Media Manager - After Effects - Quality

Hi,
I'm not exactly sure where to ask this, so I'm asking here.
I'm editing a ProRes 422 sequence in Final Cut. If I 'copy' media using Media Manager, getting rid of the unused portions (while keeping 2 sec handles), will there be a loss of quality in the newly produced clips?
Also, If I correct one portion of the image in After Effects CS5 (such as removing an object in one small part of the image) and export to ProRes, will there be a quality loss in the parts of the image that were untouched?
Do these processes affect the untouched portions of the clips or are they identical to the original?
Thanks for any information.
Matt

If I 'copy' media using Media Manager, getting rid of the unused portions (while keeping 2 sec handles), will there be a loss of quality in the newly produced clips?
Shouldn't be. This is just a COPY but within parameters. ONLY THIS PART OF THE CLIP. No recompression. But don't take my word for it. TEST it. See for yourself.
If I correct one portion of the image in After Effects CS5 (such as removing an object in one small part of the image) and export to ProRes, will there be a quality loss in the parts of the image that were untouched?
Slight loss of quality in the WHOLE image, as you are recompressing. And you won't just lose it in the area you are treating, but the WHOLE clip. Because you are exporting the whole clip. But ProRes is designed to hold up to 10 recompressions before you can see it. Again, test and see for yourself.

  • What size should my imported media in After Effects be?

I have a Premiere Pro file that I am trying to convert to h.264 in After Effects.  I had originally conveted an avi with a non compatible codec for Premiere to understand to a 720x480 dvd vob file for ease of importing.  I didd'nt loose too much quality in the process which I was happy about.
When exporting an HDV 1080p 24 scene from Premiere  to AE for a bit of editing, the new dimensions turned out to be 1440x1080.  After rendering to an h.264 mp4 movie in AE, the end result was crystal clear but the physical size of the live video was about half the size of the original 720x480 vob file I began with.
Idk if the size of the project is 1440 x 1080 and the video itself is smaller like canvas and image sizes in photoshop?  I'm kinda new at this.

I have a Premiere Pro file that I am trying to convert to h.264 in After Effects.
That's not the best method. After Effects can't do multipass encoding which provides better-looking video at smaller file sizes. Use Adobe Media Encoder to encode into H.264. If you're using AE to do some color grading, motion graphics, or compositing, render a lossless video out of AE and use the Media Encoder to do the final compression.
... 720x480 dvd vob file for ease of importing...When exporting an HDV 1080p 24 scene from Premiere  to AE for a bit of editing...
I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you taking a smaller video file and blowing it up to 1080?
Also, AE is not a good program for editing; Premiere is an editing program. AE is for compositing, motion graphics and (for some people) color grading.
Also also, you shouldn't have to export from Premiere to AE. You can import a Premiere project directly into AE with cuts and all intact.
When exporting an HDV 1080p 24 scene from Premiere  to AE for a bit of editing, the new dimensions turned out to be 1440x1080
What do you mean by "new dimensions"? The normal size for HDV video is 1440x1080. The pixel aspect ratio stretches it out to appear 1920x1080 on screen, but the actual pixel size is 1440x1080. Is the Premiere sequence you are exporting different? What video sources are you using? How are you exporting?
Also, as mentioned previously, you shouldn't have to export from Premiere to AE. You can import a Premiere project directly into AE with cuts and all intact.
After rendering to an h.264 mp4 movie in AE, the end result was crystal clear but the physical size of the live video was about half the size of the original 720x480 vob file I began with.
No such thing as "physical size" in the digital world unless you print something out. Are you saying the finished video appears smaller on your screen?
Idk if the size of the project is 1440 x 1080 and the video itself is smaller like canvas and image sizes in photoshop?  I'm kinda new at this...Am I missing a step here or does it have to do with my render and output settings?
There is nothing like canvas and image sizes in AE. Now, if your video doesn't fill the composition, it will be smaller... To be honest, I'm not actually sure what your question is. What is the actual problem you're having?
To be honest, you should really start here and work your way through those resources. Not only will it (probably) answer your current issue, but it will make you better able to ask questions in the future, because you will understand the vocabulary.

  • Media Encoder/After Effects CC 2014 Only Export Audio

I've been having a strange problem with Media Encoder CC 2014 & After Effects CC 2014. If I try to export a comp either through Media Encoder or directly from the After Effects Render Queue then it only exports audio. If I bring the AE Comp into Premiere and export from there either by sending it to Media Encoder or exporting it directly from Premiere then it exports fine and gives me audio and video.

  • Rendu media encoder / after effect dynamic link, modification non prises en charges

  • Error code 6 & media offline & after effect warning errors.

Increasingly I am getting the attached error messages when I try to open files. (mostly .psd and .ind files)
1.) It often says I don’t have permission to open the file, it is not the right type of file, or the file doesn’t exist... none of which are true.
The files always work if I copy them locally and open them from my harddrive.
    2.) "media offline" error.
    3.) after effects warning error.
    Help needed. Thx.

    Hi Saif,
You might get several issues, if you are directly opening files from the server or a network location, to your machine and editing them. You might also get issue while saving then to the server. I think your issue is one of them.
This is because, several thing comes into picture while you are opening, editing, saving files over the network. You may face some network issues, firewall issues and mostly permissions issues.
So, adobe always recommends to save the file locally on the machine first and then perform editting and saving operations. once you are done, you can copy it to the network.
Check the below article just for reference.

  • Missing Media Manager after 4.3 Upgrade

I had Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 installed on my laptop, and Media Manager was installed and working.  I upgraded to Desktop Manager 4.3 and now Media Manager is not there.  I checked another PC that has Desktop 4.2 SP2, with Media Manager and it still works for my device.  Have I done something wrong?  I have a BB 8700c through AT&T.  I am running Windows XP.  I have already tried a Repair and a Reinstall.
    Thanks

Well, that certinaly should have it.   It may be an older install was corrupt and hasn't uninstalled properly.   This document references an older version of the Desktop Manager, however its steps are still relevant when removing files:

  • After effects quality

I have exported a video from Premiere CS3 (a character in blue screen) to chroma key it in AFX. I rendered the composition using Microsoft DV option, but I have noticed a loss in quality, The face of the character seems out of focus.
What´s the best codec to use when exporting from AFX to Premiere, or vice-versa?

As Steve said, DV is evil, even more so Microsoft's implementation of it. Not only does it introduce block artifacts, but it also reduces the available chroma range. You should only use it, if you captured the video already this way in Premiere, but even then you would just use Premiere's own stuff, which offers a better quality (within what's possible with DV). If that's not the case, use an losslesssly compressed format like Quicktime with Animation or PNG compression. Even TIFF and Targa image sequences with RLE compression would work without consuming endless disk space...

  • Cannot launch V cast Media Manager after install

    Windows XP, SP3
Just installed the program (and uninstalled, and reinstalled 3x's with and w/o security programs enabled). Upon the finish of the install is a "Launch" button. When clicked, the program launches, a tutorial screen pops up, and freezes every time. I've tried restarting the computer and then restarting the program with no success.
My husband has installed it successfully on our Mac OS 10.6.6 and Windows 7 systems.

Just joined up. Having the same problem. Was on the phone with 3 different Ver. techs for 4 hrs. before one asked me to check the FAQS, which states Verizon V-Cast is down. They didn't wven see it! Been over 12 hours and STILL DOESN"T WORK! I'm just trying to download pics from my old (broken lv11000 env-touch) to the warranty replacement without having to buy the $card. All the techs said I should be able to download without the crd if their system was up. Any suggestions or experience out there??

  • For some reason, I can't compile a video or image sequence anymore with Premiere, Media Encoder, or After Effects... All CC

I have been working on a video for awhile now and I've recently noticed that my .flv export format has been removed from my choice of encoders. I export from Poser Pro Game Dev to Png Image Sequence. I organise a cam angle in After Effects...I re render out to a png image sequence.. continuing to hold quality. Then when a scene is done; I use Premiere to export a 1080 by 720 wmv format 29.97. But now I can't encode from Premere, Media Encoder, or Affter Effects. Please ...Any help would be much appreciated.

  • 24p to 29.97i in Premiere, Media Encoder or After Effects?

Sorry to bring up a much discussed topic, but as I looked on the web and in the Adobe forums I got sort of lost in the tangle of discussion about how to best take a 24p sequence in Premiere and convert it to 29.97i for broadcast. I feel like this is something that Premiere might be able to do? Or maybe Adobe Media Encoder? I generally see from other forums and posts that this is done in After Effects, an app I have never even opened. So if the answer is that I need to use AE, then I'm hoping for some detailed guidance or perhaps a tutorial video? Though as I say that I know that certainly sounds rather demanding
Any comments or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks much,
    Bradley

It gives me the same error each time. I've tried all the usual tricks: deleting caches, preferences, repairing permissions, trying as different users (including a band new user). I also uninstalled and reinstalled the software, and it threw the same error. In perusing the forums, it looked like someone else had a similar issue, but it was a Windows specific fix, and I couldn't figure out how to port that to the Mac. I figured I'd have more luck on the forums after wasting an hour and half on the phone with Adobe, and still not even connected to the right department.
Also, I validated all my fonts with Font Book (since it seemed like it could be a font problem). It found 3 fonts with "serious errors", but I removed them and the problem persisted.
Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sam

After 10 hours of troubleshooting, I've gotten AE to start in Safe Mode. I've tried disabling/deleting color profiles, fonts, QuickTime components, all to no avail. I've cleaned all the caches, etc. etc. In reading Apple's support document on Safe Boot/Safe Mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564), my best guess is that it's a faulty kernel extension, or a faulty startup item. I've tried disabling all the login items, but since it's crashing on a brand new user account as well, my guess is it is not a login item. I've updated all the drivers for my peripherals.
Multiple uninstalls (using Adobe uninstaller, and double checking with Adobe cleaner script) and reinstalls have not changed the behavior: AE starts in Safe Mode, not in normal mode.
Any advice on figuring out exactly what extension/item is faulty?

    sorry My bad english

Yea, I guess Unix and Linux...I guess it was made for those OS's...I really went out of my way to do my homework on this as far as being a good free tool to use...I don't understand why it didn't come with an uninstaller for Windows...I understand it's free and all...but I feel that as an author/creator there should be some kind of documentation to let users know that certain things take place differently for other OS's it was intentionally meant for. I am in negative state of mind right now because I had to go through the process of reinstalling so many programs back to my computer (Internet Explorer, Music Programs, Photoshop, PreE 8, Zips Opener, etc, etc, etc. to many programs to list which it rendered unusable.
As far as going back to restore point...that was a big mistake on my part...a while back I caught one of those free Anitvirus 2010 program auto installers from visiting a website and it was a nightmare trying to get rid of it and one of the procedures to remove it was to turn off restore point, well I forgot to turn it back on after I removed it off my comp.
