settings
For: Facebook videos. req. H.264 video with AAC audio in MOV or MP4 format, 30fps, 44,100hz
I've have been exporting stuff for a while by File>Export Adobe Media Encoder, when timeline is fully selected.  Not sure if this helps but including anyways.
My concern is the settings to get a proper enough quality for facebook. 720HQ video
Settings are shown in the pictures:
Now my real problem is audio, which I need as the video has people singing and playing music.
Now I dont know if its some pre-setting, codec i'm missing, or etc.
But I do notice two thing when I exported audio:
-the Audio quality, which i've worked through soundbooth so its a wav file, is reduced after compiling in Adobe Premiere.  In which i noticed odd fluctuations when there are peaks of the sort.  Noticed that Apple Lossless kept the quality but was not an accepted audio format by facebook.
-I'm missing AAC format whichi i've been searching on the interenet with no solution
Two kind answers I'm looking for:
-solution to finding out why AAC audio codec isn't an option and add it as a choice
-find the best recommended audio export settings

adjust these settings to suit your own video...export setting fps should match your source and project.
my test on 1920x1080p 24fps came out fine , plays well on computer using classic media player.
