Media problem afetr windows 10 upgrade

Hoping that one of the windows insiders on here can help. Took the plunge last night and upgraded a laptop I have but don't use much  from windows 7 home premium to windows 10. All seemed to go ok, but the main thing I do use it for , and hence the fisrt thing I tried, is to play music. The problem is that it will no longer play ANY media file - mp3, avi etc, either from the internal drive, or an external drive where most of my music is stored. I know the files on the external drive are fine because I've connected it to another PC and they play without trouble. Windows Media Player just comes up with the totally useless "media player has encountered an error", and the new Misuc app just directs you to xbox help, which wouln't seem to be very much help at all...... I've checked device manager, and all is ok there. Have tried to update drivers just in case, but either they were totally up to date or no change. Can anyone suggest anything, because at the moment the laptop is pretty much a brick in terms of what I use it for?

  • Satellite L505D-S5965 got shutdown, hibernate and sleep problem after Windows 7 upgrade

I bought my Satellite L505D-S5965 last August. Everything worked fine on Vista. Last month I upgraded it to Windows 7 (Home premium, build 7600), then it started having problem to shutdown, hibernate and sleep. Half of the time, it will shutdown, hibernate or sleep just fine, however, the other half of the time it just never turns off.
For shutdown, it will go to the shutdown screen for 10 minutes until the a blue screen comes up, telling something about windows experience a crash and dumping memory, then it restarts itself.
For hibernation and sleep, it will go to the normal black screen but the hard disk light never turns off (i.e. the hardisk would keep running forever).
It will be a big help if someone can help me with that, I just don't want to keep doing the "hard turn off".

Hey thats great posting and detailed, thank you! :)
Im wondering how you found it out.
But I want to add something: Before you do or change something in Windows registry, make a backup of it. In worst case you restore the old Windows registry. Just to be sure ;)

    Welcome to the forum!
That is the company that is handling the upgrade orders, and the link doesn't raise any red flags here with my copies of IE7 or Chrome.

  • [Desktop 3000 K100] Successful Windows 7 upgrade/install?

    Hi,
I recently decided to move from Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on my Lenovo Desktop 3000 K100 machine.
I already decided to go with a custom/clean install(I'm experienced in that area), instead of using the upgrade feature.
The question is that, have any of You(the 3000 K100 owners) tried and successfully moved to Windows 7 themselves, and now are happily enjoying the new OS, with no issues?
I've noticed that the K100 system is not listed in the "upgrade capable systems list":
    http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/htmls/1256358540190.html
But then again does Lenovo mean the actual "Free Windows 7 Upgrade Program", where they provide you with the free license for intended Windows 7 OS(you do pay for delivery of the Windows 7 dvd though, if I'm correct), or just that the drivers do not exist for the OS.
If it's the second reason, then I believe there's no worries since many articles on the web said that Windows Vista is essentially Windows 7 in a newer candy wrapping. Hence all the drivers should be working fine and be compatible for it.
I also ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisory, and at the beginning it told me that I should upgrade my Vista to SP1 before doing the upgrade. I did so successfully and now the Upgrade Advisory says that I'm set for the Windows 7(Not sure why I had to install SP1 thought, after all I'm doing a clean install). Even all the drivers were checked/marked as compatible for the Windows 7.
Already made all the necessary backups so I'm good there.
I did notice one post on these forums about the owner of 3000 K100 having major problems with Windows 7 upgrade. The post is located here:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/desktop-3000-K100-Windows-7-upgrade-problem-STOP-0x...
He did mention that he had made a bios update, and that might have been the main problem(I never touch bios, nor update it unless it is essential thing to do for me), but then again I may be very wrong about it.
So here I'm asking You, the owner of 3000 K100, if the move from Windows Vista to Windows 7 was smooth for you, or did you encouter problems and therefore should I stay away from that idea?

    HI,
i've a Lenovo 3000 K100 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits : it's working very well. No drivers to install, very stable.

  • Lenovo Z500 Intel Graphics and Function Keys problem on Windows 10

Hi.i have a problem with Windows 10 upgrade. My Model Is Lenovo Z500.  6Gb Ram.  Intel 3230m.  Nvidia GT740m.Since the upgrade to Windows 10 the brightness is at full and i cant dim it,it's always the same.and there are two more problems.second one is my shortcut function keys(Fn + F buttons) don't work :bluetooth, touchpad, turn off screen, refresh etc... .Only buttons that work are for volume and for brightness that dont do anything when i try to lower it down but it shows in upper left corner that the keys are responding. And the third problem is i cant duplicate my display but only can extend .As far for the other stuff everything is smooth and fast.even my games got bigger FPS, for example "Counter Strike Global Offensive". I would like to know if there is fix for brightness and for duplicate screen problem regarding graphics driver, and for my function keys regarding keyboard. Thanks and  i hope for quick response. I know Windows 10 just came out and i know you are at full capacitity for solving everyone's problem but i hope you'll look into this because i'm not the only one with this problems.

    Hi phitbull,
Are all the hotkeys on your SL500 not working, or they are simply not displaying the controls on-screen? (ie. increase, decrease or mute will display on screen). It may be possible that you are missing out on some drivers for your system. If you look around the forums, there are many posts on users experiencing hotkey issues, mainly due to missing pre-requisite drivers. You can find a handful of drivers in the Lenovo Support website's Windows 7 BETA page at the following URL:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=WIN7-BETA
Perhaps you can give this a try:
    1. Install the Lenovo System Interface Driver (v1.01):
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=WIN7-BETA#sid
    2. Install the Hotkey drivers (which installs OnScreen Display v5.32.00 and ThinkPad FulLScreen Magnifier v2.07)
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=WIN7-BETA#atkh
Hope the above helps with your issues.

  • Zen Touch sync problem with Windows Media Player

Please can someone tell me how to get my zen touch to sync with WMP it worked fine until i was advised to install an update to it and it has stopped recognising it! I'm using windows Xp home and have the latest "plays for sure" firmware on the player, Also another problem i cannot install the creative mediasource software to the pc as its wants the player connected and it doesn't recognise the player either!!! the player is recognised in the device manager though can anyone help me please thanks in advance.

I am having a similar problem. I've upgraded firmware(2..0), mediasource(5.0.38), drivers(plays for sure), and Media player(), in that order. After each update, I checked how things worked. That's how I discovered I needed the next. With WMP 0, things were working fine, but I wanted WMP back on my computer. Since then, in CMS5 it takes about 7 minutes to load the player, at least 0 minutes (or sometimes not at all) to edit anything (tag info or playlist) and WMP hangs completely. I've seen that other people have gotten this combination to work with their Zen touch players. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Aspect ratio problem in Windows Media Player for DVD from DVD Studio Pro

So I made a DVD with DVD Studio Pro and it looks good in Apple's DVD Player, on an Insignia DVD player appliance and on Playstation 2. Both the movie and the deleted scene were 16:9 from camera to Final Cut Pro and they show that way in all these players.
But on Windows Media Player for Windows XP, the program thinks the movie is 4:3 and the deleted scene is 16:9. Nero's Showtime has the same exact behavior, but at least you can force aspect ratio on Nero.
Besides being longer, the movie is different from the deleted scene in that the movie was originally out of Final Cut Express on an older Mac and it was encoded big endian. The deleted scene was output from Final Cut Pro and encoded little endian. I didn't think it would make a difference, but I tried outputting the movie from Final Cut Pro on the newer Mac and it did come out little endian. I took that into DVD Studio Pro, got rid of the old VIDEO_TS folder and re-built the project, burnt a new DVD. Then I went back to Windows and...
...the same exact problem. Some of the people I give this DVD to will be using Windows Media Player to view it, which is why I want this to not be an issue at all. What am I overlooking?

Look, everyone here (who each have been creating DVDs for over a decade) is telling you the same story. WMP is buggy. Everyone in the industry knows that. Hardware manufacturers like Dell and HP, know that. Why don't you use the DVD player program that they put on the hard drive? Sure one "Hollywood" title works. Did I mention that WMP is buggy? Test a thousand titles, and I'm certain that you will find some discs have problems on WMP, and WMP alone. (And it isn't my assertion that Hollywood DVDs have issues in WMP, everyone is telling you that.) No one has a solution for this, except to not use WMP. Let me repeat once again, no one has a solution for this except to not use WMP. It is impossible to add any sort of programming to the disc that will detect which player is being used to play the disc and compensate for the problems of that player.
Let me put it this way, if you have a disc that plays fine on Zeus's device, and on Apollo's device, and on Hera's device, and on Hermes' device, and on Artemis' device, but you have problems with Athena's device, then logically, Athena's device has a problem... not the disc. Your own experience has proved this to be true. If you were having problems with every device used, THEN you could rightfully say that there is a problem with the disc.

  • Premiere Elements cause problems with Windows Media Center while streaming to TV.

I was having the following problem:
The audio from the streaming process of a recorded TV show on my HP computer to the remote receivers, a Sony Blu-ray player and/or a Sony Streaming Player, results in the loss of audio signal at exactly 30 seconds from the beginning on either devices. The video continues on as normal.
A user on the Windows 7 forum had the following possible cause and solution.  His response was as follows:
I "solved" my issue, at least partially. Turns out for me a codec installed by Adobe Premiere Elements for audio (Main Concept) was causing mfpmp.exe to fail (you should see it getting an appcrash in the event log two or three times as soon as you start playing the media remotely.) This program is used by microsoft for DRM. I went through and one by one remained the various attached (non-microsoft) modules until i found the one that caused the appcrash. I haven't fully figured out if Elements is now negatively effected, but that's for a different forum.
I tried the quick fix by un-installing Adobe Premiere Elements.  The uninstall solved my problem with Windows Media Center, but I want to re-install the software but I do not want to recreate the problem with Windows Media Center.
Is there another solution for this problem?

I reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and the above mention problem reoccured.  With a little detective work I was able to determine that the file causing my problem was "mc_dec_dd_ds.ax".  I am not sure what this does to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 since I removed (renamed) the offending file.  A strange side affect, renaming the file did cause an increase volume. Strange.

  • Windows media player stop working after upgraded from firefox 6.02 to Firefox 7.01 yesterday.

windows media player stop working after upgraded from Firefox 6.02 to Firefox 7.01 yesterday.
the plugin for win media player is already installed and working fine in FF 6.02 before upgrade. i have Google this issue without any result so far. so i reinstalled the old version 6.02, until fix is found.
anyone has the similar issue with Firefox 7.01 in Win 7 32 bit ?

The issue was not with FF 7.01. VLC player version 1.11.1 is conflicting with windows media player when FF 7.01 tries to play media files! Which was not happening before in FF 6.02.
VLC and plugin media player need to be uninstalled first, then uninstalled FF 6.02. Install FF 7.01 and then win plugin media player again.
