Media section of the finder is empty

Hello all,
I am trying to upload photos from iphoto to shutterfly. I know in the past (Snow Leopard) when I would press the upload button on a webpage, I would get the "Open" window with the special "Media" section in the sidebar that includes Pictures. But this is now empty. No events or pictures are listed as before. I have tried repairing permissions but still nothing is there. See screenshot below. How do I relink the photos to the media sidebar?

Well, the problem seems to have solved itself. I tried again today and all of my photos showed up. I don't know what changed.

  • I have a "hacker" PC showing up under the "Shared" section of the Finder

Today I noticed a PC computer icon showing up under the "Shared" section of the finder. The computer name was brn_921bc1. I immediately went into System Preferences and turned off file sharing. Is it really that easy for a PC hacker to come into my computer? Please help, as this seems to be a huge security threat.
    Thanks!!

I doubt this is a hacker but you do seem to have an insecure setup. If you have your computer connected directly to a cable modem then you are essentially on a shared subnet with lots of other people Most of them aren't hackers -- probably none of them are. But this situation does leave you vulnerable which is why many people prefer to place a router in between their cable modem and their computer even if they are only connecting a single mac or pc to the internet.
My first suggestion is that you turn on your Mac's firewall immediately. Open your System Preferences and type "firewall" in the search box. Hit return. When the firewall screen opens select "Allow only essential services". You should do this before you finish reading this thread.
My next suggestion is to buy what's called a NAT router and stick it in between your cable modem and your mac as soon as practical. This will give you a far more secure setup than you can get with a software firewall alone. If you need help setting it up, come back here and I'm sure you can find the advice you need.

  • How to remove a PC from shared section in the finder

    Community,
I found a pc name in the "shared" ("CONDIVISI" section for italian speakers like me!!) section of the left menu in the Finder. It is something I don't recognize. I never connected to this computer. Any clue how it has been able to get there? How to remove it?
    I appreciate your answer
    Antonio

Most likely, at some time, "betesda-vaio" was connected to the same network as your Mac.  (Perhaps a friend connected their Vaio laptop to your wireless network during a visit?)
The Shared (CONDIVISI) section shows devices that are available on the network; it does not mean that your Mac is connected to the device (in this case "betesda-vaio").
If "betesda-vaio" is no longer on the same network as your Mac, if you log out (or restart), it should disappear from the sidebar.

  • Why does my mac duplicate itself in the shared section of the finder sidebar?

My mac Mini finder sidebar shared section has my mac duplicated eight times and won't allow me access to them. It appeared after the update to Yosemite. How do i get rid of them on the network?

See the two previous discussion on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This" with the green checkmark.  That mark means correctly answered.

  • On my mac, when I try to import certain music CDs (not all) I get this message "You dont have write access for your iTunes media folder or a folder within it.  To change permissions, select your iTunes media folder in the finder, and chose file get info"

I am not sure how to fix this and it is driving me crazy can anyone help?
    Thanks.

    Hi folks,
I've had this issue for a year now and I've read this and several similar articles on how to change permissions for you iTunes Media folder and all that enclosed stuff.
Well today, I got brave and dove into this issue once again and to my surprise I have it remedied.
Before I kept going to my side bar folder 'Music', then located the iTunes Media folder ( I have several libraries).
This time, I went from (your mac)HD, directly to the 'Library', scrolled to 'iTunes' and reworked my permissions there by creating a new user... (ME).  While at it, I adjusted 'Administrator from and back to, 'read and write', gave myself, 'read and write' and left other users as 'read only.'
I then applied to all enclosed folders with the 'gear wheel,' locked the whole shabang up and proceeded to install several old CD's which refused to import in the past.
    RECAP:
HD/Library/iTunes   set permissions for YOU to 'read and write,' then apply to all enclosed folders.
BTW: those enclosed folders are likely to be all the albums you've collected previously.
Perhaps, the 'iTunes Media folder' description from previous instructions kept people looking in the wrong place.
In any case, I'm up and running and I hope you will be too.
    Thanks,
    PS

  • Media browser in Lion Finder?

Hi,  Updated to Lion and have a question.  I no longer see a media browser(or media section) in the left side of my finder windows. I want to be able to see photos without opening up iPhoto.  I have a "pictures" folder under favorites, but this does not let me view the phoos.  I see in mail, there is a photo browser.  How do I get this into my finder on the left side?  Many thanks for your help.

Hi Friends...  Nobody else seen this and have an idea?

  • Is it safe to delete all PREVIEW files in the FINDER's "All my files"?

I have > 7,000 files showing in the PREVIEW section of the Finder's ALL MY FILES.  I want to clean up unnecessary and duplicate files - most are photos. I just want to make sure that if I delete these preview files it will not remove the original  file.

ALL MY FILES is exactly what the name implies — it is a list of all of your files. They are not duplicates (unless you see more than one copy of the same file in the All My Files list). If you delete something from that list, you are deleting the one and only instance of that file.

  • Where are the finder preferences stored?

I have an entry for a deleted folder in the "Places" section of the finder screen.  I am unable to remove it.  Rebooting doesn't help.

when in finder, go to finder then preferences in the menu bar at the top of the main display.

  • Add To "Places" in the Finder

How does one add Music and Movies Folders to the Places section on the Finder? I am using a new installation of Leopard which came with my MBAir.

Open a Finder window and the home directory lists the Music and Movies folders.
Simply drag the folder icon to the sidebar and it will create an icon in the sidebar just like dragging icons to the dock adds them to the dock.

  • Hide Section where the data in section in NUll

I have read a couple of threads but my issues still persists. I am using Business Object XI (infoview)  I want a report to show printers by the model of printer, I have created an object called Model which is based on 2 other fields (both have model details in them. I set the Model field as the section and the report shows as below
    Model 1
Serial Number /  Receive date / Manufacturer
    Model 2
    Null
    Model 3
Serial Number /  Receive date / Manufacturer
I want to be able to remove "model 2" from the report. I go to the section properties and go to display, I " un tick show null field" and I go to 'Hide section when the following are empty'  and check this but the only options I am given in the drop down are the model or block1 when I select either or both the section that I want to suppress is still visible.
Is there a way to get any other values in this dropdown, I have read about something called hide block but I am not sure what this is or even if it is an option in Business Objects?
    Thanks

    Hi Adam,
I had the same problem myself and have found out how to resolve it.
To hide a section where the data in the section is null you need to apply a filter on the data at the report level, not the section or table level if you had a table in your section.
In Infoview (which is Webi in a web browser, usually displayed in HTML):
    1. Go into Edit mode
    2. In the left pane click on the 'Document Structure and Filters' button
    3. Add a new filter at the report level (not on the section or the table) to filter the null data out (in your case WHERE Model Is Not Null)
Your report should now only show you the sections that actually contain any data.
    Regards,
    Chris

  • Removing SHARED from the Finder Side Bar

    Hi everybody,
We are currently prototyping 10.5 for deployment on our network and we are attempting to restrict access to the finder's sidebar "SHARED" section. We don't want our students to be able to easily access lists of all the computer that are on the network which comprises of both apple and windows pc's.
We have tried to achieve this by using work group manager / managed items on machine based policies but it doesn't do anything, the network administrator also placed the restriction on via the user group but again the SHARED section of the finder sidebar still appears.
Is there a prefs file we need to edit manually, something we can then use with workgroup manager to destribute the prefrences to the end user enviroment.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, since this is the final hurdle to us deploying 10.5 throughout our networking environment.
    Thank you
    Pan

  • Cisco Media Hub - Waiting for Media Information on the web application

Good afternoon, I just installed the Media Hub on my Mac. I find the flac music on the media hub through the finder and the web application from media hub (in the configuration settings). Until now I don't see any information concerning the songs on the web application itself (they say that one has to wait several hours until the refresh process of the web application is through). I use kinsky desktop for my hifi (linn majic ds) and the MplayerX on my Mac.
    - Does anyone has the same problems with waiting for the update of the media information on the web application
    - Which software do you recommend for managing your media (mp3, wmv, flac)
Many thanks for your feedback, A.

    Hi Archimedes76,
I use windows media player to manage my music files. Regarding your music file info issue, sometimes I do have to restart my media hub so that it'll re-index the files especially if I transferred a lot of new media. If after a restart and waiting for a few hours while the media rescan and reindex files doesn't work for you then you might try to read this. I found it on the linksys support page though the example shown there is  a windows PC.
         Hope this helps!

  • Tabs on Top option doesn't show up in the pop-up menu when I Control-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip in Firefox 15 on MacBook.

I just updated my Firefox web browser to version 15.0 on my MacBook. I am really used to have Tabs under Address Bar. However, when I Control-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip, there is no "Tabs on Top" option in the pop-up menu.
Any suggestion on how to find this option would be appreciated.

That changed in Firefox 15 and is now a hidden preference; the default is for Tabs on Top to be on. To turn Tabs on Top off, you must use about:config. The instructions are the last item on the following page. I have also included a link on how to use about:config

  • How can i see the MENU bar. Help says "Right-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip. What is a Tab Strip?

My friend just bought a Windows 8 laptop so I told her to download the latest version of FireFox. Unfortunately, some idiot removed the Menu Bar which most people love. You can see all of your options in plain English. Anyway, I referred her to help and cannot believe it's so hard to get a simple answer to this question. Why does FireFox make it so difficult to get an old fashioned menu bar?
Help says, "Right-click on an empty section of the Tab Strip and check Menu Bar". OK, what is a "TAB STRIP" and where does she find it? Who writes these silly, useless help tips?

Grad, you made some good points but we still disagree. I'll acknowledge that maybe millions was a slight exaggeration but nobody has an accurate count. However, I do understand the difference between making something simple and obvious versus a programmer trying to prove how clever he or she is.
Grad, I'm guessing you and your friends are much younger than us as we are well above the age of 50.
As for the number of clicks, I'm confused by your comment. My Menu Bar is always visible so I have to merely '''click once on Bookmarks''' to get to those menu options. It sounds as if you have to initially click on the orange FireFox button in order to see the Menu Bar, and then click a 2nd time on Bookmarks. That sounds like 2 clicks of the mouse to me.
I have Windows 7 and never saw Windows 8 so I can't comment on your excellent question. I personally had the '''Menu Bar displaying 100% of the time''' for as long as I could remember. I just couldn't remember how I initially turned it on several years ago and the help file proved to be more confusing than helpful.
