Media manager error?

Hi folks:
I just used MM to make a copy of a project, so I could transfer it to my laptop and edit while on the road.
When I open the project in FCP, I get: "general error -41"
the project won't open, but everything else seems to work fine. How do I solve this? Just make a new copy of the project file?
Dual 2ghz G5, 1 gig ram   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   FCP 5.1 QT 7.1.3

The project file, and the media are on a portable 500 gig hard drive I connect to either the G5 or the laptop. Made the copy from the G5 XRaid to the Hard Drive. When I open the copied project using the G5, it opened up perfectly. From the laptop, general error -41

  • Media Manager Error Codes

Anyone happen to know where to get a list of Final Cut Pro's Media Manager error codes?
I've been recompressing footage to get it to work in Color (no idea what's wrong with the original footage, but this seemed to fix the problem) and every now and then one of the clips gives me an error code 20.
If I click "retry" in the resulting dialog box, it seems to just go along on it's way without any further problems, but I'm curious as to what exactly this error code is and if it has anything to do with the problems I've been having with Color.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, I think I have figured out what 20 and 34 are in my case anyway. My Story....
Had a hard drive die on me with my project on it, sent it off and got it recovered but when I got it back I have to put all the .mov, .jpg.. etc back onto the files. Well this caused me heaps of problems because FCP did not want to automatically reconnect my media even after copying and deleting the file extension. So I had to reconnect my media manually which was ok but big pain. Accidentally some files got reconnected on the time line to the wrong media with the .mov extension and other without files extension got reconnected to the bin. Error 34 is duplicate files with the same name, when it tried to compact the files regardless of the fact one had .mov and one did not the OS sees it as the same file and we all know you cant have the same file in a folder twice. I noticed also that 20 was the same problem but it happened when a video had unlinked audio. So I fixed it by reconnected all the files that had errors to the files that had no .mov.
Error 14 has to do with my .jpg not sure what but they don't worry me because I can just move and connected them manually.
    I hope this helps someone.
    cheers.

I have inserted a new tape so there is lot of space available on the tape. Tape is attached to the same box, so its only 1 box with admin, media and client roles.
The backup was working fine earlier on this box, this all started today itself and also the file system backup to tape using OSB is still working fine but not the RMAN backups, nobody changed anything in OSB or Database configurations.
Is it time to log the TAR or is there something else which I can check??
    Daljit Singh

Usually, that kind of error message indicates that the OSB user (with associated os privilege) does not have os privilege to access SCSI devices (ie tape devices). Believe it or not this is a common problem, especially, for the DBA user which os rights don't always include access to tape devices.
OSB will always adhere to os privileges soooo if the os blocks a user, OSB will also block that user.

  • RMAN not retrying on media manager errors

    Hi,
I'm using Oracle 10g, RMAN and TDPO (the TSM client for Oracle). I'm
trying to do a PITR to a non-production machine, but RMAN is intolerant
of any media manager problems that crop up, so things like this
ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text:
    ANS1017E (RC-50) Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
    and this
ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text:
ANS1314E (RC14) File data currently unavailable on server
result in an immediate 'failover to previous backup'. The first error
was caused by a transient network problem; I suspect the second was just
bad luck as the file was being reclaimed by the TSM server when TDPO
    asked for it.
Both these errors would have gone away if RMAN had tried again, so is
there any way I can tell it to retry on error? If not, is there
something else I could do to improve the situation?
    Thanks
    Sandeep

I think I fixed your error in your other post. If you search these forums though, you will find that the media manager is not held in "HIGH REGARD" by users of every type of OS.

  • Vcast media manager error

For some time now, several times a day I get the message "backup+media (process com.vcast media manager) has stopped error."  I looked at application settings but couldn't find anything useful to change.  How do I stop these messages, I don't use vcast! Tilly

    Hello,
Thank you Community Members for providing a troubleshooting tip. It is very much appreciated.  First, you want to make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements, which can be viewed at the link below:

Next, uninstall the VCAST application and reboot your computer.
Then, disable your firewall and antivirus program and download the VCAST Media Manager application again, which can be found at the web link below:

  • JDF Media Manager Error

I created a JDF/xml file in Acrobat Pro 9. Within the dialog called Media Manager > Media, within which it is possible to specify a number of parameters including the Thickness I am getting an error that says: "An error occurred saving /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/JDFProdDef/Media Items/Media.jdf" when I try to input a value. How do I fix this, this is a personal computer so I do not understand what the problem is.

You should not be able to write there, I think. Does it offer a choice of where to save?

  • Oversized Project - Media Manager Error

Hello, I have a 200MB project file and about 3TBs of source media.
The Project File size is scary since it takes forever to load, plus FCP6 unexpected quits a few times a day (working all day/night long).
I tried Media Manager for the first time yesterday and after analyzing my project, it says my current project and expected project size is unknown with a question mark. Maybe it's too big to calculate or something. I tried this on 2 different computers, first being my laptop, the second being a decked out 8-core tower. Same exact symptoms both times.
When I commit to my settings I get General Error 34 after a minute or two.
Can anyone recommend a next step for me. Searching Media Manager is overwhelming here.
    Thanks for your time
    -Monty

You've got to pare this down! FIRST THING, Make a copy of the project and put it away as an archive. Open the project. Go to the render manager and toss out all the render files, which you probably have TONS of, in old sequences etc. Next, start throwing out old sequences that you're sure you're done with. Remember that you can always open up the archive copy and get anything you might toss by accident.
Once you're down to a manageable size, THEN try media manager. I suspect you've basically paged out fcp. 200 mb is a pretty huge file size.

  • Media Manager error codes 14, 20, & 34

    Hi all,
Been trying to media manager some projects of mine, only on one of my projects I keep getting errors 14, 20 and 34.
Have tried researching what the errors mean and come up a blank, does anyone have some insight?
Also I think its time that apple and other software companies either produce a list of what the errors mean or have error message that mean something to us. What is the point of an error message if we cant find out what the error is. Anyway enough of my rantings.
    TIA

  • Media Manager - Error Code 34

I have a large project, and I want to reduce it with Media Manager.
I've selected 1 sequence, opened Media Manager and set it up to copy, deleting un-used media, using 2" handles, duplicating selected items & placing in a new project.
This goes all sweet except 1 clip on the timeline brings up "Error Code 34"
Can anyone help me get around this error?

I've been editing, not media managing.
Anyway. Within 20 minutes, I discovered a work-with (not a work-around). I thought I'd enrich the frustrated and curious masses (instead of trolling them, Studio X).
During Manage, if you request that FCP trim your managed clips, the file is copied and the file name is appended. If your filename is lengthy (try to remember the last time you worked with footage that didn't have a camera-generated or footage-log-generated name), Final Cut is unprepared with a solution and sh•ts its ridiculous bed. It will ask you if it should make a second absolutely futile attempt, abort the entire process, or skip ahead to see if it will trip on its lips trying to manage the next clip in the timeline.
If you choose to skip, your file is still copied and trimmed and placed in the Media folder at your specified destination. However, due to the fact that it is nearly as old as the Nirvana Nevermind baby, FCP won't connect the newly created clip to your managed timeline, nor will it add the appropriate .mov file extension in the Finder.
Your only burden now is to root through your Media folder, add the extensions to the skipped files and to manually reconnect the footage in your project.
At this rate I will suggest that it may be easier to become familiar with the following F, ⌘E, return process.
    1. Place the playhead on the first clip in your timeline.
    2. Press F. This will bring the clip with the current in and out points into the viewer.
    3. Press ⌘E and select a location to save the clip.
    4. Press Return.
    5. Repeat until all clips are accounted for in the save location.
    6. Export an XML of your sequence.
    7. Import the XML and reconnect the sequence footage to the new clips.
I hope this is helpful to anyone nutty enough to want to use FCP in the future. Thanks.

  • ROXIO MEDIA MANAGER - Desktop manager

Just got my Storm 9530! All is good except when installing Desktop Manager 4.7 the installation process stops when it tries to install Roxio Media Manger. near the end of the installation I get this window:
Roxio Media Manager Error 1402 Could not Open Key\comctlistview\ctrl1/clsid
    and it backs out
I have tried several times to remove and install with no success. I have closed Norton utilities and windows firewall still got the same message. The SYNC portion is installed anmd working, but not the Media manager, which means I can't download photos form my PC. I run XP.
I also removed and reinstalled with Bell's version of the SW. No success either!
Bell was no help and said it's not their problem!
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks much

Xandrex is correct. DTM can be installed without the Media portion and you can download media, photos, music ect, from your computer to the media card.
I don't give up easy and after being jerked around by Bell, I decided to see what Microsoft could do, since it looked to me like more of an OS problem.
Here is what MS came back with and it resolved the issue for me!
According to the error message, the most likely cause is that the current user account does not have the correct permissions to access related folders and registry keys.
I suggest we first try the steps below to reset the default permission on those folders and registry keys:
    1. Save the attachment of the email to your Desktop.
    2. Right click on the "Reset_subinacl.ZIP file" and choose "Extract"
    3. Follow the instructions to extract the files to your Desktop. There will be two files (reset.cmd and subinacl.exe) extracted.
    4. Double click the reset.cmd file
    5. You will see a DOS-like window processing.
Note: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished, you will receive a message stating "Finished, press any key to continue".
After the above steps are finished, let's try to install Desktop Manager 4.7 again.
If the issue still persist, we need to temporarily uninstall Norton program via Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and try again.
Your time and efforts are highly appreciated. Please take your time in trying my suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If you need any other assistance, please feel free to let me know and I will try my best to be of assistance.
I look forward to your reply.

I suggest that you contact MS yourself and get them to debug your problem. If you do by Email, it takes alittle longer but it's free!
BTW I verified the address and it's genuine MS Support.
    Good luck

  • Tutorial for solving some media manager problems

    Hey gang,
Hopefully me posting this isn't bad forum etiquette, but I recently published a tutorial that details some fixes and "best practices" for properly importing media and getting rid of some pesky media manager errors:
