Media Offline from a USB

I have uploaded some pictures in jpeg format from a usb to a final cut project. Everything is working fine, I had saved it an everything then, my unreliable usb, was bumped and was disconnected. The pictures in my timeline now say media offline and the pictures in the browser have media offline with a line through them. What do I do??

Files in FCE simply "point" to the originals where you imported them. So your photos are simply "pointers" to your original USB drive. What do you mean "was bumped and disconnected"?
If you can reattach your drive, do so and open up final cut. Right-click on one of the "media-offline" files, and choose reconnect media. Then locate where on your drive the files are using the FCE Reconnect window, and you should be fine.
P.S. You should only have to point to one photo in the Reconnect window and FCE will find them all, provided they are in the same place.

  • Running a boxee media server from a usb drive

I'm replacing my current boxee server with a little ion nettop.  It will have an atom 330, ion graphics and 2gb ram.  Instead of putting a hard drive in it, I want to use a usb drive with a persistent linux install to run the OS.  For the sake of minimizing noise, heat, power consumption...  I'm thinking of using one of the lightweight ubuntu variants or ubuntu minimal, mainly because boxee works best in ubuntu.  I'm also toying with using arch since boxee-source is available in AUR.
Will running it from a usb drive cause me any issues?
All the media will be stored on an external hard drive or streamed over my network/internet.  Theoretically, it shouldn't be doing a done of reading/writing to the flash drive correct?  Shouldn't everything be loaded into ram?
Thanks.  Just trying to get a some opinions of people smarter than me before I go through with this.

    Network boot?
I only throw this out there because when my father finally upgrades his TV I'll pitch in a lightweight build so he can stream media from my system instead of asking me "hey can I get some new movies on my usb drive" to watch on his laptop. I had been toying around with the idea of doing a network boot so I can more easily manage the upgrades/system from my end... rather than taking the twenty steps to the living room with a keyboard.  Additionally, the very same reasons you put forward were also considerations of mine. I also considered a USB boot drive, but concern about the longevity of such a solution led me to consider the PXE solution.
(plus since I know next to nothing about setting up such a system it would be an excellent opportunity to learn)

  • I have PR cs6 and my mac has recently upgraded itself from iPhoto where i imported all my photos and film from to "photos" now all of my current project is showing 'media offline' AAAAARGGGH!! now i can't see anything. the audio is fine but everything els

can anyone help me get all of my edited holiday video visible again? my mac upgraded itself from iPhoto where i keep my imported video and photos, to "photo" now all of my current project (and probably old ones as well! ) are showing media offline. how can i get this back seeing the clips on 'photo'?

When you open a project you need to point PPro to the new media location and relink

THAT is not good... I am Windows, but at least a Windows update gives ME the option of unchecking an update

  • Media offline after sending back from color

Ok. I have searched around and not finding anything offhand, but I have not changed any default settings but I am getting media offline when I import back to FCP. I can find the location of the files and all but its giving me a hard time bringing media online.

I dragged and drop the file that came back from color.
Dragged and dropped? There is nothing to drag and drop. You SEND TO FCP from Color, then in FCP a new sequence shows up. Double click on that.
But I might be getting into semantics...you might be doing that but not explaining it well.

If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

  • Media Offline when Exporting back to FCP from STP. Lesson 10 in APTS book.

Hello, I am going through the Apple Pro Training Series Book by Martin Sitter found a road block in Lesson 10. The topic is conforming at that seems to work decently (except for garbled text in the right side of the Conform tab). My issue is when trying to export back to FCP. I choose to Send Files to FCP sequence. A new sequence is created in the selected project as expected. The audio is fine, but instead of using the video from the correct sequence, it seems to be trying to use clips from the older sequence. Additionally, all the video clips show up as Media Offline. I can reconnect media, but the problem is that it is the wrong video sequence. Oddly, in STP the video looks perfect. Is there an error in the metadata? can this be fixed or prevented? Thank you

    Barreltone,
I am exporting back into Final Cut Pro via Send to Sequence. I have been exporting from the browser of FCP (sequence), and not the timeline (clips). I'm going to try that tactic, and see if that works.

  • Exporting from Prem CS6 through Media Encoder CS6 gives 'media offline' frames

    Hi
I'm having problems with Prem and Media Encoder.
If I 'queue' the output of a project and use AME, wherever there are graphics laid on top of HDV footage in a PP sequence, AME is adding a red frame that says 'media offline' in several languages. If I 'export' from PP without using AME, it renders fine.
Everything looks good in the PP sequence, all files are present and work fine, so I deduce this is an issue between PP and AME.
Is this a known problem? IS there a workaround?
This system has successfully completed other projects recently. The overlaid graphics in this case are TIFFS, would that cause a difference?
I'm a long time PP/AME user - but CS4 on PC until recently when I bought PP CS6 for Mac, running it on a maxed out iMac.
OS and Adobe are fully up to date, and have tried a restart.
    Thanks

    Bump!
    Nothing from Adobe on this?

  • .MOV files Media offline Line Premiere CC  - Any ideas. ?

    Hey all.
I am have a problem with .MOV files displaying in the premiere timeline.   The .MOV files were converted to that in the Go Pro software.
A/ I have just opened a project via a USB 3 raid drive. The project was created on a windows 7 machine running Premiere CC.
B/ Now I have opened it on a different newer windows 7 machine with more Ram and I7 compared to I5
C/ All of the .MOV footage is no longer displaying.  I have installed Quicktime on the machine and it makes no difference.
Any ideas what is stopping the footage displaying? .  It is showing Media Offline.  I checked and all of the footage is still in the same place on the raid drive.
Machine one  Windows 7 Now has a paid version of Full Premiere CC ( I can still open it on this old I5  Machine )
Machine Two Windows 7 Trial  version of Premiere CC   The footage was edited on the other machine while CC was in Trial version so,  I feel that is not the issue.
Any idea are appreciated, Am I missing a Codec ?
    Thank you for any input.

This was this Free codec that I needed.

The .MOV Go Pro Footage is now working.  It is now just the .MOV lower 3rds from Audio Jungle that are not displaying.

  • I'm trying to import a sequence into premiere pro and suddenly a few sections are 'media offline'

I'm trying to import a previous premiere pro sequence into premiere pro and suddenly a few sections are 'media offline' (it has always worked up until now).  I would be able to relink the clips but the offending ones aren't showing up in the project's clip bin. To make things worse I can't drag and drop the corresponding clips from my finder into the clips bin and then 'replace clip with' in the timeline, as the clips in the project have been renamed, and are synced up to audio (this is a 90 minute feature film).
    Can anyone help??!!

Right click on the offline clips and select Reveal in Project.  This will call up the bin they're in, where you'll be able to relink.

  • How can I open an AEP project and make all media OFFLINE?

    Hi There,
I am working with an AEP file that is on the network that has pretty heavy media files linked to the project. Every time I open the file over the network, AE takes FOREVER to open it. I remember somebody showed me a way to open up a file and making all the media offline. Something like holding ALT when pressing the open button on the Open File dialog. Although, I can't remember if this is right. I'm on a Mac, and I'd like to know if there is a way to do this so I can open up the project without waiting, and simply link the files that I really need to be linked so I can work quicker.
Anybody have any suggestion? Thank you for your time and help!

    >You can just change the name of the folder where your sources are stored.
That works well for Windows, but Mac OS is a little trickier. The OS keeps track of folder name changes (even on network directories) and will re-direct requests appropriately. Very cool for users, very bad if you're trying to fool a program like AE. (Had to struggle with this about a month ago to offline some files.)
The only way I was able to make it work was by changing the name of the folder from a different computer while the main computer was disconnected from that server.

  • Media Encoder: outputs "Media Offline," freezes during H.264 Export

    Hi,
I've been experiencing multiple issues with AME...firstly, on occasion when exporting timelines with linked AE comps, one or two of those comps will output with "Media Offline" frames even though the comps are online and fully playable in the timeline. I have to scrub through my output files now to ensure these frames aren't there, and I've had a few slip by, so this is a big issue that needs to be addressed. Exporting directly from Ppro works fine.
Secondly, when exporting H.264, AME just plain stops encoding in the middle of exporting. This isn't repeatable across different timelines, but if it does freeze on a particular clip, attempting to export that one timeline will always freeze at that same point. Exporting directly from Ppro works fine.
These have happened on multiple timelines, multiple projects, across two machines: a 2010 mac Pro and a 2013 macbook pro retina.

    Hi Mark,
I did install the CC 2014.0.1 update and the issue remained. I had a colleague tell me that he experiences the same issue for Format= Quicktime, Codec= h.264 when he has the "limit data rate" option checked with a value. When I unchecked the limit data rate (of my standard 10,000 kbps 720p preset) I got a clean render devoid of the previously mentioned artifacts. However, it defaulted to a 70,000 kbps data rate which of course is higher than I'd like/need. For now I guess I'll be exporting .mp4 h.264, but I'm still curious why the limit data rate doesn't behave like it did in CS6.

  • Adobe Media Encoder 4.0.0.374 - Media Offline Error when encoding

My problem is a little urgent, so, if possible, i want a fast answer.
I edited my video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. When it was done, i tryed to export it, in File > Export > Media (Ps. In my program, i don't have File > Export > Movie). I set my video export settings, and then accepted. The Adobe Media Encoder 4.0.0.374 window appeared, with my project in the queue list. Then, i pressed in "Encode". First, the program is slower than normally to load the file, but i think it can be that my video is too long. After load, it starts to encode. After a time, in the preview box, appear the "Media Offline" ( and never is the same footage ) image, the same of Premiere Pro CS4. After a little, a "Encoding unsucceful. Unknown Error" appears, and the encoding stops. I don't know if is a Premiere Pro or Media Encoder error, so i posted here.
    Considerations:
Before i encode, i ever verify (and fix if necessary) if all videos of the project is linked, but ever time i reopen the project, some footages ( never the same ) are unlinked, and i have to link again.
I tryed to encode various differents formats, like AVI, WMV or F4V, but in every time i get the error. I tryed even to export first the audio, then the video, separated, to link after, but only the audio is succeful exported.
    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, with a 4gb RAM, 1TB HD and Pentium Dual-Core 3Ghz.
I just got to encode with succes some times before. This is the first time it occurs.
I used the program (Premiere Pro) normally, some days ago, until 02/11. Since 03/11, it slowed. I just disabled all visual effects, disfragmented my disk, cleaned, and set the "Use more energy to more process" settings, but my program is still slow.
If needed more considerations, ask to me.
I just searched for similar problem, but dont got any result.
Sorry if my english is bad, i am Braziliam.

I have a similar problem. When I attempt to encode a list of clips, Media Encoder sometimes fails with a media offline warning. The media is just fine, nothing actually off line nor corrupted. If I elect to encode directly from Premiere Pro, the compilation proceeds normally. That's not practical when I have a list of clips and other things to do besides watch the creeping status bar.
My temporary fix was to uncheck the "import sequences natively" option. It's a little slower using the dynamic link, but it works, and my hair can start growing again.
This glitch appeared only with the latest update via Creative Cloud.

  • "Media Offline" in Premiere Pro CS3 .. but it's not offline!

If anyone is able to advise on a technical problem in Adobe Premiere Pro (CS3), I'd be most appreciative I'm hoping someone will be around anywhere to help solve this...
    Please look at:
    http://www.thepfjstudios.com.au/images/PremiereProblem.jpg
to understand my issue better. (Img 1440x900, approx 210kb)
In the upper left box are the videos in the project. This issue is with all videos in the project, but for the example, I'm looking at the highlighted video, MOV03C_03.mpg. The thumbnail at the top of the list shows the video is working, I can play it fine by pressing the play button next to the thumbnail.
The same video, MOV03C_03.mpg, is in the timeline at the current point of the cursor. The current timecode is 00:00:55:22 (hh:mm:ss:ff). I don't understand why the monitor on the upper right corner is showing the video (and all videos in the project) as "media offline", when they're all in the project and able to be played, therefore *not* offline.
Is there some way I can fix this? It's for a university project that I'm needing to deliver to our customer this week...

The guy that said "if an Asset appears as Off-line, it is because the Asset IS Off-line" obviously hasn't seen this problem before.
You are absolutely correct here. Most users have not seen this problem before. In my search of these fora, I found only this, and one other thread where this behavior was reported. In all others, the problem came about because of things like Paths changing (external drive letter changes were the most common). There were cases where the Path was changed by Renaming, Moving and Deletion, but only this, and one other instance, where something else intruded.
Now, it appears that you also encountered the issue, so that runs the count up to three. There are possibly others, who have never posted here, but we cannot count them, unless one searches every possible forum on the Internet.
It is good that you have found a way to get around the issue, and thank you for posting that.
I do, however, have a little problem with your attitude. A forum respondent can only comment of problems that they have had, observed from others, or have read about. If few users have encountered this issue, it might seem that it is related to but a few Projects, systems, or users' actions. If it were a universal Bug, it would seem most logical, that many others would have encountered it, and reported it.
You are correct. I have not encountered this problem, and it appears that most other users are in the same exact position. Maybe we do something differently, or our systems and Projects are different enough, that we have just been spared. I am not sure that is a bad thing.
Again, thanks for posting your keystrokes to handle the problem, when it arises. I hope that will help others, when they show up.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Media offline...can't be!

I'm trying to export a short clip. The clip plays on the timeline. The clip plays in the Export Settings box, both in the Source side and the Output side. But when I complete the export I get the 'Media Offline' error on the clip. The media can't be offline, it shows up on the timeline.
Premiere CS4 on a MacBookPro. Footage is from an XDCAM EX-3. File>Export; Export Settings are quicktime format, codec is H.264.
A title on the timeline does show up over the Media Offline error.
    What now?

Nope, download from Apple. That way you'll have the latest.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
This is usually wrapped up in Updates (under the "apple" menu) but going to the link above will allow you to update just QT without others that you may or may not want.

  • "media offline" at every project start

    Hello,
I have a problem with the "media offline" note.
At every start of a project in adobe premiere elements, a number of media files were not loaded correctly ("media offline"). Most of the media files (video clips) are succesfully connected by premiere elements, but some not.
I did not change the directory of the files or the project. The media cache is in the same directory as the project.
Also, it doesn't matter if I re-connect the video files. At the next start of the project, there will be some media offline again (not always the same files!).
    Thanks for help,
    Klaus.

    Klaus,
One workflow, that might be helpful to you, is how I handle my Still Images and Video files:
I first archive my files to my NAS unit, for secure storage, using a folder structure that makes sense for me. That might be by date created, or by subject matter.
Then, when I go to create a Video Project, I create a sub-folder structure, below the "root folder," for that Project, say, E:\[Project Name]\Still Images, then Video, then Graphics, etc.. For the Video, I then Copy over the necessary files, for that Project, and then Import those from there. I still have the originals on my NAS, for safe keeping, and use in other Projects.
This article goes into a bit more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4028199#4028199
    Good luck and happy editing,
