MediaHub nmh410

Hi I am having problems logging on to my hub I have tried resets but no beeps am getting an IP address of 169.254.43.117 but no connections to or from the router or computer Anyone with an Idea?
Solved!

The mediahub’s HDD has been formatted to raiser FS, so you need to have either a linux based computer or install a linux based software (installed on a windows computer) that could read raiser FS.

  • Looking To Buy MediaHub NMH410 = DirecTV HR2x Settop Work ?

I'm a long time Home AV nut.....built my own HTPC, now use my DirecTV HR22 settop to take a video stream from my home PC (Windows XP Pro SP3) where it serves video, MP3s and pics/JPEGs to the TV.  However, I don't like the idea of the PCs been booted all the time and have been looking for a good Media NAS.  The issue/limitation with the HR22 settop is that it only can run MPEG2 in Transport Stream.  Thus, I convert my videos to this format no problem.
Anyway, I've been reading the 103page MediaHub manual and on page 13 it says............
"The Media Hub can stream media content to other uPnP AV-enabled (or DLNA-certified) devices, such as digital media adapter or a gaming console with a built in media player".  The DTV HR22 connects to my Home PC thru UPnP (thru Linksys WRT54G Router) but is NOT DLNA certified.  I also have concern with the comment/statement of "built in media player".  I assume since the HR22 decodes MP2/TS that this is really what is meant by the media player statement ?
As FYI....here is DTV Forum link on NAS
    http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=110408

Yup, the Xstreamer is a media player, however, I don't see that it is a NAS too that can store files.....am I missing something ?  There are a bunch on the market and best one I've seen is the new one from Netgear...mostly because of the wide range of codecs it supports.
    http://www.netgear.com/Products/Entertainment/DigitalMediaPlayers/EVA9100.aspx
I do have a multi-point switch in my A/V rack that routes all my A/V components/units to all TVs via Component Video.  I could put one of these Media Players in the rack and have it access and decode a general/standard NAS.  However, I wanted to avoid the $150-$250 expense of these Media Player boxes and just use a NAS that by itself is a Media Server.  My DTV DVR HD Settops are uPnP and handle streams from PCs that have WMP11 or Twonky or Tversity running on them....I have mine working thru WMP11.  However, I want my PCs shutdown so when I'm out anyone (wife) can access thru any TV (via Settop) the Media Hub/NAS.  I've been looking at the Cisco Hub since I saw it at FRYS for $389 w/1TB HDD.  Unitl then I've been looking at the NetGear READYNAS Pioneer Pro....awesome box but $1300 with no HDDs.
    http://www.netgear.com/Products/Storage/ReadyNASProPE.aspx
Anyway, I've been reading up on this Cisco Media Hub and while the specs look good the reviews-comments on this Forum are really ugly....eg the RESCAN issue thread-sticky.  The link on the Twonky Media Server (www.mediahub:9000) on this and the lack of response/updates from Cisco since mid 2009 are very disturbing.  I'm sure they have great intentions but as a potential buyer I'm spooked that this box is not ready for prime-time.

  • NMH410 - 2 Hard Disks

    1. I bought a 2nd HD to my NMH410 (1.0 TB WD Caviar Green each). I configured it to RAID1. How can I be sure that HD2 is a mirror of HD1 ? Can I check it ? Can I take out HD1 and see whether the information exists on HD2 ?
    2. Can I replace HD1 with HD2 (i.e. put HD2 in slot #1 and put HD1 in slot #2) ? (the new HD I added is faster than the old HD).

    Hi,
First of all, you need to check if your hard drive is part of the hardware tested list to work with the mediahub, check this link NMH Series Hardware Tested List
Now, if your hard drive is part of the list, then it's good to go. To check the status of the HD, you can simply take out one of your hard drive and make sure that the remaining hard drive is placed on Bay 1 of your mediahub. Aside from that, there is a feature under the configuration page wherein it will give us info about the status/health of your drives, check this link Checking the Status of Hard Drives
    Cheers!

  • MediaHub reset, FTP password gone

As I was encoutering some problems with my MediaHub (could not activate external access anymore, firmware update would not work anymore) I did a full reset.
After that my MediaHub updraged automatically to firmware 3.18.5, but now the options for using the FTP with password protection is gone. Even so the option for a guest user.
Especially the password protection for FTP is important for me. How can thos be restored again?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi there!
Since you've done a "reset", the mediahub settings went back to default settings. You need to reperform the configuration of the mediahub to have the FTP feature enabled.
Here's what you need to do, access the mediahub "Configuration" page then select the "Services" tab. From there, scroll down and look for "FTP Server". Select "Configure" then put a check on "Enable FTP Server" and if you wish to have a password enabled FTP then select "Require Username and Password for FTP Access". Just click "submit" and everything should be saved.
    Hope this could help, cheers!

  • Cisco, make the Mediahub webinterface open-source.

It is a bold sugestion and probably never going to happen but, (as we say in Holland) you always miss of you don't shoot.
The Mediahub webinterface is not near working properly and I don't think Cisco wants to put a lot of effort in it. So, my suggestion: hand the whole source over to the community and we (A friend and I, hope to find some more programmers overcourse) will get it started.
Cisco, release the source and lets start killing bugs like a monster. If you prefer it to be done by a proffesional third party: de Monsters are willing to strike a deal.

Not a half bad idea - if Cisco doesn't want to invest anymore in this product open source seems like a good idea.

  • NMH410 some files have become inaccessible

The hardware: brand-new NMH410 with two WD 1TB drives, configured as RAID-1.
    The firmware: 3.18.15.
The clients: Linux 2.6.31 kernel, Kubuntu Karmic Koala
Over the past days I've copied over my media library to the NMH410 ... so far so good.
This day I face the strange situation that I get access denied to several files in my media/music subdirectories. I can see from my Linux clients that the files exist and I can also see that they should be readable. However, whenever I try to access these files, I get access denied.
Using the flash-based browser I can access these files, copy them around, et cetera. However, if I do make copies, then I cannot access these copies either. Seems to consistently getting the wrong access rights in the NMH410.
Resetting to factory defaults did not help either. Cleared the browser cache, reloaded. Disconnected SMB clients, attached them anew ... problem still persists. Most files are accessible, quite some audio files aren't anymore.
What am I doing wrong here? I'm totally dazzled.

The router isn't involved at all as the traffic is kept inhouse and traverses just a switch; plain level 2 business, no layer 3 involved. Rebooting linux (the kernel you mean?) is not required as the CIFS is nowadays more or less run in user space, if I remember correctly. Dropping mounts cleans up. No reboot or session logout required. Even almost all software package updates, even if they are concerning system daemons and libraries, are done without any reboot. Win7 has an extremely long road to travel to come even close. I have reasons to only use Linux. In office I get paid to loose time with XP. At home I want to be effective.
Oh, and as support was stubborn to insist on windows I grabbed my office laptop with WinXP and gave it a fresh try. Guess what: same result, who could have expected? You know, SAMBA is nowadays better in terms of compatibility between different SMB/CIFS protocol, server, and client versions than microsoft itself. In fact, SAMBA servers and clients on Linux are better at working around errors in Microsofts implementations than Microsofts code. No wonder that Microsoft is not able to document SMB properly, only the SAMBA project has delivered so far.
Together with a support person we found out that the NMH 410 is slowly killing itself by assigning wrong user/group ids to inodes -- well, basically I found that out and the support then more or less agreed and acknowledged. However, Linksys has no idea why the NMH is doing this. I got the advice to backup everything to a locally attached USB disk -- the only thing that worked at this point --, then to delete all files and to copy the files back.
While the backup procedure worked successfully, copying back resulted in complete desaster which even rendered the shared without access! The NMH 410 was, for whatever reason, changing ownership of the share directories to 0/0, thus rendering access impossible to the SAMBA server process. It seems that the webserver is running under root, arrrrgh! Bad design!
The next support person told me to remove the eSATA disks and to reformat them -- he probably meant to kill any partition setup. He didn't care about that I don't have any eSATA bays and interfaces at hand and don't want to drive to a shop just to buy then in order to get the self-hanging unit to work again. After he refused to help and insisted on me having to reformat the drives outside the NMH 410 I ignored his ignorance and phoned Syslink support.
The worked better and I was quickly told to try to completely reset the unit by powering off for more than 30s, then pressing reset and powering up, yet holding reset for more than 30s. I was told this should put the unit into disk repartition/reformat mode. Tried that two times, but the NMH 410 just came up (as expected) with only some settings reset, but the file system untouched and with the wrong owner/group settings. Still no access.
It seems that the problems started when I put the NMH 410 the second day after I purchased it from RAID-0 to RAID-1 with some data already on it. Thus, I put the unit back to single disc use, which causes the file system to be generated anew. This seems to be the only way to do it; two support persons didn't know this, only the third one was aware of this method albeit he suggested the non-working 30s reset procedure.
Finally converted the disks with the fresh file system to RAID-1 ... well, still waiting for the conversion to finish. After that will have finished, I will try to restore some files from the FAT32 USB disk, using FTP as suggested (eeek!). We will see.
After all the years this is the first Linux system I have come across that it killing access to it by randomly assigning wrong user/group ownerships to inodes. This seems to have required brilliant craftmenship by Linksys to make Linux behave in such a braindead manner. My confidence in Linksys and especially this product has totally gone away. Support is awful.

  • NMH410 as a external hard drive & upload files through web browser

    Hi,
I had just installed a NMH410 and has some questions as follow:
Can NMH410 be used as an external HDD without internet?
Is there anywhere I can upload files through the web browser?

    mosidiot wrote:

Yes - The NMH is a local network device, and you can store/retrieve files on it using the computers on your home network using either Windows Explorer, or connecting to it in Linux/MacOS as a Samba share.
However: The NMH requires an Internet connection to dowload firmware updates, and - If my experiences today are anything to go on - You'll need to have up to date Flash support in your web browser to be able to configure and administrate the thing.
(See the new thread that I'll be posting in this forum shortly.)
    mosidiot wrote:

Yes - The NMH does support uploading via a web browser as long as the latter has a recent Flash plugin installed. For small numbers of files, this should work fine...But for larger numbers of files, I'd suggest using either Windows Explorer, or the Media Importer program that came on the enclosed CD-ROM. :-)
You can find full details and instructions for doing both of the above in the NMH 4xx user guide, which may be downloaded Here. :-)

  • HDD compatible with NMH410

    Hi all,
I see WD WD20EVDS in the list of compatible HDDs, My question is will WD WD20EARS will work fine too? Their specs seem to be similiar to me but EARS is a little bit cheaper.

    hey there,
i also think that WD20EVDS and WD20EARS have the a similar specs but it seems that the WD20EVDS is
really intended for audio/ video devices like the network mediahub.you might want to check this out.

  • Any updates on NMH410..

I just don't understand that some folders arent visible on my NMH410..
Will there be any software updates on this?

    I give an example..
I made one 007 movie in handbrake (mac) and put in one folder called 007, created under media/movie..
Then I took my NAD Blu Ray player (T577) and connected it to my NMH410 wireless.. I can't see the folder 007. Then I change the name of the folder to James Bond, then I can see the folder and play the movie.. Then I change the name back to 007 and I can still see the folder.. This is strange.
Next movie is Harry Potter, I can't see that folder at all..
If I go to mediecenter (linksys) it works well on my mac, I can see it all, but not from blu ray player (which have network possibility)
I also use Sonos and it works great with folder outside the main folders.

  • NMH410 Drive Refresh

I quite like the look of the browser to play the music I have stored on my drive though nothing is showing up when I click on the music icon! If I go through to the 'file browser' all my music shows up there in the music folder which was already there. I read on the forum that for my music to show up in the browser I need to refresh - which I did! The problem I am having, and I have tried this several times, is that it is taking a considerable amount of time! It has been refreshing for 2 days now and is still on 0%. Ok I have 800 gb of music etc but surely there should be some progress? Hope someone can help!
     Thanks in advance...Paul

That is correct it will not delete the files on your HDD if you reset the mediahub. As what you’ve stated, it appears that the media files have not indexed at all on your media browser. I just want to verify if how you saved the media files to your HDD, did you use the backup utility or did you just drag and drop the files. As a work around just make sure that your media files has not been saved to more than 2 sub folder for it to be properly detected.  As an additional troubleshooting, don’t forget to upgrade the firmware after resetting the mediahub.

  • NMH410 Firmware Upgrading Error

    Hello everyone,
I recently upgraded the HDDs on my NMH410 and basically it resets everything and even roles back the firmware.
But this time around I couldn't manage make it upgrade. Everytime I receive this error message:
    "Error - Result"
Firmware Upgrade has encountered an error. Upgrade Aborted!
There is a thread on this forum suggesting to change the DNS Server but it didn't work for me either.
What to do? Anyone having or had similar issues? Is it something from the Cisco's side?
Is there a way to sideload the firmware or force to install it by directly accessing the hub?

Here's an article that might help you: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=ec5f31fe7f0f4a8c9a89a...

  • NMH410 - Drive Access Issues

    Hey Everyone
Hopefully someone can advise me what might be wrong with this as its the second time its happened.
It seems that when the drive capacity reaches a certain level or when its been running for so long, the drive just won't let me copy files across.
Up until about 3 days ago everything was working fine. No changes in network or anything. All of a sudden whenever I am trying to copy files I am getting "The network name is no longer available". Now i am at this point still browsing it through file explorer.
I have attached an image of my drive setup:
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/nmh410drivesettings0604.png/
Basically previously to this I had 2 2tb wd drives in, and this happened. Removed the drives, reset everything to factory default, reformatted 2 other drives (2tb and a 1tb) via linux and then put back. That was about 3/4 months ago, and all of a sudden here we go again, crapping out when trying to copy files.
Anyone have any ideas whats going on?
Side question: Does anyone know if its possible to install an alternative firmware on it?

    Hi fhizoo8
    (a) What's the size of the file that you are trying to import?
I have thus far tried various files ranging from 50mb to >2.2gb. All fail.
It tries to copy them but then it just gets messages saying "the specified network name is no longer available".
    (b) What are you using to copy the files?
Originally just copying across using a mapped neetwork path. Copying from a windows server 2008 box to the NMH410 as I have always been doing, only at this moment has it started getting odd. Replaced Windows file copying with TeraCopy, but same result. During this the drive is fully accessible, and I can browse and read files all I want.
Definitley not network congestion issue, there's no net congestion on network when I have been running my tests at all, it just craps out. I have another 2 dlink boxes which are about 5 years old, and they are working fine, copying etc from the same server.
Basically drive setup is 1 x 2tb and 1 1.5tb drive, raided together. Someone suggested I may be hitting some sort of a 2tb limit, because I am trying to copy files onto the drive and its now > 2tb
    Any other ideas?

  • How to uninstall NMH410 media hub software?

I pulled this media storage device out of storage room and hooked it up to our Ethernet switch, hoping to save and share photos in our home.
It is no longer supported now, and very complex to set up. Very little support materials to find. I decided to get rid of it, unplugged from our switch, put away. Pop-up NIGHTMARE now, getting pop up every 30 seconds that reads:
"There was a problem connecting to the server "CiscoMediaHub". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
The pop-up error happened 10 times while typing this. HELP!
To uninstall software on Mac, think just put in trash. I have a MacBook Pro. What are the software names so I can trash this?

I agree. This device is really hard to deal with. I managed to backup my friend's files before by using TeraCopy and uninstalled Linksys Media Importer Tool. I used TeraCopy due to frequent disconnection from the hub if ever I'll be using the built-in copy dialog of Windows.
Anyways, I was able to find some article that tackles with connectivity issues. No direct answer though. I wish this device can be accessed via SSH or telnet so that it will be easier to move around.
Somewhat a very expensive, half-baked NAS. NAS200 is even better than this. Good thing it ended it's life now.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • How to get MediaHub to import other files

Media Importer uses a file call BackupSets.xml which defines the file types that will be imported.  Unfortunately, as deleivered, it only knows JPG and PNG files.  That didn't suit me so I've edited my file and am currently importing the RAW files from my DSLR.
For Win XP users, go to: C:\Program Files\Cisco Media Hub\Linksys Media Importer and open the BackupSets.xml file with Notepad.
For Windows 7 go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Media Hub\Linksys Media Importer
With Win 7, I found the directory was Read Only so that had to be removed in order to save the edited backupsets.xml
    The line now reads:
You will need Administrator rights to do that. Right click on the directory name and select Properties.
    Edit the line:
    <FileType name="Other Image Types" masks="*.png"/>
to add the file extensions you need. For mine, I added *.PEF (Pentax RAW files) and *.RAW as well as TIF, TIFF, and DNG
    My line now reads:
    <FileType name="Other Image Types" masks="*.png;*.pef;*.raw;*.dng;*.tif;*.tiff"/>
I have not included BMP nor GIF as I don't save images in those formats.
Save the XML file. The next time you start the Media Hub, it should import the files. Mine did.
I'm thinking of adding the Adobe Lightroom catalogue file extension *.lrcat
