Media Mismatch when relinking from Proxy to ProRes

Hello,
For some reason, when I relink identical ProRes Proxy and ProRes 422 files I occasionally get media mismatch start/end errors.
Does this make any sense? Is this even possible? They were generated with Compressor from the same exact source video.
Data is stored on a SAN, and ProRes and Proxy files have their own volumes. Could this be the issue?

Well, Compressor doesn't always carry over the same timecode information. That can lead to this. The best way is to use the MEDIA MANAGER to make the PROXY files. I guess that in your case most of them linked up, but only a few didn't? Any way to check and see if the timecode matches? You might have to manually cut in those few clips.

I am recording video from my Panasonic GS-180 camcorder using Quicktime Pro over a firewire cable, and the sound always gets off, eventually by more than 10 seconds. I have set the quality to "Device Native."

I doubt it will help, but you might try to do a fresh save on the video after fixing "timecode breaks" in the free MPEGStream app. Very nice application, and freely provided by an Italian video concern. It can also do batch mode, though maybe not for timecode break saves.
Ironic that video editing is made far more complete by adding this software to the more modest Mac arsenal.

Choose Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking

Is there a way to change the preference "Choose Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking" from scripting? This setting is accessible in the user interface ( in the Edit menu / Preferences / File Handling tab ).

Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro

Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro. I am queueing multiple files for export and Media Encoder will crash. The computer system has 32GB of RAM and the videos export fine in Premiere, but that requires exporting each one individually. Each video file is being down converted and some can be quite long (upwards of 3-5 hours). Nothing else is running on the computer that would take up memory.
Any idea why Media Encoder will crash?

"media server application expectly quit" when submitting from final cut pro

browsing through the list, it seems the problem couldn´t be solved so far.
doing some systematic testing, the following riddle shows up:
... when adding a QT ref movie (or movie) directly to the compressor batch list and submit to the cluster, everything runs fine.
... when exporting from final cut pro:
menu -> export -> using compressor ...
submitting in compressor using:
1) Cluster: this computer: everything keeps running fine.
2) Cluster: MylovelyCluster ....
the job fails with the message "Failed: HOST [clusternode_name.local] media server application unexpectedly quit"
since there is 5TB + of data to be compressed, copying files to the render nodes is not an option. all data is on a shared xraid, connected via giganet.
Any ideas, any hints appreciated !

shortly: when submitting from FCP, every node HAS to have FCP installed and MUST have access to the same relative file path (mounted shared volume). If the volume is not present, the render node will open the reconnect media dialogue and waits for user input.

FILE.IO.PERMISSION and SOCKET.PERMISSION when calling jdev proxy from DB

Hello everybody,
i deployed a webservide proxy (made in jdev 10.1.3.2) to an oracle 10gR2 database. Invoking this proxy works very well when calling it (as a procedure in the database) on the same machine as the DB is running.
But when trying to invoke the procedure remote on the DB-server from another pc i get 2 error messages (randomly):
java.security.AccessControlException: the Permission (java.net.SocketPermission 192.168.20.1:1521 connect,resolve) has not been granted to VECOZO. The PL/SQL to grant this is dbms_java.grant_permission( 'VECOZO', 'SYS:java.net.SocketPermission', '192.168.20.1:1521', 'connect,resolve' )

I gave this permissions in the sys schema to the vecozo schema following the example the error produces for me, but it doesnt work! When i grant socketpermissions on the port secified by the error and i run the proxy again the db comes up with the same error, only with a different port number. I'm getting crazy here. Also the granting of the file.io permission seems to have no result.
What is strange is that it all works when invoking the proxy locally (from the pc as where the db is running). I think this is because locally you dont need socketpermissions (as sockets are primarily for communication with other pc's). Furthermore i did not even grant the file permission when working locally in my testenvironmentand it all worked just fine. so i dont know why i suddenly need this permission when invoking the procedure on the productionserver from an external pc.
Can somebody plz help me with this????

How To Set Third Party Media App Is Default When Launched From Default File Manager

I use rock media player, which can encode & decode The Video and audio files i use, unlike the phone i have, i don't receive the option to set the app as the default media player. I would really like to be able to use this app on the thrive as it is some much a better media player than the thrives defaulty app. Rock player is the name of the app, who do set it as the default player when launched from the default file manager.

From my experience playing with the Thrive, when you attempt to watch a media file, it will open a menu asking you what application to use. From that popup, you can set a default.

HP LaserJet MFP M476dw paper size mismatch when copying or scanning from ADF

We have HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dw that has an issue when copying or scanning from the ADF.
Put a single A4 sheet in the ADF and choose copy, with all settings correct & no resizing, and the output copy is moved down the page (increased top marging by a couple of inches).
My initial thoughts were a paper size issue (e.g. treating A4 as Letter or vice versa) but all settings look correct. I have even done a reset and started over and the problem remains.
If I take the original and place it on the flatbed and copy from there with all the same settings then it works fine.
There is a similar issue when scanning from the ADF. Again, scanning from the flatbed works fine.
I've tried all I can think of. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Could it be a fault in the ADF?

Error when creating a Proxy Object from WSDL

Hi,
when creating a proxy object in abap based on the [WSDL|http://download.mapandguide.com/EN/dev/xserver/XLocate-1.6.0.3.wsdl] i get the error 'Incorrect value: Unknown Type Referencens0:ArrayOfString'.
1- Is there a conflict with the type 'String' that's also a type in ABAP

Understanding ProRes Proxy to ProRes

Trying to get my head around the proxy thing. In FCP X I have - create Optimized Media & Proxy Media Checked. So I am doing all my editing in Proxy right?
So now it come time to export my project. I use compressor and select ProRes 422 (regular quality) and it appears to work BUT takes 8 times the length of my clip to transcode! So it is basically taking the proxy, seeing what I've done to it and then adding those changes to what version of the clip? the ProRess Std verions?
Just wondering how Compressor / FCP X goes from a ProRes proxy version to a Std ProRes version or HQ or 444 version - what is actually happening?

Proxy media is a proxy to the original media. FCPX always retains the original media.
When you edit the proxy, the edit is only applied to the proxy data, not the originals. When you export (cmd-E), frame rate is set in the project, and the output quality (eg ProRes, ProResHQ, etc set in the export dialog box. The output file is created by re-applying the edits in the timeline by rendering those to the original media as per these settings.
If your original media was 720p60 H264 (from AVCHD ingest), for example, you could set the project to 30fps (730p30) and export to ProResHQ if you liked. This would require your Mac to decode the original, apply the changes, and recompress to ProResHQ. However long this takes is however long it takes. But your Mac will be 'snappy' while performing the edits, because the proxy file is small and low on CPU during edits.
If your mac is a little faster, and you're happy with standard ProRes quality, then creating optimised media on ingest will slow your mac down a bit, but exporting to standard ProRes will be much quicker, as clips, transitions can be rendered in the background while you fiddle around editing, and when you're ready to export most of the heavy work is already done, so it will be much quicker. But your Mac must be fast enough to edit in standard ProRes quality.

ITunes won't copy music files to Media folder when songs are dragged

I am trying add songs from my external hard drive to my iTunes Library.
I have the following options checked:
"Keep iTunes Media folder organized."
"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library."
In the past, I could just drag files from my hard drive into the iTunes song list and add them to the library. iTunes would successfully make a copy of the file to the iTunes Media folder so that I could disconnect the hard drive and still play the songs.
Suddenly, this no longer works. iTunes won't make a copy of the file anymore. It won't even make a copy of files located on my desktop.
I found a workaround -- copy the files from my hard drive to the desktop. Then I have to go to File > Add to Library in order for it to work.
It's an extra step, but it was VERY annoying to have to figure out.
So my question -- Is this an iTunes bug or some kind of deliberate attempt at making it hard to use files not purchased through iTunes?
I noticed this on one of the Apple support pages (my emphasis):

You can select these options on the Advanced pane of iTunes preferences:

Since it's all in one location, you can easily transfer or back up your media. When you purchase or import media into iTunes from a CD, it's automatically added to your iTunes Media folder. If you add media to iTunes another way (choosing "Add to library" from the File menu or by dragging an MP3 file into iTunes), it might not be added to your iTunes Media folder.
Well, why the heck not??

I have posted so many issues to APPLE on the staggering lack of basic functionality with itunes and each time they keep deleting it.
Automatically Addd feature does not work consistently if the library is on NAS or a drive not on the same bok as the Mac, iMac or PC.
iTuns will hang if you have the finder window open and the recently added playlist open
itunes will not add files automatically if more than three phases of adding folders to the automatically add to itune folder is refreshed
Once could even jump to the conclusion that the software testing and Quality Control in the iTunes development team had missed out whole chunks of tsting OR that the test designers wrote such basic test scripts which did not replicate real world useage.

Signed, cached JNLP applet doesn't start when updating from 1.6 to 1.7

Hi, yesterdays forced upgrade from Java6 to Java7 uncovered a nasty surprise for us:
We're running a game client through JNLP embedded in the browser using signed all-permission jars. The certificate is definitely valid and hasn't timed out.
When upgrading from 1.6 to 1.7 the applet won't start because of a supossed permission violation for the cached jars. Web start thinks that the jars in the cache are not signed (although they are).
Deleting the applet cache through the control panel, or deploying a new version of the applet both solves the problem as then the cached version will be overwritten with a newly downloaded version, and everything works fine from then on until switching back to 1.6 again.
Are 1.6 vs. 1.7 cached, signed jars not compatible? Something to do with pre-validation? Wouldn't it be a good idea to completely invalidate the applet cache in the JRE installer? Is this a bug on the JRE side, or are we somehow not using JNLP the right way (we're running the game for 2 years now, and a couple of million players have played the game since then on JRE6, so I assume we're using JNLP basically the right way).
Also, early JRE7 preview versions didn't seem to have this problem, I remember testing JRE7 intensively a few months back without any problems, however I'm not sure whether the cache remained intact when installing the preview JRE7 runtime.
Here are the console traces, please excuse the German, hopefully it's still clear what happens.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to completely invalidate the applet cache in the JRE installer?Yes, I guess it should be an option for user of the app on first start after upgrade, not for the JRE installer. There are many large applications that users would want to avoid re-download.
From the log, there is some hidden exception during first launch. The best way to proceed is to file a bug, including some guest/debugging access to the game.

When switching from one page to another, browser timeouts and have to refresh

I know I am antiquated, however, I have dial up still. I have never had this problem until recently. When going from one page (even in email) the browser does not load and I have to refresh or it will sit there giving no error and doing nothing. Resetting fire fox does not work.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.

Last night I tried to download an app over wi-fi onto my iPad Air, but the app did not install.
I have plenty of space (the app is 24.1mb, I have 3.4gb free space) and there are no restrictions whatsoever on my iPad - no blocks on App store purchases, no age-related restrictions, no country restrictions etc.
Normally from the App Store page you would tap the price (in this case the app was free), enter your iTunes password, and the app would download.
Also a new icon appears on the home screen and a circle shows the progress of the download.
However this did not happen.
Instead I have the Cloud icon (the one that shows when you have bought an app but it is not currently installed on your device) and a message that says "You've already purchased this, so it will be downloaded now at no additional cost".
If I press OK I am then prompted to enter my iTunes password, the Cloud symbol briefly changes to a circle (and I mean for a split-second, like the blink of an eye) and then the Cloud symbol appears again.
The app does not download - in fact it does not even *attempt* to download.
I have tried this >20 times now and it always occurs excatly like this.
After Googling this problem (which seems common) and reading over a dozen threads on this forum plus Apple's own official support pages, this is what I've tried:
I can re-download other apps that I have previously purchased on this iPad, with no problems.
I purchased another app on my iPhone 5 and was then able to download onto my iPad with no problems.
I have reset my iPad >5 times - both by pressing/holding the home/power buttons, and also a full switch off and restart.
I have logged out of my iTunes account on the iPad, and logged back in.
The wi-fi is Virgin Media fibre optic broadband with a verified speed of 20 meg (confirmed by Speedtest) plus an 802.11-n Belkin router and my iPad will happily load web pages, stream videos on YouTube, download other apps etc.
I have reset/rebooted my internet connection
In an attempt to eliminate by broadband connection from the possible causes, I have switched off my router, linked my iPad to the hotspot feature on my iPhone and tried to download the app over cellular data, but still cannot download the app.
I have tried on 2 other wi-fi networks but still cannot download this one app.
My iTunes account has a cerdit balance from an iTunes card, but the app was free anyway
Nothing I try will download the app in question.
The app is iPad only, so I cannot install on my iPhone to try and kick-start the process.
I guess I could install the app on my computer and then sync the iPad, but that's *working around* the problem - it's not *fixing* the problem.
(Since getting the iPad I use almost never use my computer. And anyway what if I did not have a computer? Didn't iOS go "PC-free" with version 5?)
I would like to call Apple but my 90-day telephone support has expired (the iPad is around 6 months old) and I don't want to buy Apple Care for this one problem.
I can't make it to an Apple Store to speak to a Genius.
Bearing in mind the list of things I've already tried, what do I do next?

No need to apologize, I actually found the phrase "If your iPad ever craps the bed" amusing under the circumstances
I checked the list of installed apps like you suggested (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps) but this problem app is not in the list. I have also swiped down on the home screen to search for it, but again it does not show.
While it has not let me download the app (and I just tried it again) it has helped me to eliminate a few things from the list of what to try, and I can definitely conclude that it has not downloaded.
I guess I need to fire up my PC and download it / sync my iPad.
