Media Manager Grayed out in Desktop manager 4.7

Hi,
I have downloaded Desktop manager 4.7 with media manager and tried using it still i am getting inactiveed media manager.
please help

Just to make sure, did you all download the Desktop Manager that came with media manager?
Try going through the installation again but this time instead of choose the "Typical"  option choose the "Custom" one. When you get to the screen with the dropdown arrows in the middle make sure the Media Manager doesn't have an X next to it. Choose the option to run it from the computer.
Also if you're downloading the desktop software instead of double clicking on the EXE file, right click it and choose to "Extract To" to extract all the files to a folder. After this go into the folder the you extracted the files to and look for a folder called "SR_MM" and run the "Setup.exe" file - It will take approximately 15 minutes to install the media manager software.

  • Media Manager GRAYED OUT in Desktop Manager 4.6

I bought my first Blackberry, an 8320 Curve, a few weeks ago.  It came with Desktop Mgr 4.3 which didn't include Media Manager.  So when I bought and installed a 4 Gb expansion card in my Curve, I downloaded the 4.6 Desk Mgr update WITH Media Manager.
But when I click on Media Manager on the main screen,  I get a page divided in half, with Blackberry Media Sync on the righ, usable, and Media Manager on the left, all grayed out including its start button.
I installed the Blackberry Media sync, thinking this would give me access to Media Manager, but it didn't.  I've found a number of posts reporting this problem on the net, but no proper solution to it posted yet.
What am I doing wrong?  Thanks!!

I understand your frustration as I spent hours on this already.  I installed and uninstalled at least 5 times.  The solution is quite simple.  Once I got this working I didn't try the sequence in a different order which likely doesn't make a difference however this is what I did.
    1.  Uninstall the device software
    2.  Uninstall the desktop software
    3.  Log into the administrator account (not an account with admininstrator rights)
    4.  Install the device software (ensuring you have the media manager version which can be found on the blackberry.com website)
    5.  Install the desktop software and suddenly the media manager starts loading
I certainly hope this helps.  I'm certain the order of the installation is irrelevant and that the account being used to install the product is the issue.
    Good luck!

  • Desktop Manager - Reconcile Messages Grayed out....

Hi...I'm not able to configure my messages in the Synchronize tab because it is grayed out...any ideas what to do?  We've uninstalled and reinstalled the software, upgraded to 4.3 and its still grayed out...why? how can i fix this?  My previous blackberry had this function enabled. thanks

    Hi XENA0966,
We apologize that you're having continued difficulty finding a resolution to your problem. If you're willing to provide us with some additional information, we are collectively committed to do our very best to determine the root cause of this issue for you.
I'd like to step backward and confirm the options that you chose when you installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Is it correct to state that you chose to install as a user of 'BlackBerry Internet Service'? Are you familiar with how you installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager for your previous BlackBerry? Perhaps we can harvest some relevant information by investigating the installation of the software itself, as well as the options that were configured.
Can you also confirm that with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager opened to the default screen, you see 'Server Status: Online' in the bottom left-hand corner? Additionally, are you able to access other resources on your network when you are experiencing this problem? Do you know if you're working offline when this occurs? This question may be important because the option for reconciling messages (discounting certain configuration options chosen during the installation of BlackBerry Desktop Manager) requires connectivity to your mail system. If no such connectivity is available, the software disables the ability to configure that option.
It seems as though there is one problem here but that it may be exposing itself through multiple symptoms. If you're a BlackBerry Internet Service user, there are certain things that you should be able to do from the BlackBerry (such as enabling message reconciliation) and things that you will not be able to do. There are also things that you will be able to do in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and things that you will not be able to do, depending on this. The software on the desktop and on the device are designed to behave in a manner that suits the user type and back-end mail system. If we can clear some of the symptoms, through confirming your installation behavior and the settings on your BlackBerry, I expect that we can isolate the true problem.
    We look forward helping you.

  • Media Manager is faded out

I just installed the new 4.6 desktop software w/ Media Manager, but when i hook my phone up to my computer, open up desktop manager, and click on the Media Manager icon, the (left) "Media Manager" side is faded out and i cant click on the START button. What did i do wrong this time?? lol

Did you establish a usb connection to the BlackBerry first? Try hitting the word 'Options' in the upper right hand corner and choosing Connection Options. In the Connection Type change it to 'usb <pin>', then hit OK. A lot of the options will be grayed out unless you establish this connection first.

  • In the dialogue window of "Manage Search Engine List," the "Restore Defautls" button is grayed out!

    Hi,
    I use Firefox 6.0.1 on Windows 7.
I installed '''Free Desktop Clock 2.37''' from Drive Software, and then Firefox was hi-jacked, though I carefully chose the custom installaion.
Edit: Free Desktop Clock itself does not hi-jack Firefox. It's another program (name forgotten) bundled with Free Desktop Clock that did it, adding a toolbar, changing the homepage, changing the default search engine, etc. Actually, those forced alterations can be changed back easily, such as a resetting of the "keyword.url" pref. So, "hi-jack" may be a description that's too strong.
Anyway, I have managed to clean it up -- unsolicited toolbar, forced homepage, forced default search engine, etc.
But there is still one problem.
In the dialogue window of '''Manage Search Engine List''', which appears when you click the drop arrow on the left of the Search Bar and then click Manage Search Engines, the '''Restore Defaults''' button is disabled (grayed out).
How can that button be re-enabled?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Is Free Desktop Clock still listed? If not this may be because the listed search engines are the defaults, so there may be nothing to restore. If you manually added other search engines, you may have to reinstall those separately. • BB Desktop / Roxio Media Manager Problems

Seriously, how does anyone use this software?  I'm using the latest 4.7 version.  Connecting my Storm up to my PC (Windows Vista), the overall response time is so slow that it is almost painful to watch.  Issues -
    1. Checks for applications updates everytime I click on a function? Really? This just happened when I launched the application - why does it do it everytime I click on Add application, manage media, etc?
    2. Roxio Media Manager - this is about the most painful piece of software I've ever used.  Did anyone really QA this before shipping it?  Slow, slow, and slow.  No indication that it is doing anything after you click on an action. Half the time it doesn't do anything!  Moving media files, pictures, etc should take this long.  Even navigating the local file system shouldn't take 30 - 60 seconds to do.
BB - any updates coming?  It feels like this was rushed out before it was fully developed....

    Research shows:
    1.  (thanks to my friend John Clark for this instructional) To prevent this from happening this you need to install Desktop Manager WITHOUT this Automatic Update service. Below are the steps to remove this service.
    1. Go to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Click on "BlackBerry Desktop Software" and select "Change/Remove."
    3. When prompted, hit "Next" and then you should get options for Modify, Repair, or Remove. Choose "Modify."
    4. On DM 4.7 and higher, in the list of installed items, you should see "BlackBerry Automatic Update." Click the icon next to it and change it to "This feature will not be available." That should put an "X" next to "BlackBerry Automatic Update." If you are using DM 4.6 or lower and don't see this option in this list then just continue with the install and the installation will ask you a few screens later. A screen will be shown where you will be asked to check the boxes for:
    A) "Start BlackBerry Desktop Manager automatically each time the computer starts."
    B) "Create a shortcut for BlackBerry Desktop Manager on the Windows Desktop."
    C) "Check for software updates."
Be sure number 3, "Check for software updates," is NOT checked.
    2. Yes the Roxio software is buggy to me as well. I don't install it and life stays good. Use Mass Storage Mode enabled on your Media Card (Options > Media Card) and then you can drag/drop files from your PC to the Media Card as it will appear simply as a removable drive.

  • Desktop Manager 5.0 and Roxio Media Manager hangup

Ok, I spent an hour researching posts on the forum, and not gettting anywhere.
    Here is the specifics:
    New Laptop with Windows XP-SP3
New Install of BB Desktop Manager 500_B28_Multilanguage
I use Sync to update my address book via Ascii one way.
    Did that once.  No Problem
Restarted my Laptop.  Now I get Windows Installer looking for Roxio Media Manager.msi and now I can't get rid of it.
I hit cancel, and it comes back.
Only thing in Add/Remove programs is Desktop Manager 5.0 and Blackberry Media Sync
Try to remove either one and I get that "Installation in progress" message.
If there is a problem with 5.0 why is a newer version correcting it not out?
Several posts refer to doing a "Clean Uninstall" (KB02206) of Blackberry Desktop Software, Several posts refer to (KB19218) Windows Installer Cleanup.
Before I get started, Is there a real solution?  If I do the Clean Uninstall and then again install 500_B28 am I going to hang everytime I start the computer while Installer looks for Roxio?
    Would someone please help me.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Twas obivous that I was going to get NO HELP from RIM, so I called my IT Dept.
Here is what I did so far.
    Open Task Manager.
In Applications, right click on RMM install process.
Left click on Go to Process.
This step puts you on ISUSPM.exe
    Left Click on End Process.
    Click OK.
Go back to Task Manager, select Processes
    find misexec.exe
    Left Click on End Process.
    Click OK.
Go to Add / Remove programs
    Uninstall Blackberry Desktop Manager
Uninstall using REMOVE all User settings
after 15 minutes, it finally removed RMM also
I ran Windows Install Cleanup Utility (290301)
verified no Roxio programs or BB programs were on the computer
    and restarted.
    So Far, So Good.
Now I have to decide if I want to put BBDM on with or WITHOUT the MM.

  • Desktop Manager 5.0 / Roxio Media Manager Fail to Install

I am getting error 1904 module when trying to install Desktop Manager 5.0 (see errors below). I am the administrator on this laptop (hpdv8130us).
I have tried the solution where you create a reset.cmd via notepad. Result was the same.
Also, I tried a clean installation and still receive the same errors.
If I hit okay to the errors the next step is that it tries to install Roxio Media Manager and that hangs after the progress bar is complete (I let it sit for 4 hours). When I go to cancel Roxio Media Manger, it also hangs there as well. The only to get past this screen was to enter task manager and end the "dumprep.exe" process. While this gets me past the hangs/freezes, when I start DM5 it works but when I go to start Media Manager, it opens but doesn't load, the computer still runs albeit slowly because Roxio is now using 85-95% of system resources.
Running Windows XP with the latest service pack.
These are the errors I receive when trying to install Desktop Manager 5.0

Hello qwick and welcome to the forums!
It sounds to me like the installer is having trouble registering some required dlls.  This article might help you out with this issue.
Also, do you know if you already have any Roxio Media Managers installed on your computer?  Did you have a previous version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed and if so, did you uninstall it before installing this new one or install the new one without uninstalling the previous version?
hope to hear from you soon

  • ROXIO MEDIA MANAGER - Desktop manager

Just got my Storm 9530! All is good except when installing Desktop Manager 4.7 the installation process stops when it tries to install Roxio Media Manger. near the end of the installation I get this window:
Roxio Media Manager Error 1402 Could not Open Key\comctlistview\ctrl1/clsid
    and it backs out
I have tried several times to remove and install with no success. I have closed Norton utilities and windows firewall still got the same message. The SYNC portion is installed anmd working, but not the Media manager, which means I can't download photos form my PC. I run XP.
I also removed and reinstalled with Bell's version of the SW. No success either!
Bell was no help and said it's not their problem!
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks much
Message Edited by seafox on 03-13-2009 07:51 PM

Xandrex is correct. DTM can be installed without the Media portion and you can download media, photos, music ect, from your computer to the media card.
I don't give up easy and after being jerked around by Bell, I decided to see what Microsoft could do, since it looked to me like more of an OS problem.
Here is what MS came back with and it resolved the issue for me!
According to the error message, the most likely cause is that the current user account does not have the correct permissions to access related folders and registry keys.
I suggest we first try the steps below to reset the default permission on those folders and registry keys:
    1. Save the attachment of the email to your Desktop.
    2. Right click on the "Reset_subinacl.ZIP file" and choose "Extract"
    3. Follow the instructions to extract the files to your Desktop. There will be two files (reset.cmd and subinacl.exe) extracted.
    4. Double click the reset.cmd file
    5. You will see a DOS-like window processing.
Note: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished, you will receive a message stating "Finished, press any key to continue".
After the above steps are finished, let's try to install Desktop Manager 4.7 again.
If the issue still persist, we need to temporarily uninstall Norton program via Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and try again.
Your time and efforts are highly appreciated. Please take your time in trying my suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If you need any other assistance, please feel free to let me know and I will try my best to be of assistance.
I look forward to your reply.

I suggest that you contact MS yourself and get them to debug your problem. If you do by Email, it takes alittle longer but it's free!
BTW I verified the address and it's genuine MS Support.

Roxio media manager in BB Desktop Device Manager not recognizing/transfering to the device.
Read some threads. Managed a cumbersome workaround by using Roxio to take songs from CD and transfer to MP3 format. Then using Explorer to drop into media card. Spent hours trying to figure out. Since I'm not very tech savvy, REALLY appreciate your help. Because I can't get any files from my PC to work. How I can convert WMA. WPL XLS DOC files so my BB can read them? Also, anyone with general info as to why emails I send to myself take days to reach my BB Curve 8330 while other senders come thru quickly?

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager does not show Media Manager

First, let me say I am a NEW Blackberry user, my hubby and I both got new Blackberry Curves 8310 recently.
When I installed the disc that came with the phone, the Blackberry Desktop Manager does not have the "Media Manager" as one of the choices, as was shown on all of the booklets and tutorials. I even re-installed the program, thinking maybe it didn't download completely the first time, but it still comes up showing only these 4:
Synchronize, Backup & Restore, Application Loader, and Switch Device Wizard.......
All of the directions I've received show that I can easily add pictures and music simply by clicking on Media Manager, but it just isn't there.
Here is info about the installation disk that we received with our phones, supposedly the correct and latest versions . . ..
    Blackberry Desktop Manager
    version 4.3.0.17 (Nov.12 2007)

    Application Loader          Application Loader ..........4.3.0.13
                                         RIMProgram .....................1.0.0.35
Seriously, none of these really means a whole lot to me, I just want to click on something and have it work . . .  I did try to "upgrade" to a newer version, and I got the message that the version I had was the newer one, so now what?
I have memory cards inserted in the phone(s).
I will appreciate any help with this, I'm really frustrated. I figured out how to move files manually, but I don't understand why it isn't showing up as illustrated in the instruction manuals and online tutorials.

  • Tour 9630 won't work with Desktop Manager/Media Manager

Just got this BB from Verizon, everything works fine but when I plug it into my PC the Desktop Manager software is a mess.  I'm running Win XP.  I've double checked all the USB connections, uninstalled and reinstalled the the BB software and taken the BB battery out and put it back, so it's none of those things.  I brought the BB back to Verizon they said "it's working fine, must be a driver or something, duh".
When I plug in the BB and bring up Desktop Manager sometimes the BB is recognized sometimes not.  When I try to use the Roxio Media Manager it comes halfway up but the hourglass cursor never goes away and it just sits there thinking for hours.  Sometimes I get a pop up saying " First Time Configuration...., it won't let hit any of the choices, I just have the hourglass thinking.  I always have to hit Ctl, Alt, Del and call up my task manager to quite the program because the hourglass never turns back into the cursor.   I just want to manage my media.  This is very frustrating.

HI - I have the exact same problem as this post. Yes- i've uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop manager software- I plug in my BB tour 9630 and I get would you like MSP- I click yes and get nothing in the managerManger. No options. If I click NO the only thing I can do is back updata- No media downloads.
It was working fine until last Sunda and I've changed nothing on my laptop. The USG port works perfect and the cable is new.

  • Grayed out songs on iTunes despite "Manage music and videos manually" being checked.

I had to restore my iPod, and when I synced it after the restore, the songs were gone on my iPod like it is supposed to be, but on iTunes they are still there but grayed out. I have already done the "manage music and videos manually" thing, I delete all of the grayed out songs and try to add the songs from my library back to my iPod, but they are still grayed out. Please help if you can, I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't use manually manage so I'm at a loss as to why anyone would.
However, if I was Syncing my iPod to iTunes, then the picture you have posted would be just like that while iTunes was busy putting my music back onto my iPod. That's what the little double-arrow icon means; it's a list of files that you have asked to be put on the iPod (in my case, by Syncing the ticked items in my Library and in yours - apparently, by manually dragging them from the library to the iPod).
As each file is successfully added to the iPod, the progress arrows icon disappears and the song (file) name is no longer greyed out.
