Media Vault 2010

Hi,
My Situation;
I have an HP Media Vault 2010, with the 300 Gb internal HD plus 2 separate 500Gb HDs which I swap. The unit recently stopped working.
My questions;
1. Is there any way for me to recover that data?
2. Does HP currently sell a unit I could use to access those drives?

While the Media Vault may not be a traditional PC format, it still requires an operating system to run. If you replaced the hard drive and did not put the operating system back on it, then it will not function.
Follow the steps for restoring the operating system of the HP Media Vault. Post the results.
There is likely specialized software on the Media Vault Restore disc which acts as a server. The Media Vault application on your PC would connect to this and show your files. After restoring the operating system on the Media Vault that functionality should return.

4 users - 1 hp media vault server

Hey there,
My husband and two kids and I all use Itunes on our own computers. We found that people were purchasing the same songs and apps so we consolidated all of our libraries to a HP Media Vault Server and mapped all of our itunes libraries to this server.
Question 1.
Occassionally itunes changes the location of the library back to the c drive. Any ideas on why this is happening?
Question 2.
When my son purchases a song and it ends up on the server will that song automatically be added to my libary?
Question 3.
If question 2 = no then how do we all keep our libraries up to date with all of our individual purchases?
Question 4
The Media Vault is showing up as a shared library on my list. How does this help me manage my individual library?

You might be able to use the new itunes 9 folder, Automatically add to itunes....but somehow I don't think Apple has implemented this correctly for multiple users.
From this article, sharing music on a single PC, which is basically what you've got except the PC includes the HP media server. See the last lines:

It's the same if another user has purchased music. Either drag it into your library, or use something like iTunes Folder Watch.

Drives for a Media Vault

I have a Ciprico Media Vault (4210 2.5 terabyte) and lost a drive. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement for it. It uses Hitachi Deskstar HDT725025VLA380 250GB SATA drives(Hitachi PN 0A33423). My next question is, did Ciprico do anything to these drives that would make them a proprietary part.

I haven't had a drive fail yet with 99.9% runtime for over 4 years, but I understand that the replacement drives were tested and certified by Ciprico (now defunct). One Stop Systems has now taken over the MediaVault line, and should provide support.

I think it would be safe to purchase the much cheaper non-certified drive, although Ciprico said they would NOT offer support for that.

Can't Delete Some Files on Media Vault

I have hundreds of files on my Media Vault, and I often delete old files I
no longer need. But once in a while I can't delete a file, and get this error
message:"You require permission from Unix User\nobody to make changes to this
file." Does anyone know how I can get in touch with User\nobody so I can ask for
permission?

No, I tried that before I posted. I am the administrator of my systemS.
Actually I'm trying to move the files and directories from a permanent directory (HP defined) to a user defined directory. I was able to move 90% of the data with using the context entry "Move to Folder". I was trying to move the remainder, but I keep getting messages from UNIX that I don't have the authority. I'm running Win 7 Pro on an HP 6250. I have tried to change the permissions to no avail, see attached. Should I try an XP system?
I did check and the files are marked as N (not indexed). I had 3 screen prints but I see no way to include them.

ITunes deletes symlinked folder on Album Artist rename

Hello community,
I experience a very strange behavior of iTunes in combination with Symlinked folders. I use Windows 7 and my folder structure is listed below. I have a Laptop with a 256GB SSD and instead DVD-Drive a 640GB SATA drive.
Drive layout:
C: System (Windows Drive)
D: UserProfile (also symlinked to D:\Username
E: Media
My iTunes DB is about 170GB large including media of all kind. I spread the iTunes Media subfolders among several drive, because I want iTunes to start up very fast, but playing music and syncing my iPhone would not benefit from the fast SSD Drive so I don't want to waste the valuable fast space.
Now when I change the Album Artist of an album iTunes kills/deletes my Music symlink folder after completing the first rename and show the rest of the album as missing files (with the ! in front)
I have discovered that this only happens when iTunes tries to rename/move folders like it does if the Album artist is changed.
I have already tried restricting the permission to the symlinked folder to read even with deny write permissions, but it manages to delete the folder everytime.
I have used a folder junction instead also. All without joy.
The owner of the folder is the Administrators group which my user is a member of. There are several reason I cannot work a a regular user and I do not want to change that.
So did anyone experience this and knows why this is the case? I would be glad to know. Thanks for everybody investing a thought

Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
iTunes and symlinks don't play nicely... They work OK as long as iTunes is only reading data but get all confused when iTunes tries to write back. I recommend you just put the whole library on a drive big enough to hold it all in one go.

I can't publish to an ftp server. can you help?

G'day everyone,
I've made a lovely iWeb site, but am having problems getting it online. I click publish and iWeb is busy for about 2 - 3 hours, eventually ending with this "PUBLISH ERROR" message:
"There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider." I've tried both suggestions, several times.
According to my web host co. I've entered the correct server address, user name, password, path, protocol and port. They also wrote to me "in the files uploaded I dont see any "html" files? I believe you have either not saved your website in the correct format or have failed to upload some content. Please also note that you should (from what I can see) only be uploading files in the jazzpiano.com.au" folder on your MAC to the public_html dir. Not uploading the dir jazzpiano.com.au" itself."

Any advice on how I can get iweb to publish to ftp properly would be most appreciated. It publishes fine to my local folder.

What your hosting service is telling you is correct. You have uploaded the folder - jazzpiano.com.au - and not the files inside it. This is a limitation of the iWeb FTP and why you should follow Ethmoid's suggestion of publishing to a local folder and uploading the contents of the folder produced by iWeb using an FTP application like Cyberduck.

Need help in Importing User, Shared and Journals into Exchange

Hi,
I have been tasked with the following imports into EX07 and EX10 following an acquisition:
Shared MB 12 GB, corrupt pre-nov 2013 archives of users 30GB, shared sent items 4GB, users sent items 80GB. All in .pst format.
4-8TB of journal data to be imported into Enterprise Vault 2010 with EX2010 (in .pst format)
I'm looking for the best approach to get these imports done. Also, need to compile an assessment done on the time and performance ramifications of running these imports into EX as other migrations are currently on. Do I need to parallel run perfmon with
EX counters to monitor while import is running in the background?
Is it a good idea to run import of journal into Enterprise Vault of 4-8 TB data in .pst format in one go?

In addition to Rajith's suggestion, I would like to verify the following things:
In Exchange 2007, you can use the Import-Mailbox cmdlet to import all messages types, including messages, calendar items, contacts, distribution lists, journal entries and so on. Here is an example of importing the mailbox data from the amy.pst file that
is in the Sent Items folder:
Import-Mailbox -Identity amy -PSTFolderPath C:\PSTFiles\amy.pst -IncludeFolders '\Sent Items'
In Exchange 2010, you need to use the New-MailboxImportRequest cmdlet.

ITunes Image and Description Not Updating

Yesterday I updated my image and description in the Feedburner "Smartcast" section. Despite numerous pings of both the feed, and iTunes however, the image and description remain unchanged. It has been over 24 hours with still no signs of life.

Integration of Photo Gallery to web site

We are redesigning our company using DreamWeaver.
While integrating an PhotoShop Elements 5 photo gallery to
our site, we've come across a stumbling block:
Digital Media Vault
page - notice the white area between the bottom of the photo
gallery and the top of the name and address bar at the very bottom
of the page. When you click on any other page, you will notice that
the bottom bar is integrated with the rest of the page. Can anyone
help show us how to eliminate this space?

All clips not showing up in logging bin

the setup:
MacPro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
4GB RAM
OS 10.4.10
Fibre Channel to 2 Media Vaults
FCP 6.0.1
The problem:
We shoot HVX200 to P2 DVCPROHD 720p.
When doing the log & transfer to ingest,
only a few clips out of several are showing up in my bin.
The QTs are being created and show up as captured media on the Media Vault, but only a random few show up in my bin in FCP.
I always set logging bin, I've trashed prefs, and repaired permissions. The workaround is to simply import the clips after they've been converted to QT, but it's a real pain.
Anyone seen this before and have a solution?

I have a similar problem...but I don't get the first few minutes of video. On my iMac screen, I get that the camera is recognized and blue screen. It tells me onscreen when I am "playing" or "seeking forward" etc., but when I try to "import" though, the "import" button no longer works (it worked 1/2 hour before this). I've plugged and unplugged the firewire cords, turned off the camera, checked the tape, etc. To me, it seems to be a software issue. I just tried it on our Intel Macbook Pro and I have no problem importing the video.
The problem seemed to happen after I imported about 8 minutes of video this morning and then when I stopped it gave me a message I've never seen before (something about "organizing video clips") which like the "letterboxing" message seemed to take forever. Under a time crunch, I attempted to quit iMovie during this organizing process. It didn't happen right away, so I went on to do something else. When I returned, it gave me the options of quitting, saving or canceling. I opted to cancel and continue to import. At that point, however, the import button no longer worked.
I work at a university, so I don't have the install disks myself and wonder if anyone else has had this problem and been able to work around it without reinstalling the software. (I can contact our IT people, but it's a real pain and very time consuming to get them here to reinstall...plus, they are not "Mac people" so they like to give me a lot of c.r.a.p. about how PCs don't have this or that issue...sigh).

Setting wallpaper/bmpanel in openbox? [SOLVED]

I am on my first succesful HD install of Arch wirh Openbox right now and I have been documenting some of the things that are giving me issues. If you are curious about how I went about with my installation you can check this thread out:

One of the issues Im having is with themeing and autostart programs. I did a little research and found that in order to have, for instance, my bmpanel and desktop wallpaper start up with x I had to make an autostart.sh under my ~/.config/openbox/ and add this within:

So thats what I make it look like. I have nitrogen and bmpanel (with arch theme) installed and working correctly. The problem is that when i startx and the script runs, it just opens nitrogen with no images selectable. Also bmpanel does start with arch theme but it is not transparant like in the photo available where I downloaded it.
I do have composting available as I have my nvidia drivers installed and i checked that it is working in the terminal, but I am at a loss as to why they arent working correctly. I have checked the documentation for this and found it a little lacking? Anyone know where to go from here?

11.2.0.2, MRP gets cancled with ORA-16037

Hello.
I'm testing ADG in 11.2.0.2 release on RHEL to check if important (for us) bugs are actually fixed.
So im trying to set up a dataguard configuration with two hosts. The problem is that managed recovery on standby gets canceled in about 1-3 minutes claiming that its user who issued the command (which is not true)
If there is something to recover (some archived logs) - MRP recovers them succesfully waits for short time and then cancels.
I tried different options - recover ... noparallel, with and witout SRLs - it behaves the same way and I dont understand the reason why it cancels.

Sorry, I cant reproduce it now because I reistalled rdbms software on primary, rebuilt the standby and now it works as expected.
I'm not sure about the exactly startup sequence, maybe I indeed started my standby instance without mount or nomount options directly up to open mode.
But afterwards I closed instance explicitly with "alter database close" (it produced a warning that it's not a publicly supported command) and issued "recover managed standby database ..." command as i did with old 10g databases.
And after a while MRP process canceled itself and instance opened in RO mode automatically.
Maybe open is that thing that implicitly caused MRP to cancel, so I need to find out who opened my standby database while I wanted it to remain closed and recovering.

Trying to install Highpoint RocketRAID 2720SGL

I'm doing a bit of experimenting at the moment and this involves a RR 2720SGL card. I previously had it installed in a HP Microserver and was able to compile the driver on that (Open Media Vault). I've moved the card to my main Arch x86_64 PC but the driver compilation failed at the very start. I suspect it may be something to do with my kernel version. I'm using 3.11.1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT but the manufacturer's website states it only supports up to 3.8.4

I am new at working the Extreme and Express-- however I found that when you run the AirPort Utility, then select manual settings, then click on wireless devices (where it shows actual # of clients connected)that a new window is opened that shows the attached devices by IP address and MAC, if you then click the DHCP tab at the top of this pane it will also show the non-wireless devices. Now I have noted that not all of my devices will show up here-- I have been having trouble getting a HP Media Vault recognized. It is connected by ethernet to the Extreme and shows up on my Vista PC's Norton network map...

XW8600 Drive Support

Hello all.
I have an XW8600 running dual X5440 processors and 6 GB of ram. I want to turn this system into a home media NAS server runing FreeNas or Open Media Vault and have a few questions.
First off, I have read in a few places this system cannot handle 6 Gb/s SATA drives on its 3 Gbp/s ports. I have upgraded the bios firmware of the board to the lastest version, and currently have a WD RED 2TB drive connected to one of the SATA ports and its running fine. Windows Vista was on it for testing for a week, and Open Media Vault is currently on it and running for testing before jumping into the project head first. Are these 6Gbp/s ddriver compatable as of yet? Has the drive firmware issue been resovled ont hese newer drives? I read here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02711513&lang=en&cc=us&taskI... that HP has worked with the hard disk drive vendors so that all 6Gbps SATA hard drives provided by HP will work on 3Gb/s and 1.5Gb/s ports. Have the other venders such as Western Digital included these fixes in their own firmware as well? I plan on adding 4 or 5 more in total and before I drop the money on them I want to make sure I'm not going to run into issues.
My second question is - Can I run SATA drives in the SAS ports as well? I know SAS is backwards comptable with SATA, but I am wondering if mixing SATA drives in the SATA ports and SATA drives in the SAS ports is going to cause problems. I plan on creating two virtual disks in software RAID 5 - one for the SATA ports and a seperate VD for the SAS ports. Will this be an issue?
