Media Offline problem...

I'm having a problem with getting the dreaded red bar saying my media is offline. Seriously... I've read through past posts and still can't resolved my problem. I captured the media several days ago and have been working on/saving the project very consistently.
Today I went to try and go in to LiveType and for some reason 75% of my clips are now reading offline. So I read the forums and read what I needed to do to reconnect, but now I can't find anything on in my scratch disk folder even remotely related to my project.
What would have caused the clips to go offline? And why aren't they in the scratch disk folder?
I would appreciate any help. This is a project for work that is already way overdue.
Thanks so much!

Does anyone happen to know why my files wouldn't be in the Capture Scratch folder? Can they just delete themselves?
Yes, files do seem to go missing by themseleves.
Read the info on this previous post and follow any links:
http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=5030009
The info relates to Soundtrack but I think the priciple/bug is the same in your case. Loosing files occurs during the import/export process. At this stage, no clear answer is known. Just workarounds.

  • HUGE "Media Offline" Problem. Looking for life raft. PLease save me

So I think I may have deleted about 60 Gigs of video and I'm curious if anyone out there might be a wizard in the dark, and might be able to save me from drowning in my own despair.
    The situation:
I've been capturing clips into iMovie and then transferring files from the iMovie Media bin into the Final Cut Express bin. I have also been putting items into my trash bin all along that I didn't want. Recently, I saw there were trash items in iMovie and it asked if I wanted them anymore. I checked to make sure all the files were also in Final Cut Express bin, and then said ok. Now half of my media is offline. Is there any way of getting it back? Any sort of Trash Recovery program for Macs? Anything? ....
    Thanks again,
    Yours Truly,
    A Drowning Soul.
P.S. I have a 16 day deadline. That's even hard to write, let alone think...

If by moved them into the FCE bin you mean a bin in the browser then you didn't do anything except tell FCE where the material was. If you then delete the material it's gone. There is no way to recapture iMovie material because it has no timecode. You might want to do a finder search just to see if some of the clips are still on your hard drive, but if they're not you'll have to recapture the material.

  • Error Message for "Media Pending" or "Media Offline"

    This is INCREDIBLY frustrating.
It is my job at a church to produce broadcast-quality segments for our local tv stations for 28 minute slots. I am working with HD-quality videos, bumpers, audio files, etc. It takes my PC about 30 minutes to render each segment and I work with about 4 segments a week. Add that up, and it takes me two straight hours to render each finished product (not counting any edit work), all which have to be done in a day because we broadcast most of the stuff that happens on Sunday the following Tuesday.
That said, I render the final product, after everything has been through quality-control, through encoder because of the FTP option. When I leave every Monday afternoon, I start the queue for the four segments, which, in turn, will spit out the product and FTP it to our server at the tv stations.
But when I come in Tuesday morning and find that AME has rendered four USELESS videos because, instead of informing me when I started the queue there was something wrong with fetching the video files, it decided to render some stupid stock frame of either, "Media Pending" or "Media Offline" - which makes ABSOLUTLY NO sense, for when I open premiere or after effects, it renders quite fine through AME. You can't sit here and tell me that the rendering software requires the project to be open in Premiere or AE. That would be counter productive and impossible for anyone batch-rendering.
Here is what I need: Just a simple, "Hello, there was something wrong with fetching all of the media files in your project (blank, blank, blank) - please check your project file."
    Thanks!

Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Premiere CC - media offline when working with AE comps

I am working with Premiere CC and using After Effects CC comps for some Keylight 1.2  keying within the project - AE comps created in Premiere via "right click" on clip saying "superseded by AE comp".
The After Effects project incl. all the comps and Premiere project saved locally - same location, local.
Till now editing (P) & keying (AE) worked without any huge problems - due to using 4k material I had some play-back problems - not worth mention it though.
    POSSIBLE REASON? When it started:
With both open - AE and Premiere project - I worked on the key in the AE comps. When finishing the keying I saved the changes - what normally works finw without asking me WHERE to save it.
Now AE asked me where I would like to save the project although it should have a location already - as I saved it before locally.
So I saved it with the same name and same location - overwriting the "old" project. That was when the problem occured...
    PROBLEM:
Now the Premiere project can not find/link the AE comps / project. Saying: Media Offline.
Although it displays the right path in the Premiere project window!
    TRIED THIS:
In Premiere I tried to "Link to media". Which will work for any three of the 20 AE comps!
At the 3rd or 4th one I try to link (automatically doesn't work here for some reason?) Premiere either hangs after a while or "changes mind" and finds no links anymore - even those I relinked just minutes before will have no connection anymore - again "offline"!
Nonetheless, the After Effects project works fine. No problems here (project has neither a long name nor blanks).
Any ideas what could be wrong? How can I relink the comps? I am really clueless.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Mylenium basically answered your question: quit both applications, manually clean Media Cache Database, restart PrPro and let it rebuild Media Cache Database (reconform files). Other than that provide information about your disk setup. Since AE wanted to know where to save project file, it might for some reason lost connection...

  • Media offline issue in premiere cs6

I recently had my copy of Premiere CS6 fixed due to a handlertitler.dll problem. However, when it was finally fixed there was some playback issues, and about a third of my media is offline. How do I relink the media to where I can hear and see my video on Premiere CS6?

Media Offline is most often caused by the links to it, which are absolute Paths, being changed. It could be a drive letter, a file Rename, or similar.
I agree with Jim, that the best course of action is to let PrPro relink that media, when it asks "Where is file ____ ?" This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4598705#4598705
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - if you have not Moved, or Renamed anything, I would definitely check my HDD's, to make sure that they are functioning at 100%.

  • Adobe Media Encoder 4.0.0.374 - Media Offline Error when encoding

My problem is a little urgent, so, if possible, i want a fast answer.
I edited my video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. When it was done, i tryed to export it, in File > Export > Media (Ps. In my program, i don't have File > Export > Movie). I set my video export settings, and then accepted. The Adobe Media Encoder 4.0.0.374 window appeared, with my project in the queue list. Then, i pressed in "Encode". First, the program is slower than normally to load the file, but i think it can be that my video is too long. After load, it starts to encode. After a time, in the preview box, appear the "Media Offline" ( and never is the same footage ) image, the same of Premiere Pro CS4. After a little, a "Encoding unsucceful. Unknown Error" appears, and the encoding stops. I don't know if is a Premiere Pro or Media Encoder error, so i posted here.
    Considerations:
Before i encode, i ever verify (and fix if necessary) if all videos of the project is linked, but ever time i reopen the project, some footages ( never the same ) are unlinked, and i have to link again.
I tryed to encode various differents formats, like AVI, WMV or F4V, but in every time i get the error. I tryed even to export first the audio, then the video, separated, to link after, but only the audio is succeful exported.
    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate, with a 4gb RAM, 1TB HD and Pentium Dual-Core 3Ghz.
I just got to encode with succes some times before. This is the first time it occurs.
I used the program (Premiere Pro) normally, some days ago, until 02/11. Since 03/11, it slowed. I just disabled all visual effects, disfragmented my disk, cleaned, and set the "Use more energy to more process" settings, but my program is still slow.
If needed more considerations, ask to me.
I just searched for similar problem, but dont got any result.
Sorry if my english is bad, i am Braziliam.

I have a similar problem. When I attempt to encode a list of clips, Media Encoder sometimes fails with a media offline warning. The media is just fine, nothing actually off line nor corrupted. If I elect to encode directly from Premiere Pro, the compilation proceeds normally. That's not practical when I have a list of clips and other things to do besides watch the creeping status bar.
My temporary fix was to uncheck the "import sequences natively" option. It's a little slower using the dynamic link, but it works, and my hair can start growing again.
This glitch appeared only with the latest update via Creative Cloud.

  • "Media Offline" in Premiere Pro CS3 .. but it's not offline!

If anyone is able to advise on a technical problem in Adobe Premiere Pro (CS3), I'd be most appreciative I'm hoping someone will be around anywhere to help solve this...
    Please look at:
    http://www.thepfjstudios.com.au/images/PremiereProblem.jpg
to understand my issue better. (Img 1440x900, approx 210kb)
In the upper left box are the videos in the project. This issue is with all videos in the project, but for the example, I'm looking at the highlighted video, MOV03C_03.mpg. The thumbnail at the top of the list shows the video is working, I can play it fine by pressing the play button next to the thumbnail.
The same video, MOV03C_03.mpg, is in the timeline at the current point of the cursor. The current timecode is 00:00:55:22 (hh:mm:ss:ff). I don't understand why the monitor on the upper right corner is showing the video (and all videos in the project) as "media offline", when they're all in the project and able to be played, therefore *not* offline.
Is there some way I can fix this? It's for a university project that I'm needing to deliver to our customer this week...

The guy that said "if an Asset appears as Off-line, it is because the Asset IS Off-line" obviously hasn't seen this problem before.
You are absolutely correct here. Most users have not seen this problem before. In my search of these fora, I found only this, and one other thread where this behavior was reported. In all others, the problem came about because of things like Paths changing (external drive letter changes were the most common). There were cases where the Path was changed by Renaming, Moving and Deletion, but only this, and one other instance, where something else intruded.
Now, it appears that you also encountered the issue, so that runs the count up to three. There are possibly others, who have never posted here, but we cannot count them, unless one searches every possible forum on the Internet.
It is good that you have found a way to get around the issue, and thank you for posting that.
I do, however, have a little problem with your attitude. A forum respondent can only comment of problems that they have had, observed from others, or have read about. If few users have encountered this issue, it might seem that it is related to but a few Projects, systems, or users' actions. If it were a universal Bug, it would seem most logical, that many others would have encountered it, and reported it.
You are correct. I have not encountered this problem, and it appears that most other users are in the same exact position. Maybe we do something differently, or our systems and Projects are different enough, that we have just been spared. I am not sure that is a bad thing.
Again, thanks for posting your keystrokes to handle the problem, when it arises. I hope that will help others, when they show up.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • "media offline" at every project start

    Hello,
I have a problem with the "media offline" note.
At every start of a project in adobe premiere elements, a number of media files were not loaded correctly ("media offline"). Most of the media files (video clips) are succesfully connected by premiere elements, but some not.
I did not change the directory of the files or the project. The media cache is in the same directory as the project.
Also, it doesn't matter if I re-connect the video files. At the next start of the project, there will be some media offline again (not always the same files!).
    Thanks for help,
    Klaus.

    Klaus,
One workflow, that might be helpful to you, is how I handle my Still Images and Video files:
I first archive my files to my NAS unit, for secure storage, using a folder structure that makes sense for me. That might be by date created, or by subject matter.
Then, when I go to create a Video Project, I create a sub-folder structure, below the "root folder," for that Project, say, E:\[Project Name]\Still Images, then Video, then Graphics, etc.. For the Video, I then Copy over the necessary files, for that Project, and then Import those from there. I still have the originals on my NAS, for safe keeping, and use in other Projects.

  • Timeline thumbnails show media offline, but media is not offline.

Short version: I opened a project today that I had been working on for a long time. Some of the thumbnails in one of my timelines show up as the red "Media off-line" image. But the media is not off-line. I can play the clips just fine. Everything else seems (more or less -- see below) normal except for a handful of these off-line thumbnails. It's not a disaster, but it makes it hard to find my way around. And I'm worried that it's a sign of something more serious wrong under the surface.
Long version: I'm using an older Macbook Pro with an ESATA expresscard. My media is all on external ESATA drives. My project file is on the Macbook's internal hard drive.
I use my Macbook as a desktop machine. The computer sits on a dedicated shelf on my desk. My cat makes a habit of sleeping on top of the machine. (You can probably guess where this is going.) Most of the time this is not a problem, but about a week ago he decided to stretch in just the wrong way and pushed the expresscard out of its slot. After screaming and throwing the cat across the room, I saved the project file, remounted the disks, re-opened the project file, and breathed a big sigh of relief when everything seemed to be fine. I quit FCP again and put the project on hold for about a week.
Today I reopened the same project file and the trouble started. At first all the timeline thumbnails showed up as media-offline, even thought all indications were that it was on-line. In addition, all my audio and video renderings were gone. I re-did them, and after a while some of the thumbnails restored themselves as well. But not all of them.
All of which has me a little flustered.
Has anyone encountered anything like this before? Is there a way to force FCP to refresh the timeline thumbnails? It's hard to find my way around now that all the clips look the same.
    Thanks.

i've experienced this before, but i can't really remember how i sorted it,
i may have deleted the thumbnails out of the scratch disc, or it may have been that i switched the timeline view to name only saved and closed down, then opened it up again and switched them back on to refresh
but i know on no refresh thumbnails button in fcp itself

  • Some images in timeline are white, with "media offline" message in canvas

I am making a short movie of images taken on my Canon powershot S5 camera. I am importing photos and movie clips from this digital still camera. They appeared correctly on the timeline at first. I rendered them and they played fine on the canvas. Then after saving project and opening later, some of the images appeared white with the "media offline" message in the canvas. I tried locating a few of them and reconnecting which solved the problem. However, strange things are happening: when I click on the white images they turn black but still play OK. Also some of the pale blue images have the "media offline" message, others do not, or the same sequence in an earlier saved version plays with no problem.
If I burn a DVD of this movie (so far incomplete) will it look OK if all appears well in the canvas, regardless of the colour of the clips in the timeline, or should I take some action first to "clean up' the timeline before proceeding? In other words, is the image in the canvas a true representation of how the final project will look?
I would appreciate some advice please as I am a bit confused by this. Thank you. Keith

    JPEG photos don't need converting.
In FCE simply select File>Import and navigate to your photos.
Have you trashed your Thumbnail Cache folder yet as that will probably cure it?
They can be in a couple of places. By default FCE puts one lot in User>Documents>Final Cut Express Documents.
If you have specified an external scratch disk they will also be there, so look in FCE>System Settings>Scratch Disks to find out where you put them.
Once trashed, on relaunching FCE new ones are created.

  • Media offline error message; Equipment

    1)  I'm running PE 8 on a PC with dual core AMD, 4 GB Ram, Vista Home Premium.  I'm working on a short project with lots of short segments.  I save frequently to avoid freezes which seem to occur when too many actions have been done.  Nevertheless,  everytime I get close to finishing, some of the clips will come up with this error message Media Offline which has to do with losing the file association.  It's very tedious to reestablish the link, i.e. reimport the clips.  Any ideas?  Do lots of short clips create a problem?
    2)   I'm wondering if going to a faster, perhaps Intel rather than AMD processor, and/or going to Windows 7 would help.  I hate to just throw money at this, including switching to MAC, but it's highly frustrating.  Has anyone upgraded from VIsta and had things improve?  Any other tweaks in terms of swap files, etc that might work?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Premiere Elements 8 is more of a resource hog than the previous versions -- but, with the 8.01 patch applied, it should run just fine on XP SP3, Vista SP2 and Windows 7. (Although many people report driver issues that lead to instability on the 64-bit version of Windows 7.)
If you can't get it to work, however, you can try an alternative, like Sony's Vegas MovieStudio 10, which costs about the same and seems to be less sensitive to Windows instabilities than Premiere Elements.
As for your media offline issues -- where is your media located? Is it on your computer's C drive? If not -- or if it's on an external drive that you have used Map Network Drive to assign a drive letter to -- your computer can lose track of the links to your media files.

  • "Media offline" in Final Cut Express

Using an external drive as my scratch disk (or at least I think I am), and after exporting video clips into FCE, changing the name of the clip to make it more descriptive, everything appears to be fine. If I close the program and return, all the clips I loaded now have a red line through them and the screen says "Media Offline." I've tried and tired to "reconnect" but that doesn't work. I also can't find the clips on in the FCE folders on either my hard drive or laptop. Any suggestions?

Pardon my mis-nomenclature. I captured video clips from my camcorder into FCE. I changed the names of the clips in the browser window (I don't know what the formal name is, but it's the window that shows up in FCE showing your clips), which I had done before without any problem.
A complicating factor: After I had captured most of a tape's worth of clips, I realized that my laptop was designated the scratch disk. I changed the designation to my hard drive, and dragged the capture folder over to the hard drive. Those clips continue to show up fine. It's only the clips I've captured after all this that are lost or "offline."

  • Media offline / file import failure

    Hi,
I have my project created in Premiere CS6. Now i updated to CC.
In my project, i imported a really short AE file into my Pr timeline. The whole vidieo worked fine.
Now I just noticed that media (AE file) was reported media offline in Premiere CC.
OK, I tried to locate the media from the folder where i keep the file.
Can locate the file but hitting "ok" button won't let me select the file.
Ok, I treid to rename the AE file. Imported the file in Pr, but Pr says file import failure.
    Anyone come across this problem.
Not sure if this's because of version CC. My AE file is there. Nothing has changed.
Just don't know why I can't relocate and import the file.

    HI abhishah,
    Thanks for posting on adobe forums;
    Please provide me following details
    Premiere pro CC or CS6
What is the OS and version ?
What is the Graphics Card installed on the system ?
How much Ram do you have ?
Do you use any external Hard Drive ?
and please try to copy the media file from the one location another without media, and make the media offline and save the project as a new project and try to open the new one, then try to link the media.
    Thanks
    Sandeep

  • FCP4.5 + LiveType = Media Offline and gone forever.

    Hi everyone,
The other day I cut a project in FCP 4.5, everything was great, then I took a clip into LiveType at the end to do some titles, and then the next morning when I came in to resume the MEDIA OFFLINE box popped up showing all my files were missing. I tried to reconnect but it couldn't find them, I did a finder search and it couldn't find them. I ran Data Rescue and it couldn't find them. Nothing in the trash. They were just totally gone. So I've been trying to figure it out ever since, and I'm scared to cut again in case the same thing happens. I thought it was a LiveType bug, but maybe it's a pro app bug given some comments around here as I had FCP and LiveType open and was exporting from one to the other.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this happened? I posted to the LA Final Cut Pro Users's Group forum, too, and it's happened to a few people but mostly they're pretty stumped. This is a huge deal, and I'm really mad but at the same time glad my project was a short one.

It has happened to me, too, but just once.
There is no identifiable cause for this mysterious file deletion problem. It's frustrating because, as you found, the file is gone and it is as if the file never existed as far as the Macintosh drive directory is concerned.
We've been seeing posts about it for several years although yours in the first in many months. That's about all we know. It happens. It's a total bummer. And there's nothing we can do about it. FCP5.0 seemed to have put an end to it but that's not clear, either.

  • Media Offline when Exporting back to FCP from STP. Lesson 10 in APTS book.

Hello, I am going through the Apple Pro Training Series Book by Martin Sitter found a road block in Lesson 10. The topic is conforming at that seems to work decently (except for garbled text in the right side of the Conform tab). My issue is when trying to export back to FCP. I choose to Send Files to FCP sequence. A new sequence is created in the selected project as expected. The audio is fine, but instead of using the video from the correct sequence, it seems to be trying to use clips from the older sequence. Additionally, all the video clips show up as Media Offline. I can reconnect media, but the problem is that it is the wrong video sequence. Oddly, in STP the video looks perfect. Is there an error in the metadata? can this be fixed or prevented? Thank you

    Barreltone,
I am exporting back into Final Cut Pro via Send to Sequence. I have been exporting from the browser of FCP (sequence), and not the timeline (clips). I'm going to try that tactic, and see if that works.
