MediaSmart Server v1 Reboot on Connection

Hi! Since I installed Windows 10 on one of my personnal computers (without changing anything to the server), I can't connect to my HP MediaSmart Server to administrate it. After I enter my authentification (username and password), whether it's with the console (connector), a RDP session, or from the web interface, the server reboots (health light flashing)... I tried connecting to the server from different computers and it always has that same behavior. Despite that problem, I can access the shared folders and the automatic backups of our personal computers still work. Do you have any ideas that could help solve this problem or do I have to try a server resoration with my recovery disk? Thank you

  • Mac OS 8.6 Auto network connect to a server after reboot is not working

We have multiple old blue and white systems on a network. All but one will automatically connect to the network when rebooted. I have gone into Chooser, Appletalk, put in the server IP address, put in the server password, checked the boxes that say remember Server name and password for next startup. I can connect at that time with no problem. When I reboot, the server does not automatically hook up. I have to go back into Chooser, etc. I created an alias on the desktop, but it still prompts me for a password to connect. I have performed a clean install of the Mac OS 8.6. It still does not connect to the server after reboot (after configuring all the settings again after the clean install). Please help..

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Can you please create the database manually with below command and verify.

  • HP MediaSmart Server EX490 - Unable to find server/install Connector

    Hi,
Would really appreciate any help on this issue since I am at my wit's end.  I have a EX490 with 2 2TB drives on it.  Been so long ago but pretty sure one is a backup of the other.
I began to have trouble logging in to the Windows Home Server Console a couple of weeks ago but didn't think much of it because I could still access the mapped drives on my computer.  I had chalked it up to me typing in the wrong password.
Well, the hard drive on my computer crapped out and had to reformat it.  However, whenever I try to install the Windows Home Connector, it tells me that it can't find my server.  I get that same error message when I try to install the software on any other computer.
I'm starting to freak out a bit because I'm afraid I won't be able to access all the pictures and videos on the EX490.
I've tried searching Google for solutions but all the solutions involve accessing the server somehow and I'm not able to do so.  My next attempt is to take out one of the drives and connect it to my desktop as a hard drive but need to run out to the store to buy another SATA cable.  Not sure if that will work but don't really know what else to do.
Any advice or insight would be greatfully appreciated.  Thanks!

  • HP MediaSmart Server EX475 Backup stopped working

I have an HP MediaSmart Server EX475 (service pack 3).  My network includes a Linksys WiFi router, computer A (Win 7) attached by a cable to the router, computer H (Win 8.1) seen by the router via WiFi connection.  I also have a Grace Digital Internet Radio via WiFi and an HP DreamScreen 100 connected via WiFi.
All of a sudden the backups of Herb stopped and I can't restart them.  Even "backup now" doesn't work.  I can sometimes log into the media server from Herb otehr times in tells me that I have no network connection.  I have had no problem accessing the internet or getting email.  When I access the Backup service on the Media server I can see both computers but H is greyed out and I can't perform any of the functions.  Any ideas

  • Can't access ex495 mediasmart server

My HP EX495 media smart server is runnng Windows Home Server.  The device went off-line the other day and I could not connect to the device through ethernet nor USB.  The nick has a solid green light and a flashing yellow lignt.  My guess is it is sending out a signal but not receiving one.  Any idea how to fix the problem?  I've tried rebooting; sending WOL messages; reseating the drives; but still can not access it.
Any guidance would be apprciated.  Thank you.

Try this? HP MediaSmart Server EX490 - Solution to LAN going offline at boot-up ‎05-18-2013 03:09 AM After swapping out a defective Netgear router, I started to experience problems with my MediaSmart server going offline immediately after boot-up. I could also see from the router stats that the EX490 established an Ethernet connection at 10Mbps when powered off, but not following boot-up. I could even use WOL to start the server, but it would drop the LAN connection shortly afterwards, without ever coming online. I tried various Cat-5 cables and 3 different routers, but I could not get the aqua LAN LED to stay on for more than about 30 seconds after boot. I could see the yellow LED on the RJ45 NIC port flash very occasionally, but that was about it. I managed to establish a PC to EX490 direct connection and so could get into the server via Remote Desktop, which again suggested there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the NIC port or cables. I tried upgrading the Realtec PCIe driver to no effect, checked there were no conflicting LAN addresses, DHCP services, etc., etc., and even considered doing a server rebuild. Eventually, I found a solution that works for me. Using the peer-to-peer LAN connection and Remote Desktop, go to the EX490 Device Manager, select the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Properties, Advanced Tab and scroll down through the Property window to Speed and Duplex. Change Auto Negotiation to 100Mbps Full Duplex, save and reboot the server. It seems in my case that the EX490 is no longer coping with negotiating connection to a Gigabit LAN (still not sure why), but slowing the card down to 100Mbps is giving me a rock-solid connection. I hope this post will help others who may be contemplating using their MediaSmart as an expensive bookend or doorstop.

  • Mediasmart server EX495 Blank Contents screen

Ofr the last week or so, I can not get the content screen to show after connecting from any of my clients. I getthe password screen when I try to get to the console. then the progress screen appears. But then instead of the console screen I get the background screen only no matter how long I leave it be. It never goes beyond that.
At the same time, using any of the MS Office applications to load an office document from the shared folders on the server freezes the applicaton. Even Outlook 2007 freezes just opening it (I have Outlook email to the shared folders on the server).
The only remedy I can find is to manually reboot the server which resolves the problem for about 30 minutes then it all happens over again.  This full problem started this morning. Oh yes, all the lights on teh server indicate a go status. And when I reboot the server and can get into the console, everything is in order.
I just bought this one when me original Mediasmart server EX470 with the original WHS software w/PP2 finally crashed and I could not revive it (RIP).
Anyne else having a similar problem?

I wanted to provide an update. Spotify 1.0.1.1060.gc75ebdfd appears to have changed behavior. HTTP proxy support appears to be removed now (I can't even play music using my previous prefs). I can enable my HTTPS proxy by editing the prefs file as before. I should be able to do this now through Spotify's settings, but it looks like there's a bug in the settings panel where it seems to require a username and password before saving (my proxy doesn't require a username and password). This time, change the @http back to @https. Here's how my proxy settings now look under 1.0.1.1060.gc75ebdfd:
    network.proxy.addr="proxyout.xxx.xxx:8080@https"
    network.proxy.mode=2
This allows me to play music and view most images. The only remaining problem is that now I'm still seeing instances where album art and other images aren't downloaded. It's not as prevalent as before, but I do see it when browsing, for example, the News tab under Browse.

  • Server Admin refuses to connect, servermgrd runs but no ports are open

Server Admin refuses to connect to server when run locally or remotely. Upon investigating, servermgrd seems to run but when I run network utilities and port scan the server, neither port 311 or 687 are open. All other services appear to be running fine. No firewall is running. Server Monitor also has the same problems but WorkGroup Manager seems to work fine.
About 3 weeks ago, I had the problem and after trying many things, I did a clean install but the problem has reappeared after a few days/weeks.
At some point, servermgrd was crashing with a message about NSURL.... (lost and forgot the exact message).
-Tried to remove all the files in /private/var/servermgrd/
This solved the crashes but it now runs without opening the ports. After starting, it doesn't run away and consume any CPU.
Could not locate in system.log, console.log and servermgr.log any error messages indicatind something is wrong with servermgrd.
The log does show that server names are coherent.
Apr 18 23:06:31 server-1 servermgrd: servermgr_dns: hostname and DNS entries for this server are synchronized
    - Tried rebooting.
    - Tried running servermgrd with various flags, including alternate port but nothing happen. In fact the alternate ports do noot seem to get open. Even passing faulty options, it runs without complaining !
    - Tried to reinstall the admin tools
    - Tried to remove keychain paswords entries
    - Tried Disk Utilities repair permissions.
Searching the posts, found somebody talkingabout servermgr_ctl
I'm starting to suspect some hardware failure (RAM).
Any suggestion how to test the ram.
    Running out of idea.
    Desperate for solution.
    Background
    OS X Server 10.4.9
Server Admin version Version 10.4.7 (157.8)
Xserve Dual G4 with 2 GB ram.   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Ok, I ran memtest 4.2 and discovered the ram was failing, In replacing the dimm, they started working again so it may have been a mis-seated dimm module or some oxidation on the contact. My file system was already corrupt despite it being a fresh install. Then I checked and notice that the file com.apple.servermgrd.plist in Library preferences was gone. Either I stuppidly deleted it trying to fix the problem or it was hosed by the memory/file system corruption. Anyway, I copied it from another server and Both Server Admin and Server Monitor are now working.
    SOLVED.
PS: in view of this event, once I'm satisfied the memory issues is solved, I'll do again a clean install. Who know what else was corrupted.

  • HP Mediasmart server keeps disconnecting from shared library

    Hi
Just move to an Imac from a windows machine so I hope someone could assist me?
I have a HP mediasmart server that stores my music and under the shared headings in Itunes it recognises it, clicking on it shows "loading HP mediasmart server" for about 10 seconds then it disappears and keeps looping round.
My Macbook pro has not trouble connecting to it and it remains connected
Can any one point me in the right direction
    regards

Resolved. If anyone has the same problem its because there is a corrupt song that crashes the fire-play server running on WHS. Remove the song a it all works

  • Server stating client not connected even though it is on

We often have trouble where the server will state the computer is not connected even though it is on. Sometimes restarting the local service will cause the server to see it connected again. Most time we need to reboot the machine altogether.
Is there a way to force the server to recheck if the computer is connected. A command on the server or the remote pc?

What setting do you have for how often the Collection Client checks in? Default is 180min and that time differential could be your gap for when it updates status.
    Just a thought.

  • WRT610N V1 will not allow port forwarding via HP Mediasmart Server

I have the WRT620N router and an HP MediaSmart server connected to it.  My source is a cable modem.  WHen I try to set up the server for remote access, the router is not found.  I am continually getting "Port Forwarding failed" errors from the server.  I also have several iPhone apps used to control devices on the network (DVR, BluRay player, etc) that will not connect.  (These worked before I changed to this router.)
I have verified that the UPnP is enabled.
I have been struggling with this issue for several months and have not had any luck getting help from the forums, but will tryi again.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Did you tried to enable Remote Management Access on the router setup page?
If no, then Enable Remote Management Access under Administration tab and then check.

  • HP MediaSmart Server EX485 keeps restarting

I have a HP MediaSmart Server EX485 and it keeps rebooting. If I shut it off for awhile it boots up normal. Is this a powersuppy issue, or a overheating Issue?

  • Server Admin won't connect (not even locally)

One of my customers' machine crashed and had to be rebooted (So they say). I was not on site at the time and someone else with a "bit of knowledge" fiddled with the machine and tried to resurrect it (instead of leaving it for me to sort it out). Ever since there is no access to the server via the Server Admin (no server found) although the server is running fine and people are working from it. The Workgroup Manager is operational, though no sharing access is possible, only user privileges can be modified. The syslog reports the following message:
----"Feb 21 06:54:13 XServe servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no hostname set and unable to detect via DNS, services may not function properly - use changeip to repair
Feb 21 07:24:13 XServe servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no name available via DNS for 192.168.0.2"----
Very strange. I can ping it, the IP is fixed anyway and I have access to the machine via ARD 3 no probs, but both server manager and server monitor fail to connect, even locally. Something somehow went wrong and I haven't got a clue. Rebooted the machine, done the usual things to no avail.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Machine is on 10.4.8 and its a dual G5 with one Gig RAM. I noticed that the activity monitor reports more than half the system memory as 'inactive', leaving precious little free mem. The systm disk is 80 Gigs with 30 Gigs free.
XServe G5 Dual - 2 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.8) 1 Gig RAM, ext. RAID
    XServe   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi
I had a similar situation on a server I was called in to have a look at after it was upgraded via software update from 10.4.2 to 10.4.8, the Open directory db went corrupt and the server administration tools would not work after that.
In the end I had to ditch the open directory and rebuild the server from scratch as the other IT guy did not have a decent backup.
Have you repaired permissions or tried Disk Warrior on the boot drive?
The DNS thing is something that Apple has inrtroduced in 10.4.8, many people are having the same error show in system.log, see the Network Services section under Mac OS X Server.

  • Question about HP MediaSmart Server and Time Machine

I just got an EX490 MediaSmart server to use for backups and as a media server. I set up the server to serve as a Time Machine backup device, and it seems to work fine. However, when the server is connected and appears as a Share in the Finder, if I use the Finder to navigate to the "Mac" folder on the server, I don't see any files inside. Actually I searched through all visible files on the server and didn't see any files that might be a backup file. I tried turning on Invisible file viewing but that didn't make any difference. I'm assuming that the Time Machine backup file on the server is somehow hidden from viewing.
Does anyone know why the backup file isn't appearing?
    Thanks.

I have been looking at similiar HP NAS model, which now appears to have beome a prior model -
    HP EX485 MediaSmart Home Server
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OI2ZG4/
The prices have gone up slightly, too. The reviews on the above EX485 were almost like a mini review and informative. I assume you've created accounts and perhaps have (need?) a PC to configure Windows Home Server R2 fully? I was waiting for full Windows 7 support which is still in beta.
From what I read, one of the "Missing Bible" for WHS or something helps to get the most out of it and help with setup (though generally that just takes 15 minutes if you know how).

  • MediaSmart server password

I had to do a Factory reset on my HP MediaSmart Server using the recovery disk, but cannot install the Server Console or connector software on my W7 64 bit system because it's not compatible.
I see the serveron my PC and when I try to open it it's asking me for a password. Since the server is connected via network cable on a "local area connection" and not wirelessly, I assume the password needed is a "server" password and not the network password.
What credential/password do I enter here when initially logging on to the server???

    Hello Dcypher64.
Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand your HP MediaSmart server is asking for a password. I'll see what I can do for, providing the best information I can.
I have used a MediaSmart server before. Normally, the password required is "administrator" password. You should be able to enter this password and access the server.
If this does not worked, the server may have to be reset or recovered. These are different than your standard computer so troubleshooting is not as simple. However, HP does possess documents on server recoveries and factory resets. Trying the steps in this document should assist you in resetting the server to a usable point: Using Server Recovery and Factory Reset
This document is particular to the EX470 and EX475 MediaSmart servers, but the steps should be the same. If you would like to provide the exact model of your server, I can find more accurate information. Irregardless, the above information should be enough to resolve the issue. Either way, please post your results.
Thank you for bringing this issue to the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Fresh Install, Fully Updated Leopard Server Keeps rebooting on its own

Just upgraded to Leopard Server from Tiger.
    Fresh, new install, fully updated.
Only software installed is Retrospect 6 and Drobo client.
My Server keeps rebooting by itself after 5-10 after logging in.
Won't reboot on it's own if I don't log in. The services are running in the background.
But once I log in as admin, after 5-10 mins, it will reboot on it's own.
Any ideas are where I should start looking on how to resolve this?

You're going to get to try to isolate this.
Any details from the crash report? (Applications -> Utilities -> Console.) Basically you're going to have to dig around in the crashes, and (if there's nothing obvious there) then, well, "try different configurations and different stuff".
This could be bad memory or a bad sector somewhere on the disk, for instance. Or a bad processor. Or a corrupt file. Or a bug in whichever Leopard Server baselevel is involved here.
    Some steps and some options...
    Disconnect all external hardware.
Run the hardware diagnostics for whichever box is involved here.
See if the box crashes if you log in as some other user.
See if the box crashes with no external hardware, or with no network connected.
If the box isn't under warranty (and any user crashes the box) (and if you're familiar with and comfortable with working inside static-senstive electronics gear), crack it open and reseat everything.
If the system is available to restore or you can blank and install, reinstall everything and leave both Retrospect and Drobo, and see if it crashes. Then add one or the other and see if that crashes stuff, rinse, lather and repeat.
Or you can call up Apple and ask for help.
