Media Offline after Rendering

Been having an issue with multiple computers using Creative Cloud. After rendering the project all the media goes offline. I have to restart Premiere to get media back.
Any thoughts?

Hi Jonathon_H,
Thanks for all the information.
As you mentioned that it is not happening after the update but in case if it happens again, try to clean the media cache files which are situated on the below location:
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache" and "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files".
Please update if all goes well.
Happy Editing!!

  • Getting "Media Offline" After Archived Project to HDD to Another Computer

    Hello,
How do you avoid getting media offline when transferring a project to another computer's C drive?
I use PrE9 and decided to transfer my project to another computer for performance purposes. I archived the project (copy, not trim) to an external hard drive first, making sure to synchronize the drive letters of the HDD in both old/new computers beforehand. Working from the external drive is fine -- no media offline issues -- but I wanted to transfer the archived project to my new computer's C drive. After doing so, the project is now riddled with media offline messages. I'd rather not deal with the clips individually as there are too many.
What step(s) am I missing? I'm sure it's easy, but this amateur has a lot to learn.

Well, when one changes the drive letter (or any part of the Absolute Path) with linked media, the first time that the Project has been Opened, those links will be broken. PrE should give you the dialog screen, asking "Where is file ____ ?" This article goes into much more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/990503?tstart=0
There are also some tid-bits in these articles, that might be helpful:

  • Error code 6 & media offline & after effect warning errors.

Increasingly I am getting the attached error messages when I try to open files. (mostly .psd and .ind files)
1.) It often says I don’t have permission to open the file, it is not the right type of file, or the file doesn’t exist... none of which are true.
The files always work if I copy them locally and open them from my harddrive.
    2.) "media offline" error.
    3.) after effects warning error.
    Help needed. Thx.

    Hi Saif,
You might get several issues, if you are directly opening files from the server or a network location, to your machine and editing them. You might also get issue while saving then to the server. I think your issue is one of them.
This is because, several thing comes into picture while you are opening, editing, saving files over the network. You may face some network issues, firewall issues and mostly permissions issues.
So, adobe always recommends to save the file locally on the machine first and then perform editting and saving operations. once you are done, you can copy it to the network.
Check the below article just for reference.

  • Media offline after sending back from color

Ok. I have searched around and not finding anything offhand, but I have not changed any default settings but I am getting media offline when I import back to FCP. I can find the location of the files and all but its giving me a hard time bringing media online.

I dragged and drop the file that came back from color.
Dragged and dropped? There is nothing to drag and drop. You SEND TO FCP from Color, then in FCP a new sequence shows up. Double click on that.
But I might be getting into semantics...you might be doing that but not explaining it well.

If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.

  • Media offline after log and capture HELP!!!!

    hi,
i am capturing media from my camera from dv tape into FCP,
i log and capture the footage and all seems fine, i've done this hundreds of times before.
today however when i log and capture the file comes up as media offline (file logo with red line through it) in the browser window, i need to get this file done asap!! HELP!!
Message was edited by: Modern Video

i have a deck and i've tried coming from the deck, but its giving me fallout due to deck issues i have, so i'm coming from the camera. when i log and cap i get the file with the red line.
when i try to reconnect it to a file all i have in the capture scratch folder is the bad file from the deck.
so i cant reconnect the media from what i have captured already.
so essentially my problem is that from my camera, i log and capture and get a file that does not go into capture scratch and yet still comes up as an unconnected media file in the browser!!??

  • Media offline after inserting a fresh new clip...

    Hi,
I've been trying to insert some .mpg files into my project, but everytime I import them and drag them to the timeline, it just shows a red "Media content offline". Anyone knows why? It's not some link that got lost, it happens just after importing the files. Maybe it's the file format?...
    Thanks!
    Tiago

The MPEG importer can be flaky at times. Try selecting the clip, right-clicking, and selecting "Link Media." Navigate to the same file, and select it and hit OK. This usually makes the MPEG clip stick; I don't know why it won't the first time.

  • Media pending after rendered

I rendered some footage and since then certain clips on my time line keep coming up with media pending - does anyone know why this is happening, I cant view my full time line because of this

More has been made on less. Doubling the RAM and adding a RAIDed Thunderbolt drive (if you have the connections) would go some way to speeding up performance, but there are lots of workspace efficiencies within After Effects to speed things up as well.
I'd say go AE all the way - it's far more efficient for what you're trying to achieve. It has a wireframe mode, so once you sort your clips you can build up a frame that way, previewing it regularly to check on progress. Quality can be set to 1/4 or 1/8, which helps. Video can be set to draft quality, which also helps. And once you're happy with sections you can precomp them and switch them off, speeding things up as well.
Premiere is a bit of a blunt tool once you're dealing with dozens of layers. It is neither efficient or easy to work with, because it isn't really designed for this sort of work. After Effecs on the other hand is a Swiss army knife - versatile, open ended, (relatively) optimised, and offering you several ways to accomplish everything. It'd be perfect for your art. Good luck and just think of it as Photoshop with a timeline. (Oh wait, it has one of those now too, doesn't it.) I've had comps with dozens of live video frames or several hundred large photoshop images (>1000px) and AE didn't break too much of a sweat. That was years ago on specs similar to what you're quoting too.

  • Media Offline After Restarting

I rebooted my computer and when I came back to my PremierePro project the Media was offline. The video appears in the viewer as "Media Pending", but it never loads in. In the project assets window, there is a question mark icon next to each media clip.
I didn't move the source files, nor delete them. It appears PremierePro has lost reference to them, that the index file is broken. I made a New project and the media load just fine and I can edit  them.
How do I fix this? I need the edits in this project file, it will take me a long time to re-edit them if I can't get them to load in the original file.
Help me ObiWan, you're my only hope!

As I edit, I will do a Save_As, along the way, incrementing my Project's name, with say the addition of "001," "002," etc.. At the end of the day, I then do a Save_As_a_Copy, as Jim suggests. That is my "fail-safe," incase things go wrong.
The difference between the two is basically what happens with that Saved Project. Save_As, will do just that, and with an incremented, or changed name, and then keep THAT Project Open. Save_As_a_Copy will do a Copy, where you direct the program to write it, with any name that you choose, but will NOT keep that Copy Open.
This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3392837#3392837
I use a combo of Save, Save_As and Save_As_a_Copy, at different stages in my editing, plus also keep the AutoSaves, just in case. With Save_As and Save_As_a_Copy, there will be a new set of AutoSaves created in the folder structure of the "new" Saved Projects. Those can be handy, just in case something goes terribly wrong.
    Good luck,

  • Media Offline after Crash

After an unespected quit some clips appeared offline.
If I clic "reveal in finder" the clip is there and opens fine in the QT player.
FCPX clip info says that the file was modified and asks me to connect the drive with the original file.
The worst thing is that the event for that clip was not in use nor the project containing the clip. So FCPX crashed and then I got a corrupted something that is not related in any way with the event and project I was working on. Bizarrous!

I dragged and drop the file that came back from color.

  • Error Message for "Media Pending" or "Media Offline"

    This is INCREDIBLY frustrating.
It is my job at a church to produce broadcast-quality segments for our local tv stations for 28 minute slots. I am working with HD-quality videos, bumpers, audio files, etc. It takes my PC about 30 minutes to render each segment and I work with about 4 segments a week. Add that up, and it takes me two straight hours to render each finished product (not counting any edit work), all which have to be done in a day because we broadcast most of the stuff that happens on Sunday the following Tuesday.
That said, I render the final product, after everything has been through quality-control, through encoder because of the FTP option. When I leave every Monday afternoon, I start the queue for the four segments, which, in turn, will spit out the product and FTP it to our server at the tv stations.
But when I come in Tuesday morning and find that AME has rendered four USELESS videos because, instead of informing me when I started the queue there was something wrong with fetching the video files, it decided to render some stupid stock frame of either, "Media Pending" or "Media Offline" - which makes ABSOLUTLY NO sense, for when I open premiere or after effects, it renders quite fine through AME. You can't sit here and tell me that the rendering software requires the project to be open in Premiere or AE. That would be counter productive and impossible for anyone batch-rendering.
Here is what I need: Just a simple, "Hello, there was something wrong with fetching all of the media files in your project (blank, blank, blank) - please check your project file."
    Thanks!

However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Some images in timeline are white, with "media offline" message in canvas

I am making a short movie of images taken on my Canon powershot S5 camera. I am importing photos and movie clips from this digital still camera. They appeared correctly on the timeline at first. I rendered them and they played fine on the canvas. Then after saving project and opening later, some of the images appeared white with the "media offline" message in the canvas. I tried locating a few of them and reconnecting which solved the problem. However, strange things are happening: when I click on the white images they turn black but still play OK. Also some of the pale blue images have the "media offline" message, others do not, or the same sequence in an earlier saved version plays with no problem.
If I burn a DVD of this movie (so far incomplete) will it look OK if all appears well in the canvas, regardless of the colour of the clips in the timeline, or should I take some action first to "clean up' the timeline before proceeding? In other words, is the image in the canvas a true representation of how the final project will look?
I would appreciate some advice please as I am a bit confused by this. Thank you. Keith

    JPEG photos don't need converting.
In FCE simply select File>Import and navigate to your photos.
Have you trashed your Thumbnail Cache folder yet as that will probably cure it?
They can be in a couple of places. By default FCE puts one lot in User>Documents>Final Cut Express Documents.
If you have specified an external scratch disk they will also be there, so look in FCE>System Settings>Scratch Disks to find out where you put them.
Once trashed, on relaunching FCE new ones are created.

  • Media Offline AGAIN

I am running Premiere CS4 for Mac. This is the third major crash I've had, and I've only just recently had this software. I don't understand how software this expensive can cause so much grief.
Like before, I was importing an .mov (just rendered from after effects), and I got the message that the width/height was too large. So I "saved as" just in case. Of course, when I opened the project again, everything was red screened.
The first time I was red screened, I started a new project and imported my old project. This time it didn't work, it's still red screened.
Not only that, since I had the last crash, I have been "Saving As" at the end of every day. But for some reason every single one of my save files is made  entirely of "Media Offline" messages, and this includes all of the automatic backups. The only media that's working are aeps.
What is going on? And how can I fix this?

I am no expert but I have a couple of questions for you.
I assume that this “Red Screen” is the windows equivalent to the “blue screen of death?”
When you do the “save as” does the file go in the same location as the one you were working on or do you have to move it there?
    Please read this.
You might want to give the full specs of your computer, your Project and the Assets used in that Project. More details will be better.

  • Media offline and loss of effects and transitions

    Hello,
I have been using Premier Pro CS3 for a couple of years with an XP operating system.  Most of the time I haven't had to many unusual things happening.  But recently I have done some major projects and after I rendered them and then closed Premiere Pro and opened it the next day, nothing is rendered and the tranistions and any effects I may have added are no longer there and in some cases I see the "media offline" screen.  I did find a work around thru the internet and some forums and that was to select all the files and move them a few frames then move them back.  Everything works fine then except now I have to render everything again.  My question is I recently started capturing using the detect scenes and I end up with quite a few clips whereas before I would just make one clip and cut out the sections I need.  All the files are on my harddrive on the computer nothing external.  Is it because I'm using detect scenes and I have so many short clips and that's the reason I have to move all the files and re-render.  I called Adobe and they wouldn't give me any answers as I'm using CS3 they kept telling me to upgrade to CS5.  Anyone have this type of problem and if so is there something I can do other than move all the clips and re-render?  It makes me very nervous to be moving all the clips and put them back even if it's only a couple of frames. Any help would be appreciated.  I do plan to upgrade to CS4 but want to know if I should quit using the detect scenes option when capturing.  The only thing I do, do is to put all the clips into seperate bins in the project window.  Thank you in advance for any help

something in the original project you created and the media you imported is saying, " The stuff is located HERE...and it's not finding the stuff THERE...." or you actually chose to use the media offline ( unlikely ).
You did SOMETHING somewhere along the way to confuse the program about where the stuff is located....
I don't use CS3 to capture stuff but use ScLive ( for sd work , not hd ) , and it is set up to make a clip for every time it sees the timecode indicate the camera was shut off and turned on ( scene detect on )....
That gives me a lot of clips in the folder I selected to capture to.
When I import those clips to a project ( usually in the same folder structure so I dont get confused where things are )..I then LEAVE the assets there and dont move them ....or the program won't be able to find them properly ( the link is lost if you move the stuff )...and it then is either prompting me where it is or it is seen as offline ( If I choose to ignore prompt to find it )...
    hope this helps

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
What are you (manually) or the project (automatically) setting as the project preset?
(See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size,
and Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if fields look grayed out).
What are the properties of these source media, including file extension? The brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the
video may give us this information.
When the source media hit the Timeline for the first time, is there an orange line over their content? Or is there
no colored line and an orange line appears over them only after you have edited them?
Please elaborate on "poof" after rendering the Timeline content by pressing the Render button above the Timeline content with the orange line over it.
