Mediasource er

When I have my Zen Touch plugged into my laptop and try to play any of the files. I get the following message.
unable to playback current track. The audio device may not be available or the file may be missing or corrupted.
The songs play just fine if I listen through the headphones just not plugged in using the USB cable through Mediasource. All songs were converted and loaded to the Zen Touch using Mediasource.

If you transfer the track from your MP3 player back to your PC, can you play the track from the PC?

• Creative Mediasource ID3 Tags - Edit more than one year at a ti

I use a 60gb Zen Xtra with Mediasource. I take pride in the ID3 tags of all my files especially those of my Jazz collection and my player is well organised. The only thing I have to ask is - is there any way of editing the year of, say, an entire album that was recorded in 959 for example all at the same time. It lets me do this for Artist, Album and Genre but not year. Is there any upgrade in software I can get or am I just missing something here?
Thanks in advance for your input,Matt

Shucks, I tried and you can't seem to do it. A curious oversight.
You can either use another copying program like which will let you do it, or simply get a mass tagger (but you will need to edit the tracks on the PC first, then copy). For some mass tagger recommendations look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

• Trouble with Creative Mediasource

I'm using the latest driver (2.0.00) And Firmware (2.0.03), and CMS5 5.0.38, with the plugins for Zen and the PlaysForSure. My system us Windows XP, SP2, and I meet the minimum system reqs for the program.
Since "upgrading" to Creative MEdiasource 5, I've run into several problems, perhaps all interconnected.
--Mediasource takes an incredibly long time to load my Zen (40 GB Zen Xtra), upwards of 3 minutes. This took only a few seconds in previous versions. This is present when connected through my front, back and USB hub ports.
--Mediasource will rip a CD incredibly slowly. If I try to transfer more than one CD (That is, one, the procedure ends, and then start up another), I will get an error message and MEdiacsource will shut down.
--Sometimes, the window itself will disappear, and I will be unable to access it. This has happened a couple of times instead of the previous problem. The process will still run, but I will be unable to reload it, and trying to forcibly end the process (Task Manager) seems not to work. This also happens sometimes when I browse away from my Zen (Say, to a CD or file on my computer), and come back to my Zen.
I tried using my prior version, but it doesn't recognise my Playsforsure device at present, and I'm not sure if it's even possible to alter it.
Is anyone else having a similar problem? I loved Mediasource prior to this version: It was a sleek, easy and intuiti've interface and covered almost all of my Organisation needs. I did check the boards, but I may have missed a similar problem. I'm wondering if this is an issue that people have a solution to.
Any help's appreciated.

Hello:
I have formatted the player using the recovery menu as well as with WMP, because both are the recommended and "only" ways to format, depending on who you listen to. No difference, however in the way WMP behaves. When I get to the point where WMP can only sync a small few files, if I do a Cleanup (from rescue mode), let the Nomad rebuild the library, I can usually get more files in before it clogs up again. Every time I do a fresh format, I lose a couple of days worth of work, so I'm not doing it again.
I don't have any way to control how much of the library to synchronize once it has gotten past my playlists, unless I spend time creating more playlists for this purpose. With a 60 G Nomad, and a library suitable for that storage, that's a TON of music to deal with.
I'm still trying to figure out whether this is a Windows Media Player issue, a driver issue, or a Nomad firmware issue. Since I have to reset the Nomad between each sync attempt, and occasionally do a cleanup, I'm guessing it's the Nomad, and since I've seen it on more than one unit, I'm guessing it's a firmware bug.
I'm hoping someone else has seen this issue and has a better idea. I hate all my choices: Notmad is frustrating because I can't get my playlists to come across. Creative Media Source is less reliable than WMP, so that leaves WMP as the least aggravating way to sync, and it works flawlessly with my smaller sized Sansa Clip from the same library.

• Creative mediasource, plugins, audiosrobbler etc

Hey, im Vikki
So, i've got my Xtra 30gb, i've had it for well over a year now, its all fine and dandy except from a few scratches from all its adventures
I upgraded everything i could for my nomad yesterday. The mediasource especially, because i didnt install it on my laptop because i've never needed it on here. I upgraded the firmware to .20, but i've heard that its dodgy and that i should roll back to ., is this true?
The reason i installed MediaSource was because i wondered if it had a plugin API.
I belong to a website called last.fm. Last.fm is a service (a free service) that tracks your music listens. It then makes graphs, charts, and things according to what you listen to. With thousands of users, top charts are made, etc. And you can also use their radio service - it creates a radio for you based on what youve already listened to. It suggests new tracks that you would like depending on your neighbours tastes - people who have a similar music interst to you. theres a lot more than that. Its a huge community, and a lot of it is community based.
The way it tracks your music listens is througha plug in that sits nicely onto your player. Wmp, winamp, itunes, whatever, theres loads because theyre mostly made by the users, for the users. you can see the plug in working, you can see it submitting tracks to last.fm. Its called an audioscrobbler plug in, because audioscrobbler.com and last.fm have just merged together.
With the iTunes audioscrobbler plugin, it not only records what you listen to in itunes, it also grabs what youve played from the iPod from when you were out and about when the iPod is later connected to iTunes.
Back to my original enquiry. Is there any way to make plug ins for the media source? i know a lot of people on the last.fm forum who were wondering about this - it means being able to plug the creative in, hook it up to media source, play songs from it and free up tonnes of gb on our harddri'ves. Even if it doesnt record a cache of what youve listened to when the player was away from the computer - a general audioscrobbler plug in would be brilliant.
Incase youre confused, heres some links. I think i've explained what i want in more words than i needed. Hopefully if you get nothing much from this thread you might at least get a chance to try last.fms brilliant service, because its for music lovers.
last.fm is last.fms site
http://www.last.fm/forum/276/_/43945 thats the thread which started it all
http://www.last.fm/user/vikkilea/ thats my music profile
im a bit scared about posting this, so be nice.
And im not sure if links are allowed, please understand that im not advertising, i just want some help on something that needs the links to explain, i think... and also, some of you might be last.fm members anyway...

I've not heard of any specific problem with the Xtra. I know the Touch EQ is broken with the latest firmware. I'm not sure if this happens with the Xtra also.

It would be a great idea. I'm an Audioscrobbler user. As Audioscrobbler say though it would need someone to write it outside of their company.

• Creative Mediasource Organizer Losing Year T

I use Windows XP, Creative Mediasource Organizer version 3.30.35 and my player is a Zen MicroPhoto 8G. I have over 4000 MP3 files organized with id tags in Creative Mediasource Organizer. These are almost exclusivly?MP3 files that I recorded myself. Of the 4000 files?there are only a handful, just?one album that could possibly find tag information?to pull from the internet. Yesterday,?more than?200 of my mp3 files?had blank?year tags. I entered the correct year in several dozen of these so that only about 65 had blank year tags. Then I closed the software and turned of my computer. Today I opened Creative Mediasource Organizer to work on filling in those blank year tags. There were over 400 blank year tags today. What is happening? I have PC Music Library open. I select a single file, right click, click properties, click tag information, enter the year in the year field, click OK. Then I right click and select "update tag" click "yes" to confirm that I want the changes to apply to the file itself and not just to the PC Media Library. Please, someone help me understand why?the number of blank year tags is growing instead of shrinking? What can I do to retain the information I enter in these tags?

YESTERDAY:?Monday March 2, 2007:?I edited my media library from within Creative MediaSource so that there are no files without a valid year in the year tag. For?each MP3 file the other standard tags also contain meaningful data. These are?title, artist, album and?genre,?but not track. I don't see any practical way to use the track field for some of these files, so not all of them have a track number. The files I want in my media library are all the MP3 and WMA files within C:/MP3 and it's subfolders. The properties of C:/MP3 as viewed from "My Computer" are 3922 files and 249 folders. About a dozen are WMA files and one is a text file. All the others are MP3 files. The problem is that?there are quite a number of duplicate entries. And the Media Library is reporting several hundred more files within C:/MP3?than "My Computer" is reporting there.
I used "Tools/Settings/PC Media Library/ Delete invalid entries" but it did NOT remove the duplicate entries. Exiting the program and opening it again did not correct the count either. So I selected ALL the files, right clicked, and selected "update tags." I clicked YES to update the tag data from the media library to the files. When that operation was completed, I deleted all the files from the library but not from the computer. And?now I am?importing all the files within C:/MP3?back into the library. It says "now transferring 859 of 3920 files." This is good! 3920 is very close to 3922 minus the one text file. I want to see if, when this transfer is finished, I will have the correct number of MP3 files in my media library, and I want to see if the tag data, including the year data, remains?intact after this transfer. The transfer is complete. I do have 3920 files in my media library now and the data in the id tags appears to be intact. Hopefully, this will still be the case when I open the software tomorrow. THE NEXT DAY:?Tuesday, March 3, 2007: Grrr! I now have 3950 files in my media library where it should be only 3920. I did not add anything ?or make any edits. Exactly 30 of these entries?have blank year fields. I'm thinking that Creative MediaSource is NOT?loosing the data in year tags as I first thought, rather it's ADDING entries that are identical to existing entries except that the year fields in the added entries are empty. I think that if I enter the correct year data, I will end up with 30 entries that are truly exact duplicates. I don't see a pattern or clue to tell me why these 30 and not the others ... they have different artists, different albums, genres and the data in the missing year fields was not all the same. In the track fields, a few are blank, but most of them have data. "Tools/Settings/PC Music Library/Clean up now" did not elimiinate these 30 extra entries. Looking at the properties of C:/MP3 from "My Computer" still shows 3922 files (one is a text file) ... From my experiments yesterday, I am pretty sure that I can delete these 30 extra entries and be left with valid entries for all my files. This is frustrating. I'm hoping that these observations will be helpful to a programmer working on the next version of Creative MediaSource. I would send these comments directly to them, but they don't seem to provide a way for me to do that.

• MediaSource - functionality & playli

Dear all
i have a Zen Touch 40Gb, a large music library and a number of gripes. i apologise in advance for the length of my post but i'd be really grateful for any advice you can send my way. i've searched through a large number of similar threads on this forum but, frankly, i've not seen a lot of answers (one poor chap was told his was a duplicate question but there was no link to the acti've thread so he's probably still searching for the truth!):-
. Saving/Exporting playlists - a lot of people seem to have this problem/complaint: is there really no way of saving a playlist from MediaSource to a .m3u file? (please note, in response to something i read in another post, i've tried synchronising playlists to my Zen Touch and using the separate explorer software but there is no usable playlist file there either that any of my other software will recognise). i'm trying hard not to sound negati've but this seems like a really basic functionality, particularly given that you can IMPORT .m3u playlists into MediaSource - why not export 'em too?!
2. Sorting playlists - has anyone found a workaround in order to sort playlists created in MediaSource? whether i'm creating a compilation, building a mix, creating a sub-group, avoiding duplication of tracks in an existing list or just trying to vary the play order of my tunes this would be a REALLY useful feature and it seems so simple to include in the software. you can sort in the main music library so why not in the playlist view?! again, i haven't been able to sort playlists within the Zen Touch explorer software either. is there any plan to introduce this functionality? are there any practical workarounds?
3. Reporting playlists - it would also be useful to generate a report of track listings either from playlists or selected songs. the report format could be something no more sexy than a tab-separated text file. these can be pasted into a word or excel document and sorted/searched/printed/saved to our hearts' content. in the absence of functions # & #2 above, this would at least give me some options when it comes to saving and sorting my inspired playlists. alternati'vely, if functions # & #2 were available in MediaSource i could probably li've without #3. but with all of them absent i can barely describe MediaSource as an "organiser" because it simply doesn't enable you to do any real organising (if you're as dull as me, obviously!)
4. File conversion - i've a number of .wma files in my library - mainly 92kb
ps.
whenever i try to convert them to mp3 (i have my reasons!!) the process fails. the error message says the "format conversion is not supported". some (but not all) of these files are downloads from Napster but I purchased the tracks and they should therefore be free to burn to cd or to sync with a portable device so i don't think they are protected. is there any reason why i can't achieve this file conversion?
5. Navigation - again a dull and seemingly minor gripe but therein lies my irritation: the "backward" and "forward" buttons in MediaSource do not function like similar buttons in any other file explorer software i have used (whether designed for music files or otherwise). you can't navigate between recently viewed artist or album folders (of which i, and most other users, have many hundreds) - only between the main library and the playlists. it's not the end of the world but this seems like such a basic feature in any other navigation software that i just don't see why MediaSource doesn't work the same way.
Ideally, i would like to use MediaSource to organise all my music but at the very least if there was an EXPORT function i would be able to transfer the extensi've data & playlists i've already generated into other more sophisticated software. i could then tweak them for use in other programs and also re-import amended playlists back into MediaSource. there is plenty of good quality free software out there and some excellent specialist software available for a very minimal outlay that can organise your mp3s and playlists in ways MediaSource users can only dream of (assuming, of course, that you dream about computer programs. i don't, i promise!) if i could export my playlists i could probably ignore MediaSource for anything other than sync-ing with my Zen Touch and use a stand-alone mp3 organiser to manage my music. i would happily settle for this but I'm surprised and disappointed that a company that is so big in the music industry leaves me in this position.
i know i'm moaning (a lot) but these issues seem so basic to me that i am really frustrated with the lack of features in MediaSource. i chose my Zen Touch deliberately over and above any other mp3 player on the market (including the i-pod) for technical reasons and i stand by that decision. however, as another user has commented in this forum, performance doesn't count for very much if there is no functionality or support.
please, if there is anyone out there with some tips or workarounds to my problems, or someone from Creative who can tell me when software updates will be released to cover these issues, or someone who can point me to an existing thread which received an answer, i may even be willing to part with cash (<EM>may</EM>...!)
Many thanks
pip

• MediaSource Recognition Problem? (Zen Vision:

OK, I had a Zen 20GB for the last year and I loved it to bits. Worked great, but just before Christmas it fell in some water and died . I replaced it with a 60GB Zen Vision:M and didn't mind too much because I had less than GB of space left and would have had to replace it soon anyway.
Now onto my question. With my Zen 20GB when I used Media Source (I think v.3 came with it but I can't remember) it would let me search my Zen and edit tracks in it. The search function was IMO fantastic, especially with a music collection as large as mine. Now when I connect my ZV:M it connects fine. I've transferred plenty of music without bother using Windows Media Player.
However, when I open Media Source (both v.3 and v.5) it doesn't give me any option to explore my Zen like it did when I had my 20GB. I can still explore it using the Zen Explorer, but since this doesn't let you edit the properties for several tracks at a time I find it very frustrating.
Also, if I chose to "Transfer Music", "Transfer Playlist" or "Sync Music" in Media Source I get the message "No Creative mp3 player is detected. Please connect your mp3 player and try again."
Now, I know it's connected since I can explore the contents fine in Zen Explorer and I can transfer to it using WMP. Is there something I haven't installed correctly that is stopping Media Source from recognising my player? It just seems strange since it seems to be the only application not working for it.
Thanks for the help (and sorry if this has been covered else where. I searched but couldn't find anything).

You must also download and install the corresponding MediaSource plugin for your MP3 player in order for MediaSource 5 to detect your MP3 player.

• Zen V 8Gb locks up with MediaSource 5, no longer recognized by

I have an 8G Zen V which I sync using a computer running Windows XP.
I was transferring a file from MediaSource 5 to my 8G Zen V when I noticed that the current file had simply stopped transferring stuck at %. I unplugged the Zen, but instead of returning to the regular play screen it was stuck at the Docking screen. I found a pin and reset the Zen. When I attempted to plug it back into my computer it was not recognized, so I restarted the machine -- still not recognized! When I opened Device Manager the Zen was displayed with an exclamation point surrounded by a yellow circle, an indication that there was trouble with the driver. I attempted to have the OS update the driver, but the operation failed. I ended up restoring the entire OS to an earlier state.
I've concluded that MTP is absolute crap -- this is the second player I've experienced problems with MS's garbage protocol. On a completely different machine, with a different brand of MP3 I could never get MicroCrap to recognize the device as an MTP device, and thus lost out on some of the features for that device that were MTP specific. What happened to the days when you could just drag and drop files onto your device like a hard-dri've and be good to go?
Any other nightmare stories out there?

You said "I am really unbelievably fed-up with the useless "try checking your USB cable"-style"
- Did you try another cable?
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
Try on another computer

• MediaSource sub-windows for Album/Artist/Genre have gone

My wife's Zen Micro (2--02) doesn't seem able to have its music organised by Creative MediaSource Explorer.
I'm sure that MediaSource used to display not only the tracks but had little sub-windows where you could select Album, Artist or Genre and get all the tracks associated with your choice.
However, all that I get now is a list of filenames. OK, I can click on these to get the next folder level which seems to be the album name, then further click to get to the track(s).
What I can't do is get the thing to list all tracks or all albums or all genres. It's just hopeless.
MediaSource, as I say, used to show little sub-windows when I had my Zen Xtra but now my wife's Zen Micro's been added and everything upgraded, these sub-windows for Album and Artist do not appear as they do in the illustration with the blurb...not even with my Zen Xtra.
Further, the Zen Micro doesn't seem to have a list of selected tracks like my Xtra does. The help files seem to refer to one but I'm blowed if I can find it, either via my PC or via the player's own display.
How do you see what's coming up next to play?
Everything's upgraded to the latest using Auto update and I re-loaded the f/w.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, please?

In the bar above the list of tracks there should be a Find box. Next to this is a View button, next to that is a small downward triangle which, when clicked, allows you to select Genre, Album, Artist. Play around with those 2 buttons and you should be able to get back the view you want.
To view the selected tracks click on View in the menu bar and then choose Now Playing Window.

• Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............
Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support.
In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
MEdiaSource with these procedures.
. Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
Manager
(they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
Controllers category).
9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
there
called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
mode.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
mode appears.
Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
Reboot: Reboots the device
Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
not
help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
these steps, as soon as possible.
For faster service please reply with previous correspondence when
replying to this email.

"Get Creative"
I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

LakeTahoeGuy,
Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.

• Creative MediaSource will not play certain MP3

I have a Creative Audigy 2 NX with a remote that I really want to be able to use. Programs such as GIRDER, WinLIRC, and uICE do not support the RM-500 remote control.
I can't figure out how to control the remote beyond editing and creating key files that send ASCII commands, but the problem with that is I cannot control programs that are not currently acti've. In other words, I cannot control winamp if I'm playing a game with my remote, which is what I want to do. The KEY files are structured as this:[KeyEvent690 etc]KeyName=whateveryouwantdisplayedNotification=- or 2 or 4KeyEventRemap=this is the important partHandleByApp=i don't know what this doesAnyway, if I set notification to -, I can send ASCII commands-- BUT these will not send to programs not currently on top. If I set notification to 2, as Creative did in their Winamp .x key file, I could control the program even if it is not on top-- BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE KeyEventRemaps NUMBERS SHOULD BE. I cannot find this information, and I have tested as far as I am capable of doing manually (tested numbers through 500 MANUALLY).So what I want to be able to do is use my remote to control winamp, but that is impossible. And Creative MediaSource will not play streaming audio (for God knows why...). So what I decided to do was record to an MP3 player with a third party program and play that MP3 in the Creative MediaSource software (the built-in recorder will NOT work, as I cannot structure that into a playlist nor can I play the recording media nor can I minimize the program and mute the feedback-- I can only record if I'm playing, and this doesn't work). The first problem I encountered was several programs would not output MP3s that were playable as they were being recorded, however I finally did find one. This program, 3aLab iRadio, allows the MP3 to be played back WHILE simultaneously being recorded. The only problem is that this the Creative MediaSource software will NOT play the mp3. Out of the 5 different MP3 players I tested, ONLY the Creative MediaSource software would not playback the MP3 as being written. I cannot figure this out, and I am at a loss as to what to do next. I realize that Creative won't support streaming audio with their player, MediaSource, but what I like to do is listen to streaming internet radio as an item on my mp3 playlist in winamp. I wish to be able to control this with my remote, but as I cannot find ANY WAY out there to control my remote as I wish without further information, this is a dead end. My alternati've is to use the Creative software for which the remote was designed to work, but unfortunately this does not support streaming internet radio nor does it support MP3s that are being written to. This is driving me insane.
What I want to be able to do is have a playlist that I control with my remote, with the first item on the list being internet radio, the 2nd and such on down being MP3s. In winamp, this is doable, as well as in Windows Media Player, and most MP3 players out there. Since I cannot do this in Creative's software, I need a workaround alternati've. PLEASE.
So, in conclusion, is there anyone out there who can either tell me how to control my remote directly by identifying what the notification=2 keyeventremap=configuarions are, give me a program like girder however which supports the RM-500 remote, or tell me how to get MP3s that are being written to (aka incomplete) to play in the Creative MediaSource software?
Thank you very much for your time.

• Remote Control and MediaSourc

I hava an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. I formated my HD last night and reinstalled XP. I then installed the new drivers and Media Source 5 and new DTS Neo plugin. But when I tried to install the old Remote Control plugin, it didn't work, it said I don't have a new Media Source. I couldn't find a new version of the plugin (compatible with media source 5), so, how am I supposed to make remote control work?ThxClaudio Lima">[email protected]?

It is a known issue that the remote does not work in MediaSource 5.
See this thread....

You only alternati'ves are to:
. Go back to MediaSource 3.
2. Find alternati've Remote control software solutions that work regardless of the version of MediaSource. There are many alternati'ves if you search these forums.
Hope that helps!

• Creative MediaSource Playlist to Winamp Playl

Hello, I'm just wondering if it is possible to take a Creative MediaSource Organizer playlist and turn it into a playlist that can be used in Winamp. I don't really like using anything other than Winamp to play music, and I don't feel like recreating all of my playlists (I have a LOT of them) into playlists that can be read by Winamp. Thanks for the help and answers :-).

, I would suggest using the Zen Media Explorer for your device to make & edit playlists. It is on the install disc. MediaSource is not that good. Of all the Creative software the Zen Media Explorer for each player is one I do use often for this reason.

• MediaSource Organizer closes after it opens upon detection of the Zen Sle

Basically, i plug in the USB for my Zen Sleek, and then Creative MediaSource Organizer opens for a second then closes instantaneously. I don't know why this is happening. I look under processes in my task manager and i find CTCMS.exe running and so i try to end task it, but it will not let me. The only reason i find this would be happening is because i recently (just today) installed a new Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card. Is there any way of fixing this problem? And by the way, if i do need to uninstall/install the MediaSource Organizer again, will all of my playlists be deleted? (took me a looong time to get those playlists organized)Message Edited by mdjstudios on 2-3-2005 03:52 AM

I am pretty sure that it is caused by the Audigy 2 drivers. I have seen other users having the same problem, and have fixed the problem by updating their Audigy 2 drivers. You should update your Audigy 2 drivers. Let us know if it works for you.
And don't worry. The playlist will not be deleted when you unintsall MediaSource. The entire PC Music Library, including playlists are kept intact.

• MediaSource Organizer Never Delet

Let's say I have 0 albums on my computer's playlist. And let's say I have a brand-new MuVo2 FM unit. I connect it via USB, I run a sync, and voila, I have the exact same ten albums on my player.
But then let's say I get tired of one of the albums. So I delete it from my computer playlist, meaning I have 9 albums now on my playlist. On my next sync, I expect my MuVo to also have 9 albums. I expect it to get rid of the one that's not on my playlist.
But no -- after doing some searching on the board, I've come to the conclusion that Creative MediaSource Organizer never deletes anything from my MuVo2 FM unit. Is this true? I can't believe Creative expects to compete with Apple if they don't allow a sync to be a true sync.
If they're afraid of newbies losing their music somehow, then should't they at least have the option to allow the Organizer to delete files from the MuVo?
I've tried the Realplayer since one of the messages says it does sync, but Real makes a total mess (no directory structure, and it doesn't even write the playlists).

However, when I try to explore the content of my jukebox in the organizer, instead of listing the contents on a track-by-track basis, I am presented with a standard windows-explorer style screen, with the contents listed by folder. This doesn't occur when I explore the PC music library. How can I restore the original view, which allowed me to explore my mp3 player on a track-by-track basis, and allowed me to sort by genre?
That's how it works when you have the PFS firmware (2.0.03) loaded.

• Creative MediaSource and ID3 t

Creative MediaSource doesn't seem to update it's internal database from ID3 tags. For example I ripped a CD and MediaSource failed to get the year of the album. So, I added the information to the Id tags using Winamp. I reimported the file into MediaSource but it still fails to display the year correctly. Does Mediasource ignore ID tag information accept to overwrite it's

Thanks, yes that worked. It's a nuisance that the updating doesn't occur automatically but it's much better than not working at all.
