Media is gone

just updated my iphone4 and ipad 1, and got the newest 10.4 patch, and now itunes won't display any media except podcasts and itunes u content, the files are still in the folder, i can double click on them and they play in itunes, but never show up in the itunes window as being part of the library... is anyone else having this problem?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
You may want to also do the following...
Remove battery
Remove Media Card (while it is out, you could use a PC to check what content it actually has)
Insert battery and reboot...allow plenty of time for the BB to sense that there is no media card
Remove battery
Insert Media Card
Insert battery and reboot
See if whatever the content is has returned (be sure to allow sufficient time for the BB to fully scan the media card)
Best!

  • Media server gone after v1.0.02 E4200

I have been at this for hours now   I refomatted the drive 2x and had it back once or twice until I transfer some videos and pictures to the drive then its gone.   I have rebooted the router several times and the media server is GONE.   FTP uploads and downloads work fine.
I noticed a new Twonkey interface in my webrowser in the short while the media server was working.   This is driving me crazy.
please fix the E4200 media server in .02 firmware

I was also able to reproduce this problem and I also saw that it displayed random letters in the media server webpage when using a San Disk USB. I'll let the engineers know
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • Media Panel gone in CS 5.5 drop 14

I believe all my updates are current. I am on a Mac running 10.7 using CS 5.5 Master Collection and drop 14.
My Media Panel does not show anything, ever. If I click on video, audio or Flash nothing shows in the Media Panel. Anyone else experience this? How would I fix it?
My guess is uninstall all of Master Collection and start over. - This would be the fourth time I have had to reinstall Master Collection since CS 5.5 was released.
    David

after doing this Bridge will close and I have to go back thru PS Cs 5 and reopen Bridge
I'm afraid you still have to give more info about system version and exact software versions (use about in both applications for these numbers).
What do you mean with close (unexpected quit, crash or it just closes)
Why do you need to start Bridge in PS CS5. Bridge is a stand alone application that came bundled with some CS applications. However you are able to start Bridge from your program folder.
For your info, by default hitting right mouse click to gain duplicate or use menu Edit / duplicate always has worked flawlessly on my Mac (current OS 10.8.5 with Bridge CC) an shows up with the addition of 'copy' added to the original filename. It only needs a view seconds to cache thumbs and preview.

  • Itunes says I need an additional 52.9MB of space to sync my ipod, settings says I have 155MB of space it is an 80GB with 11700 tunes on and no other media, can anyone help ? Dennis

My itunes will not sync because it says I need 52MB of space, however, I have 155MB of space left according to settings, it is an 80GB version with 11750 tunes on,73.95 GB used and no other media, so it would seem it should have space, can anyone help
    Dennis

I ran into a similar problem.  I can't remember the user here (BZ something) but they suggested to synch by checking synch only checked items.  Then deselect all items and reselect only 1.  This should successfully synch.  Then, after that is done, select everything you want to synch and it should synch.  On my iPhone5 I have 64 GB.  The slider bar said I had about 20 GB free but synch failed and said I needed 5 free GB.  I had 20 free.  Basically what he said was the slider lies ( the media is gone but the file space hasn't been freed up yet).  My trouble started when I went from iOS6 to 7.  I did what he suggested.  I got all my stuff in and still have 14.1 GB free.  Hope it works for you.

  • How do I move my iTunes media files ?

    I have the new 2011 mac mini with a 256 G SSD and a 750 G HD.
My question is how do I transfer all my songs, movies, etc. to the 750 G HD?
Everytime I download something it goes straight to the 256 G SSD..
I tried to move my entire itunes folder to the HD and when I booted up itunes all media was gone and would not load, so I transferred it back to the SSD.
New to macs so any help would be appreciated..  Thanks!!

There are many ways to copy the iTunes folder.  The easiest way (I think) is to just open two finder windows, then drag the folder from one to the other.  Make sure you see a "+" sign so you know you are copying rather than moving.  Between two drives copy should be the default, but you toggle that by holding the option key.
Although really, you could just move it there.  I posted to copy because I am always paranoid about backups.  The point is, if iTunes is NOT open, you just need to get the iTunes folder where you want it (the whole thing).  Then just open iTunes holding the option key so it will prompt you for the location of your library.

  • Where oh where have my projects gone?

I am new to FCPX.  Started with a few projects to test it out, imported footage from external hard drives... Started working.  The next thing I knew I was putting together a video for work and after ejecting my hard drive and taking it with me... FCPX is a blank canvas again.  It's like I'm launching it for the first time.
I never purposefully set up capture scratch or project file save locations, but just started editing. I ejected the drives and now nada.
I can't seem to find any of my workflow, the sequences or anything.  It prompted me to reimport media which I did on a few pieces of content thinking it might reconnect my project files, but alas... it did not work out.
Any help reconnecting would be much appreciated.

I guess that's just it... I just opened FCP and all my projects were gone.
I had no problems opening/closing/opening when the portable drive was connected.  The issue came when I ejected the drive to take ot the office... when I came back, plugged it back in and opened FCPX, all the media was gone, the projects, events were not there.
It was like opening FCPX for the first time.  Thanks it... I'm used to working with FCP7 so I can't say I'm really 'versed' in the file architecture on this software.  I'm really confused about how simple it claims to be but yet this seems like the most 'simple issue that should not go this terribly wrong.
I had at least 4 sequences totally done... all my editing, transitions, music, audio in/out/fade... all gone.
Do you know how I can reimport the project files to match up with the media which I have?

  • Recapturing deleted media

I have a fcphd project file that had all the media (10 hours) deleated from external hd. I still have the project file and all reels have no timecode breaks. I am trying to recapture all the media using batch capture in the capture window. I am having problems with the timecode. FCP cant find it and then it aborts capture.
I also have a duplicated item prompt before it will go to the batch window. The window asks if I want to rename a file because there is already a file in that name. The thing is that the file that needs a new name is a WAV. file that has nothing to do with the reels I am trying to capture. Answers are really appreciated and I thank you in advance for any help.

    We feel your pain.
Media management remains a sad joke within FCP. Sometimes it works like magic.
My first suggestion would be to try one clip at a time and see if you can determine a pattern to the timecode issues. If you can limp along a few clips at a time, forget trying to recapture all ten hours. You don't need it all (no, you don't). Just try to grab the essential stuff and then make some protection and then get back to work, filling in the gaps as you go.
What I'm getting at is you can spend days trying to force recapture to function and it might never work. Do the triage and figure out your worst case scenario's only shortcut to getting back to work, because, umm, you have experienced it: Your media is gone and recapture is apparently broken.
You could also try capturing one tape and see if the individual clips from that reel will reconnect if you point them at the larger clip. It's asking a lot.
I wish you luck and I hope you get better suggestions over the next few hours. I tend to assume a TOTAL DISASTER in cases like these.

  • Slightly OT: Inconsistencies with FCP/Media, missing etc...

    Hello,
I have had my share of issues in the past and every now & then I see a post where "my media is gone" or missing. I have had files mysteriously disappear myself. Sometimes a simple restart brings them back, other times they are just plain gone. My current "problem" is that the application Soundtrack is no longer on my hard drive? I know I installed the Suite and all the other programs are there but Soundtrack isn't! In any case, after I installed a 150GB Raptor, I find out via WD that the G5 tower does not support certain SATA standards and this can issues... at least with that drive. I am thinking is can cause issues with any drive? I would be curious is someone is having issues with "missing" files or other issues that can't be explained via normal troubleshooting, that if you install a Serial ATA card to boot from... I am guessing the issues will go away.
    Mike

    Gerben,
This is pretty far off topic. But, a couple notes:
    1) The latest round of digital SLRs (Canon D40, 5D, Nikon D300, etc.) can produce better large prints than you can from a 35mm slide. You can pretty easily look at the results, it's not really close any more. And the top digital cameras (e.g. Canon 1Ds Mark III -- which isn't currently supported by Aperture) can produce quality prints closer to what you can get with medium format film.
    2) If you want good results from a slide, you need to use a slide scanner on the negatives or the positives. A flatbed scanner (even if you do 4000 DPI) won't be close. I've seen the results from both and there's a huge difference. The Nikon Coolscan 5000 is a pretty good scanner for slides and negatives. Note the workflow of shooting film and scanning it will take WAY longer and give you WAY less flexibility than shooting digital.

  • Since update, ATV has lost all my media... twice!

After I did the update last week, I noticed all of my photos, movies, tv, and music were wiped off of my ATV. I thought sh*t, that ***, but maybe that was supposed to happen with the update right? So I connected the cord, resynced, and waited an hour to upload everuthing... now, 5 days later, all my media is gone again. Now I can totally resync with my itunes, AGAIN, but duuuuuuuudddde, why does every Applie update end up being a pain in the backside? Is anyeone else having this issue? Any advice outthere?
Why do all the apple gadgets work so great, until you need them to?

    This should not happen.
It could be some kind of bug as there's another person with the same issue:

    Send feedback via the link:

  • How to trash media after project is done

I'm using FCP 7. I just finished a project, burned to DVD, saved a QT (full resolution) in my external HD and now I would like to get rid of all the media I used for the project for disk space purpose.
Can someone please tell me how do I do that? I have an external HD where I keep all my FCP projects (scratch disk).
Also, once I do that, will I still be able to edit the saved project in the future (the one I keep in my internal HD) or once the media is gone, you can't do anything else?
    Thank you very much.

If the QT file you exported was self-contained, then you can edit that later if needed.
To delete files associated with that project, open your scratch disc and locate the folders bearing that project's name. There should be a folder with that project's name inside these folders on your scratch disc:
    Audio Render Files
    Autosave Vault
    Capture Scratch
    Render Files
Also locate the Thumbnail Cache and the Waveform Cache folders; files for that project will also be located in those two folders, but not in their own named folder.
Move all of the above to the trash, then delete the trash.
Since the project file itself is relatively small, I recommend that you keep that one ... just in case you ever need to re-capture/re-edit.

I've updated to the most recent version of iTunes and I can no longer see any of my old music on my mac.  All the music is still available on my ipad.  How can i download the music on my mac?

First, are you positive it is really not there?  Have you looked in your iTunes folder in your Music folder, and in the media folders there? Do you see your media files?
If your media are gone it is a lot easier to restore from a proper computer backup.  Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

  • Recover data from CD RW

Just yesterday I upgraded my OS to tiger 10.4.8 from 10.2.8
I did the erase and install option so as to remove OS9 from my hard drive since I have no OS9 software.
Prior to the upgrade I saved all my important files to CD RW. (this took 3 CDs, so there was a lot of data)
Two of the CDs worked fine and I was able to copy those files back onto my hard drive, but one CD RW, and wouldn't you know it; the one with the most important files, looks to be blank to the computer. When I insert the CD I get the "You have inserted a blank CD" window.
I know the files are there because I consistently back up these files to this very same CD RW. My usual practice is to quick erase the CD, then back up the latest versions of these files on the same CD RW. My last back up was last week and it worked fine. So yesterday I quick erased the CD and then put the newly modified files on that same CD. Everything proceded normally.
After the erase and install of the OS, this CD now looks blank to the computer. These files represent 4 years of work! I may have lost the changes I made to these files in the last week, but I need all my previous work back.
The one optimistic thing here is that I have hard copies of my work but it will take weeks to re-enter it all.
How can I recover this data?
iMac G4 flat panel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   768 MB RAM, 700MHz processor, Airport Card, 40GB hard drive

    Hello Tom
It's probably not what you want to hear but it sounds like your media has gone bad. The only thing you can really do is try reading the disk on other computers - you might get lucky. Or use a specialist salvage application to attempt to recover your data e.g. http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1. I'm not recommending this particular product just providing it as an example. Google will help you find others. There may be companies in your area that offer recovery as a service for you.
To prevent such a circumstance in the future, I suggest you revise your backup strategy. At a minimum use multiple generations of media. There is lots of discussion on backup strategies to be found on these pages that might help you.
    Good luck!

I am using the most recent version of iTunes and when I connect my iPhone 5 to my Windows 7 pc, I can no longer see the screens for the iPhone in iTunes. I want to see them so I can rearrange my app icons. I see the apps but not in a iPhone screen view and they cannot be moved.

  • How can I stop iTunes from losing or deleting MY music?

I have a large CD collection. I have downloaded them to iTunes over a period of years. When I go looking for a particular song, it is often missing. I have been checking my iTunes library lately and much of the music I downloaded from MY CD collection is missing. Why does iTunes lose or delete music I have legally purchased. NOTE: I don't burn a lot of CDs. I have half a dozen playlists for CDs I have burned one time for my personal use. I have one playlist for my iPod and one for the music on my phone. Is this causing a problem? What is going on?

That's odd.  I have been using iTunes since before it was even iTunes (Soundjam) and I lose a file about once a year. Even then I can't say it wasn't something I did. Based on the information we have I would say it is anything from clumsy fingers to serious hard drive corruption.  Despite many conspiracy theory posts to the contrary I have a hard time believing Apple programmers spliced in code to randomly select a non-Store track to delete at set intervals.
First, is the actual media file gone, or is it only the track entry in iTunes which in reality is nothing more than a pointer to a media file?  Look in you iTunes Folder > Media etc.
