Media Manager Driving Me Crazy
I have been using FCP for 3 years now and was an Avid & Media 100 editor for years before that.
I've just finished my first offline in FCP. I normally just digitize everything at full resolution for my edits, but my latest project used 8 hours of footage for a 52 minute program.
I finished my offline last night and today I was going through the media manager process. I've read all of the documentation and I'm no stranger to the offline/online workflow on other systems. I set Media Manager to only get what I need for the final master, deleting unused media, not capturing master clips, associated files or anything like that.
When I go to batch digitize at full resolution from the newly created project/sequence, it tells me it needs six hours of footage for my 52 minute master. Huh?
As I dissect the program,I find six short clips that are causing me problems. I can double click the clips and open them up in the viewer and it shows me in and out points and a duration of 3 seconds and 14 frames. If I control click that same clip in the timeline and highlight "Capture...", it tells me that it needs 2 hours and 47 minutes of footage for this clip. Huh?
This has been driving me insane for hours. Am I missing something? My final solution has been to delete the problem clips from the program and capture everything else.
Once the majority of the clips are in, I'll deal with my problem children later.
Has anyone else seen this? Did I do something wrong? Is the offline/online workflow always this buggy?

My archive is more just a list of our tapes, masters and original footage. Not an archive of final cut pro projects, my company has a backup and separate archival process for that.
For the tapes, I basically started with OT-1 (original tape #1) and sequentially numbered each tape. Then I also had columns for the client, job name, job number, tape number, tape format, tape number (for that specific job) and general contents comments.
Email me off list by going to my profile, my email address it there. I can send you a sample of my list. Its pretty simple, but it works for us.

Network Manager driving me crazy (3 issues)

nm-applet is driving me crazy!
First issue: when I boot nm-applet doesn't appear in my tint2 eventhough I'm connected. This don't appear all the time, it's random. I have to kill it and restart it to be able to see it.
I use openbox and I have this in .config/openbox/autostart
(sleep 3 && /usr/bin/nm-applet --sm-disable) &
Second issue:
I selected the save option for the password of my vpn but it won't save it... Or wait, yes it will.. But not all the time. It asks me for the pass sometimes, and sometimes not
Third issue:
I thicked the "automatically connect to vpn for this connection" but guess what... It won't
Any idea about how to troubleshot this. I'm seriously considering pacman -R network-manager and pacman -S something else

Last edited by Truc (2014-03-06 21:17:51)1st issue: run nm-applet from the command line (take it out of openbox's start file wherever that is) after you log in to see what's going on.
2nd issue: do you have gnome-keyring installed? I believe it should be started with by networkmanager when it's needed, but you may need to figure out how to start it on your own. I don't know how.
3rd issue: I believe the automatic connection to vpn on a specific network is triggered by networkmanager-dispatcher which is just part of the networkmanager package, but is its own separate service. When you enable/start NetworkManager via systemctl, it should enable/start 3 services - the dispatcher is one of them. Do you have that running?
I may be wrong about some of this; it's been a while since i've used NetworkManager. -

I listen to primarily classical music
All of my music was very deliberatley titled by composers "Last Name, First Name" as the artist.
iTunes is changing it to the Album Artist. I have to go in and delete that information - AND THEN IT LATER REVERTS IT BACK!!!
Hours have been wasted and I am feeling so ticked.

If these are ripped mp3s then another possibility is multiple embedded tags. iTunes works best with a single ID3v2.3 tag. Some software creates both an ID3v1.0 and IDv2.x tag. With multiple tags it is not certain which iTunes reads or which it updates, and any device may choose differently. Once songs have the correct info. in iTunes you can use Convert ID3 Tags... None several times, then Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. The process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows. You could use my script CreateFolderArt before and after to save and then restore the artwork.
In the long run you may be better off populating Album Artist properly with a copy of whatever is currently in Artist. My script CopyArtistToAlbumArtist can do this effectively.

Media Manager - Images tranferred - Displays a red X
Have 8703e BB. Have Internet Services turned off directly by Sprint - don't need it and do not want to be charged for the non-communication Casual Data Usage (a slick illegal method cell phone companies charge when internet services are turned off - had to file federal charges before they took it off my bill). Can't download ringtones or pictures.
Tried to transfer ringtones and images a while ago and Media Manager would not recognize my device. Finally found out that without an external card, the Media Manager would not recognize my device.
However, just installed the new OS and Desktop Manager 4.2.2.14 with Media Manager and it recognizes my device!
I transferred a ringtone from my PC to my device and...YES...Viva La Vida plays!!!!
BUT, two images I transferred show up with a generic image thumbnail and the picture displayed is just a small red X in the upper left hand corner. Yet, when I highlight the folder in the device in Media Manager, the pictures display very clearly.
To also clarify, the pictures reside in MEDIA>PICTURES>DEVICE MEMORY
Under properties for the folder, the file path is - /Device Memory/home/user/pictures
The sizes of the pictures are 37KB and 65KB, hardly any different than the images in the Preloaded Pictures folder, which path is /Device Memory/samples/pictures
Is this a BB issue or Media Manager issue? As I said, the ringtone transferred and works, the images transferred and are listed, but don't display. Anyone have a solution to this problem?
I've reset the device by taking the battery out, etc. Nothing. Pictures still give me the red x.

DanOk, so this has been driving me nuts for such a long time. I did everything that anyone suggested and nothing worked. This included creating a new temp internet files folder, checking and unchecking all the appropriate boxes, creating a new profile, and
most other things suggested. Then I cam across something on a forum (sorry I don't know the link) that made me think. I looked through the reg to the key HKCU>Software>Microsoft>Office>15.0
(I use outlook 2013 but previous versions of office were there as well.)>Outlook>Security>OutlookSecureTempFolder. My setting was C:\Users\"USER"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\TIF\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\B5U77NH4\.
NOTE: TIF is where I chose to create the new Temporary Internet Files folder. Ur most likely will be different or not there at all!!!
What I realized was that the last folder in this setting was different that the actual folder on my harddrive. So I edited just the last folder B5U77NH4 to be the same as the folder on my HDD. WALA this worked and works great currently. All the other fixes
sometimes worked for a short while but always reverted back. I do have to say though that prior to doing this I went into Internet Options and deleted all the browsing history. EVERYTHING it sucked for freq visited websites but I wanted to start fresh.
Then I physically selected every item that was still in my Temp Internet files folder, even B5U77NH4 and manually deleted every item. That way any folder that was created dynamically would be gone. What was left and would not delete was B5U77NH4 so that is
the folder I chose to copy into the registry.

Media Managed projects audio i/o's have shifted
Trying to archive projects using Media Management has been enormously frustrating: crashing frequently, causing problems with hds being recognized, having to force quit on my mb pro.
Now I find that the projects have audio problems: the i/o's have shifted.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I guess a workaround would be to drag over the original audio, the files aren't that big, but all the effort I've put into MMing makes me think I should skip that process and just move all the original media used in the final sequence.
All the problems I'm having now have resurrected memories of a few years ago that I'd largely forgotten. These are the same problems that made me stop before.
FCP is a great app, but this part of it *****.This board is full of people that are update crazy...
even when they have perfectly good working systems.
i know i thought well it's just a security update not a major update.
Best advice... whenever updating the OS, unplug all
firewire devices.

Was this auto-update? Try downloading the file and
running the update again with all firewire devices
unplugged.
While the 828 is disconnected perform the factory
reset
again.
Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
-Press the Setup knob
-Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
-Press the Select knob
-Press the Value knob
-Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable
back
in
-Power the interface back on
i have the original 828 not mark 2, so no reset i know of, just power on off.
After the Mac updates... reboot and plugin the 828,
see if that doesn't get you going.

I need to know why the icon of an exclamation mark in a triangle pops up whenever I try to enlarge any photos on IPhoto 11. The thumbnails are all there but I cannot blow them up to full (or even half) size. It is driving me crazy so I woud apprecaite any help I can get.
I'll admit to being a complete luddite when it comes to computers (Mac or otherwise) so I'll thank any of you that help in advance for your patience!

AdrianThat means the file path or link to the original file has been broken. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I had this BIG problem for a while and it's really driving me crazy. Simply, I have a java application (it uses tomcat). The application is run through a batch file. Now my biggest problem is that I need to turn it into an NT service.
I were actually able to create a service to start the batch file (using AutoExNT.exe for Windows, that comes with the resource kit, I believe you know it). No how do I stop the server when the user stops the service, this is what I am troubled with.
I am open to any suggestions, I might even get rid of this autoexnt.exe solutions, please advise.

Samer Meqdad.The message is a generic message from Windows. It is very frequent since many NT services are just plain old Windows apps converted to a service but implementing only the minimum (start/stop) of the interface with the Service Manager. My guess is that the Tomcat NT service is one of those.
Fortunately, most of the times, the only reason why the Windows app would run and not the corresponding NT service is because of security issues coming from an incorrect configuration. So, you should try the following : Into the "Services" Control Panel, "Startup..." button for your Tomcat will display a dialog with the user account running the service. Try using your user account. If you're able to run Tomcat, the Service Manager should be able to run it on your behalf.
Another thing to try would be to use the Local System account with "allow service to interact with desktop" checked in case it wasn't. The reason is that normally services are designed to work without anybody logged in and no desktop where to create windows whereas most plain Windows app turned into services will create a window even if it's not visible nor absolutely required.
(I'm looking at a french NT, so, labels may differ slightly from my translation)

How to remove Adware that is driving me crazy?
I downloaded a movie player and ended up with some Adware that is driving me crazy! It opens a new tab with a random advertisement whenever I click on a 'submit' button or some other link. It's been happening on sites that did not normally exhibit this behavior in the past. The ads range from Mackeeper pro 2.0 to Sexy Latina girls. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to remove it? I'm using Safari 8.0 with Yosemite.
Yes, you have accidentally installed some sort of adware. The fastest, most effective way to identify and optionally remove all currently known adware is by using AdwareMedic, developed by thomas_r. this Forum's malware guru, owner of TheSafeMac and a colleague of mine.
If it turns out to be the Downlite adware, then they have managed to block your access to that site and you will need to use an alternate technique as described in About the Downlite adware.

"problem connecting to server" is driving me crazy!
First off, thank you in advance to anyone who helps me figure this out.
At one time, I had an HP MediaSmart Home Server named "baird" that my iMac connected to.
It died one day and now it seems everytime I try to open iPhoto, Aperture, or anything that makes a call to the media libraries, I get the dreaded:
I have to click OK about 40+ times for it to go away or close the application that triggers it.
I am guessing at one time I had a reference to some media on my home server but I can't find anywhere that I can remove it.
I have rebuilt my iPhoto and Aperature libraries to fix any broken links and still get the error.
I have no active share references to it in my Finder.
Does anyone have any clues how I can fix this? It's been going on for 3 months and driving me crazy!

Why is Media Manager doing this to me???
Hi,
I'm trying to get a sequence from DV-PAL to ProRes 422 using media manager but for some reason clips from one tape are being letterboxed in the conversion. It's driving me nuts!
So the original sequence is DV-PAL anamorphic, all clips are DV-PAL with Anamorphic checked. Everything comes through fine except for this one tape. I've created a separate sequence with just one clip from this tape and it always adds a letterbox to it!! If I choose DV-PAL as my destination it's fine but if I choose ProRes or Uncompressed it letterboxes it. I can't see any difference at all between this tape and the others.
Please help...Have you tried nesting the sequence before exporting?
also - why not export via compressor? -
When I download music into Itunes on my PC, every song is transferred into a specific playlist. Twice now when I have opened up Itunes, all the recent songs that have been moved into playlists have been deleted by Itunes. I now have to go back and figure out which songs are missing and re-add them. It is driving me crazy. I have 10,000 songs and now have no idea which ones are missing and which ones have been retained.

I have an 8700C. I installed Blackberry Desktop Manager V4.6.0.12 and I have V4.2.1.96 (Platform 2.3.0.79) OS installed on my device. When I go into the Media icon in Desktop Manager I have a split screen with Media Manager on the left and Blackberry Media Sync on the right. The Start button for Media Manager is grayed out. I installed Media Sync, was told to install iTunes, and then told my device is not supported for Media Sync. I have not been able to get Media manager to work since Desktop Manager version 4.1 or 4.2.

I would recommend doing a clean uninstall of the DN v.6 with Media Manager,using the following:

Reboot the PC, and download and install DM 4.6 without the media manager. If you search the forums you will see that media manager is not very stable. Personally I use the drag and drop method through Windows (must have media card installed,) very quick and efficient.
Media sync is compatible with your phone and can be downloaded as a separate program here:

Media sync does work well with your music management. However, Itunes with DRM are not able to be transferred to the Blackberry.

Media Manager does not appear on my second stb
I downloaded Verizon Media Manager and installed it without problems. When I checked my HD stb the program is listed and I could use it. I do not have any kind of recorder on the network. When I check my non HD stb the VMM does not appear. This is the unit I want to use as it will allow me to play music through the home theater sound system.
So, am I limited because I do not have a recorder or does the feature not work on non HD stb? If this is the case, I might as well delete the program from my PC.

Go to Solution.Hi. I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately at this time, the standard def STBs do not work with Media Manager. It doesn't have to be a DVR, but the stb has to be an HD box. If you do not wish to upgrade the STD box at this time and depending on your setup, you can always swap the STBs and move the media manager functionality to where you want it.
