Media player and internet radio for IPod Touch 2g

I’ve just bought second hand IPod 2g and very disappoint. I expected will be able to download old application and enjoy maybe not new features but at least use the device. Unfortunately all which I found are not working (linke UPnPPeek) or need iOS 4.3 or higher. I’m not looking for anything new and flashy, just three things:
Simple and free UPnP/DLNA client which will play music from my NAS
Internet radio player with many stations
Something to copy files from my NAS over WiFi.
Could you help me please? I’m really frustrated on this stage after spending whole day looking for solution.

Computers are different, so you can't meaningfully compare the two types of devices. I'd suggest you research how far back the current versions of Windows Phone and Android support before you conclude that Apple is treating you unfairly. I think you'll find that Apple actually supports their hardware of this class longer than almost any other player/phone manufacturer. Your iPod was given two major operating system upgrades (with a number of new features in each) and a number of minor ones, all at no charge to you, which for a device like that seems quite reasonable to me. In addition, it's completely the developers' decision to drop support for older iPods and versions of iOS; Apple did not force them to do so.
Up to you, of course. If you feel some other device will better suit your future needs, by all means buy that device. Just do your homework before you decide so that you're not even more disappointed down the road.
Regards.
P.S. Oh, and in just five seconds of searching I found at least a couple of streaming apps that will still work on iOS 4.2.1, at least according to the app system requirements:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id294952511?mt=8
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id443081543?mt=8
Surely you can find something that will work for you, even if it's not ideal.

  • Users Guide and Users Manual for iPod Touch 4?

Has anyone located the PDFs for the "Users Guide" and "Users Manual" for iPod Touch 4? I can't seem to find them.
    TIA
    Judie

In addition to the "User's Guide" there has also been a PDF "Features Guide" for each version of the iPod touch. (The one iwell provided a link for is not for the 4th generation iPod touch. (The 'at a glance' sketch shows the on/off button on the left. It's on the right on the 4th generation iPod touch.) It's possible Apple hasn't posted it yet. But I appreciate you both for trying. Thank you.

  • Search for non-internet Apps for iPod Touch?

I have an iPod Touch, so I don't always have an internet connection when I am away from my house. I would like to specifically search for apps that don't require an internet connection to run. For example, many of the translation tools rely on Google to translate--I would like a translation app with a built-in dictionary that I can use without having internet access.
Is there a way to specify a search for only self-contained apps (don't rely on internet) when searching iTunes? Or do I need to open the description for each app to see if it relies on an internet connection?

No one answered you, but this is exactly what I am looking for too.
What I have found is that, without an internet connection, the iphone and touch products are little more than a pretty music player. I think they call it 'cloud computing'; focusing data storage and function on remote systems and just using the touch and iphone for access. That appears to be the way their development is going. It works fine when you are always near wifi, but where I work has no wifi and no cell coverage. I've found that for most work tasks, translation, secure documents, gathering data, GPS etc, the PDA or smart phone is a better fit. Those store data and applications locally on the unit itself rather than on the internet somewhere that you won't always be able to access.
With all the storage space on the touch and iphones, you'd think they could give a little of it over to onboard apps and functions, but until they do, at least there is the PDA.

    1. There are a lot of radio sites already available through iTunes.
    2. VLC might work for you.
    3. I don't know much about this site and i am English speaker so i cant translate most of it but i just went there and now find myself listening to something called -Schlagerhoelle-. A playlist was downloaded and opened in Itunes.
4.They have a forum. ask there.

  • Internet Filtering for iPod Touch

I have a 12 year old boy that just got an iPod touch for his birthday.  Is there anything anyone can reccomend to filter the internet ie. Net Nanny?  Thank you!

Maybe try turning off safari on restrictions and then installing k9 interent browser app, they're a internet filter, the app allows access to the internet with thier standard setting of filtering for the internet browser. Its quite good, its free, however you cant customize what it blocks from being seen when you browse the interent.

  • Just synced and updated os for ipod touch 5th gen and have lost game data - restore won't get it back, is there anyway to retrieve?

Have new ipod touch and successfully transferred game data from old ipod touch, but today have updated to the new os (from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3) and now have lost game progress on several apps.
Have tried to restore the backup but it doesn't bring back the game data
Is there anything I can do to find this data or is it gone for good?

If restoring from backup did not work then there is nothing else you can do. Did you try both from iTunes backup and iCloud backup? If you restore from iTunes backup you have to have the apps in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup.

  • Download restore file and 3.0 for Ipod touch and ipods*****************

I need restore a couple of my ipod and I also need to download the 3.0 for my ipod touch. my problem is that im out to sea and when I get to about 170mb it fails and I have to start all over. 1st question why in apple's infinate wisdom did they not allow you resume download and 2nd is there a way to restore without having to connect to the internet?
I bought the 3.0 for my touch and it frustrating because i will have been running the download for 5 hours and to have it fail *****.....

my problem is that im out to sea and when I get to about 170mb it fails and I have to start all over
That's probably more to do with your internet connection than any problem with Apple's servers, otherwise other people would be suffering the same. Maybe you need to try again on a more reliable and faster internet connection when you can.
1st question why in apple's infinate wisdom did they not allow you resume download and
If you pause the download in the download queue you can resume it.
2nd is there a way to restore without having to connect to the internet?
The restore process does not need a connection to the internet, but obviously you need an internet connection to actually download the update before restoring commences.

  • Pandora and other apps for iPod Touch???

Does it work really good on the iPod Touch?
Are there any problems with the apps and more specifically Pandora Radio?
I just bought a refur. 32GB iPod Touch. And might just keep the
16GB just for the new software. Because all those apps take up space.

pandora works fine for me.and if you don't have the new software on one of your ipods, then sync the one with the new software, then restore the one without the software, select the option to restore as the ipod you synced, and you should have an exact copy of your ipod. this will include any software upgrades (Get 2.0.1 before doing anything else after)

  • Updating to iOS 5 and restoration problems for iPod touch

I tried updating my iPod touch, I think second generation, to iOS 5 last night and when it didn't work I tried to restore it to which it now only shows a usb and iTunes logo. iTunes won't do anything with the iPod while it is plugged in, only saying it is verifying iPod restore with Apple which has been the message I've had for almost 24 hours. I tried to shut down iTunes to see if it would make a difference but when I try i get a message saying it cant quit because it's retoring the software on the iPod. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

The error on the ipod is a usb pointing to itunes logo
The itunes error is saying: "Verifying iPod restore with Apple..."
When I try to quit iTunes it says: "iTunes cannot quit because it is restoring the software on 'Eddie's iPod."

  • Best case and protective film for iPod Touch.

I had to good sense to get a protective plastic film and case for my nano when i got it two years ago. Its still more or less immaculate so i am thinking i will get the same for the iPod touch.
Can anybody recommend a good protective case ?
If i apply a thin plastic protective film to the surface of my Touch, will it interfere with the touch screen functionality ?
If anybody can recommend a good protective film i would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • Do's and dont's for Ipod Touch during winter

Now that its getting colder and such, are there any do's and dont's involved with taking care of an ipod Touch? any special rules for the winter time ? Is it in any risk of getting water inside it by condensation etc ? what temps are safe etc ? are there any special covers or sleeves that make it invulnerable to condensation by sealing it ? If it DOES "break" because of the cold weather, its covered under warranty right ? i would hate to have to go a whole season without being able to use my Ipod Touch outdoors .

ok, so it can be 50 degrees outside and i can walk into a warm house while using my ipod touch and it should work fine ? i dont see how this i possible since i see condensation water drops form on objects at much higher temps like 70's . thanks i will use my ipod touch (since i live in LA, it wont get lower or higher than those temps mentioned)

  • FTP app and Flash support for Ipod touch -- coming soon?

I'd like two things for my ipod touch that I don't have now:
    * an FTP app, to enable me to update web sites on the go
    * browser support for web sites that use Flash
Can anyone offer an informed opinion of when the FTP app and/or Flash browser support will be available? And am I being impatient, as the SDK is still so new?
A related question: what's the best place of staying current with what's available for the ipod touch?

This is a user-to-user site so no one really has an "informed" opinion and speculation is prohibited.
You are being impatient because applications will be distributed through the new Apps Store which won't be available until June. That will also be a good place to see what is available.
Flash availability for the iPhone/Touch is in limbo currently, until Adobe/Apple can come to some kind of understanding I would not look for it on the iPhone/Touch.
Do a search for "Flash" over in that Search Discussions box to the right and you can catch up on the discussions regarding Flash.

  • RE:  New update and added apps for ipod touch

I would prefer that an Apple moderator answer this, so I can get the actual answer...
So... does this upgrade for the Touch NOT include the To Do capability in iCal? If so, why not? Is this ever going to be released? It seems absurd to not include this in an update, when it's such a simple feature. I know I can create a "to do" list in notes, but the point of having a To Do is to be able to check it off as done with a simple touch.
If this is not the case, is there an idea of when I'll actually be able to have the To Do portion of iCal on my Touch?
    Thanks,
    -CE

Apple has stated "this fall". Which could be anytime from September to December.
