Meego is better than Windows Phone

I think Meego is better than Windows Phone from certain point of view,  at least the Name of Meego is nice than the Name of Windows Phone!

@Avenger_Osiris: As I have got the N9, I can already comment on that. I love the device. The buildquality is excellent, the screen is a pearl with vivid colours. The OS and UI is a new experience to me, but has so far been nothing but great. You adapt easily to how to navigate and the whole thing is so smooth.
There are of course lots of improvement needed, but I had no issues using it as my main device straight out of box. There are at least 2 updates coming as I know, and you also have the support from the community. It's a geeks device, but still easy enough for everyone to use.
Symbian is dying yes, but not as fast as we first thought. Even though the mess with Anna was a crazy mans circus, I still haven't heard anything saying that Nokia will stop the process with belle. Hopefully they will manage to get it out a bit quicker than with Anna.
I will comment on the lumia when I get it. That will also be a new experience to me - though I had a windows phone many years ago - motorola clam shell

  • Hp Aio Remote Beta for Windows Phone 8.1

    Having installed this app on a Lumia 520 to integrate with a 5520,  I find that documents in my phone's 'documents' folder are not apparent to the app, hence they cannot be printed. This applies equally to 'documents' folder both on the phone and sd card. Appears lots of users are having this issue, is there a fix please?

    I have an issue with Windows phone though, that's why I'm using Android. Have you checked this webpage yet? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c04387822&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...

  • Is windows 8.1 better than windows 7 for photoshop cc

    Which windows is better to use for photoshop cc , 8.1 or 7

    I made the transition from 7 to 8.1 about 6 months ago and can't say I've had any problems at all with PS CC.
    If you are upgrading then I would say go for it. Are you upgrading the spec of your machine as well or do you already have a good set-up?

  • Better than expected

    I'd read all the review and watched all the videos and thats what made me buy the IPhone even though I'd just upgraded my old phone on T-mobile to a Nokia 6300.
    One of the reasons for the change was that I do access the WWW, email etc and my last T-mobile bill was £120+ mostly made up of data transfer costs.
    With the 02 unlimited data download, the IPhone will pay for itself in a couple of months and I have to say I am extremely impressed so far even though I've only been activated a few days.
    I assumed there were bound to be some teething problems with such a jump in technology, but everything I have tried to do with the IPhone has worked and passed the test with flying colours.
    Kudos also to you guys on this forum for all your help. I've read quite a few of the posts and you do a great job in providing help where needed.

    You find it amazingly faster. Honestly, I just don't see it. It doesn't matter as I'm just I've gotten to on to what I really see as their architecture for future development and progress. I also gather their implementation of 64 bit is way better than Windows 7 for some reason.
    At this point in time, my computer is plenty fast with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Its just a couple of pieces of software that's the problem vexxing me and other users - Entourage 2008 and the problem with Apple's sync services (I see Apple implemented a diagnostics capability in Snow Leopard to assist with sync issues) and Intuit with Quicken still being stuck at 2007 and PowerPC. I had to install Rosetta for Quicken 2007 only and honestly from what I've seen of Intuit's Quicken beta, if the next beta (due in a couple weeks) isn't a major step in the right direction as they're going for release in Feb 2010 I might be with Quicken 2007 for quite a while. These two things are the unfortunate thing for me at the moment.

  • How to make backward compatibility of windows phone 8.1 app for windows phone 7?

    I developed windows phone 8.1 app which is in windows phone store. Now, i want to make this app compatible for windows 7 also. Is it possible, if yes then how?

    It may be that you are using non-backward compatible capabilities in your Windows Phone 8.1 app(s).
    Developers that want to develop for different OS's usually have platforms with the different OS's on them for developing applications so they work on each platform.
    I suppose you developed for Windows phone 8.1 rather than Windows phone 7. Therefore your app runs on a different framework than a Windows phone 7 has as well as probably newer hardware with greater capabilities.
    So you will probably need to purchase an older phone that came with Windows phone 7 in order to develop for. I couldn't find documentation like the last link below (App capabilities and hardware requirements for Windows Phone 8) for Windows phone 7
    from Microsoft but maybe you can.
    Windows Phone OS 7.1 - Developing a Windows Phone Application from Start to Finish
    Types of Applications
    The Windows Phone application platform provides two frameworks for developing applications:
    Silverlight
    The Silverlight framework supports event-driven, XAML-based application development.
    XNA
    The XNA Framework supports loop-based games.
    Silverlight and XNA can also be combined in a single application.
    The following table lists some of the criteria that you can use to determine whether you should use Silverlight or the XNA Framework for your Windows Phone application. With Windows Phone OS 7.1, you can combine Silverlight and XNA into one application.
    For more information about Silverlight and XNA, see
    The Silverlight and XNA Frameworks for Windows Phone. For more information about the application platform, see
    Application Platform Overview for Windows Phone.
    What's New in Windows Phone 8.1
    Platform convergence with Windows Store apps
    Windows Phone 8.1 introduces an important change in the Windows Phone developer ecosystem. In this release, Windows Phone converges with the Windows Store apps platform into a single developer platform that runs the same types of apps—Windows Runtime apps.
    Platform convergence began in Windows Phone 8, which supports a small subset of Windows Runtime APIs, but which differs from Windows in many core areas. In Windows Phone 8.1, there’s so much more in common—a much larger API set, a similar app model
    and life cycle, a shared toolset, a common UI framework—Windows Phone and Windows Store app developer platforms truly have become one, single development platform.
    Of course there are still some small differences in behavior and supported features between Windows Phone and Windows Store apps. Some of these are the result of timing of the different product cycles, and they may not appear in future releases. Some differences
    are the result of the different natures of phones and computers, their sizes, and the way people use them. We encourage developers to think in terms of Windows app development—developing for a single Windows Runtime, but targeting two different platforms on
    phones and computers.

  • Better Display Driver under Windows 8 than Windows 7 for MacBook Pro Retina?

    Anyone happen to know if the display support for a MacBook Pro Retina is better under Windows 8 than it is under Windows 7?
    Ideally, I would like to be able to run 2880x1800 at True Color as well as have the HDMI out fuction as a second display (maching the behaviour while booted under Max OS X 10.8).
    Under Windows 7, the highest resolution that supports True Color is 1600x1200.  This would be okay if that setting did not distort the picture (everything is slightly squeezed).  At 2880x1800, the highest color depth is High Color (16-bit) which is, well, not something one can actually use if doing graphics work.  On my 27" iMac, 2680x1600 supports True Color as expected.
    Also under Windows 7, the display connected via HDMI is not recognized.
    I've contected both Apple care support and Microsoft support about this, but Apple referred me to Microsoft and Microsoft referrred me back to Apple.
    Thanks,
    Warren
    P.S. Personally, I think it's rediculous to even attempt to do graphics work under Windows, but tell that to the Windwows based corporate world that I freelance in.

    Yes, there is a better display driver for the MacBook Pro Retina while running Windows 7 Pro.
    And, the answer is so obvious, that I feel a little silly having started this thread in the first place!
    The Windows 7 Professional NVIDIA drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M card need to be installed manually by downloading them from NVIDIA directly.
    If you need to do this on your MBPr Boot Camp volume, use this link:
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
    Then, set the pop-up menus based on your MBPr. [Mine were as follows: GeForce; GeForce 600M Series (Notbooks); GeForce GT 650M; Windows 7 64-bit: English (US)]
    What tipped me off to this is that the CUDA drivers need to be downloaded manually on the Mac OS X side to take full advantage of raytracing in Adobe After Effects CS6 and CC.  As soon as I started to run that installer it dawned on me, "Hey, you probably need to install the drivers on the Boot Camp side as well."  And sure enough after doing so, I am able select all of the expected resolutions as well as run 2880 x 1800 at Millions of Colors (32-bit).
    I guess I'm showing my nearly three decades worth of being a Mac user where I'm accustomed to having about everything needed included with the OS.

  • How can i prove rac on linux is better than on windows ?

    Hi all,
    Is there any document or any thread on this forum which will help me prove that RAC on linux is better than on windows. Actually i did not recommend to my management windows os for RAC, now the management wants the reason why did not recommend windows. I want some sort of proof or any document to prove my point. Please help ......

    > now the management wants the reason why did not recommend windows
    Then give them reasons. TCO. In-house experience and skills with Linux. Official support from vendors like Sun for Linux on their servers. Linux being used as the core development platform for Oracle. Linux proven as a cluster-based operating system - it leads the supercomputer/cluster market by a significant percentage.
    According to www.top500.org (listing the 500 fastest/biggest computers clusters on this planet)*:
    Operating System Family Top500
    Linux 85.20 %
    Mixed 6.80 %
    Unix      6.00 %
    Windows 1.20 %
    BSD Based 0.40 %
    Mac OS 0.40 %
    * (In other words, if Linux is good enough to run 85% of the world's fastest computers, it is more than good enough to run your company's RAC)
    There are numerous sound reasons for choosing Linux over Windows. But do not make performance claims that you cannot ever hope to backup with technical evidence.

    I would have had the phone looked at long before a month of problems.
    First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
    If that doesn't help Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. You phone is under warranty and someone at an Apple store can help you.

    From your point of view and the framing of your question, Apple does indeed support WIndows better than Mac for the limited issue of iCloud.
    chewy cabeza wrote:
    ...YET, Leopard and Snow Leopard are NOT iCloud compatible. How can that be justified? Obviously, Apple can make iCloud available to Snow Leopard, but disdains us...
    Historically speaking, Apple has rarely gone backwards in its OS development.  Once they have released a new OS with new technology, I can only think of one example of when they backtracked:  They released TrueType technology in System 7 and then released System 6.0.8, which included TrueType technology for continuing System 6 users.
    So it is part of their culture to move forward and not backwards.  Other examples:
    •  Inclusion of the then novel SONY 3.5" disk drive in its release of the first Macintosh (and not the industry standard 5.25" drive); after its use in the Lisa and adoption for the Apple II series of computers.
    •  Elimination of the floppy drive completely in the release of the first iMac.
    •  Use of then novel AAC audio compression as "state of the art" compression for the iPod release in 2001 instead of the outdated mp3 standard.
    •  Refusal to allow use of FLASH in iPod Touch/iPhone/iPads.
    How could they justify these decisions?  The marketplace justified them for Apple!
    So, yes, they could release 10.6.9 with iCloud support.  But why now, if not then?

    I have a $40 wireless phone... ge... 2.4ghz... that works in any room in my home.
    I have an $200 airport that doesn't work more than 10 feet away...
    What is the difference that makes one work so much better than the other?
    Are they completely differenct technologies, and if so, why wouldn't apple use the better one?
    Don't get me wrong, I love apple and I love the airport when I am in the same room with it, but just don't understand why it can't work through a wall.

  • Windows Phone Hub with more than 2 sections causes ArgumentException when collapsing any section

    Hi there,
    I'm working on a Universal app which is using a Hub control to display different sections.
    On startup, I want to hide some of the sections. Using a button, I want to toggle between the visible sections using a binding property on the Visibility property (Handled in the ViewModel). In my ViewModel I have 2 boolean properties that are bound to the
    corresponding sections and are converted to Visibility using a BooleanToVisibilityConverter
    <Hub>
    <HubSection>
    <DataTemplate>
    <Button Content="Test" Command="{Binding SwitchVisibilityCommand}"/>
    </DataTemplate>
    </HubSection>
    <HubSection x:Name="First" Header="Test1A" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.FirstVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    <HubSection x:Name="Second" Header="Test1B" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.SecondVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    <HubSection x:Name="Third" Header="Test2A" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.ThirdVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    <HubSection x:Name="Fourth" Header="Test2B" Visibility="{Binding ElementName=pageRoot,
    Path=DataContext.FourthVisibleProperty, Converter={StaticResource ResourceKey=BooleanToVisibilityConverter} }"/>
    </Hub>
    public class MainPageViewModel : ViewModel, IMainPageViewModel
    private bool firstVisibleProperty;
    private bool secondVisibleProperty;
    public MainPageViewModel()
    FirstVisibleProperty = true;
    SecondVisibleProperty = false;
    SwitchVisibilityCommand = new DelegateCommand(ExecuteCommand);
    private void ExecuteCommand()
    FirstVisibleProperty = !FirstVisibleProperty;
    SecondVisibleProperty = !SecondVisibleProperty;
    public bool FirstVisibleProperty
    get { return firstVisibleProperty; }
    set
    firstVisibleProperty = value;
    OnPropertyChanged(() => FirstVisibleProperty);
    public bool SecondVisibleProperty
    get { return secondVisibleProperty; }
    set
    secondVisibleProperty = value;
    OnPropertyChanged(() => SecondVisibleProperty);
    public DelegateCommand SwitchVisibilityCommand { get; set; }
    This setup is working fine on Windows, but in Windows Phone I get an unhandled exception (ArgumentException with the message ´Value does not fall within the expected range.´).
    When I reduce the amount of hubsections to two, one that is visible and one that is collapsed, everything is working fine again. When I use multiple sections that all use the the same visibility property no exception is thrown
    When I set both properties to true in the viewmodel, also no exception is thrown.
    I've also tried the following (Without succes):
    - change my boolean properties to Visibility properties
    - use different boolean properties for each of the sections
    I do not understand why this exception is thrown and the exception itself is to vague to give any useful information
    How can I resolve this error??

    I've uploaded my code to OneDrive. Use the following link to download the source:

  • How to disable webview cache for Windows Phone 8.1 Runtime universal app?

    Is it possible to disable cache for the Webview control for a Windows Phone 8.1 runtime universal app? My App seems to be remembering the information it received the first time. My app logs me into a service and when I go back to rerun app in the emulator
    (without completing shutting down the emulator) it logs me in automatically rather than giving me the prompt. This behavior is in the NavigationCompleted handler if that helps explain a bit more on where I am hitting this issue.
    If I were to shut off the emulator completely and then restart it then I am prompted for the login name and password again. I have gotten over this cache issue, when I was using the HttpClient in other part of my app, by sending the no-cache in the header
    as:
    client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Add("Cache-Control", "no-cache");
    Can I do something similar for the webview control?
    thanks
    mujno

    Hi mujno,
    As I know currently there is no programmatically way to clean cache for WebView, see Matt's blog:How to clear the WebView cache
    However if you are developing an enterprise app, you should be able to invoke some scripts to clean for you, see this for more information:Brokered

  • Submit: Great Skype for Windows Phone ideas

    We have just launched a new Windows Phone idea board to let you all share and exchange your ideas on how to improve and develop Skype for Windows Phone.
    Before you start sharing your ideas, here are some guidelines to help you get started:
    Idea Submission Guidelines
    Search before posting. Do a quick search and make sure you are not submitting a duplicate. If the idea already exists show your support by giving kudos to the original idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions.
    Draft your idea. Be as clear as possible, tell us what your idea is, how it would benefit users and why you think we should consider it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly another way. Please avoid text speak and keep the idea short and to the point. Ideas are available within a limited number of topic sections of the community as they are not discussion threads.
    Currently you can choose one of the following topic labels for your ideas:
    Video Messaging
    We‘ve just launched Video Messaging on Windows Phone so you can now send video messages to family and friends, even when they’re not online. Let us know what you think of Video Messaging on Windows Phone and any ideas you have for how we can make it better.
    Phone Integration
    Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Contacts
    How can we make it easier for you to find friends and family on Skype and add them as a contact? What are your thoughts on how contacts are managed on Skype for Windows Phone? Do you have any recommended improvements?
    Calling
    Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Instant Messaging
    Video calling is one of Skype’s most popular features. What do/don’t you like about Video calling on Skype for Windows Phone and do you have any ideas for how we can make video calling even better?
    Some things to include:
    Start with a clear title
    add appropriate label(s)
    list features and benefits
    Review the ideas of others. Look at other ideas to see what your fellow community members are requesting and feel free to exchange on them in the comments section. While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
    Add value. Vote for those items that you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudos. It's really a significant way to recognize someone's effort. We are using votes as a barometer to find out more about what our contributor community thinks is important, so we can factor this into our prioritization process.
    Submit a new idea. Adding an idea is just like posting a message on a board. To create an idea, click on the “New Idea” button, located on the left side of the page content tab, and in the left column under the actions heading click “create an idea”. Be sure to enter a clear title and description of your idea so others can decide how they would like to vote. Remember, the more complete your thought, the more likely it is to get noticed! You can use simple HTML, format the text, or add links or images. You can also preview your idea and check your spelling before you post the idea.
    Do not be discouraged. Sometimes what seems simple may not be so simple to build. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.
    Be respectful. Comply with the Community Guidelines and Skype etiquette.
    Disclaimer: Skype may or may not use your comments, ideas, or suggestions. Skype reserves the right to use for any purpose including commercial purposes, comments, ideas, suggestions, code, products or services (“Content”) that are posted on this community without any obligation to compensate the individual or entity that provided the Content. Frequently Asked Questions
    What is the Idea Board all about?
    Idea Board is a new part of the Skype Community, where members can share their ideas about existing products and services. Anyone in the community can see and vote on the ideas you post.
    We encourage you to give kudos and comment on submitted ideas as we are more likely to take the top kudoed and most discussed ones into consideration.
    How do I navigate the Ideas Board?
    Finding your way around the ideas board is a pretty straightforward task, here are some of the things you will see to help you get around.
    •  New Ideas – The most recent ideas.
    •  Hot Ideas – The most popular ideas right now.
    •  Top Ideas – The most kudoed ideas.
    The sidebar widgets
    In the sidebar you'll find more ways to sort the ideas board, see new and popular ideas and the top rated contributors to the idea board. It's also really easy to view only the ideas with certain status', for instance if you only want to see ideas that are “Accepted”.
    How to check if an idea exists already?
    Use the search function filtering by the ideas board – or click here (direct link to search function)
    What do the votes/kudos mean?
    Just as you can give kudos in the community boards and blogs, you can vote for ideas you like on the Idea Board. Ideas with high vote totals are more likely to be recognized and accepted by the teams at Skype who develop our products and services. You can also leave comments on ideas, but remember to be kind!
    What do the different idea statuses mean?
    We strive to review submitted ideas on a biweekly/monthly cycle. Each idea will go through a life cycle that will be assigned statuses at each milestone. The statuses are explained here:
    New Idea - Sparkly new idea, submitted by you, and ready to be vetted by the community.
    Comments Requested - Items set as Comments Requested will be open to the community for feedback and votes.
    Under consideration - Idea has been forwarded to appropriate business team who is determining feasibility.
    More information needed - More information is needed before our Product Management team can take this forward, please review the comments left by the team.
    Duplicate - Ideas in this status have already been submitted in some form or another. We will link these items over to the other idea so you can review the status or track the progress there.
    Already exists - This is available in the product.
    Future possibility - Idea is a good one but not something we can include in a near-term product or software release.
    Accepted - Idea has been accepted and has been taken forward for implementation, check back soon for updates.
    Not right now - We like the idea but just not for right now, we will revisit it in the future.
    Implemented - You asked for it, we did it!
    My idea has been accepted. How long will it take to be implemented?
    Sadly, we will not be able to provide dates for the implementation of any accepted ideas within the community due to the number of factors involved. Please be patient and let us make sure it is completely ready before we make it available.
    How will I know if an idea has been implemented?
    You can track the status of your ideas as your ideas are sent to the people here at Skype who can make them happen and you will see the status of your idea is updated. We will be telling you if the idea is something we are working on now or would like to do in the future, or if it’s something that is not feasible for us at this time. To ensure you don’t miss any updates select “Subscribe” from the “Idea Options” menu when viewing your idea.
    What ideas have been implemented so far?
    You can check "Accepted and Implemented ideas" topic here.
    Can I edit or delete my ideas comments?
    No, you can't. Be sure to check your spelling and preview your comment before you post it; you can't edit a comment once it's posted.
    Who and how often moderates/ manages the ideas board?
    The community team is monitoring the board on the daily basis and product managers will come in on a monthly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
    If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
    We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
    I have an idea to improve the Windows Phone software itself?
    Microsoft has set up a Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box for exactly that purpose. Share your idea here: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com
    If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
    No.

    I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include areTake a photoChoose from albumsSearch from webDeleteThat appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

    Parsing Out Data From Flat File With Inconsistent Delimiters in SQL Server
    Durval Ramos: "Very useful. Good job !"
    Ed Price: "Fantastic job on the code formatting, in-depth descriptions, and robust use of images!"
    AM: "Thanks for presenting multiple approaches to solve the problem. It would be good to see a second part describing the format file."
    DRC: "This is a good article which provides different ways to import the data to SQL, But this article needs some modifications. Suggestions: • It would be helpful, if mentioned on which version of SQL server and Visual studio scenario
    was tested • We might encounter errors while using the format files, for example we get the below error if the format file doesn’t have blank space (character ) at the end of each line Msg 4862, Level 16, State 1, Line 10 Cannot bulk load because the file
    "C:\temp\good.fmt" could not be read. Operating system error code (null). • So it will be helpful if you can provide a sample format file and TSQL script along with the possible output which can be tested and compared. • The sample query and the
    format file is not yielding the right output. Screenshots shown in the article has invalid values (for example ID coulmn has invalid values). Format file need to be fixed to get the right data. • The format file under section “Files With Text Qualifiers” is
    also invalid and the data is not imported properly. • Implementation of import using the SSIS package needs more details about how to make the delimiter consistent, Attaching a sample package would be helpful. "
