Media file type, how to pick player IN BROWSER LINKS ??

I hit an mp3 link in Safari, it opens a new tab to play it using what I think is a version of iTunes (it has a 30-sec button on the front?). Same in Firefox, though I get a window with Quicktime instead (big Q before playing).
*How on earth do I get the mp3 to play in an EXTERNAL player, preferably Realplayer?* So I don't leave the webpage where the mp3 link is.
...in Windows, you could select the media player of you choice and setup the file associations to go with each one under a "media types" options panel or suchlike. Though on my Mac I tried this by opening "Get Info" for a different saved mp3 on my machine, selecting "open with" > Realplayer > Change All, and it works for all ones stored ON MAC. However in Safari and Firefox, I hit an mp3 in a webpage and it does NOT open in Realplayer (just plays in the browser, so I can't read the rest of the page the file was on)??
How do I set the file-type media files play with in browser windows?
aaagh, it's soooo annoyong?!?!

I think you miss my issue.
I already KNOW I can download the mp3 then play it in Realplayer. But how do I get it to just open the mp3 and play straight into RP (or any other EXTERNAL player outside of the browser if RP can't be used for some reason) WITHOUT downloading the file to Downloads??
I just want to click the link in the middle of the webpage, eg.
*Blah blah blah blah, and here is my track samples:*
anysongsample1.mp3
anysongsample2.mp3
anysongsample3.mp3
anysongsample4.mp3
anysongsample5.mp3
anysongsample6.mp3
*Blah blah blah blah*

*Blah blah blah blahBlah blah blah blah*
*Blah blah blah blahBlah blah blah blahBlah blah blah blahvBlah blah blah blahBlah blah blah blahBlah blah blah blah*
*Blah blah blah blahvBlah blah blah blahv*
*Blah blah blah blahvv*
...if I have hundreds of tracks to go through, I don't want to dl them, just play without dl-ing them. I could do this easily in Windows, so how Mac??

I backed up my bookmarks to an external drive, rebuilt my system, and now when I try to restore from that file, I get "unsupported file type" How can I restore from this file?

Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup.<br />
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.<br />
    A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":<br />
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>
You may need to add quotes ("") around the name to rename the file to the correct file extension.

I found my itunes songs marked with an exclamation point in the media file.  How do I move them back into the libary?  I have tried copying and pasting but that didn't work.  When I hit control, then click, there is no option "Put back"  as suggeseted in the apple supoort article.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I have 60 000 songs on a hard drive. The songs are referenced to the media file and not stored in the media file. I have moved the songs to another external drive. The itunes library has lost the link to the media files. How can I restore the links?

I have all my songs (60 000) on a remote drive. The drive is wireless networked. I installed a new router and had to map the drive again. Once this was done itunes could no longer locate the music. My music is not sitting in my media file but is rather referenced to the location of the music. Now that the location has changed due to the remapped drive how can I link the itunes library to the songs (media)again.
I have read many help comments and forums but so far nothing specific about relinking once the songs have already been moved and are referenced songs.
A step by step procedure would be helpful.
    Thank you
    Graham

I've uploaded a newer version that might catch that error. For some background on the script look at this thread.
iTunes remembers the location of each file in the database. If you right-click on a missing file, click Get Info, cancel when it asks you to try to find it, then look on the summary tab it will show you the last known location in the form file://localhost/<some path>. If you put the files back where they are expected to be, close iTunes and reopen, then iTunes will find them again. If not my script can attempt the task. When the script asks for a media folder you should respond with Z:\ since that seems to be where the artist folders are located.

  • Missing Media files And How To replace them

I have moved a number of media files in the Motion project I'm working on. These media Files have simply been moved into another directory. I need to relink them up with the files but when I try and go to the button that says : "replace media file" I press it and nothing happens.
W.. isn't there supposed to be a window that pops up or somthing?
How else can I re-link these media files into my project without completley replacing them and redoing the trim fade placement etc.?

Have you tried the "Reconnect Media" command in the File menu? That should help you reconnect every media file in the project, instead of doing them one by one using the replace media button in the inspector.

  • What is the method for folder-browsing and selecting a non media file type in Android? [Air+AS3]

    Dear Gurus,
Being a newbie, I have been searching hi & low for the method to browse and select non-media related file type in android.
Besides the following these which I have reference from the AS3 Documentation (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/dev/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7fe4.html#WS5b3cc c516d4fbf351e63e3d118676a4c56-7ff0)
    var fileToOpen = File.documentsDirectory.resolvePath("");
                                  selectFile(fileToOpen);
                                  function selectFile(root:File):void
                                                 //var txtFilter:FileFilter = new FileFilter ("3D Model File", "*.obj; *.3ds;*.awd");
                                                 root.browseForOpen("Open",null);
                                                 root.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, selectedFile);
                                  function selectedFile(e:Event):void
                                                 trace(fileToOpen.nativePath + " file selected");
I have went through the following threads yet find no clear workable solution to it.  The closest reference is written in Flex MXML, and I have no luck for converting it to AS3 as there are several properties which I can't get it right.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/943887 | http://forums.adobe.com/message/4107990#4107990 | http://forums.adobe.com/message/4548154
Someone did mention some possible solutions through ANE but it is just too far beyond.  Even, the closest on-the-shelf solution of ANE by http://myappsnippet.com/file-browser-air-extension/ only work best to an extent and not truely "native" as the UI is not default from Android.  It has workable I/O but poor usability; you can't skin it.
Is there any other workaround solution to this general I/O question?  I would love to hear from everyone here.

The short answer to my knowledge is there is nothing you can invoke from AIR to open an OS-level dialog to browse/select a file. All implementations typically are people writing their own browser. They crawl the folders/files recursively and write their own display for the files. You can see a few on SO:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12255418/as3-air-browse-for-file-on-sd-card
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12257626/as3-get-zip-file-on-phone-from-app-file-path-t hen-unzip
It's not to terribly hard to code something like this (especially with that starter code). Otherwise, like you found, an on-the-shelf ANE is the only way I believe you can invoke the Android Intent for a file dialog. At that point skinning won't really be terribly easy given the nature of Android users who are completely allowed to customize their UI top to bottom.
The safest bet is just let that posted code recurse and find the files you tell it to while displaying the list to the user. You can use some pre-written GPU-level lists that you can skin yourself using FeathersUI:
    http://www.feathersui.com (uses Starling)
Or you can use one of the Flash Pro List components which will be quite a bit slower being they're not GPU optimized like some Flex Spark components.

  • Why does my windows phone say it is unable to download file type when trying to install firefox browser?

I have no restrictions on phone. I tried to be safe and use security features like... Safe search, cookie block and such. However it keeps saying unable to download file type when I try and install any of the up to date browsers. This is interesting to say the least. Because my browser is already using the most up to date version. I have internet explorer using a windows 8 nokia

hello, the mobile version of firefox isn't available on the windows phone platform: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/will-firefox-work-my-mobile-device#w_other-operating-systems|Will Firefox work on my mobile device?]
there have been technical and legal hurdles in the app store originally which discouraged mozilla from starting any developments in this direction. i don't know about the current situation, but since mozilla is now focusing its energies on creating firefox os as open source web-based platform, i doubt that you will see firefox on your windows phone device in the foreseeable future...

  • Cannot associate media file types .swf .flv with Adobe Flash media player

I have been trying to associate these media types ( .swf .flv ) with Adobe Flash media player (9.0.124 latest from Adobe site) but cannot see the program in the list (looked under Adobe, Flash, Macromedia, Common etc) after loading. I have repeated the process, rebooted, and no luck.
Any ideas why a new program should not show in the Programs list ?

Thanks, I'm curious to find out what's different. I've repair disk permissions again using the one in Disk Utility instead of Cocktail with not luck As far as I can tell, all my issues seem to be occurring solely on www.adultswim.com and is sill happening with Camino, Firefox, Safari, and SWF & FLV Player. I'll keep checking other sites to see if the problem manifests itself elsewhere and I'll post any other changes I make to my system that might appear to help.

  • How do I tell a plugin (vlc) to play one media file type but not another?

I just installed the vlc plugin for osx to watch a certain live stream.
unfortunately vlc also thinks it should handle all mp3 files I open in safari.
how do I reassign the quicktime plugin to handle mp3 links in my browser?

    I'm not offended!

  • If I change a file name, how can I get all the links to update?

    I've recently finished my webpage
(kensingtonconcertseries.com),.....then my client wanted to change
the name of one of his pages from 'Marold Duo' to
'Rodewald-Morebello Duo.' All of my links to that page are to the
original page(MaroldDuo.html). Arrrhhhhh!!! Is there anyway I can
change the name of the page and have all the links within the
    website update automatically?
I figured out my problem...make a copy and rename it and put
it on the server. Simple....eventually, I'll have to get rid of the
original file, but for now works well.

If you change a file name within Dw's File manager - it will
    offer to
update all pages linked to it, accept that invitation

Get Info window is where you can change things:
Right click (Control click) on the file icon using the Finder.
Take a look at the Open with: part of the Get Info window to set the app for that file extension. Click the Change All button so all of these file types open using your preferred application.

  • All Realtime Media Files now appear as Macromedia Flash files.

Help sought for a friend...who can no longer access the majority of his years worth of accumulated media files and i'm stumped -
For no known reason, upon restart of a MacBook running 10.4, every single media file that was originally Realtime Player format,
now appears as a "Macromedia Flash (.flv) file.  None opens upon icon click.
There was no installation (at least none that my friend initiated) of any new software that would explain the 'conversion.'  Meanwhile,
the immediate objective is to restore all of the original-formatting.   It appears that only these RealTime files were affected .
Any idea on what can be done to rectify this?   As I understand it the Flash app version -  is  7.   version 10 was uninstalled in
an effort to see if the files would be recognized as Real Player files once again after uninstall and restart.
All YouTube or other downloaded files that were in RealPlayer format are now identified as .flvs, and upon attempting startup of
Real Player  for some reason that App crashes and will no longer open.
    Ideas?
    Thanks alot,

    maybe you already tried this,
but what happens if you select one of the files in the finder,
    do  + I
and in the "open with" section, you pick the application you normally want to use for these files
and click "modify all" just underneath

  • "Open with" command tries to open a document via Firefox, even though I have reassociated the file type numerous times.

Some time ago after installing the new Adobe Creative Suite 5, my indd file extensions lost their association to InDesign. I mis-clicked when trying to correct this and accidentally selected Firefox from the list of programs. But now I can't seem to correct the problem. I've reassociated the file extension with InDesign, but when I try to open the file, a dialog box pops up in Firefox asking if I'd like to open the file in InDesign. If I click OK, a new tab and new dialog box pops up -- endlessly. I've tried editing the registry but nothing seems to work. How can I erase firefox from this file extension's memory?

This is actually based on how the site handles different file types; Hotmail gives it to the browser as "application/octet-stream" or something like it, whereas sites that properly open it in the browser tag it as "application/pdf". Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about this without setting up a proxy to rewrite the HTTP headers. Complaints to Hotmail in the past haven't worked, and it's not possible to override the behavior in Firefox.
