MediaSource 5 - Track Sort Defau

I use MediaSource 5 to keep track of all my music, however, I can't seem to find a way of setting a default to sort the tracks alphabetically when I select an artist (or all artists even).
I know it's just a couple of clicks to get them sorted into alpha-ascending, but is there any way to get this sort to occur as a default action?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & regards,
Mick.

Are you playing the track from MediaSource's PC Music Library or from MediaSource's My Computer?

  • Track sort order

What does the song order (sometimes) change when I click on the Album column?
Most of the time, my songs show up sorted by track number (I have the track # column displayed).
However, for a few albums this is totally messed up. For example My copy of Hotel california shows:
    9 The Last Resort 9 of 9
    1 Hotel California 1 of 9
2 New Kid In Town 2 of 9
when sorted album by artist or album by year. But if I sort by Album, the order is
    5 Wasted Time [reprise} 5 of 9
    6 Victim of Love 6 of 9
    1 Hotel California 1 of 9
I can sort them properly by track number if I selected the album in the browser then select track # for the sort. But I want all my albums to show proper track sorting when displayed in flow view.
I'm also wondering what would happn if this was a "gapless" album and the tracks were out of order
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I don't think you can do this becuase sorting by date added, actually date/time added, overrides everything else.
When you sort by date/time added, the albums group together assuming the tracks were all imported together. Unfortunately, the track order doesn't always seem to come out right although it often does.

  • Tracks sorted by date / album / track number

    Hello,
I always display my tracks sorted by date added, because I like to see my newest records first. This way the new "album view", with the sleeve on the left of the tracks, looks good.
Except there is something really annoying, because it is sorted by date, it seems to be strictly sorted by date, and the tracks do not show in the correct order, more in the order, seond by second, they were added to the library.
Is there a way to make the tracks show by date added, but within one album sorted by song order ?
    Thanks

The link should have taken you to my scripts page, where clicking on the name of the script should have given you a file to download called SortDateAdded.vbs. Assuming you saved this without changing the .vbs extension then I'm not sure why it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure Vista should support VBScript without any extra effort, but I'll have a hunt around and see what I can find out. Perhaps there is some optional component that was excluded during your Vista install.

  • Key command for ARRANGE/track/sort tracks

Need to automate.  Arrange/tracks/ sort tracks...  Not supported in logic key commands.  3rd party macro recorder needed.  Any suggestions?  AppleScript?

The Logic-style approach to faders is a strange one. In ProTools you have sliders which are much easier to move in increments. You can also enter the volumes by typing in a number, allowing very precise adjustment. Apple probably opted for the tiny blue knobs so they would take up less space in the track window. I do like being able to see many tracks at once so this is probably a good decision.
Heck, I have learned to live with it. The more I use Garageband the more I realize just how cool an app it is. Apple has given a near-pro level app to us for next nothing. In addition, I am using Jampacks 4, which opens a whole new world. The sounds are stunning and mixed in a way that requires very little eq to get your mix to sound fantastic. In my last mix all I did was balance the sound levels and add some reverb via the Ambience plugin to push some sounds to the back and the mix was done. Wow!

  • Creative mediasource player - track order prob

I imported a lot of?albums I downloaded from Napster on to the creative mediasource player on my pc. when i try to play albums via this player on my pc the tracks are all out of order (eg track3, track , track2 etc) and I cannot work out how to get them in the right order. i have just looked at a few albums and just realised that it is sorting the tracks in alphabetical order of the track names, not track number. anybody got any ideas how to get it in track order?thanks

Just click on the column header to sort by Track Number. Creative MediaSource will play in the order that you see.

  • Using Creative MediaSource - No Track Ye

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I'm looking for some answers on this and here goes...
I've got a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra player that's a few years old and I'm using Creative MediaSource .0.85.
Whenever I want to rip tracks from a CD and add them to my MP3 player using CMS, I find the CDDB succesfully retrieves the track name, album name, artist and even track number, but the track Year is always left blank and I cannot see an option anywhere to change this. So, each time I add a new CD, I have to go in to Nomad Explorer and edit each track's properties one-by-one.
What I'd like to know please is whether there are any updates available that might include the track year information or whether there is something I have missed or am missing?
I hope this makes sense to you and that someone may be able to help...
Thank you for your time. Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum,
    Olly.
Admin note: I moved this to the MP3 forums, the Zen Xtra is a MP3 player not a PMP.

Nope, I definitly have a usb 2.0 I already had Usb on my PC but I had to buy a new usb so my mp3 player would work. And like I said my mp3 played worked fine on my PC until I had to wipe my hard dri've.
I think the problem is that the usb2.0 came with an installation disc and I've lost it so I'm gonna look on the net for some software that may help.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Track sorting in iTunes 9 -- Album by Artist and Album by Year mix disc #s

Here's a weird one I just noticed: on iTunes 8, if you selected to sort by Album, Album by Artist, or Album by Year, the tracks within each album would be sorted properly (all songs from disc 1 in order, followed by all songs from disc 2 in order, etc.).
On iTunes 9, this works fine for Album sort, but if you choose Album by Artist or Album by Year, it essentially ignores the disc numbers and sorts everything by track number (all track #1's, regardless of disc, followed by all track #2's).
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm using iTunes 9 for 64-bit Vista. Is there any work-around or way to get things sorting properly?

I am having the same problem! I just got off the phone with Apple Care and they were of little help. First, he denied ever hearing of this issue on a Mac (as I use) saying it was only an issue for PC users. I am proof that you are wrong, sir. Second, he denied that it was a bug and said Apple is not treating this as a bug (great...). He says it happened because the multi-disc import occurred in iTunes 8. I know this is incorrect because these same discs were imported using iTunes 7 and made the jump to iTunes 8 without a problem. They are in total denial on this one!
Ultimately, he said to try re-importing my entire library. This will be a huge pain as I have over 25k songs! So, if anyone tries this, please let us know if it works. I tried deleting just the single multi-disc album and then re-"Add to Library" with no luck, so I doubt blowing up my entire library would have a different result. Their other "solution" was to completely uninstall iTunes, then download and reinstall and re-import. This seems like a lot of work with no guarantee of success.
    How disappointing!

  • Album track sorting

I just purchased an album from itunes for my 80GB - I have the whole album of 10 songs but two of the songs are with other artists. So now on my ipod I have the album minus two songs they are listed as other artists. When I play the album I want to hear the whole album, it is a pain having to select those two tracks individualy. Is there a way to move these into the album space.
    Thank You Guy,s
    Greym

in my experience, the default for iTunes was to list it by artist, then by album title, then by track number. Is yours not working this way?

  • How do I sort tracks for iPod using Lion using iTunes 10??

How can I sort or modify tracks (for audiobooks) in iTunes 10.6.1 using OS 10.7.3 so they sync in the correct order for my iPod Touch? Either through iTunes or with 3rd party software is okay.

First, set the Album field for every track to the book's title. It should be identical for every track in the book, to group the tracks together. The easiest way to do this is select all of the tracks, do a File > Get Info, and set the Album to the book's title. This ensures it's the same for every track.
Here's an example of how I set the metadata on a group of audiobook tracks:
The above shot assumes that the track names themselves currently have part number information. If they don't, don't unset the field that _does_ have that information (e.g., the first track number field).
After that, tracks sort in this order:
    - Disc sequence number (xx of yy)
    - Track sequence number (aa of bb)
    - Name field
I usually set the disc sequence numbers to be empty; set the track sequence numbers to be the right order, and change the Name field to _also_ be sortable, so something like "Book Title, part 1", etc. Use the File > Get Info command on each track individually:
It's tedious, as you have to touch every track. Keep clicking that Next button! But once you've done it a couple times, and with clever use of copy/paste, it only takes a few minutes. I did this 40 track book last night in less than 5 minutes.

  • IPhone-Music-Album- track can't sort!

On desktop in iTunes on Mac have all tracks sorted correctly and all info same: disc 1 of 4, and tracks 1-xx etc; and continuing disc 2 of 4,etc..same artist name, same album name, all same but when when this Smart Playlist appears on iPhone, all is jumbled and cannot sort in order ...it's in Music area, but is an audio book, so cannot listen if not in order. Ex: on iphone in the name of smart list when open (shuffle is NOT on in SETTINGS on iphone tho at top of playlist when open the one I want to listen to, it has word "shuffle") it shows:Track 10, track 05, track 12, track 11, track 06,etc. Any ideas?
I tried unchecking smart playlist title, re-synching, re-checking, still shows wrong track order on iphone

  • Creative MediaSource Is Playing With My H

I installed Creative MediaSource on my new computer and transferred my music to the Library. In the last couple of days things are just plain spooky. I have downloaded cuts from MSN Music, and normally the last cuts added to the library have always appeared at the bottom of the Library's list. The first time they appear, that is where you find them, but the next time you launch Mediasource, they are somewhere else. In addition, on two separate occasions I have launched Mediasource to find NO tunes at all; it is empty. Only be rebooting my computer do I get them back. Other than stepping in front of a bus, can anyone offer any advice or solutions? By the way, thanks to all on the advice with downloading the patch to have my Mediasource program recognize by CD burner. That worked like a charm!!

Are you refering to adding tracks into MediaSource's PC Music Library? The first time, the tracks at the end of the list. The next time you launched MediaSource, the tracks that you see in the organizer would have been sorted according to your preference. You can sort by Artist, Album, Genre, Title, etc. This is in fact a correct behaviour.

  • Submitted Podcast, but tracks are out of order

I recently submitted a Podcast and it was approved by Apple, but the page brings up the tracks in a random order. In my RSS feed, the tracks are listed in the correct sequence, however most have identical creation dates.
Does iTunes sort the tracks by Creation Date? If so, I have to change these in my RSS file, do I need to resubmit or will iTunes automatically point to the updated feed link?
    Thanks!!

I updated my RSS feed link and changed the creation times (track 1 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:45:13GMT. Track 2 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 13:55:13GMT, etc) However now all the tracks are listed in reverse order (most current creation date first). I find this to be an enormous inconvenience and am still at a loss as to why iTunes can't display the tracks in the order they're listed in the RSS feed, regardless of creation date.
Any assistance on how iTunes does its initial track sorting would be greatly appreciated.

  • Artist Name not sorting

I'm having trouble when I import new artists into Itunes. Suddenly, if it's a new artist
Itunes will sort it to the right genre list but won't list the artist. I tried "get info" for the
cd and sorting by artist name but still nothing comes up.
    Any help?

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
iTunes doesn't do multi-layered sorts, or rather it does sometimes, but as users we have no control over them. Take, for example, the *Album by Year* view and you'll see that is has sub-ordering on quite a few values. In pseudo-SQL it's something like this:
SELECT * FROM Tracks ORDER BY Sort Album Artist, Year (Of 1st Track of Album), Sort Album, Disc #(Empties Last), Track #(Empties Last)
Where there is no Sort Album Artist value it is infered from Album Artist, Sort Artist or Artist. Where there is no Sort Album it is infered from Album.
When you click to sort on the Year column any previous ordering is discarded. If the tracks are in the wrong order then all you can do is click again to change between an ascending or descening sort.
A quick look at my tracks sorted by Genre suggests as if the result is something like this:
SELECT * FROM Tracks ORDER BY Genre, Sort Artist, Sort Album, Disc #(Empties Last), Track #(Empties Last)
Again, it doesn't matter which columns you click before selecting Genre tere's nothing you can do to get the sort you're after. Personally I'd stick with Album by Artist (which is actually Album by Album Artist) and turn on the Genre in the Column Browser so that you can show all albums in a particular genre in a sensible order.

  • How do I sort by Artist and Year?

I want to sort 1st by Artist then I want my tracks sorted by Year. I have only been able to do one or the other but not both at the same time. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks, Robert

    Hi, Robert.
As Dave says iTunes doesn't allow "dual" sorting but there is a workaround of sorts that you may find useful.
First create a Smart Playlist for the artist in question.
When you view that playlist in iTunes, make sure the Year column is being displayed (iTunes View menu > View Options > check Year).
In the main display you can now click on the Year column heading to sort the contents of that playlist by year.
