MediaSource sub-windows for Album/Artist/Genre have gone
My wife's Zen Micro (2--02) doesn't seem able to have its music organised by Creative MediaSource Explorer.
I'm sure that MediaSource used to display not only the tracks but had little sub-windows where you could select Album, Artist or Genre and get all the tracks associated with your choice.
However, all that I get now is a list of filenames. OK, I can click on these to get the next folder level which seems to be the album name, then further click to get to the track(s).
What I can't do is get the thing to list all tracks or all albums or all genres. It's just hopeless.
MediaSource, as I say, used to show little sub-windows when I had my Zen Xtra but now my wife's Zen Micro's been added and everything upgraded, these sub-windows for Album and Artist do not appear as they do in the illustration with the blurb...not even with my Zen Xtra.
Further, the Zen Micro doesn't seem to have a list of selected tracks like my Xtra does. The help files seem to refer to one but I'm blowed if I can find it, either via my PC or via the player's own display.
How do you see what's coming up next to play?
Everything's upgraded to the latest using Auto update and I re-loaded the f/w.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, please?
In the bar above the list of tracks there should be a Find box. Next to this is a View button, next to that is a small downward triangle which, when clicked, allows you to select Genre, Album, Artist. Play around with those 2 buttons and you should be able to get back the view you want.
To view the selected tracks click on View in the menu bar and then choose Now Playing Window.

Some Album Art Missing in Albums/Artists/Genres
An issue with iTunes 11. I have noticed that I have several tracks that are not displaying the album art when I view them in the "Albums", "Artists", or "Genres" modes. I'm seeing the generic white box with the gray musical note, not the art. These tracks DO have art attached to them. The art is there when I bring up the track's "get info" box. It also displays next to the progress bar and in the pop-up album art player window that shows up when I click the art. But it's refusing to display in the main window in any of those three modes. How do I fix this?
Been watching this problem an these forums and no known (easy) fix.
What I've done is manually:
From the ALBUMS pane, select the offending Album
Select an individual track and do Get Info
In the Get Info window, Press the Next button.
That usually works .... but if not
Select the cover art, cut it (CMD-X)
Press the Next Button, then the Previous Button to go back to the empty pane
Paste the art (CMD-V)
Press OK to exit ..... -
I dont remember this being a problem in iTunes 10.
Say I'm in album view. I find an album I want to play. I click on the track. Cool.
Then I decide "Oh I need to see if this album is on a playlist I have."
I switch to playlist view to check out the playlist.
Then when I want to move back to album view, I've lost my place and have to use the "go to" scrolldown menu.
Why can't I switch back and forth between playlists and albums and have iTunes save my place?
What would solve this problem is the little "go to" icon that was on Itunes 10. I hate the scrollbar. Take me to the place I was before! I shouldn't have to think about using this stupid scrollbar. It should essentially be as quick as a "back" button on a web browser, but it's not!This is my #1 biggest complaint/annoyance with iTunes 11. I tried searching for posts about this issue a dozen times but never found any, no one seems to know what I'm talking about when I describe this issue to them. Haha, so I'm glad I'm not the only one.
But like you said, it's so freakin' annoying that when you're looking at like a Jack Johnson song in your music library, and then click on a playlist to see if a particular Jack Johnson song is in that playlist, when you click back over to your music library you're all the way back up at the top at the 'A' artists and not where you left off. There have been two updates to iTunes 11 and they've yet to bring that feature back. I just sent them a feedback request regarding the issue, so hopefully they'll become aware of it. -

Thank you.No. Some albums have various artists. For example, I have +Satin Doll: Smooth Jazz Plays Duke Ellington+. For album artist, I have "Various," but for each song I have the primary performer of that song as the artist. Album views come up Various, while songs come up with the artist. It's good for grouping tracks. Also, some people like to included featured guests in the Artist field, but having the Album Artist consistent helps with various views in iTunes and on the iPod.

Since updating to IOS5 many song artist are missing. I set up iTunes to sort on song artist but when I sync, my ipod tyrs to sort by album artist not song artist. How can I get the ipod touch to sort by song artist???? Most of my Song artists show up under Various which is the entry for album artist. Please help! I have aver 9000 songs with this problem. I think it looks at the Artist field, if Album Artist is blank. So, for the songs on affected albums, you can try removing the "Various Artists" entry for Album Artist field (in iTunes). Try this on one affected album, to see if it does what you want.
NOTE: In iTunes, you can select multiple songs at the same time (such as all songs on an album), do a Get Info (right-click selection - Get Info) on selection, and remove the entry for Album Artist for all selected songs at the same time, from the Info window. -
Use Album Artists causes repeat values of Various Artists
The obvious implication of the new *Use Album Artist* feature in the Colum Browser is that only Album Artist values will be listed and further that each will be listed only once, sorted by the value of Album Artist or Sort Album Artist. It may be that the previous build (where the feature was introduced) did just this but I have noticed that the current build with Group Compilations turned off will, for example, list the value Various Artists at multiple locations in the Artist column in the browser.
For example, say we have a playlist with albums by Alice, Charlie, Eric & Grace together with a compilation featuring artists Bob, Dave & Fiona with an album artist value of "Various Arists".
With *Use Album Artists* turned on and *Group Compilations* turned off I would expect I would expect the artist panel in the column browser to read:
Alice
Charlie
Eric
Grace
Various Artists
but what we actualy get is:
Alice
Various Artists
Charlie
Various Artists
Eric
Various Artists
Grace
In other words each different value used for Album Artist with compilations, Various Artist, Original Cast, etc. may be listed multiple times at multiple locations within the Artist column instead of just once as expected.
So, is it just me? Anybody still on 9.1.0.79 or a Mac build care to confirm if they see the same?
tt2Compilations need a value for album artist to keep them connected on an iPhone as I've noted elsewhere. However exploring the problem further it isn't even about compilations & various artists, it was just working with them that brought it to my attention. A more accurate description of the problem is:
With the new *Use Album Artists* feature turned on the artist pane fails to re-sort when you change the value of Album Artist or Sort Album Artist and does not update until you close and re-open iTunes.
E.g. Change "Albert King" to "King, Albert" in either Album Artist, Sort Album Artist or both and the entry in the Artists pane will stay put under A. Close iTunes and re-open and it will have moved to K.
I have already sent feedback with a link to this thread. Again it would be useful if any Mac or Win 9.1.0.79 users could confirm if they see the same behaviour.

Basically I brought a album of the iTunes Store, Depzman - 2 Real, specifically, edited the album features, such as, artists and put the featuring artists, which before I edited it was placed in brackets at the end of the song title like most iTunes songs, but when i put it on my iPhone which is on manually handle music and videos, the artist which i removed from the song title do not appear, only the album artists, I have reset my iPhone completely using the delete all settings and content in the hope of it being the iPhones fault and it has not changed, urgh, what a waste of time / effort, now I have now gotten to the point of fed up cos I feel like I've tried everything, ive re-downloded them and done it all again, still nothing, so now I'm puzzled and don't understand why it wont appear the same on my iPhone as it does in my iTunes library, please can someone help me solve this pain in the ***, I'm OCD when it comes to music and if it doesn't appear the way it should i get annoyed / frustrated -.-

My 3D And Analysis menus have gone missing in my PS CS4 Extended
Hopefully this is the correct place to post this. I have PS CS4 Extended version, and I had the 3D and Analysis menus like it's supposed to have, and now for some reason, they have gone missing, they are not there in my top menu items anymore, there are 9 there now instead of 11, I just noticed this recently, and when I open the program, on the splash screen, it just says Adobe Photoshop CS4, and not Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended like it used to, is there any explanation for this? I have it installed on my laptop, which is a hp dv6 1360us, and it does have the proper hardware to handle 3D and the sort and there have been no changes to that, so that really can't be the issue. I do remember using ccleaner about a week or 2 ago to clean up my computer and in doing so I accidently removed a few files that had photoshop in the filename, registry files, so could I possibly have messed up my photoshop by removing those files? I don't really know. I did a system restore, and got those files back, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my version of photoshop, and I still have the same problem. If anyone could possibly help me sort this out it would be awesome and I'd really appreciate it.
Was this a 30 day trial download of PS CS4 extended and maybe you purchased, from Adobe, PS CS4 (not extended) serial number and entered that?
the serial number that is entered determines if PS CS4 is Extended or not.
I would contact Adobe Customer service. There is nothing anybody can do on here with a serial number problem. -
Issues with setting "Album Artist" in iTunes 9.2.5.1 on Windows 7
I googled this for a while but haven't been able to find this issues mentioned anywhere else yet. Here's what's happening: I am importing CDs to iTunes 9.2.1.5 on Windows 7 Pro (64 Bit) using MP3 Encoder > Higher Quality. All is well except for a few CDs where I'd like to set an overall Album Artist. Example: Tony Bennett's Duets: An American Classic. When importing the CD it shows up under "Various Artists" since "Artist" is always Tony Bennett plus whoever he sings with. To make sure the album shows up under Tony Bennett in the library I click on the album and set "Album Artist" to Tony Bennett. That, however results in changing the "Artist" field as well now so all fields say Tony Bennett, which shouldn't happen, "artists" should stay unchanged. I tried this with several albums and the behavior is always the same.
I also tried the back door by going into the actual folder of the album in Windows then change the MP3 details and populate "Album Artist" there for all tracks within the album. Once I re=open iTunes it registers the change only for the first track but not the rest. So I re-import the folder into iTunes and then it does take "Album Artist" and also leaves "Artist" unchanged but for some reason has now lots of numbers under "Comments". There seems to be a mismatch of the field attributes between iTunes and Windows for MP3 files (possibly other formats as well). Wondering if anyone else has observed this or if I am just missing some setting.FYI iTunes handling of ID3v2.4 tags seems to have some issues as well... Translating genres into their numeric codes for one thing. I'd recommend sticking with v2.3.
I'm not exactly sure from your posts what you were seeing. Was the artist being changed in Get Info. after you'd set Album Artist, or was it changing elsewhere on screeen? iTunes 9(.1 I think) added an option *View > Column Browser > Use Album Artists*. Unfortunately this doesn't change the heading of the column so that you "see" it is now only listing album artists but that's what it does.
There is also an occasional issue with the current build in that sometimes changes to Album Artist or Sort Album Artist fail to be reflected properly in the column browser until iTunes is closed and reopened.

[Suggestion]: Auto-merging alternately spelled artists/genres/albums etc
Wouldn't it be nice if all...
"Bob Dylan", and
"B.Dylan", and
"Dylan, Bob", and
"Dylan, B.", and
"Dylan" etc
...could be auto-merged to ONE artist, so that Dylan doesn't appear 5 times in my artist list?
Shouldn't i-Tunes library have a field for "known alternate spellings" for each artist etc? Or the i-Tunes program could automatically rename known alternate spellings to the chosen "standard" (user-specified or even database-fixed, no problem with me, just make it ONE and only ONE please!)
The same could apply for slightly misspelled album names, genres etc. God knows how many R&B's I got in my library...Nobody said "without approval", but having a one-botton solution to fix all misspellings and tag problems implies it.
Just curious, how in the world did you get a library full of
"Bob Dylan", and
"B.Dylan", and
"Dylan, Bob", and
"Dylan, B.", and
"Dylan" etc
in the first place? If it was from non-standard sources, that's one price for getting content from unknown sources. I am positive itunes/Gracenote didn't do it - pop in a Dylan CD, and it gets tagged as Bob Dylan.
A perfectly tagged & organized digital library is a thing of joy, and it takes time. It took me months to rip my hundreds of CDs. Then a few years later when album art was added to itunes, it took me another few months to get the art by hand, since it didn't download from the store automatically. I'd have fun with my hobby and do a few albums at a time.

Some artists don't qappear in browser window for a playlist
I've been struggling to find a way to browse a large library of classical music. The browser window is a great idea but I can't find a way to add a browser window pane for the Composer tag. So I selected all the tracks with composer=beethoven and made a playlist.
I notice that some artists for tracks in the playlist don't appear in the Artist browser pane. (For example, Szell/ Cleveland Orchestra.) I don't know how many Artist names are missing from the Browser's Artist but there are at least 2 missing.
I can see the Artist name "Szell..." in the track listings for the playlist. If I'm browsing the library, I see "Szell ..." in the Browser window Artist pane. I just don't see "Szell ..." in the Artist Pane of the browser window for the Beethoven Playlist.
I tried deleting the Beethoven playlist and re-creating it. I get the same problem again.
I'm using iTunes for Windows v 4.7.1.30. I haven't upgraded to the latest iTunes for Windows because I see reports of problems after the upgrade.

depends on the nature and quality of the CD. On my CDs
of Beethoven symphonies or piano concertos Beethoven's name
will appear.
As I said in my first message, the artist name appears in the track listing. I have edited the tags to show the correct composer ("Beethoven" in this case) and to show the soloist then conductor and then the orchestra in the artist tag. ("Szell/ Cleveland orchestra" in this case.)
I see the "Szell..." in the artist field for the tracks for the symphonies conducted by Szee in my library. When I select Library in the source list, I see "Szell..." in the Artist Browser list. However, when I select the Beethoven playlist, I don't see "Szell ..." in the Artist Browser list. I see the tracks listed and the Artist field says "Szell ..." as expected.
This isn't a problem with the information in the CDDB database iTunes uses to get the tag values it assigns to tracks from a CD. I've edited the tags to fit my conventions.

As I've already said to get this far: I have lost a lot of tracks while syncing my iPod Touch with iTunes. I have managed to get free downloads of some of the single tracks, but when I try to download entire albums the system informs me that I have already purchased them and a pop-up window informs me I can get them back from my "Purchased" file. I would not be trying to dowload them again if they were anywhere on the iPod, would I? The other problem seems to be that with single tracks I don't know before I hit the purchase button if I have picked it from the right album and I have had to pay for it again.
I feel that I have been totally ripped off by iTunes and, apart from ranting on this forum, I don't seem to be able to let my feelings known. It's like a guy from my local record store coming round and nicking my albums and telling me that it's tough!
The point here is folks, that it was syncing two Apple sites which caused the loss of these tracks and from what I've read elsewhere this is a regular fault. And please don't tell me that it's my fault for having a pc. Apple shouldn't sell a product for pc, when it doesn't work on pc!- Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?

- Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
- Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck

I just installed iTunes 10.5 (latest version as of 11 Jan 2012), onto a computer running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I loaded my music library into it, it compiled the list and separated them by album. But even though I'd assigned most of the albums artwork through my Zune management software (a Microsoft product), almost none of them populated into iTunes. So I went through and started asking the software to try to find album artwork where possible.
I did this a few times album by album, then I decided to select multiple albums and see what happened. No problems. Then I selected all of the albums I had--about 600 in all--and asked it to get artwork. It seemed to process for a bit, then came back with the error, "Artwork for [album name] could not be located. You do not have permission to access the requested resource." I tried this on several individual albums, only to receive that same error.
The very first time I did it, I was told I needed an account with the iTunes store to make it work, so I signed in using an old Apple ID (the account had been inactive for so long it had been locked for security, I unlocked it and that seemed to be that). Then I did what I described above.
The weird thing--to me--is that I can still add artwork to the albums manually if I want to, from imagery stored locally on my own computer. The only thing it seems to have a problem with is when I ask it to go find artwork from the iTunes store.
Do I need to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it? Did something go wrong with the process of authorizing the computer to work with the iTunes store? Do I need to de-authorize and then re-authorize the computer? Could this be something related to Windows permissions on the iTunes library?Right on about how to reset the warnings, it was exactly that.
I went through the steps to let iTunes through Windows Firewall, but still get the same problem when I access the iTunes store (and even though I followed the steps in the help file to the letter, I notice it still says iTunes is NOT enabled for it). And now, thanks to the re-enabled warnings, when I try to get it to download artwork for single albums, this is what I get:
"Artwork for [album name] could not be found. An unknown error occurred (-50)."
