MediaSource Directory Na

Hi, my first post here, so hope it will keep you interested.
My issue is that a certain podcast (chinesepod.com), has both English and Simplified Chinese characters in the directory names.
This causes MediaSource to put a little flat open hand icon in place of the directory folder icon, and it refuses to both display the contents - the mp3 files which have been downloaded, and to upload them to my ZEN Xtra.
The files are all there, and if I copy them into another directory, obviously without the Chinese characters in the name, everything works fine.
Copying the files manually would be tedious, and I would prefer not to do it, if I can get away with it.
Is there a fix that could be applied to Creative MediaSource that will fix this problem?
Please, post if you're unsure what I mean. Essentially, the files will only download to a directory called, for instance ". .. ChinesePod Newbie ?" or ". .. ChinesePod Elementary ?" etc... and I have to copy them to ". .. ChinesePod Newbie", etc.
Normally, there isn't any problem at all. All other downloads go to completely English named directories, it is only this range of downloads - but it would be nice to have the functionality included in Creative MediaSource.
If you can't see the Chinese characters, don't worry - in MediaSource they appear as question marks (?) - but my PC is set up to be able to display Chinese characters under every other circumstance.
Cheers,

RESOLVED
I have found the fix for this, just in case anyone else needs it.
In Control Panel/Regional and Language Options I had already installed East Asian Languages and the Chinese PRC service. BUT what I had not done is to Select Chinese (PRC) as the language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs I want to use. This is to be found on the Advanced Tab of the Regional and Language Options panel.
Everything is hunky dory now.

• MediaSource Organizer Never Delet

Let's say I have 0 albums on my computer's playlist. And let's say I have a brand-new MuVo2 FM unit. I connect it via USB, I run a sync, and voila, I have the exact same ten albums on my player.
But then let's say I get tired of one of the albums. So I delete it from my computer playlist, meaning I have 9 albums now on my playlist. On my next sync, I expect my MuVo to also have 9 albums. I expect it to get rid of the one that's not on my playlist.
But no -- after doing some searching on the board, I've come to the conclusion that Creative MediaSource Organizer never deletes anything from my MuVo2 FM unit. Is this true? I can't believe Creative expects to compete with Apple if they don't allow a sync to be a true sync.
If they're afraid of newbies losing their music somehow, then should't they at least have the option to allow the Organizer to delete files from the MuVo?
I've tried the Realplayer since one of the messages says it does sync, but Real makes a total mess (no directory structure, and it doesn't even write the playlists).

This doesn't occur when I explore the PC music library. How can I restore the original view, which allowed me to explore my mp3 player on a track-by-track basis, and allowed me to sort by genre?
That's how it works when you have the PFS firmware (2.0.03) loaded.

• Creative MediaSource 3.30 on SB Audigy 1 possib

I noticed in the downloads section for SB Audigy that the Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer v3.30.2 program is now available for download for SB Audigy () users.
I own an SB Audigy (Digital Entertainment edition).
I've installed the latest drivers for it in Windows XP (except the newest beta driver which I haven't tried).
I downloaded the 52Mb Creative Mediasource 3.30 program and tried installing it.
However, upon finishing extracting files, the application will tell me "not able to find audio device" or something, it suggests me to retry or cancel. Clicking "retry" will show "searching for installed components" and then pop up the same error message. Clicking "cancel"... well, cancels the installation.
So it seems that I'm unable to try out this MediaSource program for my SB Audigy .
Is there some way to make MediaSource install on my SB Audigy ? I'd like to see what this MediaSource is really all about (like playing music files with EAX Advanced HD, etc).
(maybe it's possible to edit some configuration settings file prior to running the installation setup.exe so that the app will install?)
Thanks to anyone who has successfully done that.

R.U. lazy? Why can't you try it by yourself.
Well, I tried it. But it pops out a message saying my system doesn't have the proper components (some such thing -- I'll try to get the exact message next time)...
I have an SB Audigy card properly installed with the latest drivers (and functioning without problems).
As for nvidiot's suggestion to run the setup.exe program. I believe I also tried that method and it showed up the same error message (sorry, will jot down the message next time).
However, I'm interested in this "ctcomp" utility you mentioned that can patch the setup files. How is the ctcomp used? (I recall having an experience with a pre-patched Audigy2 drivers quite some time back. It already had a prepatched ctcomp.dat or some similar thing which allowed the Audigy2 sound driver to install on Audigy sound card.)
So I surmise this method might work (assuming the Creative MediaSource relies on the same identification mechanism).

Ok, I've finally gotten this thing to install. I probably wasn't running the correct setup.exe program as mentioned above. I went to the SETUP\SETUP directory and run the SETUP.EXE there. The CMS program started to install and after a few minutes of hard disk activity, the setup program told me to restart the system, after which the Creative MediaSource program is installed. (no need for the ctcomp thing)
Thanks to all that helped me here.Message Edited by dta on 0-08-2006 03:3 AM

• Technical question about Creative MediaSource 3.30.21‏

Hello:
I use Creative MediaSource software to manage my Creative MP3 player. When I hook up the MP3 player using the USB cable, I can play songs in the "player" within the MediaSource organizer. How do I set it so that the songs (which reside on the MP3 player) will play on my computer speakers (not through the MP3 player)?
Im summary, when I play a song that li'ves on my computer, it plays through the computer speakers, but songs that li've on the MP3 player play on the MP3 (even though I'm controlling them via the MediaSource software). How do I play all of these songs on my computer speakers?
Thanks in advance for any help!

• Mediasource Organizer Multiple Librari

I have a large MP3 collection in my "PC Music Library" and would like to set up sub-libraries so that my wife's and my favourites can be browsed more easily. Obviously I can set up playlists ad infinitum but these don't then enable me to narrow the playlist down further by genre (for instance), change the display order (which stays in the order added) and all the usual bells and whisltes available from the full PC Music Library view.
As I suspect that this cannot be done with this program, can anyone recommend a music organiser that can have multiple libraries/sub-libraries?

mdowers wrote:
As you will see a couple of posts below I had already considered this approach, however, I just had a thought about YOUR stated preference for a single library for all users, regardless of their logon. Wouldn't this simply be a case of pointing each users options/settings library selection to the same database file (naturally stored in a shared directory)?
You can't do this in MediaSource. Believe me I've tried - even hacked the Registry to point to a shared folder but CMS keeps rewriting it back to what it was. It then creates an empty library in the standard location.
Each user's PC Music Library is stored within the User's profile - specifically in the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Creative\Media Database folder.
That's why I liked PlayCenter - you could have one library in a shared area and point all users at it. But in PC I couldn't get it to detect my MuVo N200.
mdowers wrote:
In terms of the first, without physically having two root music directories, one for each user, which the individual music libraries would monitor (together with their respecti've sub-directories), I think the act of manually including only the folders of interest applicable to each user's library would be time prohibiti've. Also I must say I would not be too enamoured by allowing my PC novice wife to get into settings/options menus as there be dragons there!.
If you and your wife logon using different usernames then you can have different libraries but they can both be full of music that is stored in a shared area of your hard dri've. This is how I have mine set up now with the Media Sniffer set up to sniff the shared area. That way if one person rips a new CD then the other person gets the option of importing the tracks next time they log in.
Will that not meet your needs?
micromouse wrote:
After that, switch to your wife's PC music Library via Tools->Settings->PC Music Library. then import only those tracks that your wife wants.

• MediaSource error after install - Zen Mi

After installing MediaSource, when starting the application, I get an error...a required DLL file, CTINTRFC.DLL, was not found...and a second box appears with...Windows cannot find Program.exe. Checking for the file, I find it installed at C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector, and is 36kb in size. After several uninstall/reinstall episodes with the same results, I researched the Creative knowledge base and found this error is found with systems running Windows ME, which I am, and recommends going to the windows update page for repair. After getting any and all possible updates - I still have the same problem. I contacted support and they told me to 'hard boot' and...well you guessed it... I still get the same errors. I looked for MediaSource on the download page, but find nothing listed for the Zen Micro. Any suggestions? BTW - I was able to install and use the Zen Micro Media Explorer
Thanks,
Jim

Are you saying that the CTIntrfc.dll in "C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector" is 36kB and the CTIntrfc.dll in "C:\Program Files\Creative\Shared Files" is 64kB?
Can you perform a search in your hard disk for the file CTIntrfc.dll? See whether there are any copies of it in other directories. I remember there are some users who found an older version of CTIntrfc.dll in Windows System directory and the older version seems to interfere with MediaSource operation.

• MediaSource - Sharing Over a netw

I have a Windows2000 based home network, some PCs areportables which can be taken away from the house. All our families mp3s are stored centrally on the server. There are a lot; much too many to go on my 20Gb mp3 player.
The synchronisation process to the mp3 player through mediasource does not appear to easily allow intricate selection and that selection must be performed before each and every synchronisation.
. My solution to that was to have all my personal mp3s organised under one directory on the server and then replicatethat entire directory to my zen touch. that seems to work ok not very elegant if someone wants access to my music but is there a better way?
2. The bigger problem i have is that all the PCs potentially play music through a hifi in each room. Mediasource seems only able to store its database in the "documents and settings" directory which is local and unique to each user (I apprecaite it can be moved and tried that by following a microsoft article and it did not work causing problems, I can't realistically reinstall my entire win2k network it would take weeks). Note: The preferences of mediasource DO allow certain files to be put on the network but these are backups and the like not the main database. HOW CAN I SHARE MY DATABASE (is share with ME logged in on other computers) OVER THE NETWORK? ( the solution should also be able to be performed by everyone in my family)
thanks for any help to this tricky problem, hopefully should prove to be an interesting debate ahead!

. From what I remember there's no catch-all sync program, albeit I don't use syncing at all so don't have much practical experience. Others to try though are the freeware Nomadsync, Windows Media Player, Real Player (just in case this does syncing) and the shareware Notmad Explorer. I think that's the lot, so if they don't do it nothing well.
Also MediaSource has been updated recently and the sync program was specifically mentioned. I'm not sure what changed though.
2. You'd probably need to look at some file syncing solution, which will copy the database file at intervals from one "master PC" to the others. That's assuming that MediaSource is tolerant of this, and that the files are in the same path on all PCs (if using a server, I assume so).
Perhaps you should just look at enabling the Media Sniffer on MediaSource so it updates each PC directly. It depends what you're trying to achieve though from a functional perspecti've.

• MediaSource Upgrade Install Ha

I have been unable to install the latest MediaSource upgrade for my MUVO 2 player. I downloaded the file to my desktop then ran it. After the files extracted, the install wizard starts and seems to be working then I am left with no open windows and a taskbar item called "CMS Web Installer - Installshield Wizard" which isn't using any CPU time and never closes. I have to open the Task Mgr and end the "not responding" program.
At first, I tried installing over the existing older version. Then I uninstalled the old version, rebooted, and tried installing the newer version. I even verified that the old version had been uninstalled completely by checking that the 2 registry keys and the program directory on my hard disk were gone. Same results.
I also tried temporarily disabling my antivirus and antispyware programs. Same results.
I have tried with the MuVo connected and with it not connected. Same results.
I would appreciate any help or ideas.
Thanks.

The issue is resolved (if not explained) after I recieved an email response from Ricardo in Creative Tech Support. In case this ever happens to someone else, here are the instructions:
Please try downloading the file to your computer, transfer the same file to an empty folder, then extract the file using Winzip; once extracted you will find a Setup.exe, please double click this file and verify it installs properly.

ps.
Then appears this annoying message " CREATIVE MEDIA SOURCE HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE, SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. PLEASE REPORT THE PROBLEM TO MICROSOFT ". I even reinstalled the program several times and the problem still there.
CAN ANYONE OUT THERE HELP ME ON WHAT TO DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM? I would appreciate.
Thank, David

What is the version of your MediaSource?
When you said that you are "IMPORTING MUSIC from a different location in my PC", are you refering to importing music into the PC Music Library via the Import Wizard? What do you mean by "a different location in [your] PC"?
From my experience, I suspect that the problem is causing by some problematic audio files that you are trying to import. Try importing one directory at a time and then try to narrow down which audio file is causing the problem.

• Audio Converter in MediaSource-Format Conversion is not support

Just bought a ZEN Micro and I have a question about the Audio Converter in MediaSource. Everytime I try to convert a file I am getting this error: Format Conversion is Not supported.Fo example I just tried to convert a 92kbps MP3 to a 28kbps MP3. I also tried to convert the same file to a 28 WMA. Both times I got the Format Conversion is Not Supported Error. I have tried a few different files with no success. Please HELP!
I emailed customer service and they told me to just reinstall MediaSource..Seems like thats the standard answer to everything...Any other suggestions would be helpful!
Thanks

Faztang,
Reinstalling MediaSource can often resolve problems like this because they may be caused by a file that was not copied over correctly during install. This is usually a good first suggestion but it certainly isn't the only suggestion they will offer.
What if you use the standalone version of the file converter, does it give you the same errors? Also if you haven't yet uninstalled and reinstalled you might try installing into a different directory as that can help with this also.

• Is MediaSource supposed to work with SB Audigy MP

I have searched the forum and the knowledge database. Can someone please tell me so I'll know if the message "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system" that I'm getting when trying to install MediaSource is normal or not. SB Audigy MP3+ on machine running windows xp sp2. All other drivers and software install and windows does reconize it.
Thanks for any help!

Simply extract the MediaSource3 installer file you've downloaded with WinZIP or something as 'tis a self-installing zip file. Then go two directory levels down the extracted directory structure and run setup.exe from there. It should install without moaning.

• MediaSource 5 Problem with Media Snif

Hello:
I am a long time user of MediaSource Organizer (and was a long time user of PlayCenter even before that). I just started using MediaSource Organizer 5 (5.0.38). I am finding that the Media Sniffer is just not working. It was working fine MediaSource Organizer 3.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Regards,
Glenn

I would just like to state explicitly that I am indeed enabling the Media Sniffer and it is pointing to the desired directory. It is the same settings that I had in MediaSource Organizer 3.

• Change default directory for Creative files (such as Media Databa

I'm using a Zen xtra with WinXP Pro on my company laptop. The Creative software puts a lot of files (7 MB!) in my user profile under Document and Settings. Unfortunately, this is making my profile larger than my company allows, since they back up the profile over the network.
How can I change the default directory for these file? I can't find any .ini files that might declare the path, and I can't find anything in the Windows Registry that points to my profile.
Help please?

Thanks for the suggestion of deleting the JetFileBackup folder, Micromouse. I'll try it.
Any other files look deletable? Without any way to move them, I may have to try deleting some and see what happens.
I'm not even sure which Creative programs can be uninstalled (other than Nomad Explorer) and still be able to use MediaSource to play songs from my Zen Xtra (through a USB connection). Windows Add/Remove Programs says that I've used all of these programs today:
Creative Jukebox Driver
Creative MediaSource
Creative MediaSource AudioSync Plugin
Creative MediaSource NOMAD Jukebox 2/3/Zen Plugin
Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra
But all I've done is open MediaSource and start a playlist from my Zen Xtra. Anybody know which of those can be uninstalled without affecting my use? (Maybe this deserves a separate topic.)
