Mediasource 5 Probl

Hey guys, i just bought a Zen Vison 30gb and upgraded both the player firmware and mediasource version 5.0.38. Basically i've got 2 questions
. Is there anyway to rearrange the tracks within a playlist. My old mediasource 3 was able to do this but unfortunately not the lastest version? is there a patch or alternati've method to solving this?
2. Secondly the music list takes forever to load. That is to say when i click on music, it takes a good minute before all the tracks are displayed. Once again i never had this problem with my zen nx on the old mediasource. Is there some way i can speed up the loading?

Creative MediaSource playback probl

So, after a few months of trouble-free use, I run into some troubles. Essentially what's happening is I'll be playing a song in MediaSource Organizer or Player and after a minute or two, one of my speakers will cut out or the song will stop playing altogether.
I've already tried re-installing the program to no avail. I'm thinking it doesn't completely uninstall the program because when I uninstall and re-install, my last playlist from before I removed the program is still listed. I tried re-installing the sound drivers, too. I know it's nothing wrong with my speakers or soundcard because both still work flawlessly in any other program. Winamp, for example, allows me to play music without any hindrances. Except I'd rather use MediaSource because I like the layout better and I have more options with it.
So I guess I'm asking: does anybody know what's going on, here? Is there anyway I can COMPLETELY uninstall MediaSource (because I have a sneaking suspicion that not everything's being uninstalled), or simply make this problem go away?

I believe you have one of the Audigy 2 series of sound card. Am I right? If so, please update to the latest drivers of your sound card. It should fix the crashing problem when MediaSource is closed.

MediaSource tagging / new file naming probl

I just started using MediaSource with a Nomad Jukebox Zen and I've run into a couple of problems:
) When I change a song's tag info (title, artist, etc) in my PC music database, and then click to Autosync my player, it adds the new song onto the player as a duplicate (the song with the old title is still on the player). This is a major pain as I have thousands of songs that I want to clean up the tag info, especially the assigned genre to make my player more to my liking. Any suggestions to do this and keep the tag info the same on both player and PC?
2) When uploading new songs from the player to the PC, the software does not name the file correctly. I have the database properties to name the file "<artist> - <title>", but it names them all with only the tile. It does store the files in the proper folder, but does not name it correctly. Any thoughts?

Thanks SSR. I just checked out the NomadSync software and it looks like *almost* exactly what I need. Matching like songs and allowing you to update the ID3 tags is brilliant! The big downfall from what I see is that there isn't a way to define where to store and how to name new uploaded files from the player. MediaSource does this so maybe I'll use NomadSync to clean up everything else but not upload new songs, and then run AutoSync to upload the files and let MediaSource name them according to the database rules. That is, of course, if I can get it to work properly. I downloaded all of the latest drivers, plugins, and software before trying this. I'll double-check the version numbers, and if they are the latest, then perhaps I should drop a line to Creative software and let them know about the bug.

Creative MediaSource Organizer w/ Zen Micro Probl

Hey, i just recieved my refurbished Zen Micro from creative, and my Creative MediaSource Organizer wont wont.(It used to work on my old zen micro when i first got it, but then after a while, the organizer wont even open). So i uninstalled all creative programs i had, and reinstalled them using the Zen Micro Installation Disc. The computer can detect my Micro and i can put songs on through Zen Media Explorer. But it was much more convinent to use Organizer. Got any ideas? Thanks.
p.s. when i click on MediaSource Organizer, it says it cannot find CTCMS.exe and before i re-installed it, i clicked the icon and nothing happened.

The compluter explorer does recognize it, but not the organizer, so it is awful trying to organize songs.

Can I organize songs with Windows Media Player? because it only recognizes it to sincronize, but not to change the name of the songs and so on.

MediaSource ver. 3.20 probl

I recently upgraded my firmware to PlayforSure and updated the MediaSource. Ever since I did that if I am trying to view songs on my player, I can only see them in the album folders. I no longer have the partitions where you can view by artist or by album. I can only do that in PC Music Library. Does anyone have any idea why that is happening?It's very difficult to look for songs on my Player now w/o the partition windows.Message Edited by JayD on 02-22-200603:29 PM

Can anyone help me w/ this issue? It makes it very difficult for me to look for songs on the Player now. I tried taking them off and putting them on again a differnet way but i got the same thing.

Ongoing Creative MediaSource Probl

I've been having a lot of problems with?my Audigy 2 ZS' Creative MediaSource applications, whenever I would attempt to open any Creative MediaSource application I would be denied access and?then receive a Microsoft error message. I just attempted to uninstall and then reinstall the Creative MediaSource software after my?PC was?rebooted into?a clean state but yet I am still encountering the same problems as before, I thought that this would be a sure fix for my problem but I guess I was wrong. What options do I have left?

Creative MediaSource software has probl

I created some playlists in media source for zen micro, and then transfered them to my player. It worked fine. Couple days later I openned medisource to play songs in one of the play list. It shows all the songs with the same tag names, that is all the songs in the play list have the same display name, I right click them and check tag info all have the same tag info(tag info of one of the songs in the list). But when I play them they are different songs. Here is the real bummer, when I look at the names in the library, and check tag info of the same file in the library list it is correct. Anybody has any ideas?

Just to check with you. Do you mean that you play the songs in the playlist of your MediaSource's PC Music Library or the playlist of your Zen micro?

AIM and Mediasource probl

I have a soundblaster audigy 2 platinum and a creative zen xtra 30gig with updated firmware and updated drivers for the audigy 2. I am running windows xp sp2 and when I update mediasource to from version .00.2 to version 2.03.29 my AOL instant messenger program no longer works. If I were to turn on AIM, it starts just fine, but when I messege someone the program freezes. This is easy solved by uninstalling the updated version of mediasource and then reinstalling the older version of media source. why would these conflict? any idea on how to fix?

I have a strange feeling that SP2 probably has something to do with that but I'm not sure. Try putting in SP and then using both programs (mediasource with the updated firmware) and see if that fixed anything. I know it sounds weird but just try it. SP2 has been known to screw a lot of things up and act extremely weird.

hey, sorry if this has been covered before...but my MediaSource is beginning to annoy me with this problem! Whenever I rip a cd to my Zen Micro, not all the tracks get ripped correctly. I then have to re-rip the tracks that were not done correctly..and it can take 3-4 attempts to get it all done properly....any help appreciated!

Make sure you have the latest Creative MediaSource and its plugins.
Here is what you should do:
- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site. Make sure that you install this first before installing the rest of the MediaSource plugins listed below.

Si tu switch de version .x (proprietary protocol) a version 2.x (MTP protocol), tu dois aussi installer d'autres plugin pour mediasource. Regarde les options dans le download section du site creative.

If you can reproduce the crash, when you get the "Creative Mediasource 5 Player has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message (which is what you seem to be saying you're getting), you'll notice the error message says on the bottom, above the buttons, "To see what this error report contains, click here." Click there like it says and another window will pop up. There's a section on the top of that window that says "Error signature", "AppName: (something here)", etc. Copy that whole top section and post it here. It will help identify what the problem is.

Creative Mediasource ID3 Tags - Edit more than one year at a ti

I use a 60gb Zen Xtra with Mediasource. I take pride in the ID3 tags of all my files especially those of my Jazz collection and my player is well organised. The only thing I have to ask is - is there any way of editing the year of, say, an entire album that was recorded in 959 for example all at the same time. It lets me do this for Artist, Album and Genre but not year. Is there any upgrade in software I can get or am I just missing something here?

Shucks, I tried and you can't seem to do it. A curious oversight.
You can either use another copying program like which will let you do it, or simply get a mass tagger (but you will need to edit the tracks on the PC first, then copy). For some mass tagger recommendations look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

I encountered this error
The file or folder <path>/Probl?me 2 does not exist
while I was trying to open a directory already extracted from a zip file containing directories with special characters. In this case, it is a "è" that was misinterpreted as a "?".
I searched the forums and on google, the solutions proposed do not work for me. Although, I have to deal with these files written in french, I would like to have my locale in english (US), with a system wide support for special characters.

This solution does not work, because after adding iocharset=utf8, in front or after a "defaults", after a reboot, while mounting the filesystem, there is the following error message:

It is complicated to remove these directories. I had to use the inum to get precisely these directories before removing them.

Note that the hypothetical character 'è' is represented has a '\212', a 'È' if seen as a extended ASCII character.
These directories cannot be deleted this way :

rm: cannot remove `ProblÈme 1': No such file or directory
What should I do to be make the operating system recognize those special character, and interpret them correctly ?

I had to have fr_CA not only in utf8 but also in iso88591. I had to modify the /etc/rc.conf this way :

To preserve the english US language system wide, I had to add the following line in the /etc/profile :
# Allow french special character while in en_US
export LANG=en_US
The character misinterpreted by a "?" is now seen :
as a "è" in dolphin
as a "?" in the console
It is now possible to access the folders.

Trouble with Creative Mediasource

I'm using the latest driver (2.0.00) And Firmware (2.0.03), and CMS5 5.0.38, with the plugins for Zen and the PlaysForSure. My system us Windows XP, SP2, and I meet the minimum system reqs for the program.
Since "upgrading" to Creative MEdiasource 5, I've run into several problems, perhaps all interconnected.
--Mediasource takes an incredibly long time to load my Zen (40 GB Zen Xtra), upwards of 3 minutes. This took only a few seconds in previous versions. This is present when connected through my front, back and USB hub ports.
--Mediasource will rip a CD incredibly slowly. If I try to transfer more than one CD (That is, one, the procedure ends, and then start up another), I will get an error message and MEdiacsource will shut down.
--Sometimes, the window itself will disappear, and I will be unable to access it. This has happened a couple of times instead of the previous problem. The process will still run, but I will be unable to reload it, and trying to forcibly end the process (Task Manager) seems not to work. This also happens sometimes when I browse away from my Zen (Say, to a CD or file on my computer), and come back to my Zen.
I tried using my prior version, but it doesn't recognise my Playsforsure device at present, and I'm not sure if it's even possible to alter it.
Is anyone else having a similar problem? I loved Mediasource prior to this version: It was a sleek, easy and intuiti've interface and covered almost all of my Organisation needs. I did check the boards, but I may have missed a similar problem. I'm wondering if this is an issue that people have a solution to.
Any help's appreciated.

I have formatted the player using the recovery menu as well as with WMP, because both are the recommended and "only" ways to format, depending on who you listen to. No difference, however in the way WMP behaves. When I get to the point where WMP can only sync a small few files, if I do a Cleanup (from rescue mode), let the Nomad rebuild the library, I can usually get more files in before it clogs up again. Every time I do a fresh format, I lose a couple of days worth of work, so I'm not doing it again.
I don't have any way to control how much of the library to synchronize once it has gotten past my playlists, unless I spend time creating more playlists for this purpose. With a 60 G Nomad, and a library suitable for that storage, that's a TON of music to deal with.
I'm still trying to figure out whether this is a Windows Media Player issue, a driver issue, or a Nomad firmware issue. Since I have to reset the Nomad between each sync attempt, and occasionally do a cleanup, I'm guessing it's the Nomad, and since I've seen it on more than one unit, I'm guessing it's a firmware bug.
I'm hoping someone else has seen this issue and has a better idea. I hate all my choices: Notmad is frustrating because I can't get my playlists to come across. Creative Media Source is less reliable than WMP, so that leaves WMP as the least aggravating way to sync, and it works flawlessly with my smaller sized Sansa Clip from the same library.
