Media Sync Error - enable mass storage manually message repeats

I have a blackberry 8310 with an extra memory card installed.
Every time I try to use Blackberry Media Sync I get an error message that reads: The connected Blackberry device required mass media storage mode to be enabled manually, please do so from your device and click Retry.
However when I have enabled mass media mode manually and clicked retry, it gives me the exact same message, or sometimes sits there saying connecting to Blackberry device indefinitely.
I have checked for updates both for my desktop software (version 5.0.1) and my Media Sync software (Version 2.0.0.27) all other software is working normally, and I can move music to my device with media manager (which I only tried after receiving the error message about 20 times).
Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Have you used this media card in a different Blackberry and used media sync
with it? Please read the link on the bottom of the post about Media Sync.
DId you format it in the Blackberry when you received it?
On solely your Blackberry, can you store a picture and retrieve it?
Go to options>memory and set the following options:
Use the following settings in the memory option of the device:
Compressions enabled
Media card support ON
Media transfer protocol ON (Storm and Bold only)
Mass storage support ON
Auto enable Mass storage support when connected ON
Save all changes. Now back out of the memory section and go to security>encryption> DISABLE.
Do a battery pull as listed below and let us know how it goes.
Thanks,

  • Broken screen but need to enable mass storage mode blind

    Hi there.
I have a Curve 8900 with a broken screen. I have connected it to Blackberry Desktop Software to get anything I can backed up. It appears to backup all application & organiser things, but wont let me sync music, pictures, or videos.  Troubleshooter suggests that it's because I haven't enabled Mass Storage, but obviously I cant see the screen to see if prompts me to enable it. I have tried connecting my phone and randomly scrolling to see if I can click "yes" to enable it by chance, but it is just as likely that I have clicked "do not ask me again" and then clicked "no" as well.
Can anyone guide me through the long way of going into settings and changing it manually, bearing in mind that I cannot see what is actually happening? Or does anyone know a way around it?
Also, my menu was exactly the same as when I originally got it, with no added icons. I seem to remember 'settings' being on the last row but not at the very end. Thanks.
UPDATE- ok i've worked out how to get into settings, but can someone tell me how to get to Enable Mass Storage mode from there? Like either how many rows to scroll down etc, or if pressing a letter takes me to the correct option, and then where from there?

  • BlackBerry Media Sync error

Hello, has anyone run across the following error when trying to sync using the BlackBerry Media Sync tool?
"BlackBerry Media Sync received an error while transferring songs to the device. Check your media card and try again."
I've had a few users say that this is happening and I'm not sure how to resolve. Users have tried a different microSD card, different USB cable, wiped the device, different BlackBerry, verified that mass storage mode is enabled, verifed that they can drag files to the microSD through mass storage mode & transfer via Roxio media manager.
Any suggestiong would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I've been having this problem for ages and FINALLY sorted it today!  It seems to be an issue with corrupt files:  I've tried converting them to a different file format and they crash when they do that so I can only assume that some of them won't copy even if the original file plays OK in iTunes. The only workaround is to delete them on your playlist.  You'll know which ones they are because that'll be the point at which MediaStync crashes out.  Just take a note of them, exit MediaSync, remove them from your playlist, restart sync and repeat until you (finally) get the rest on there.  Hint: don't delete the media before syncing as you'll have to go throuh the whole process from scratch, and you have to exit and restart MediaSync or it'll still look for the file.  good luck!

  • Media Sync Error - encountered a problem

I have a 8330, upgrade my Desktop Manager to V4.6 and running V4.3 on BB.  I am trying to get MusicSync to work, but I get a error each time I goto to start it up.
"MusicSync has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.  If you are in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost"
    Kudos if you can help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You just solved your problem.
Media manager and Media sync will not move or transfer itunes, that are DRM protected. You will see little red locks on them
in media sync. Blackberry will not play them even if you were to get them there. There are iTunes that are not DRM but they cost more.
Now I don't know anything about this but I know if you Google you supposedly can find free apps that will strip the DRM from the
songs. (That's what I hear anyway.)
    That explains both your problems.
Cough cough (limewire)   cough, excuse me......
    Thanks,

  • Mass storage issues (does not play in car on home stereo) after upgrading to V4.5

I am having issues with Mass Storage after upgrading my 8130 to V4.5.  I can no longe hook the device to my home stereo or car stereo to play music. My computer does read the device.  It is not my media card.  I still have my old blackberry: the card shows up on both phones and computers.  It is not my cables as they work with my old phone.  I have also done all the obvious things like pull the battery and play with the media card setting
This guy had the same issue though i never saw resolution:
Any idea is appreciated! After upgrading the device software to version 4.5 earlier this week (BlackBerry 8800 with v4.5.0.69 (platform 2.7.0.72)) as proposed by T-Mobile and RIM Germany something has changed with the behaviour when connecting via USB as a mass storage device:
Using a micro-SD card with 2 GB for some months now as a storage for MP3-Files which can be played with my Blue&Me system in my car. This is some kind of Microsoft Windows mobile platform (Automotive) providing playback of MP3-files etc connected via USB. This was never a problem with the previous software. It behaved as it should. Here is an example of what it previously did (taken from http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&thread.id=3...):
"On your Blackberry device, you may or may not first see a message about insufficient current. It just means you can't charge your Blackberry with that PC USB port. Hit the escape key once (on your Blackberry device). You will be prompted a question : do you want to activate USB Mass Storage Mode. You can answer YES or NO. Answer YES."
The message about insufficient current is important here because the Blue&Me system does not provide the current as proposed by USB-standards. Anyway after clicking this message/warning away the Blue&Me would recognize the mass storage and start playback.
After upgrading to v4.5 there is no warning about current any more and the mass storage can't be recognized. I've checked both components: The B&M works fine with any other USB-devices connected, and the BB works fine with Windows after connecting via USB (presumably because there is enough current!). All standard settings in Options/Media card for enabling mass storage have been tested but without success.
Hopefully someone whose genius far exceeds mine will help me with this.  Thank You.

I have exactly the same issue with my car stereo equiped with USB and my 8130 device. OS 4.3 works fine (and displays the "insuficcient current" message) and after upgrading to 4.5 mass storage mode not works anymore. And of course it works with regular desktop/notebook computers. I've made many experiments with different storage cards (now I use SDHC 8G from SanDisk). The card works fine if I attach it through card reader in my car, it even see multiple drives which cardreader creates.
Even more I wrote the small blackberry application in java (i'am professional programmer) and ordered BB keys for $20 to deploy it to device. The program uses the RIM api call Device.requestStorageMode() which in my opinion should turn on storage mode of device. But the result was the same - car audio don't see the mass storage with OS 4.5.
Interesting fact that in OS 4.3 the message about "insufficient current" appears BUT the device CHARGES via this USB without a problem. The same case with OS 4.5 - charging device is possible.
Also, I can't switch to OS 4.3 because it have the serious problem with bluethooth connections - it suddenly lost my handsfree link and its very bad if I get incomming call during driving and my handsfree not work.
Forgot to mention - now I have the OS 4.5.0.127

  • Help! mass storage error! please help

i was getting frequent crashes in FCP with a Xserve RAID hooked up via fiber channel card for media storage. i'd get the spinning beach ball and would have to do a manual shut down, approx every 20 minutes.
i did a complete erase and install of both system software and final cut pro software. still had problems.
i did the apple hardware test and got the following error code - MASS STORAGE: 2 STF/2/3: SLOT-3, Channel: 1, ID:0, LUN:
i got this error code ONLY when the RAID was hooked up, otherwise everything passed the test. the RAID mounts fine and in the RAID admin tools, everything gets a green light.
since i am under a deadline and don't have a lot of time to troubleshoot, i rented another G5, bought a new fiber channel card with new cables, and hooked it up to the RAID.
i am still getting the same error. again, the RAID array appears on the desktop, and the RAID admin tools finds everything ok - the fiber channel link ups, etc., check out ok.
i really need to sort this out ASAP!! if anyone has any suggestions for me, i'd be most grateful - thank you

    Hey Kappy,
I haven't seen that specific error before (prob since I hardly ever do apple hardware tests), but the spinning beach ball and the restarting does sound very familiar.
If you've been getting this on both machines, my first guess is going to be a failing drive, since that can easily cause beachballs and hangs. Usually errors come up in RAID Admin, but I've personally had at least 5 times where a drive spazzes and there's no error at all to warn you (and of course applecare wont replace a drive or do anything about it til it happens, and you're screwed with performance until then) Possible things to do to troubleshoot:
    1) Play a video clip in FCP and loop it. Meanwhile, check the raid's blue LED activity lights and see if any of them are out of sync (not blinking in tandem with the rest) If so, chances are that's your problem drive. If the machine starts to spazz, from what i've seen, if its a drive problem, that one drive's LED will stay solid while the others blink seldomely, which means that drive is working overtime to keep up, but can't.
    2) Run drive conditioning from RAID Admin (I believe its only available under version 1.5). This will run for a while and is a great way to force the array to reveal any errors or failures in any of the drives. If you have a problem drive, this will be the best way to force it to turn yellow or red.
For time constraints/deadlines, once you find out what the problem drive is and if the blue light is acting very erradically, drive conditioning will usually trigger the yellow or red light immidately (to where you can call apple and get it replaced under applecare). If you cant wait that long, pull the drive while its still green, and the raid will run in a degraded state (but your performance will be about back to normal). Just make sure and realize that you're not protected in Raid 5 anymore at that point. Even though, this has saved me in deadlines when I had a busted drive and couldn't play back a single stream of DV.
As a seperate comment, going out on a limb and speculating (So dont hold me to it), if it was a drive issue, judging by your error, I would guess it's drive 3.
    NOTE: Always have a backup

  • Mass storage message

what does it mean when it asks me "do you want to enable mass storage". What is mass storage and what does it do?

Mass storage mode allows you to use your BB as a 'jump' drive when connected to your PC.  That is, when you connect to your PC, and it asks, and you enable it, you can go into Windows Explorer and see the files on the BB media card.  You can easily move files back and forth btwn PC and BB this way.

  • "mass storage" error

Suddenly began to have problems with my powerbook 2 days ago. Strange fluctuations in screen brightness with corresponding audible surges from the speakers. I reset the power management unit and the problem seemed to have been solved. Now, the system locked up giving me all kinds of odd errors: for example, while using iWeb I could not publish because the disk was full despite there being plenty of free space on my hard drive and on iDisk; trying to save in pages or iWeb gives an error with a strange number that I failed to note.
My worst fear being the loss of data, I quickly decided to hook up the powerbook in Target Disk mode to my girlfriend's iMac to transfer critical data for safe keeping. However, the iMac won't recognize the disk though in system profile it's listed under the "firewire" tab. I then ran the Apple Hardware Test and got the following error for "mass Storage"
    "Error*Code... 2STF/8/3:ATA-100ata-6-MASTER"
Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on here?
One thing to note, believe it or not my dog (got to love her) ate through my DVD collection which included my Tiger install DVD. So, booting from that DVD is not an option. Any ideas, thoughts, hints, spectulations, or intuitions would be much appreciated.

If you ever see an error with the Apple Hardware Test, you will have to take your Mac in for service to repair it. That appears to indicate a physical/hardware problem with your hard drive. It will probably need to be replaced. It could be an issue with your logic board and the ATA bus itself, but that's a little less likely.
If you send the PowerBook in for hard drive service, it may come back with a new hard drive and the same version of Mac OS X installed that came with your PowerBook when you bought it. AppleCare support will send you a new set of install disks, but they may charge you around $60 to replace them. If your PowerBook came with Mac OS X 10.4, you may not be able to use a retail copy of Tiger to re-install.

  • Using Blackberry as a Mass Storage Device is not working at all. Please advise

It does not show up in My computer. It shows up in the device managers under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as
Blackberry Smartphone I would like to be able to have access to my media card without  having to use my storage card reader.I went to computer management to see if it is a drive mapping issue, but it does not even show up there so there is no letter to assign.
I have made sure that The media card is formatted.
    I have a Blackberry 8310
    v4.5.0.81
Media Support is set to ON
    Mass Storage Mode is ON
and Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected is set to YES
It is a 4GB sandisk micro sd
    The bberry is not locked.
    Encryption mode is not enabled.
I do not have Acronis installed or an Iso mounters to cause any conflicts.
I am not using any network drivers.
Nothing else in plugged into any of the other ports
There are only two on my laptop and I have tried both usb ports.
It is plugged directly to a usb port and not into a hub.
My Computer's OS is XP Pro SP3
Also to reiterate, I am able to take the card out of the bberry and read it no problem through a card reader, but
that is annoying since you are supposed to be able to use see the blackberry as a mass storage device through
    explorer.
And just recently as a test,I tried plugging in another blackberry, a 8800 and that one popped up no problem as a removable device in my computer. What I do not get is why Roxio Media Manager can see the 8310 and copy files over and the device manager has it listed as a smart phone under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers list. This is bizarre.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
GREAT FIRST POST!! Very clear and specific. You don't know how rare that is
Is the laptop in a docking bay?
Content "encryption" meaning Content protection is turned off, right?
Are you able to backup and sync with the Desktop software?
Do you have the correct folders on the card?
Blackberry, music, ringtones, pictures, videos, voice notes?
    (blackberry has to be first).
Last one, how did you format the card?
    Thanks

    No joy.
First attempt after increasing log level -- again it hangs after I input the device password.  I'm not sure what you mean by "attempt to load from WMP" -- presumably that would be some menu or button on the sync app, but since it hangs before I get there I can't try it.   After waiting a while, I used the systray "safely remove hardware" utility and then pulled the BB from the USB.

  • Problems with BB Media Sync and Curve 8330

I having problems getting BB Media Sync to work with my curve 8330.  Some background info:
I am using Windows 7 (I have also tried connecting it on a PC running XP to no avail).
I have an 8 GB microsd card in my curve.
BB Desktop software recognizes my BB.
Windows Explorer does however does not (no removable storage shows up in My Computer (this is true on both my PC running 7 and the one running XP).
I have already checked that mass storage is enabled.
The error message that I get is "Your device is not recognized by Blackberry Media Sync...".
My BB flashes the connecting screen for about a second and then says "Connected to Desktop" when I open BB Media Sync but to no avail.
I have also already tried formatting the microsd card in the blackberry "Media" menu.
I have tested to make sure that its not a USB connection problem and that is not the issue.
I'm at a loss of what else there is to do, can anyone help please?
    Thank you in advance.

I am having a similar problem with my Curve 8330, though I use a Mac and have tried connecting to a PC to only get the same results.
    I have a 4GB Micro SDHC
My BB will connect with BB Desktop Manager to sync calendars, contacts, etc. but no media
Although the computer and the Phone communicate via Desktop Manager, my BB device does not show up in finder
I get an error message that says mass media storage mode must be activated
I have activated these features under Options/Media Card: Media Card Support - On; Encryption Mode - None; Mass Storage Mode Support - On; Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - Yes
I have reformatted my Micro SDHC card

  • 8120 Media Sync - "Your device is not recognized by Blackberry Media Sync"

I got a new (refurbished from ebay) Pearl 8120.  I just downloaded the newest Desktop Manager and Media Sync software.  The Desktop Manager  works fine with the Pearl.  The 8GB microSDHC card was formatted and has worked fine in the phone so far.  However, when I try to use the Media Sync software, I get this error:
"Your device is not recognized by Blackberry Media Sync.  Please check that
    (1) a memory card is installed correctly in your Blackberry device
    (2) mass storage mode is turned on for your blackberry device."
I have checked both these things.  I have tried running the program in XP compatibility mode and as administrator.  Also, my computer doesn't recognize the phone as a mass storage device (is it supposed to?).  I can always use my card reader to put files on my card, but I'd like to be able to use the Media Sync software.
    My OS is version 4.5.0.124
edit: Now it sometimes tells me "You need to turn on mass storage mode from the connected Blackberry Device and click Retry.  This may require you to reconnect your device."
In my settings I have Mass Storage Mode Support: On.  Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: Yes.
I've reconnected the device and everything.  I've reloaded the card and restarted the phone.  Media Sync still gives me errors and Windows still doesn't see the phone as a mass storage device.

Hi, a simple solution is to take out humbly your previous phone from the closet (or thrashbin), put the microSD card into it and connect it to PC again. And you thought you would never use it again once you have that "awesome" Blackberry... :-)
I did this with my Nokia 6120. Also works with any standard microSD reader.

  • Mass storage

I am trying to transfer media files to my blackberry, when loading the software it comes with an error msg "music services failed to load, an unexpected error as occurred" any ideas
also how do I get me phone to be in mass storage mode.
    Many thanks

At what point (what are you doing) when you get that error message?
    1. Go to Options >> Media Card (or Memory on some devices).
(some themes or BlackBerrys may call this "Settings >> Media Card")
    2. Check the following settings (if they are not listed this way, then change to reflect the following:
    a) Media Card Support: On
    b) Mass Storage Mode Support: On
    c) Auto Enable Mass Storage: Yes
    3. Save the settings and exit
