MediaSource 5 isn't recognizing my Zen Xtra pla

Hi,
I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra mp3 player, version .03.02. I've had it since July of 2003.
I recently bought a new computer (Dell Inspiron 520; Windows XP Home Edition). My old computer had Creative Organizer software on it. I no longer have (or more accurately, I can no longer find) any CDs that would allow me to install that software onto my new computer.
When I first plugged my mp3 player into my new computer, the computer didn't recognize the hardware. I went to the Creative support site and downloaded this driver ( JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00.EXE ). Installing that allowed the computer to recognize the player. I then tried to transfer music from my computer to the player with Windows Media Player 0 (my preference is to avoid upgrading to WMP , if possible). The computer *did* recognize the player and I was able to move music over, but when I unplugged the player to view the new files I had placed there, I wasn't able to find them on the player (I think they *are* there somewhere, but I can't seem to find where the Windows Media Player put them).
Therefore, I went back to the Creative support site and downloaded and installed the Creative MediaSource 5 software ( CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_0_38.exe ), but when I open up Creative MediaSource 5 and click on "Transfer Music," I get a pop-up box saying that there isn't any mp3 player plugged into the system, so it can't transfer anything. It gives me that box no matter how many times I unplug and re-plug in the player to my computer.
At this point, I'd prefer to transfer my music to my player via the MediaSource software, since I have a feeling it will be more user-friendly for me. However, any advice that will help me with transferring music to my player and allowing me to find it easily on the player will be most appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi,
If you have not already, please make sure that you have the correct plugin installed. Check the firmware version of your Zen Xtra and go back to the download page where you downloaded MediaSource 5.
If you have the PlaysForSure firmware in your player, download and install this:
Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 27.90 MB
CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36.exe
Otherwise, download and install this:
Creative ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer 6.24 MB
CMS5_NJB2_PCAPP_LB_5_00_22.exe
Hope this hel
ps.

Do you have the driver installed for the device? You can find that here.http://support.creative.com/download...ale=033&nPage= WMP is for MTP devices which the Xtra is not, There is a firmware update for the device HOWEVER updating to that firmware may just kill the player so I would not advise doing it since you have XP & you will be able to sync using MediaSource. Did you install the Creative Zen & Nomad Jukebox plug-in 5.00.22? Click on Show Details & read them before installing anything.

• 'Creative Mediasource Organizer' Folders and the ZEN V pla

Using the Creative Mediasource Organizer, I've set up a few Folders on the 'Creative Zen V' player but when I undock the player and use it to find and play the songs, they're not organized by the Folders. In fact, I don't the folder 'structure' at all. Is there a way I can see and use my folder structure I've set up for the player? and, if not, then why does the Organizer enable me to set up folders? Thanks.

Folders on the device are merely for your own convenience and organization. The device relies solely on ID TAGS on how it plays and displays the various tracks. You will need to get your tracks in order and edit the tags.

• Computer isn't recognizing Zen V Plus two days after everything was working fi

My computer isn't recognizing my Zen V Plus. Everything was fine two days ago, I was able to upload music and create playlists. I have contacted Creative and they haven't been much help. Here is everything:. I am running Windows XP;2. Other items work when plugged into the USB ports;3. The player will charge when plugged into the USB port;4. It isn't being recognized AT ALL by the device manager, or the Zen V Series Media Explorer;5. I had already been using Windows Media Player w/ Urge prior to receiving the MP3 player (and as I mentioned it worked fine with the WMP for several days). Although I went ahead and downloaded the patch to be safe;6. I am always logged in as the administrator. Please help! Any advice is GREATLY appreciated! Creative has been horrible in offering support. They seem to ignore certain portions of my emails.

Thanks for the reply.
I have a tagging program, but I neglected to mention is exclusi'vely use WMA format. That doesn't matter.
There are no duplicate files, because I check that before uploading to the unit.
I've figured out a few ways to solve this problem, though. One way is to create a playlist. The Zen displays the correct file count this way.
Another way is to select files via album, artist, or genre, and THEN go back to All Tracks.

• Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra stops working with XP following Windows Media Player 11 Beta Installat

Yesterday I was very pleased to find that my Creative Zen Xtra (model DAP-HD00) portable media player is a PlaysForSure capable device. Creative Labs, on November 9, 2005, released the Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware v2.0.03. I installed this firmware (I had to install the Creative ZenJukebox Driver v.30.03 first to get Windows to recognize the device). Once the firmware was upgraded, Windows began recognizing the Zen Xtra as a MTP device and life was good. I was able to synchronize it with both Napster To Go and Windows Media Player 0.
After this, I went ahead and installed Windows Media Player Beta, which I just downloaded yesterday as well.
From a functional standpoint, WMP seems to run just fine. However, when I connected the Creative Zen Xtra (with its PlaysForSure firmware), Windows redetected the hardware. It first showed "Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra" in the tooltip, followed by "MTP Device" in the new hardware tooltip. Finally, Windows announced that there was a problem installing my new hardware and that it may not work properly.
Sure enough, when I went into Device Manager, my Zen Xtra was showing as an MTP Device with an exclamation point on it. More specifically, it specified the status of, "This device cannot start (Code 0)."
Prior to the installation of Windows Media Player, the Creative Zen Xtra showed in device manager with the following characteristics under the heading "Windows Portable Devices":
Name: NOMAD Jukebox Zen XtraDriver Version: 5.2.0.0 dated 8/30/2004Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.3802.3802 built by dnsrv(bld4act)
Windows Media Player changed this to the following (the device now shows up under "Portable Devices"):
Name: MTP DeviceDriver Version: 5.2.5326.4762 dated 2/22/2006Digitally Signed by Microsoft Windows Component Publisher
Driver File Details:C:\Windows\system32\wpdusb.sys - v5.2.5358.4827 (WMP_.060509-2009)C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\wudfrd.sys - v6.0.5348.0(winmain(wmbla).0604-339)
The file wudfrd.sys is NOT digitally signed in this case.
As of now, my Zen Xtra is completely unusable on this system, and I need to sync it with my laptop for the time being, which still has WMP 0 installed on it.
Is this a bug with WMP beta? Is it a problem with my firmware? Since this is PlaysForSure compliant firmware, and it worked flawlessly with Napster and WMP 0 (before the MTP driver was updated), it would seem to be a WMP beta issue. I'd like to hear more official confirmation on the subject, however.
Some general details about my system are:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2Verified GENUINE Microsoft operating system using Genuine Advantage ValidationIntel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz, Hyper-Threaded processor2.00 GB RAM
Windows Media Player Version: .0.5358.4827Napster Version: 3.6.0.7 (US)
Any recommendations? Fixes? Some have suggested rolling back the WMP installation, but I would like to consider this option only as an absolute last resort.
Best regards,Matt

Ok, this worked out accidentally - but happily
I first installed the driver - not the media source - but the driver for the device.
After that the windows device manager yellow sign disappeared - apparently the device driver was registered by windows.
Then I Installed Mediasource 5 - the installation went thru fine.
Does anyone have any recommended updates to install, please also advise what benefits.
Thanks.

• Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - Fro

Please help me save my Zen Xrtra!
I previously updated the firmware on my Zen Xtra to version 2.0.03 so that it would be recognized by my new computer which is running Vista. All went well and I was able to sync the Zen Xtra with all my music without a problem.
The other day when I ran the sync again in order to update the Zen Xtra with some new music all seemed to go fine until I disconnected the player from the computer. Upon doing this the Zen Xtra froze up. It now won't bootup. It gets to the "EAX" screen and just sits there. I tried reconnecting it to the computer but the computer no longer recogizes the player.
I figured I'd have to update the firmware again. So I went to another computer running XP with Windows Media Player 0 on it because that's how I did it before. However, this computer didn't recognized the Zen Xtra either.
I paid way too much money for this 40GB Zen Xtra to trash it. Can someone PLEASE help me get it working again.
Thanks

• Zen Xtra Nomad Jukebox suddenly not recognized by Windows XP Netbook

I'm desperately struggling to get my Creative Zen Xtra Nomad Jukebox MP3 player (version .03.02) to be recognized by my computer. (My background is I'm about 4 hours south of my home, temporarily helping my exwife who is slowly dyiing of cancer... [URL"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA67hNO3H4"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA67hNO3H4 I have two laptops with me, one with XP (and the other rarely used here with Vista.) My main computer, a Dell Desktop running XP, is back at home with most everything else as I live out of a suitcase and do the best I can.... 'nuf said for my situation)
About 3 weeks ago, I hooked my Creative mp3 player up to my MSI netbook, (windows xp and recently updated with all microsoft updates) and noted that the MP3 player was not being recognized by the computer. When plugged into the USB, my computer gave a 'chirp' and would look for hardware for the player, but ultimately it couldn't find it. The DEVICE page of the SYSTEM menu had the Jukebox listed with the nefarious yellow question mark. Though I don't have a CD drive on this computer, I had a portable drive with most of my software with previousl loaded software archived there, including the installation disc for my MP3 player; but none of the drivers or software that I loaded would make a difference. I download all sorts of drivers & firmware updates from the CREATIVE web site, nothing changed. I would remove all the creative software, reload, reload software, hook up the MP3 player, and.... it would recognize the Nomad player but have no way to incorporate drivers for it's use. Even as I directed it to the original 'CD' copied onto my netbook's desktop, my Windows XP with service pack 3 just couldn't do more than let me know that it couldn't quite recognize the player other than identifying what it was.. I could uninstall the device, the drivers; all to no avail.
My incorrect guess at the time was that something internal to the mp3 player was broken and though I was lucky that it still worked as a player without any issues, I just had no way to access the 30Gb of books & lectures. Nor would the Creative Media Source work with it, as it felt that the player was not even hooked up to the computer. So,I bought a new 'used' identical model on ebay, except that the seller had upgraded the firmware and the harddrive. Once I got the new player, it's too, would not be recognized by my MSI netbook. (though it works on the laptop I have running vista).
Last week I gratefully went home for one day to check my mail and attend to a few matters, and upon hooking my original MP3 player to my main desktop, my original MP3 player immedately docked to my computer and was working as it always had?
Now, atleast, I knew the MP3. player was working and functionally intact, and the challenge was completely computer software issues on my netbook, possibly due to some service pack upgrade or the sort.
I've spent several hours, reviewing all sorts of fixes and maneuvers; from blogs and tech support pages, though none made any difference as I changed various settings or softwares on my netbook. I saw lots about Vista not supporting my old firmware (which isn't an issue as my Netbook is XP.. I also saw that Windows Media player might have been the problem, and reverted to WMP 9, then to 0, though stlll no change.
I have never turned to a tech support board before, but I'm very much in need of assistance right now. Please, if you think you can guide me, I would appreciate it.
~Stuart

Thanks for the reply. I sure wish I had a better understanding of this. I will request one more piece of invaluable knowledge from you! My old zen & windows xp computer hum in awesome performance again. Unfortunately, since I thought my old zen was broken, I'm now with this new beast, with the updated firmware 2.0.03. From what I previously read on Boards and Forum pages, this device shouldn't be connected to my XP computer while I'm still using my OLD zen with old firmware. As you mention in the above note, I connect this 'new' Zen to my Vista computer, & it immedately goes into docking mode. I tried loading the newest firmware available for my device (though it doesn't list vista as compatable), and of course, when the mediasource version 3.30.2 loads, it doesn't have a clue that my zen is connected. Only WMP version seems to pay attention, which may not be that bad. But once I was up & running in WMP, I couldn''t seem to create playlists and or even clearly get it to load the Audio Lectures that I have onto it. So, Wise, All Knowing CREATIVE Wizard, any suggestions what I do? Delete WMP? I will hope never to bother you again, once this is solved!!!
But I am tremendously grateful for the assistance. I only spent about an hour in WMP accomplishing nothing, before I realized I should just turn to you, admit my defeat, and hope for insight and practical advice!!!!!
Thanks!!!

• WMP and Mediasource will not recognise Zen Xtra with Playsfors

?I, like many people apparently, have been attempting to sync my Creative Labs 40GB Zen Xtra (firmware 2.0.03 - Playsforsure enabled) ) with my music files on my computer using either WMP0, or Mediasource with the Playsforsure Plugin installed. Even Explorer would be cool- but nothing recognises it.
?The problem I am having is that when I plug in the Zen, windows recognises the player as "MTP Media Player" and offers to start WMP for me, but when I get into WMP it doesnt see the Zen. The device shows in Device Manager under "Windows Portable Devices/NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra" but nothing else on the system recognises it- not Explorer, not WMP, now Mediasource with the Plugin. ?I have attempted to run "Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra Players" but unfortunately everytime I try it says it cannot detect the player and will not install- It?says"Setup could not detect and portable device on your system. Setup will now install the necessary drivers to enable your device to be detected."
After?installing the correct driver itself it comes back and asks me to plug in the device and when I do and click next it says
"Setup could not detect and portable device on your system. Please ensure your portable device is connected and switched on.?If your player is not enabled with Microsoft's PlaysForSure, please ensure that Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware is properly installed before running this Setup program."? The correct firmware IS installed according to the "about" screen on the player itself.
I have gone thru the steps to edit the permissions in the registry under "enum/usb" as suggested in another thread by Daniel-CL, and still this does not fix it. Then as suggested by [color="#ff6633">SSR, I?tried reinstalling MediaSource first, followed by the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra Players.
(Still wouldnt let me install it)?
Oh, and I tried hooking it into my XBox 360, which Microsoft says will recognise a PlaysForSure enabled Zen Xtra. It wont recognise it either. So basically the player just sits in Device Manager and taunts me. It's there. It pops up when I plug it in. When I try to run a program that should recognise it, the little arrows on the player even light up for a moment to show communication with the program. But alas... nothing. I'm going crazy here.Did I miss something?

I had a similar problem with my Zen Touch, but the only symptom was not being able to install MediaSource or the Software Suite. I got the same messages that you did. I was able to use Windows Explorer to add/edit/remove files, but I wanted the Zen Media Explorer so that I could create playlists. After about 2 days of research and trial and error, I ended up fixing it by uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers.
If you don't know how to do that, here are instructions...
I'm using XP SP2, btw, so if you're using another version of Windows, it might be slightly different...
) With the Zen connected, Right-click on "My Computer"
2) Select "Properties"
3) Click on the "Hardware" tab and select "Device Manager"
4) Right Click on "MTP Device" (or MTP Media Player) and select "Uninstall"
5) Disconnect the player from the computer, wait about 5 secs, and reconnect.
When you reconnect it, the drivers will be reinstalled. Try running the setup again after that.
If that still doesn't work, look for random optional Windows updates, maybe?...esp. PlaysForSure, WMP, or USB/mobo/INF/Chipset driver updates...or maybe when it says "Setup could not detect and portable device on your system. Setup will now install the necessary drivers to enable your device to be detected," it actually <i>is</i> doing something, but it isn't apparent until you reinstall the driver. To be honest, I just don't know. The computer I'm using is only a few months old and I didn't have any problems installing on an older computer.
Oh well. I hope that fixes your problem.
As far as the problem with the 360 connectivity, I'm sorry I can't help you there.Message Edited by potestasx on -03-2006:28 PM

• Zen Xtra 40G - PC Not Recognizing Unit after Firmware and Driver upgrade

I own a Zen Xtra 40G unit and have just recently upgraded the firmware to the latest version (.20.08). I then proceeded to upgrade to the latest Windows XP driver (.26.02) and after reboot, the system no longer recognized my jukebox.
I tried my room mates, still on an older version of the firmware, and his worked without a problem.
In order to check and see if it was a one time fluke, I uninstalled both the driver and Creative MediaSource and re-installed from the original CD.
Again, my jukebox (still with the new firmware) worked flawlessly. I then upgraded Media Source to the latest version (2.03.09) and rebooted only to find my jukebox still worked perfectly.
I then downloaded and installed the latest Windows driver again (.26.02) and rebooted. My PC stopped recognizing my jukebox again but my buddie's still worked without a problem.
Is there a known flaw with the Windows driver and the latest firmware version.
Could Creative fix the problem or let me know if there is a setting I need to change in order for my PC to recognize my jukebox under the latest software and drivers?

So am I to assume from that message you think I should revert back to the old driver?
Of course Technical Support was no help. Sometimes I think they either a) don't read English very well or b) don't read the entire e-mail.

• Creative MediaSource/Zen Xtra/Vista Is

I have had?a Zen Xtra for a couple of years, I recently got a new computer which has Vista Installed. After going through the nutroll that was downloading MediaSource for Vista and updating the firmware to be Play-for-sure, etc... everything seemed to work together. Except for one issue that I cannot figure out;
When I operated on Windows XP and I linked my Player to the computer I would see all my songs listed on the screen. Now on Vista I see folders of the albums as opposed to all the tracks listed. This is making creating playlists much harder, searches slower and general management of 6400 songs more difficult than it should be.
There has to be a way to be able to see all the tracks listed without folders, I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone here cracked the code on this yet?
Thanks for any help I can get.

To get it working with Vista you need to update the firmware to the latest ( last ?) version or one that starts with a number 2.something.
to do this you need:
a P.C running windows XP
and on that XP PC you MUST make sure that:
you have removed/rolled back windows media player
removed/rolled back windows media player runtime
even if you dont think any parts of WMP are there, check in add/remove programmes.
before starting the firmware update make sure that the battery is fully charged and the player is conecte dot the power suply/mains charger.

• Zen Xtra won't appear in Creative MediaSource Organi

I've been using my 30 GB Jukebox for a couple years w/ no real problems except that I remember there being a problem w/ a USB port & I had to change something so that the Creative MediaSource Organizer software could recognize the mp3 player. Now I've bought a 60 GB Zen Xtra (same player, x2) & am having the same problem. I've upgraded everything & hate the new interface for transfering files... most of the time the program just freezes. I'd like to be able to use the same Creative software I was using before, but it doesn't recognize the new device. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or how I can fix it, I'd rather not have to call?Customer Service?again for $3.

I'm just giving this topic a bump. I've upgraded to Creative MediaSource Organizer v 3.30.2, but it won't recognize either of my mp3 players when I plug them in. I'm able to use the Zen Xtra Media Explorer, but?most of the time it just freezes up. I'd like to be able to use the software I'm familiar w/, so if anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it. I seem to remember having a similar problem when I first purchased my 30 GB Zen Xtra.

• Zen nano plus suddenly isn't recognized by WMP 11

Hi there. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on my PC. And I've had no issues with Windows Media Player recognizing my Zen Nano Plus - until this week. It just isn't. All of a sudden it's only showing as a removeable disk. I can access music files and what not - but I'd really like to be able to sync again. Has anyone experienced this problem?
I did download the new firmware and install it - but still having the issue. I'd appreciate your help and feedback thanks!

Re: zen nano plus suddenly isn't recognized by WMP n I do have that and while I can still add music and what not - I honestly just prefer going in one way through WMP . However, I did a System Restore Point today to a point to which I had thought I could still sync - and now when I open Windows Media Player it does recognize my device.
Interesting point - my device now has the udpated firmware; because I had updated last week. And AFTER I did the System Restore, and then plugged in my device, it reinstalled the driver and Windows Media Player did recognize it. So I wonder if this has to do with the new firmware installation; although WMP did stop recognizing my device prior to my updating the firmware. (That is what led me to look for the update in the first place)
However, this seems to have fixed my complaint. For the moment. Thank you for your response and suggestion!

• Zen Xtra not recognized by USB p

When i hook up my zen Xtra (60gb) nothing is recognized by the usb port. it did work, before i downloaded the new driver, and now it doesn't see anything on the port. i tried a different usb port but it still doesn't see anything. any suggestions?

Tried a disk cleanup on the player? To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
Alternati'vely, if the new drivers broke it have you tried installing the drivers from the CD?

I maybe able to go to squaretrade as he said it was new in opened box, and it was not new as his daughters name was on the settings part of the unit. It does say on the unit 60gb so I guess my next question is it possible for him to have opened the unit and replaced the 60gb harddri've with a 40gb? I also assume that this unit would not be able to be fixed or replaced under warrantee even though on his description a one year creative labs warantee is in place. I have the unit registered with creative and with the serial number. Does the hard dri've itself have a serial number on it's Thanks again for the help. Marc
