MediaSource Quest

When I use the Music Analyzer in MediaSource do I have to resync the mp3s to the player?

Yes, you'll need to copy the files across again to get the analysis to work.
Syncing with MediaSource will never delete files, either on the player or the library. Check to see if the freeware Nomadsync or the shareware Notmad Explorer do this.

I'm using Mediasource with?a 40GB Zen Xtra and my question deals with playlists. The problem is I'm in the process of?editing my playlists, but I have a lot of duplicate songs within the playlists. First, is there any function within the program to detect duplicates?Probably not, but.... A problem I've noticed is?when you are viewing your playlists in Mediasource, it won't allow you to sort by clicking 'artist', 'album', 'genre', etc. at the top like you can when you are viewing songs out of the playlist mode. In other words, there is no way to sort the songs according to artist within a playlist, which would make it MUCH easier to spot duplicates. The only workaround I can think of is assigning all of the songs to a unique genre like 'zzzzz', leaving the playlist mode, view genres, go to zzzzz and then sort. The problem is this permanently alters the genre info on a lot of songs. Am I missing something? Is there an easier way?I've recently updated to the most current version of Mediasource. TIAVernon

Creating all new playlists would be a royal pain considering the number of files involved, but maybe that will be my final option. I'll keep playing with it and see what I can come up with.
maybe you can just listen to them and if you think: heeey i've heard that song already, stop the music and delete the song
but of course, i don't know how big your playlists are

  • Still Learning the Ropes--Creative MediaSource Quest

I've recently sync'd all my MP3 files from Zen Touch to PC hard dri've with MediaSource. No problems really, but I notice that the transfer has created a folder for each of the artists in my collection with all tracks by that artist within. In addition to the folders, all tracks are displayed individually (in Windows Explorer). This doesn't seem to have doubled the size of my MP3 directory, so what are the folders for and do they in some way duplicate the individual tracks?
    Thanks

    Micromouse
    Sure.
After I sync'd the tracks from Zen Touch to PC hard dri've, when I go to Windows Explorer, MP3 Directory (where my music files are) I now have a long group of artist folders, for example "0 CC." In this folder are all the 0CC tracks I have: "Dreadlock Holiday," I'm Not in Love" etc, etc. Now, if I scroll down past all the artist folders, I have 700-odd individual tracks, the first two of which are "0 CC-Dreadlock Holiday" and "0CC-I'm not in Love"
I don't necessarily think there's a problem, but I'm wondering why the duplication exists and whether this duplication is taking up extra hard dri've space.
Am I making any sense here?

  • Loading Zen w/MediaSource quest

The problem I am having is since buying a Zen Sleek Photo and using MS (v3.30) to load songs, same song titles (but different songs, and on different albums) will not load without?changing the song title. Up to now I've owned a Nomad Jukebox, and when loading music MS would always allow?songs of the same title (as long as the songs were on different albums) to be loaded, completely hassel free. Is this the norm with Zen or am I missing something? Right now the biggest problem is transferring music from the Nomad to the Zen and there's a lot of music there. If anyone can give me a hint on how to make this easier I would appreciate it.

    Thanks for your reply.
I don't even make it to the point where I am trying to do a sync. Media Organizer crashes without ever even displaying the contents of the Zen Xtra. Funny though, the Nomad explorer shows the contents, and even lets me drag and drop folders into it.
I will try out one of the third party SW packages you recommended. Kind of a black eye for Creative in my book though. I do system and software testing for a living, and am very surprised that something that is that problematic has been released/distributed.
My son has an Ipod and his SW works great.
I love the way the Zen sounds ... in my opinion, better than the Ipod, Creative just needs to finish the package so they have better customer satisfaction.

I have my preferences set under the AudioCD/Rip Tab for the Rip Format to WMA, Stereo, DRM Disabled, 96kb
    ps.
When I Rip a CD to my hard dri've, the CD is ripped once at 96 kbps into the album's folder and then again at 64 kbps into a subfolder named WMA_64K under the album folder. What gives? Thanks.

Well, I'll answer my own question in case it might help someone else. I had smart fit enabled; I was ripping actually to my Zen Nano at 96 kb
    ps.
So, it ripped to my Nano and then ripped to my hard dri've at 64. If you don't want to do this, turn off smart fit. By the way, I think it is crazy to have a "Settings" under the Tools button and also ANOTHER setings that appears only when a portable device is present, ESPECIALLY when that Settings tab IS NOT VISIBLE when the portable device is in the right hand pane. Makes it very hard for a newbie like me to figure out what is happening.
Another discovery: When you are ripping to a portable device, make sure that you are ripping to the "Creative Media Source" device; in my case, this is "Zen Nano Plus [F:\]". If instead you rip to the explorer version, in my case "Removable Disk F:" by navigating through My Computer, it will take much, much, much longer to rip the CD.

  • Mediasource Organizer 3.30.21 Quest

I have just updated my mediasource organizer to be compatible with my latest firmware update for my 60GB Creative Zen Xtra (2.0.03). However, when I try to explore the content of my jukebox in the organizer, instead of listing the contents on a track-by-track basis, I am presented with a standard windows-explorer style screen, with the contents listed by folder. This doesn't occur when I explore the PC music library.
How can I restore the original view, which allowed me to explore my mp3 player on a track-by-track basis, and allowed me to sort by genre?

That's how it works when you have the PFS firmware (2.0.03) loaded.

Does Creative Mediasource 2 (v2.02.06) for Audigy 2ZS support international characters? Or is there a way to make it support them?
I have some greek songs in my Music Library and Mediasource does't recognize them, it simply writes ? instead of the filename. WMP 0 recognizes both filenames and TAGs written in greek.

    <FONT face="Tms Rmn">
I shall describe the steps for English WinXP. It should not be difficult to find the equivalence if your WinXP is non-English.
Go to Control Panel. Select "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options". Select "Regional and Language Options". Select the Advanced setting page. Under "Language for non-Unicode programs", select the desired language. (In your case, it is Greek.)

  • Creative mediasource organizer questi

I am trying to edit the track information for all of the songs on my creative zen vision:M, but i cannot figure out how to simply view all of my tracks on the organizer program. It only prompts some of the artists/albums. How can i view a list of all the audio tracks without having to go through folders of artists/albums? The program is creative mediasource 5 organizer. In addition, the audio tracks will not play through the program when i click play, how can i fix that problem?

First off, I will say I went & tried! & everything works fine on my end!
I am now in the "Creative MediaSource V3.30.35" Program, with my Zen Vision M into a Windows XP Profesional PC, connected with a USB cable! (logged in as Administrator)
The ZEN LCD is with the "Docked" displayed!
In the MediaSource Program, I see 3 "main" windows, two on the left stacked, and one on the right! (if I have the "Hide right panel selected, in the "View" tab!
The top Left window is to select what you want the MediaSource Program, to play/edit..
Find the "Creative Vision M" folder!
    then select "Music"
Then the folder of your choice (I have mine in alphabetical order, to reduce my folder sizes, so they load faster)
wait for it to load that folder to the "right window"
once you see your MP3?s double click on one, and it will open into the "Bottom Left Window" now press the "Play button"
To edit the "Tag" info, in the "right window" you can select more than one track at a time by holding the "Shift" or the "Control" key. Once selected, right click with the mouse cursor over your selection, and a drop down list will appear, asking what you want to edit!
    Hope this helps?

  • Lost My SuperRip and a MediaSource and Zen V Plus Quest

Seems as if after I did my software updates for MediaSource, I don't have the ability to use the SuperRip. The regular rip ability is there, but no SuperRip. I want it back. I tried uninstalling MediaSource and reinstalling, but it did not work.
My other question- I have a Creative XF-i Fataity sound card, a Creative ZEN V Plus, & a Muvo V200 (my daughter's). When I install the software for those, it installs MediaSource 5. Now I have the MediaSource (one that came with X-Fi) and MediaSource 5. I'm surprised to see the two install themselves separately. Anything wrong with uninstalling one of them?
Finally, when I updated the firmware on my ZEN V Plus, the sync manager does not work. I get the dialog box that asks if I want to send a report to Microsoft.

  • Mediasource Software quest

I just got my zen micro today and I was testing the mediasource to see how it performs compared to jri'ver. I ripped two cd's but the software takes two songs from each cd and puts them in a seperate folder for no apparent reason. I have to go back and cut and past the files into the main album folder. Anyone know how to stop this? Thanks.

What are the name of the directories that the 2 songs are ripped to You should go to MediaSource's Tools->Settings->PC Music Library->Properties to see what is the settings for the folder location to store a new track.

  • Mediasource Autosync quest

    Hi,
Since my collection exists of many artists and albums, I've organized my MP3 files in subdirectories by Artist and Album.
    Example:
    F:\My Music
    Pink Floyd
    Animals
0-Pigs On The Wing (Part One).mp3
    02-Dogs.mp3
    03-Pigs (Three Different Ones).mp3
    ...... etc.
    Dark Side Of The Moon
    0-Speak To Me.mp3
    02-On The Run.mp3
    03-Time.mp3
    ...... etc.
In Media Source I've setup the PC Library so that it points to F:\My Music and that new files should be created as F:\My Music\Artist\Album\trackno - title.mp3
When I copy tracks manually in Media Source from my Zen Touch to PC then files are copied correctly in my directory structure as F:\My Music\Artist\Album\trackno - title.mp3 (like: F:\Deep Purple\Made In Japan\0 - Highway Star.mp3). However, when I use the Auto Sync option to synchronize files from my Zen to PC then any new file that is not on my PC is copied directly as F:\My Music\title.mp3, thus ignoring my previous settings.
Is there a way to setup the AutoSync feature to use subdirectories? If not, does anyone know another tool that would allow my to synchronize the Zen Touch properly with my PC (preferably freeware)? Important for me is ease of use and transmission speed. Note: I already tried out RealPlayer and Windows MediaPlayer. RealPlayer I didn't like, because it kept connecting me to the Internet and in Windows MediaPlayer I seem to be able to synchronize only from PC to Zen, but not the other way around.
Many thanks in advance for your help,
    Tom.

    Hi SSR,
thanks for the info. I'd already tried the latest MediaSource version from Nomad World, but that doesn't support subdirectories either. Anyway, I think I'd have to li've with the imperfect Sync feature. Should I have to copy files back from the Zen to my external harddisk, I could use the normal Media Source copy feature.
Nethertheless I'm still interested to hear whether a better synchronization tool that synchronizes from Zen to PC and visa-versa exists.
    Ciao, Tom

  • Creative MediaSource 5 - more questi

Arg! How do I get rid of these annoying tooltips that keep popping up? How can get the program to open without displaying the now playing side bar? Has anyone else experienced instability when changing menu settings? The program seems to crash about one third of the time.
    Thanks,
    ZP

Hi, the version is 5.0.25. I tried closing immediately but the Now Playing Box still keeps coming back. It's a minor inconvenience but the tool tips are infuriating. They don't show up on the home menu but always appear when I choose a task from the home menu. I can't see any way to bypass the home menu and that doesn't seem to be a problem. I've looked through the preferences but I can't find a way to switch them off. On the bright side I haven't had any crashes today. If I do get a crash I'll report back what I was doing when it happened.

  • Creative Mediasource ID3 Tags - Edit more than one year at a ti

I use a 60gb Zen Xtra with Mediasource. I take pride in the ID3 tags of all my files especially those of my Jazz collection and my player is well organised. The only thing I have to ask is - is there any way of editing the year of, say, an entire album that was recorded in 959 for example all at the same time. It lets me do this for Artist, Album and Genre but not year. Is there any upgrade in software I can get or am I just missing something here?
Thanks in advance for your input,Matt

Shucks, I tried and you can't seem to do it. A curious oversight.
You can either use another copying program like which will let you do it, or simply get a mass tagger (but you will need to edit the tracks on the PC first, then copy). For some mass tagger recommendations look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Trouble with Creative Mediasource

I'm using the latest driver (2.0.00) And Firmware (2.0.03), and CMS5 5.0.38, with the plugins for Zen and the PlaysForSure. My system us Windows XP, SP2, and I meet the minimum system reqs for the program.
Since "upgrading" to Creative MEdiasource 5, I've run into several problems, perhaps all interconnected.
--Mediasource takes an incredibly long time to load my Zen (40 GB Zen Xtra), upwards of 3 minutes. This took only a few seconds in previous versions. This is present when connected through my front, back and USB hub ports.
--Mediasource will rip a CD incredibly slowly. If I try to transfer more than one CD (That is, one, the procedure ends, and then start up another), I will get an error message and MEdiacsource will shut down.
--Sometimes, the window itself will disappear, and I will be unable to access it. This has happened a couple of times instead of the previous problem. The process will still run, but I will be unable to reload it, and trying to forcibly end the process (Task Manager) seems not to work. This also happens sometimes when I browse away from my Zen (Say, to a CD or file on my computer), and come back to my Zen.
I tried using my prior version, but it doesn't recognise my Playsforsure device at present, and I'm not sure if it's even possible to alter it.
Is anyone else having a similar problem? I loved Mediasource prior to this version: It was a sleek, easy and intuiti've interface and covered almost all of my Organisation needs. I did check the boards, but I may have missed a similar problem. I'm wondering if this is an issue that people have a solution to.
    Any help's appreciated.

    Hello:
I have formatted the player using the recovery menu as well as with WMP, because both are the recommended and "only" ways to format, depending on who you listen to. No difference, however in the way WMP behaves. When I get to the point where WMP can only sync a small few files, if I do a Cleanup (from rescue mode), let the Nomad rebuild the library, I can usually get more files in before it clogs up again. Every time I do a fresh format, I lose a couple of days worth of work, so I'm not doing it again.
I don't have any way to control how much of the library to synchronize once it has gotten past my playlists, unless I spend time creating more playlists for this purpose. With a 60 G Nomad, and a library suitable for that storage, that's a TON of music to deal with.
I'm still trying to figure out whether this is a Windows Media Player issue, a driver issue, or a Nomad firmware issue. Since I have to reset the Nomad between each sync attempt, and occasionally do a cleanup, I'm guessing it's the Nomad, and since I've seen it on more than one unit, I'm guessing it's a firmware bug.
I'm hoping someone else has seen this issue and has a better idea. I hate all my choices: Notmad is frustrating because I can't get my playlists to come across. Creative Media Source is less reliable than WMP, so that leaves WMP as the least aggravating way to sync, and it works flawlessly with my smaller sized Sansa Clip from the same library.

  • Creative mediasource, plugins, audiosrobbler etc

    Hey, im Vikki
So, i've got my Xtra 30gb, i've had it for well over a year now, its all fine and dandy except from a few scratches from all its adventures
I upgraded everything i could for my nomad yesterday. The mediasource especially, because i didnt install it on my laptop because i've never needed it on here. I upgraded the firmware to .20, but i've heard that its dodgy and that i should roll back to ., is this true?
The reason i installed MediaSource was because i wondered if it had a plugin API.
I belong to a website called last.fm. Last.fm is a service (a free service) that tracks your music listens. It then makes graphs, charts, and things according to what you listen to. With thousands of users, top charts are made, etc. And you can also use their radio service - it creates a radio for you based on what youve already listened to. It suggests new tracks that you would like depending on your neighbours tastes - people who have a similar music interst to you. theres a lot more than that. Its a huge community, and a lot of it is community based.
The way it tracks your music listens is througha plug in that sits nicely onto your player. Wmp, winamp, itunes, whatever, theres loads because theyre mostly made by the users, for the users. you can see the plug in working, you can see it submitting tracks to last.fm. Its called an audioscrobbler plug in, because audioscrobbler.com and last.fm have just merged together.
With the iTunes audioscrobbler plugin, it not only records what you listen to in itunes, it also grabs what youve played from the iPod from when you were out and about when the iPod is later connected to iTunes.
Back to my original enquiry. Is there any way to make plug ins for the media source? i know a lot of people on the last.fm forum who were wondering about this - it means being able to plug the creative in, hook it up to media source, play songs from it and free up tonnes of gb on our harddri'ves. Even if it doesnt record a cache of what youve listened to when the player was away from the computer - a general audioscrobbler plug in would be brilliant.
Incase youre confused, heres some links. I think i've explained what i want in more words than i needed. Hopefully if you get nothing much from this thread you might at least get a chance to try last.fms brilliant service, because its for music lovers.
    last.fm is last.fms site
http://www.last.fm/forum/276/_/43945 thats the thread which started it all

im a bit scared about posting this, so be nice.
And im not sure if links are allowed, please understand that im not advertising, i just want some help on something that needs the links to explain, i think... and also, some of you might be last.fm members anyway...

I've not heard of any specific problem with the Xtra. I know the Touch EQ is broken with the latest firmware. I'm not sure if this happens with the Xtra also.

It would be a great idea. I'm an Audioscrobbler user. As Audioscrobbler say though it would need someone to write it outside of their company.
