Media Player for different file formats

I wonder if you could help me.
I run a media website. I allow users to download videos and
audios.
90% of my videos are in .WMV and some are in .RM and .AVI
formats.
My audios are in .MP3, .RM and .WMA formats.
Now, I want the users to view and listen to these
videos/audios before they download them. Can you tell me what I
need to achieve this?
I think, I need a media player that I can include in my
webpages, and provide it the link to each different file on my
server. Which media player is able to play all of the above
formats?
Waiting for the reply.
Thanks

AIFF would be uncompressed, so clearly the best quality, but the file sizes would be huge. 80 minuntes = 700MB, so basically a 2GB Nano might be able to hold two albums if stored in AIFF format. So I am thinking, you don't really want that one.
AAC format is supposed to give better quality for the same bit rate as MP3. In other words a 128kbps second AAC is claimed by Apple to be at least as good as a 160 MP3. So theoretically, your 192kbps MP3s might be the same quality as 160 AAC files, so going to AAC at 160 would give you smaller file sizes without loss of quality.
However I don't think you would realize that if you converted your MP3 files directly to AAC files. I think it would only truly work if you started with the original CDs again and reimported them to AAC files.
Me, I just stick with 192 MP3s and am happy. And my files are more universal than AAC files so I can put them on a CD that will play on my Denon stereo CD changer or in my wife's car CD changer or my daughter's old portable CD player, all three of which support MP3 files and none of them support AAC.

  • Same logo printing different colors for different file formats?

I created a logo for a client who will be using it for some printed materials.  I provided the logo in 3 different file formats: EPS, JPEG and Tiff.
In INDesign and MS Word, the logo is printing a different color for the EPS vs the Jpeg/Tiff file types.  Is there something I'm missing?
I've even tried changing the color to something completely different and we are getting the same result.  There is STiLL a considerable difference between the Eps file and the other two files.

No the logo was created for print and I originally had used a pantone color but converted to CMYK.  The actual value is C69 M7 Y0 K0.  When my client inserts the eps file into her InDesign layout, it prints a bright aqua color and if she uses either the jpeg or tiff, it is a much different blue.  We've tried other colors because I was thinking it might just be the fact that it's a blue color... but the same thing happens to other colors. I am wondering if there is some sort of color management setting that is causing the eps to be different?

  • Make Firefox Open Windows Media Player for Video Files

I need to make Firefox open the actual Windows Media Player application (not a plugin, the actual app window) when clicking on video links, e.g., WMV. These file types are already associated in Windows Explorer with WMPlayer, but this has no effect on Firefox.
What happens right now is that after clicking a video, I get a black screen with the yellow VLC Player icon (VideoLAN VLC is installed on my PC) in the center and no video. I do NOT want to launch VLC or any internal plugins.

You can change what type of application opens for each kind of type in Firefox's options.

  • I have Media Player for WMV files -- but Quicktime tries to open them

I have both Windows Media Player and Flip4Mac installed... but anytime I am trying to watch a WMV video on the Net, or when I download a WMV file... I always get a "can't play" error. It seems that Quicktime is trying to play these files... how do I disable this and tell all WMV's to play with Media Player?
When I download wmv's, they have the Quicktime logo on the icon... I have to right-click and then choose to play with Media Player (the icon changes) and THEN I can play it.
    Advice? Thanks!

Sorry, I don't, though if you have an Intel-based Mac as your profile suggests, it may be that it can't set the default app to WMP since it's not Intel-native. You might want to ask about that in the Mac OS X or iMac Core Duo area and see if anyone can confirm that.
Note, though, that there's little if anything that the Flip4Mac codec (as long as you have the latest version) cannot play that the Mac version of WMP can. There are a number of codecs that Microsoft has only released for the Windows version of WMP, so if you're hitting any of those, nothing's going to play them in Mac OS X (this applies to any WMV or WMA content that carries copy protection).

  • How to replace Adobe Flash media player for flv files with GOM player?

By default, Firefox opens Adobe Flash for flv files. Flv files aren't listed in my application page. How can I swap Flash for GOM or another player?

    Sam,
    Welcome to the forum.
Where do you need to play this "sprite" (the name for such a Flash video)?
If you need to add that to a Video, then there could be a few challenges in PrE.
If you need to add it to a Web site, then Flash Player (free from Adobe) should be able to display that.
Can you please give us just a bit more info, on how you wish to use the sprite?
    Good luck,

  • Best Media Player for .dvdmedia files

I have ripped several DVDs to the RipIt software file format of .dvdmedia Does anyone know of any WD media centers that are able to read and play them from my 3TD external hd?

There is none. Simply rename it to VIDEO_TS and it will work fine.

  • Despite having the File Associations in both Windows Control Panel and Firefox Options set to Windows Media Player for *.mwv files Firefox tries to open them with Foxit pdf Reader, which bombs out - what now?

Making this entry from my Linux computer which handles the situation correctly. The real situation involves only a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP.

I used this link for tiff http://www.nrl.navy.mil/content.php?P=IMAGES
QT was opening the tiff files. When going into the QT control panel Browser>Mime settings>Images-Still image files I was able to uncheck tiff, which held. I was also able to uncheck all the file types under File Types tab(Images-Still image files) in the QT control panel. However the preference would not hold. Went into Start>Set Program Access and Defaults that also was of no help.
The only way I was able to get QT to release the tiff's from the website I posted was to go into the Folder Options control panel for File Types and change the tif & tiff from QT picture viewer to windows picture and fax viewer.
So not sure why the QT control panel will not respond, there are other file types in the Folder options control panel on this computer other than tiff's that are still associated to QT, but didn't try changing them, perhaps that needs to be done?
Good post I didn't realize this before reading your post, if I come across anything further I'll post back.

  • Making Windows Media Player my default player for WMV files

I installed Flip4Mac and set it as my default player for WMV files. Now when I open large WMV files, I have to wait 10-20 seconds for them to load. I want to go back to Windows Media Player as the default player for all my WMV files - how do I do that? Thanks in advance!

Single click on a .wmv file and open the Get Info window.
Change the "Open with:" app and then click the "Change All..." button.

  • Windows Media Player has somehow made itself the dealt video player for certain file types?

    Title should say default
I have Windows 7 installed in a virtual machine but I didn't think Windows Media Player would barge it's way onto my Mac and start making itself the default player for files here too -.- I even right clicked on the file, click open with.. chose vlc and checked the change all box. This worked and now when I double click the file it will open with vlc, but when I right click it, it still says that Windows Media Player is still the default player for this file type.

Don't know much about WMPlayer, but if FCE has multiple audio tracks a "MIX Down Audio" should be done just prior to the export.

  • Trying to use a different Player for video files..

Originally all my files were viewable in Adobe Media Player as individual files, yet my files were convereted to ONE Flash player file
when I placed them on my laptop including the original discs. This is annoying since the video files fit my screen a bit better in Adobe Media Player.
I am trying to watch videos from Flash Player back to Adobe Media Player how can I do this?
    Thanks!
    DRivera

I do they are video tutorials and I have them on disc. For some reason they have turned into one Flash file with an ordered list of videos when you open up the file. Originally all the files were individual Adobe Media Player files. I would like to have the option how to change this back to the way it was?

  • Move Media Player for Mac

I want to be able to watch full TV episodes at ABC.com, but it keeps telling me I need to install the Move Media Player.
I follow the instructions they have for Mac users, and click the "Install Now" button. I allow my computer to trust the website, and when the loading is complete, nothing happens.
I've tried to download this several different ways.
Is it even possible to download the Move Player onto a Mac?

I went to ABC.com and everything worked fine, although as I am not in US I could not watch full episodes, just trailers etc, which all worked well.
I don't know 'Move Media Player' (spelling?) but:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

I recently changed from PC to Mac and I am working on my thesis transcribing interviews that come in a .wma format. So I need a media player for Mac that has both Speed Controlers (so I can slow down the audio to transcribe them) and can open .wma audio files. Please! I really hope there is a way out of this, thank you very much!

  • Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3?

    Hi All
Why can't JavaFx media player play .m4a file on windows xp sp3? I got an exception that 'Decoder is not available' when I played m4a file on windows xp sp3(it didn't work on vista either), but it works fine on windows 7 , so I guess Javafx media player needs some system dependencies or resources when it plays media files, do you have any suggestions for this ?

To allow playback on Windows XP, you need to install the correct software in addition to JavaFX.
Once the system has been upgraded to meet the minimum requirements for playback of a particular type of video encoding, then playback should work fine.
See the JavaFX Media portion of the JavaFX 2.2 System Requirements:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/system_requirements_2-2/jfxpub-system_requirements_2-2.htm
Note, m4a is just a container file and data streams inside the container format need to match a supported JavaFX format for playback to work:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/media/package-summary.html
    Some approaches you could take:
    - additionally encode the media in VP6 format and fallback to VP6 playback if H.264 playback fails.
    - use a 3rd party player like VLC.
    - don't bother supporting Windows XP video playback.
    - direct a browser to a divx install page if playback fails (http://www.divx.com/).
