Media Off-line in PrE 12

On premiere elements 12, my videos in my existing projects has been replaced by the red screen "media off-line"
[Title edited for clarification of the problem - Hunt]

Have you moved or deleted or put in folders the source media after you saved closed these projects?
Can you still see the project's source media on the computer hard drive in their save location?
If so, what is that saved location...external hard drive or somewhere on the Local Disc C?
As suggested in Peru Bob's question, if external hard drive is the storage place for all your source media, has the drive letter changed since you saved/closed your projects?
By the way, what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on?
Looking forward to your follow up.
Thanks.

  • Whatdoes it mean when the project I open has a red screen with different languages, media off line?

I finished my movied. and then tried to move everything into a new file labeled TAJE files.  Now when I try to open the last version of the movie, I get nothing but 2 of the title clips and then every clip is a red one with different languages saying something about media off line?  I deleted old copies but thought that was ok?

Yes, if you have a completed DVD and just want to copy it then use disk burning software, not PRE. I use Nero and ImgBurn as my main burning applications - Nero is commercial, ImgBurn is free.
If you want to make extra copies over time you would be better to copy the VIDEO_TS folder from your DVD to your Hard Disk and then point ImgBurn at the folder.
For new projects requiring multiple DVDs to be burnt you would be better during Share to burn it to disk. Again, once it's there you can just point ImgBurn at it.

  • "media off-line" screen

When I opened my file (project)  all of the audio and video clips were replaced with "Media Off-Line" clip.  What's up?

Details, especially version of Premiere Elements, computer operating system, and etc are important.
Pending more information, you probably moved or deleted the source media that went into your project after you saved closed the project.
Another explanation is that you stored the project media on an external hard drive and, after you saved closed the project, something happened to the external hard drive (one example, drive letter changed).
Please check out the merits of the Project Archiver found under File Menu/Project Archiver with its Archiver and Copy options.

  • Red slide that says "Media off line."

When I work on a project and close it and then bring it back up again, the slides at the beginning of my project are gone and a red slide that says "media off line" in multiple languages comes up and my introductory slides are gone. Please help as this is getting really frustrating. Thank you.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
The colorful media offline display indicate a disconnect between the source media that you imported into a project and the project file.
When you import source media into a project, all you have in the project are copies of the originals. The project needs to trace back to
the originals at the hard drive save location where they were when imported into the project. If you move, delete, or rename files and folders
that went into the project after you saved closed the project, you will get those media offline displays.
Another way to run into this type of issue is if you store your source media on an external hard drive and the external hard drive malfunctions, sometimes
    changing drive letter.
The reconnects can be complicated and a major nuisance. They are typically done via making selections in the "Where is the file_____?" messages or using the Replace Footage feature.
Please review and consider and supply more details so that we can customize a reply for you to get to the solution.
    Thank you.

  • "media off line" message when logging

When I'm trying to log my footage and organize it in clips I run into few problems:
First - the media in / media out markers do not show the correct time code - how do I set it correctly?
Second - when I click "log clip" it shows as "media off line". All the footage is copied into my hard drive. Why does it give me that message?

Final Cut Pro works with QuickTime .mov files. It also accepts avi but it can be clunky.
If the files are already on your drive, simply import them into FCP. Click on one of the files in the Browser and press command and 9 keys. You can add logging notes in the window that just popped up. To make clips, you can add makers and name them. The captured file will now have a disclosure triangle next to it. Click it to see the individual pieces.
It would help to know which codec was used to make these files -avi is not a codec.
Look in the format section of the Item Properties window (command & 9 keys) what does it say next to Compressor?

  • Media Off-Line

I have read a few threads on the subject of people wanting to find media that went off line or what can be deleted with out harming the project. While all that was helpful, it did not answer all my questions. What I would like to know is if I have found the quicktime files how do I reopen them in Final Cut Express. I tried and it says the media is still off line. I am probably doing something wrong and would be very grateful for an easy step by step explanation.

I will tell you what I did.
I went to file reconnect media and choose one of the quicktime flies off of my scratch drive/disk and after that no errors popped up. However everything in my project still said media offline. So I dragged on of the clips onto the timeline and scrolled through it and the video played in the preview window. However everywhere else it said that the Media was offline even on the timeline while it was playing.
I don’t know if I am explaining this right.

  • Media off line in my canvas with a red back grownd

How can I get my video back on line?

Find the offending clip in FCP's Browser, control-click it,
    and select Reconnect Media....
When the window comes up, click Locate, then find your video.

  • Media Off Line in FCPX

I have an external drive that is connected to my computer, but when it is not connected the media is offline.  When I imported some of the clips the first time, it did not add the clips to the Event.  I have since imported other clips and it did bring them into the event.  Is there a way to import all of the offline clips to the event with out having to do the full import agian.  I have tagged the clips as favorites and keyworded many of them, and I dont want to have to do that all agian.  I also can not have the external drive hooked up all the time to the system.

Use the Organize Event function to copy the clips into the event.

  • PREL11 - Lost contact with my media - says "Media Off-line"

I used the trial and created a short movie. After a few days I bought the program. Now that original movie can't be seen on the timeline  - it has everything (blank clips, music, text etc) but the original vid/audio is just a thumbnail of "Media Offline",  I'm sure I did some folder moving and that's the reason - but I can't seem to find a way to get back to the original files..
    Dave

    Where are these media files?
It could be that you linked to them while they were still in the camcorder -- or to a memory card in a media slot or to an external drive -- which you've since disconnected from your computer.
You need to have the media files continually accessible to the program as you edit. You can't just connect the camcorder or a hard drive, for instance, add links to your project and then disconnect the device from your computer.
    EDIT
Yes, changing folder names or moving your files will also break the links. You need to relink your media files to your project using the prompt that pops up when you open your project.

  • Reconnect with changed off-line media path

Hi.  I've had my catalogued images on a network drive for several years.  Recently had a major failure and re-built the drive, re-loaded from backup etc.
Unfortunately, since the overall requirements for the drive had changed over the years, when re-building I didn't re-create exactly the same folder tree as before.  While all my images are there (30,000+) and in the same relative tree as when they were catalogued, they are one level higher in the overall tree.  As a result, the catalog (PSE7) doesn't marry up with the path to the folders and Organizer displays a red 'off-line' media icon for every single image.  (None of the images is marked as needing to be re-connected since Organizer thinks the problem is the media being off-line rather than it being on-line but with a different path.)
With this many images, re-cataloguing the images isn't a realistic option.  What can I do to get Organizer to recognise the drive is not off-line media and that the images are all there but on a different path ?
    Thanks for any help.

To cut a long story short ... the original network drive was a Maxtor in RAID1.  When one of its HDD died, it instantly became unbootable.  Support told me there were no user replaceable drives inside and that as it was out of warranty to throw it away !   What's the point of RAID1 if you have to do that ?
Instead I downloaded hacked firmware and rebuilt with two new HDDs, then re-loaded from a USB back-up drive.  Had been running fine again since.  But its NAS functionality is limited compared to modern devices and I wasn't prepared to repeat the exercise when a HDD died again.  So I bought a new NAS, moved the HDDs into it, re-formatted, and re-loaded my Catalog from the USB drive again (ie. not from the re-built drive but from a backup taken before it failed).  Downtime for the whole thing was about a fortnight which I could cope with.  But the new NAS has different reserved share-names (as well as a different volume #) so I couldn't use the original names that are in the Catalog and anyway I wanted to split the data between more than one share to exploit the additional functionality.  So when re-loading I put the images into a folder tree starting at the share-name root rather than one level lower.  I expected to have to do a lot of "re-connect missing file" operations.
Instead I found that Organizer doesn't think they are disconnected, but off-line, so doesn't allow you to try re-connecting them.  Starting over with the missing tree level re-inserted isn't an option because I can't create the same root share-names on the new NAS anyway, and its volume # will still be different.  What looks to be needed is a way to get Organizer to accept the folders are online and allow me to re-connect the images, as if everything had happened on a local drive, not a network drive.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

  • Removal of the Media is Off Line slide

How do I remove the red slide that says "Media is off line." It is showing up at the beginning of my project and I have tried everything I know of to remove it. I have tried cutting it, removing the slides in front of it, etc. Please help as I do not want that to be at the beginning of my video. Thank you.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
The Media Offline display typically indicates that the original file has been disconnected from the project. When you import media into a project, all you get are copies of the originals. And, those copies need to trace back to the originals at the hard drive save location where they were when they were first imported into the project.
When you open the project, do you get a "Where is the file.....?" message related to this file that is supposed to be at the beginning of the project's Timeline?
What is the name of the file for which it is asking - the missing file name should be at the top of the message?
Let us say that you click Skip All to the "Where is the file....?" messages and find yourself in the opened project with your colorful Media Offline slide.
    Are you saying that
    a. you cannot right click it on the Timeline and select delete to delete it?
    b. if you go to the project media area, can you right click its thumbnail there and select delete...that should delete it from the project media area
as well as from the Timeline?
Let us stop here so that we can get in sync on the basic details of your situation and then we can better decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Pre-shared Key Off-line Bruteforcing Using IKE Aggressive Mode

Hi, I have 10 site-to-site VPN's, they consist of Cisco 837's and 877's. I run a security scan (Qualys vulnerability scanning) against the public IP of the routers and half of them come back with the vulnerability below. They are all using the latest IOS and all connect to a Cisco Concentrator.
Here is the vulnerability, that means nothing to me, is it anything to worry about, all pre-shared keys are 8 characters or more and have letters, numbers, and symbols and capital letters:
Pre-shared Key Off-line Bruteforcing Using IKE Aggressive Mode
    THREAT:
IKE is used during Phase 1 and Phase 2 of establishing an IPSec connection. Phase 1 is where the two ISAKMP peers establish a secure, authenticated channel with which to communicate. Every participant in IKE must possess a key which may be either pre-shared (PSK) or a public key. There are inherent risks to configurations that use pre-shared keys which are exaggerated when Aggressive Mode is used.
    IMPACT:
Using Aggressive Mode with pre-shared keys is the least secure option. In this particular scenario, it is possible for an attacker to gather all necessary information in order to mount an off-line dictionary (brute force) attack on the pre-shared keys. For more information about this type of attack, visit http://www.ima.umn.edu/~pliam/xauth/.
    SOLUTION:
IKE Aggressive mode with pre-shared keys should be avoided where possible. Otherwise a strong pre-shared key should be chosen.
Note that this attack method has been known and discussed within the IETF IPSec Working Group. The risk was considered as acceptable. For more information on this, visit http://www.vpnc.org/ietf-ipsec/99.ipsec/thrd2.html#01451.

The description of the vulnerability specifies IKE aggressive mode. So my first question would be whether you are using IKE in aggressive mode or in main mode? In my experience most router based site to site VPN use main mode (though aggressive mode is an option) while many Remote Access VPN use aggressive mode. So which mode are you using?
The second part of my response goes back to what I said in my earlier response. What kind of key are you using? How long is it and how strong is it? When you think about it any time we authenticate using shared keys there is some degree of vulnerability to brute force attack. The longer the key and the stronger the key the more you have mitigated the risk.

  • The document "BOULET PEANUT - OFF LINE 3-QuickTime H.264.mov" could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-101)

I turned on my mac this morning after using Qt all day yesterday with no problems
    I get this message
The document “BOULET PEANUT - OFF LINE 3-QuickTime H.264.mov” could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-101)
Also QT will not play the audio of the files
    I'm on a mac pro, 10.7.4
    Everything updated
Any know whats up and can help solve this, it seems to be a software related problem to QT 7 or X

Exactly the same by my iMac.
"The document ... could not be opened. An error occurred (-101)"
I can play the same video with VLC player but not with QuickTime.
QuickTime and iTune can not play anything at all.
VLC Player however can play all medias without any problem.
    All my apps are uptodate.
    What could be the problem?

  • Merged Clips Appear Off Line Yet Are Successfully Linked In CS 5.5

Hi there. I just migrated a feature documentary from an edit suite in a local production company to my home. We're using Adobe Production Premium CS 5.5, I tried to migrate the project using the Project Manager function of premiere. But no matter what combination of options I tried it failed everytime. Huge pain!
Anyway, the whole thing is nearly up and running again - but there is a problem with some of the merged clips. We were shooting on DSLRs, with a Zoom H4N dual audio system. Dual Eyes was then used to synch the clips. Which were then merged with the relevant video files in the various relevant bins.
Here lies the problem, obviously I had to go and relink all the media files. Grand job. Thought I was all done but then I noticed, that when I was linking "merged clips" they weren't coming up properly in the sequences. Like, they were there in the bins. They would appear if double clicked in the source monitor. You could even do an old "in and out" and drag your selection into the sequence, and all the extra Dual Eyes audio synchs would be there and ready for use. But, the ones that were already in the time line were not picking up anything, they were just off line.
I find this stuff hard to explain so attached is a screen grab and some explanation below.
A - Shows the panels with the media successfully linked.
B - Shows it double clicked and opened in the source monitor.
C - Shows where it should be in the time line. But its not linking.

Just tried moving the source files and relinking - no luck what so ever.
    Any other ideas?

  • LR Off-line DVD Storage - Any Thoughts on How to do

After time passes, I like to move raw files from my hard drive to a DVD. I want to continue to keep these raw files that have been moved to the DVD as part of my LR catalog, including their thumbnail image. This way I can easily locate raw files stored off-line on a DVD. So far my solution is to take all of the files that I will be moving to a DVD, add them to a child-collection called for example DVD-32 (parent collection is called DVDs-RAW Files). I also, select all of the files and add the keyword, in this example 32. Then I copy these files to the DVD-32, delete them from the hard drive. The folder(s) shows as red in the LR library folders. Each files thumbnail is still retained. When I select a file, I know what DVD it is stored on by looking at the keyword. The reason I created the collection of files on a DVD is to provide an easy way to know what files are on a particular DVD. This is a more cumbersome process than what I did using IMatch, which was designed to catalog off-line files. I wonder if there is a simpler way to do this in LR.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Also there are some pretty worrying reports about DVD and CD reliability unless you use the Gold Archive disks [that I use, but I no longer archive to DVD or CD].
I now use a grandfather, father, son backup/archive method with grandfather, father in my safe deposit box. When I feel enough changes have been made, I put son in SD box and bring out GF, reformat, check for errors, and do a backup to set the new baseline.
I check my HDs for errors frequently.
I only lost data once, that was when I was replicating deletes and my main HD got corrupted and I transferred those deletes to my backup. I like being able to "look" at my backup/archive files.
People may say that I should still archive to optical media, but to me it is no more safe than my method. I would have to constantly re-read my optical disks to make sure they were not failing.
Also, I expect to pass the 20,000 file mark this year and that is about 25 DVDs [expect 95 GB or so] and making sure they are good looks daunting. Maybe when/if the blue ray technology arrives with appropriate archive/validation s/w I will change my mind.
Meanwhile, I am looking at ads for 500 GB HDs :-)
    Mel
