Media Sync & iTunes on a Network Drive - when????

Ok so I was excited to install Media Sync and find my Blackberry only for the playlists to appear but greyed so I can't select them.
All my MP3s are ripped from CD and are DRM-free.  Searching on here suggests that my problem is due to my iTunes Library sitting on a NAS....
So this is a known problem, Media Sync 2.0 has been released and no sign of correcting this problem...
Anyone know when or even if this is going to get solved?  No point hyping the software if it can't cope with what I assume is an increasingly normal way to use iTunes??

The drive is mapped, still doesn't work

  • ITunes Media folder organization on a network drive

I have a problem with a strange behaviour of iTunes media folder organization on my network drive.
Option "keep iTunes Media folder organized" is enabled.
If the Media folder is on a local drive or the Media folder is replaced by an alias pointing to a folder on an external drive it works correctly.
(Correctly means subfolders like "music" are generated by iTunes.)
But if the Media folder is an alias that points to a networkdrive directly (instead of pointing to a folder in that drive) iTunes does not create the subfolders anymore.
What is the reason for that behaviour, how can it be fixed?

Thanks for the feedback, but with the iPhone (I use the calendar feature a lot), synchronising just became a very common event, and perpetual re-connecting will drive me insane.
    I guess I will just live with what we have until the folks at Apple figure it out;

I would like to sync ITUNES to my IPOD.  When I click on devices the sync is greyed out.  can anyone help.  I am running Windows 8

You need to select your iPod in iTunes.  The command (from the menu bar?) is disabled because you have not selected a device for which the command is applicable.
The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, find and select the iPod under DEVICES.
Once the iPod is selected, you can select the Sync command under File -> Devices in the menu bar.  You can also just click the Sync button at the bottom left corner of the iTunes window (when the iPod is selected).

  • Can I install itunes on a network drive?

Can I install itunes on a network drive? How?

Your virtual drive still needs a physical drive to live on. You can move your iTunes library to any drive big enough to hold it, e.g. an additional internal drive, an external drive, a network share, it's up to you. What you can't do is put a quart into a pint pot.

  • ITunes library on network drive problems

Library source folder (on my network drive) defaults to the original folder locaton on my iBook after an, as of yet, undetermined time. How do I define the library source folder for iTunes on my network drive and force it to keep that location?
    Thanks.

On startup, iTunes checks the presence of the 'iTunes Music' folder as set in Preferences>Advanced>General.
If it doesn't find it, it will reset that location.
There is no way of forcing iTunes to keep the location.
iTunes must have a folder to store the next imports. That's the reason why it resets the location if it can't find the designated 'itunes Music' folder.
Always be sure your network drive is available before running iTunes.
    Hope this helps.

1.Open about:config in Firefox (simply type about:config into the address bar and hit enter, if you doing it for the first time, you may have to promise you are going to be careful)
    2. Search for keyword.url from the filter box at the top.
3.Double click on this entry. It will open a dialog where you can edit the ‘keyword.url’ string
    4. delete anything in there (if there is anything) and copy in the following:

  • Long Time to Sync Music (Media Player, with files on network drive)

    Hello there,
I've set up my fab new Curve 8520 with the new version of Desktop Software. Sync is working fine for Outlook organizier information.
I use Media Player to manage my music. The library is on my PC, but the mp3 files themselves are on a network drive (mapped as a drive letter).
The music sync does work, but it takes ages for it to (1) show the songs / albums / playlists everytime you click the music button (20-30 minutes) and (2) it also takes a similar length of time to sync (even if you only sync one song!)
So it works, but it is not really usable. It seems to me that the Desktop Software is checking every file in the library every time I enter the music button, which is overkill.
Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks.

I think I solved the problem. I just had to switch the location of of the itunes library from the default to the network drive and it found the files. Funny how itunes could find the library to play songs but the ipod couldn't when syncing.

I've got my itunes library stored on a network drive. I'm now setting up a new PC (Windows 8.1). I've installed the latest itunes and pointed it at the network drive. I can see all the music and play it but I don't see any album artwork? Any ideas what I need to do?

I had the entire library on the network drive.  At one time I used it with just the movies on a drive that was plugged into my router but that was a hassle.  So I bought the 4TB network drive hoping this would be an easier solution and I could store everything on it.
It had work fine for a while but I do not know what happened.  Nothing I tried worked.  I successfully moved my library to my USB 3.0 drive and it is working just fine.  I am able to download from the iTunes store now.
Now, I did discover that some movies were missing but I can re-download them easily.
What I don't understand is that if I view my purchases in the iTunes store and tell it to show only movies that are not in my library it shows a whole lot of things that ARE in my library.

  • ITunes on Home Network Drive

I recently bought a Network Drive to store and access all my media files from (including my music). My system is comprised of a desktop computer and two laptops. My problem is that I can only see the library from the laptop I used to transfer all my iTunes music from (my iPod) to my Network drive. My intention was to use the Network Drive as a master place to keep all our music and to be able to update and access songs from any of our computers, does anyone know of a way to accomplish this?
Dell's   Windows XP Pro   Desktop & Laptop

OK, let's see if I got this right. iTunes now supports multiple libraries. So, all I need to do is have two libraries set up on the MBP. One that points to the iTunes library on the network drive. I can then have a second empty library local on the MBP. When I home, I tell iTunes to use the network library and when on travel, tell iTunes to use the empty local library. In the both cases I then go to the Devices section to access the library on the iPod way I normally do. But in the latter case, tell iTunes to not sync.
This is way I do things between my home and work PC anyway. That works for me!
    Thanks,

  • ITunes library on network drive, no longer able to download from store

I have my iTunes library stored on a WD My Cloud drive.  Suddenly today I have found that I cannot download anything from the iTunes store (movies or music).
I get an error saying "The required folder cannot be found.  Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again."
I have the WD drive mapped to Drive M and my iTunes library points to the iTunes folder on that drive.  I have confirmed the drive is up and the connection is good.
I can play music and movies in iTunes from that drive.
I have shut down iTunes and rebooted the computer multiple times.
    I'm running Windows 8.1 x64
    ITunes version 12.1.2.27
I'm looking for any help at all.  I'm getting quite frustrated.
I do have iTunes set to Keep iTunes Media folder organized and also set to Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library

  • Re-establish old itunes library on network drive

After an extended period of not using itunes, I installed it today on my current desktop (Win7-64). Immediately, I had all my prior purchases available which was nice to see. My old library (about 4gb) is on a secondary drive. What's the best way to re-establish access to the old library. I also want these files moved to a network drive which is connected to a different computer and which will not have itunes on it.
I do not wish to use home sharing, and I do not want to use icloud for the old music.
    Thanks for any assistance.

You can press & hold down shift as you launch iTunes to open a library on any path, however performance may be poor with a large library that isn't located on a local drive. The library is easiest to move from one path or computer to another however if it is in a portable form, with the library folder containing the media folder. If needed once the library has been established on your chosen path the library files can be copied to a local (internal or external) drive for improved performance. They can be copied back to the network path and accessed there before moving the library again.
See make a split library portable for some more information.

  • Sharing iTunes from a network drive--what's the best way?

I want to put my iTunes library on a disk drive attached to an Airport Extreme Base Station so that any computer in the house can access it. The catch is I don't want to require any particular computer to be running for any other computer to be able to access music. I can do this by pointing each computer to the iTunes library on the network drive, but I understand that this can result in database corruption if more than one computer is accessing it at the same time. Is that correct, and is there another way to accomplish this? Thanks.

If I am correct that model can be connected to the laptop via USB. I would suggest to connect it via USB to the MacBook, create a catalog on the external drive and import the catalog from your local hard drive into the catalog on your external drive. I would also make the catalog on the external drive the master catalog, the catalog where you import all your travel catalogs. Having said this, don't forget to back the external drive up regularly. Lightroom does not like external drives connected via ethernet cables.

  • ITunes Not Recognizing External Drive when Shuffle is Connected

I recently bought an external hard drive and transferred most of my ITunes library to the drive. I also directed ITunes to find all songs in the external drive. The external drive has generally worked well. However, whenever I connect my Shuffle to my computer's USB port, ITunes becomes unable to locate my song library. When I look in my external hard drive folder, my entire library's missing. But if i unplug the shuffle and restart my computer, all the files are visible again, and ITunes has no problem locating them. Does anyone know what is going on and how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

It sounds like maybe the shuffle and the external hard drive are trying to use the same drive letter. Try changing the drive letter of the shuffle. If you change the letter of the drive iTunes will have problems finding your songs.

  • Can't delete a PDF on a network drive when someone has it open???

I am trying to like PDFs and the benefit they provide, but someone please explain to me why a
file that is meant to be a read-only file, cannot be deleted if someone has it open. Everyone
has read-only access to this drive where the PDF resides, yet when someone opens it, I cannot delete the file. Why
is this, and is there a workaround? Or at the very least, the ability to see WHO has it open? I am working with Excel files, and
it seems much easier to leave it in Excel for this very reason. At least if someone tries to open it, it forces them to open it in read-only
, allowing me the ability to replace that file, rename it, delete it, whatever. Seems like there has to be a fix. If I publish a PDF to a network drive, and realize there is a mistake, and 50 people have now opened it, are you telling me there is nothing I can do?! Doesn't make any sense. Please help!

Read-only only means they can't save any changes.
Excel probably creates a local copy of the file and allows the users on work
on that, while the real file remains unlocked.
Anyway, I'm not an Acrobat engineer so all of this is just guesswork.
If you want, you can ask Adobe to change this behavior here:
