MediaSource : Tagging of AC3 Fi

I have recently started to import AC3 Files (Dolby 5.) into Media Source and merged with my large MP3 collection. That works perfectly and you can mix stereo MP3 and 6-channel AC3 in Playlists etc.
It is even possible with Media Source to tag AC3 Files with Track/Artist/Album/Genre like MP3. But how is this possible because AC3 Files - to my knowledge - do not have a meta data field like ID3 in the file structure ?
If these tags are not stored in the file, where does MediaSource store Meta Data information for the individual music files ? I have checked the whole folder structure, I couldn't find anything, and the original AC3 files where not changed by Media Source
Thanks for any clue.
Bernd

Most likely it stores them in the PC Music Library, located in?C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER\Program Data\Creative\Media Database?Apparently it uses MS Jet DB engine.

  • MediaSource tagging / new file naming probl

I just started using MediaSource with a Nomad Jukebox Zen and I've run into a couple of problems:
) When I change a song's tag info (title, artist, etc) in my PC music database, and then click to Autosync my player, it adds the new song onto the player as a duplicate (the song with the old title is still on the player). This is a major pain as I have thousands of songs that I want to clean up the tag info, especially the assigned genre to make my player more to my liking. Any suggestions to do this and keep the tag info the same on both player and PC?
    2) When uploading new songs from the player to the PC, the software does not name the file correctly. I have the database properties to name the file "<artist> - <title>", but it names them all with only the tile. It does store the files in the proper folder, but does not name it correctly. Any thoughts?

Thanks SSR. I just checked out the NomadSync software and it looks like *almost* exactly what I need. Matching like songs and allowing you to update the ID3 tags is brilliant! The big downfall from what I see is that there isn't a way to define where to store and how to name new uploaded files from the player. MediaSource does this so maybe I'll use NomadSync to clean up everything else but not upload new songs, and then run AutoSync to upload the files and let MediaSource name them according to the database rules. That is, of course, if I can get it to work properly. I downloaded all of the latest drivers, plugins, and software before trying this. I'll double-check the version numbers, and if they are the latest, then perhaps I should drop a line to Creative software and let them know about the bug.

  • MediaSource & f

does mediasource player have plugin to play .flac file?

I have no problems playing .flac or .ogg files in Mediasource 5 (Audigy 2 soundcard; XP SP3).
Possibly because I have the flac and ogg decoders installed ? (they also play fine in WMP ).
    http://flac.sourceforge.net/
    http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/downloads.html
However, I cannot play .ac3 files (couldn't with mediasource3 either). I have tried regsvr32 ac3src.ax and regsvr32 AC3Srcu.ax (the two files that are in C:\Program Files\Creative\Shared Files that I assume are Creative's ac3 codecs. I can play them in WMP with AC3 filter.
    http://ac3filter.net/
but mediasource doesn't seem to be able to use that.
Any advice on getting mediasource to play ac3 files would be welcome. I assume it's supposed to since there is an ac3 sample file in the Creative software.

  • Creative Mediasource ID3 Tags - Edit more than one year at a ti

I use a 60gb Zen Xtra with Mediasource. I take pride in the ID3 tags of all my files especially those of my Jazz collection and my player is well organised. The only thing I have to ask is - is there any way of editing the year of, say, an entire album that was recorded in 959 for example all at the same time. It lets me do this for Artist, Album and Genre but not year. Is there any upgrade in software I can get or am I just missing something here?
Thanks in advance for your input,Matt

Shucks, I tried and you can't seem to do it. A curious oversight.
You can either use another copying program like which will let you do it, or simply get a mass tagger (but you will need to edit the tracks on the PC first, then copy). For some mass tagger recommendations look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Can't TAG Mp4 files with Dolby Digital AC3 5.1

Hi everyone, I use iTunes to TAG all my Mp3 and Mp4, I have over 100,000 Mp3 tagged with iTunes without no problem and over 2,000 DVDs concerts, TV series, etc in Mp4 format tagged also with iTunes without any problems, all my Mp4 til now have 2 channel stereo sound.
My problem now is that I'm making some Mp4 movies with dolby digital 5.1 and this Mp4 play perfect in iTunes and QuickTime ''but'' I can't TAG them in iTunes because of the AC3 5.1, I'm sure of this because everthing made in 2 channel stereo have no problem to TAG in iTunes. If I TAG them its seems in the begining to write the TAGs but if I clear iTunes and then re-load again the files the TAGs dissapears.
I use MAC and PC. I use Nero Recode 2 to make my Mp4. I have the last version of iTunes and QT.... I have noticed that Winamp can write the TAGs without any problems and stays there but what I need is to iTunes recognize that TAGs because I run all my libraries in iTunes
Thanks in advance, sorry for my english.

Anybody please, any answer can help me please... Is that no body has experience this same problem?
If iTunes can't support TAGs with 5.1 is possible to fix this in the next update?

  • Can MediaSource display MP3 file name instead of MP3 tag information? ; Playlist default locat

?I am using Creative MediaSource Player 5.0.38 as an MP3 player on my computer:?. Can we get MediaSource to display mp3 file names instead of mp3 tag information when file is being played as part of a Playlist???2. Playlists are stored in this location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Creative\Media Database\
or if not logged in as Administrator:
C:\Documents and Settings\[name of your account]\Application Data\Creative\Media Database\?Unlike with Creative PlayCenter, default location of Playlists cannot be changed in Windows registry.?Is there any?way to change Playlist default location?
??3. If Shuffle play mode is selected, MediaSource will still always play the first file on the Playlist? and only then switch to shuffle mode. I found a workaround for this because old PlayCenter 2 had this problem, is this a known bug that they still haven't fixed after all these years???Message Edited by c627627 on 04-6-200706:33 PM

    Hi,
I understand you want to place description of Content type as refiner in Search Refinement.
Without coding, you may considering adding a column for description and use this column as refiner.

  • Mediasource won't update ID3 tags!

"Mediasource won't update ID3 tags!? Please help! I have been using Mediasource 5 over the years to painstakingly get my mp3 library organized just the way I want it. I know that the Media Source track info is not necessarily the same as what's stored in the ID3 tag of the files themselves. I am trying to update the ID3 tags so that the info matches what is in Media Source. The good news is, I can right click on my database in CMS and there is an option to "Update Track Properties". Within this window are two options: one to update the ID3 tags to match MediaSource, and another to update MediaSource to match the ID3 tags.
So far so good, here's the problem. No matter which option you choose, it always does the latter of updating MediaSource to match the ID3 tags. ARGHH!! I've tried this over and over, trying both options, but no matter what I do, it's always copying in the wrong direction. That goodness I had backed up my database before doing it. I've tried both CMS 5.0.38 and the newer 5.20.23 but both have the same issue.
So is there any way to get Mediasource to take it's data and copy it over the ID3 tag data? Anyone know of a patch or other software that read the CMS database file and do this?

CD-TEXT only allows capable audio players (portable CD players, certain car stereo CD players, etc.) to scroll that information across its display as the track is playing.
For other people's iTunes to be able to retrieve the track listing, it has to be first uploaded into Gracenote's database, once Gracenote processes the information.

  • WTF??? MediaSource Deleted 2/3 of my tags

I just moved my entire collection (0,000+ mp3s) to my office computer and tried to import them into MediaSource. /3 or so worked perfectly...the other 2/3 got all the tags deleted except for song title. Thankfully I have 2 backups of my collection so I can fix it but does anyone know what happened?

I would still upgrade MediaSource to the latest version if it hasn't been already like Micromouse suggested. I know that it does fix many tag issues so there is no harm in doing that and it only takes a few minutes.
Let us know how it works out for you.
Also, I have used Tag and Rename for years to manage my ID3 tags:
    http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm
It has great options to do the tagging for you through Amazon and of course through FreeDB. It's not free but the software is very powerful and has made my life so much easier.Message Edited by mdscriber3 on 02-22-20060:22 PM

  • Mediasource - Re-tagged my entire library with Unkn

    Hey
I decided to add all my music to mediasource as i'm currently using iTunes. When it came to the ID3tag section. I selected the songs with tag information and selected "tag selected tracks using file path". I set it up correctly so that it would do it.
Following a long while, I came back to find that it had re-tagged my entire music library (about 6000 songs) with Unknown as the artist, Album and genre. Is there a way i can reverse this? Because i really don't want to go through re-tagging my music manually.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    James

Sorry to say, but the only way would be to re-tag all your songs. If the songs were tagged correctly in the fist place, you should have selected the "Use Existing Information" option. If they are tagged correctly just delete everything from your library and re-import them using the "Use Existing Information" option. If they aren't well, the only way is to re-tag them. I know, it is a daunting task especially if you have a lot of songs.Message Edited by FuturePilot on 2-09-200608:36 PM

  • ID3 tags won't upd

I have a Zen Micro and organise the downloads via WM0 because I find it easier to use than Creative's MediaSource software. This is generally fine but I've noticed that, even if I delete a track from the player, edit the tag info in WM0's Library feature and then download it again, the Zen Micro display often shows the old tag information. This is particularly annoying if I've sourced a track via a compilation (e.g. 'Sega Mega-Funk 2' or some such inanity) or if the artist is listed differently across two sources - e.g. 'Grandmaster Flash' and 'Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Fi've'. Has anyone got a solution to this problem?
    Thanks
    Joel

Strange. I can think of a couple of reasons why it might do this () the changes aren't being saved back into the file in the right way, so try a 3rd party tagging program instead of WMP0 and see if it works (2) the Zen's library is somehow remembering the data, but this seems very odd and I doubt it.

  • Creative Mediasource Organizer Losing Year T

I use Windows XP, Creative Mediasource Organizer version 3.30.35 and my player is a Zen MicroPhoto 8G. I have over 4000 MP3 files organized with id tags in Creative Mediasource Organizer. These are almost exclusivly?MP3 files that I recorded myself. Of the 4000 files?there are only a handful, just?one album that could possibly find tag information?to pull from the internet. Yesterday,?more than?200 of my mp3 files?had blank?year tags. I entered the correct year in several dozen of these so that only about 65 had blank year tags. Then I closed the software and turned of my computer. Today I opened Creative Mediasource Organizer to work on filling in those blank year tags. There were over 400 blank year tags today. What is happening? I have PC Music Library open. I select a single file, right click, click properties, click tag information, enter the year in the year field, click OK. Then I right click and select "update tag" click "yes" to confirm that I want the changes to apply to the file itself and not just to the PC Media Library. Please, someone help me understand why?the number of blank year tags is growing instead of shrinking? What can I do to retain the information I enter in these tags?

YESTERDAY:?Monday March 2, 2007:?I edited my media library from within Creative MediaSource so that there are no files without a valid year in the year tag. For?each MP3 file the other standard tags also contain meaningful data. These are?title, artist, album and?genre,?but not track. I don't see any practical way to use the track field for some of these files, so not all of them have a track number. The files I want in my media library are all the MP3 and WMA files within C:/MP3 and it's subfolders. The properties of C:/MP3 as viewed from "My Computer" are 3922 files and 249 folders. About a dozen are WMA files and one is a text file. All the others are MP3 files. The problem is that?there are quite a number of duplicate entries. And the Media Library is reporting several hundred more files within C:/MP3?than "My Computer" is reporting there.
I used "Tools/Settings/PC Media Library/ Delete invalid entries" but it did NOT remove the duplicate entries. Exiting the program and opening it again did not correct the count either. So I selected ALL the files, right clicked, and selected "update tags." I clicked YES to update the tag data from the media library to the files. When that operation was completed, I deleted all the files from the library but not from the computer. And?now I am?importing all the files within C:/MP3?back into the library. It says "now transferring 859 of 3920 files." This is good! 3920 is very close to 3922 minus the one text file. I want to see if, when this transfer is finished, I will have the correct number of MP3 files in my media library, and I want to see if the tag data, including the year data, remains?intact after this transfer. The transfer is complete. I do have 3920 files in my media library now and the data in the id tags appears to be intact. Hopefully, this will still be the case when I open the software tomorrow. THE NEXT DAY:?Tuesday, March 3, 2007: Grrr! I now have 3950 files in my media library where it should be only 3920. I did not add anything ?or make any edits. Exactly 30 of these entries?have blank year fields. I'm thinking that Creative MediaSource is NOT?loosing the data in year tags as I first thought, rather it's ADDING entries that are identical to existing entries except that the year fields in the added entries are empty. I think that if I enter the correct year data, I will end up with 30 entries that are truly exact duplicates. I don't see a pattern or clue to tell me why these 30 and not the others ... they have different artists, different albums, genres and the data in the missing year fields was not all the same. In the track fields, a few are blank, but most of them have data. "Tools/Settings/PC Music Library/Clean up now" did not elimiinate these 30 extra entries. Looking at the properties of C:/MP3 from "My Computer" still shows 3922 files (one is a text file) ... From my experiments yesterday, I am pretty sure that I can delete these 30 extra entries and be left with valid entries for all my files. This is frustrating. I'm hoping that these observations will be helpful to a programmer working on the next version of Creative MediaSource. I would send these comments directly to them, but they don't seem to provide a way for me to do that.

Creative MediaSource doesn't seem to update it's internal database from ID3 tags. For example I ripped a CD and MediaSource failed to get the year of the album. Does Mediasource ignore ID tag information accept to overwrite it's

Thanks, yes that worked. It's a nuisance that the updating doesn't occur automatically but it's much better than not working at all.

  • 'Creative Mediasource Organizer' Folders and the ZEN V pla

Using the Creative Mediasource Organizer, I've set up a few Folders on the 'Creative Zen V' player but when I undock the player and use it to find and play the songs, they're not organized by the Folders. In fact, I don't the folder 'structure' at all. Is there a way I can see and use my folder structure I've set up for the player? and, if not, then why does the Organizer enable me to set up folders? Thanks.

Folders on the device are merely for your own convenience and organization. The device relies solely on ID TAGS on how it plays and displays the various tracks. You will need to get your tracks in order and edit the tags.
