Mega 180, meedio and MCE compliant remote

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this forum.
I own a Mega 180, Windows XP Pro, Home Theater III installed. I'd like to use Meedio as a front end instead of Home Threater III. I also own a MCE RC6 remote.
The problem is that none of the remotes (MSI remote and MCE remote) cannot be used with the Meedio front end, simply do not work. Is there any way to put it all together to work? I've tried WinLirc with the Mega 180 configuration profile - no success, neither with the MSI remote not MCE remote. The goal is to use MCE remote only with Meedio front end on Mega 180. What software should I use and how to configure it? Any ideas?
Kiero

OK, I got my Mega 180 remote working with Girder. Now, how to make it work with Meedio? There is a Meedio program definition "Meedio Essentials.xml" file. I load it into Girder, but nothing happens. The Meedio plugin is not loaded into Girder memory in the settings tab (it is not present). Meedio Essentials.xml is only a configuration file, not a plugin...  Any help?

  • Mega 180 - AIW & XP MCE

OK... so MSI doesn't support MCE.... the built in video card sucks (but I knew that buying it), it doesn't have a large PSU.... and I want to use this as a HTPC... so I came up with an idea, and before I plop down the $$$ I wanted to see what you guys think, and any experience.
I'm thinking about upgrading the video to a ATi All-In-Wonder 9600 (Or maybe 9700), ditching XP/MCIII and going with XP Media Center Edition 2005.
What benefits would I lose by losing the remote that came with the 180? (Besides the FM/CD PC off features)
Would I lose any thing else? Gain anything??

Big Cheese - I have no experience with that card. I am using MCE 2005 with nothing but the onboard graphics for the Mega 180. I have an external USB HDTV tuner and am attaching to a plasma display using  full resolution 1080i. It works  just fine using the onboard graphics. I believe that TV even HDTV is not nearly as demanding as current games like Far Cry on graphics engines.
I think the Mega 180 makes a reasonable HTPC running MCE 2005. It is much more compleat than the MCIII application. It is tied tightly to the Media Player V10 for indexing avi's, mp3's, etc. It is quite stable... Hasn't hung up or rebooted on me yet.  It is tied to the internet everytime you turn around for things like movie information, cd covers, etc.  In general it is ALOT better than MCIII.
There are problems however.  I think the biggest one is the remote control. I have the Mega remote working to control MCE.  You have to install a tool called girder and spend alot of time customizing it. But I can now control MOST of the interefaces with the Mega remote. I'm still having trouble with  operating the controls on DVD title pages. The normal left right  up down mappings from the rest of MCE do not work. Also you can't get the Mega to power up or come out of standby with the remote.  A true MCE remote can do this if the Mobo supports the right options... I don't seem to see these options in the Mega 180 BIOS interface.
Another problem is how &^%%& secretive MS is. Since this is meant to be bought as a prebuilt system there is very little documentation or help on how to do anything. The MCE forums are quite snooty about general users building their own MCE's. However this is changing since MCE2005 is now available on ebay. Trying to figure out how to customize things is hard. For example adding  an internet radio station to their radio station list is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. It would be cool for instance to add the MSI standalone radio application to the MCE other programs list.... GOOD LUCK!
If you're into HDTV another problem is the do not copy bit. US OTA transmissions will start using this next year. MS is extremely into digital rights managment. They will honor this bit. So things like copying HDTV material to disk will **PROBABLY** not work with MCE. Also even though I have no protected material on my machine I have seen numerous error messages that say something like "You must be trying to copy protected material.   BLAH BLAH BLAH.... or maybe there is a hardware error."  This constant threat about DRM is very annoying.

I've performed the same problem.... and i'm trying to solve it definitively.
The TV out sometime gives color and sometime not.
I've checked the bios setting. I'll try now with "wrong" setting.
As i'll find a solution i'll post it.

  • Mega 180 - WLAN and modem drivers

    Hi all.
I have a corrupt cd for my Mega 180 and I'm desperately in need of the drivers for WLAN mini pci-card and modem. I've dl'ed drivers and software from MSI-site but XP Pro won't recognize these two...

Found the solution in another thread...

  • Mega 180 AGP and dead...

    Hi all,
just checking to see if someone has any clues what's up with my machine. I bought an ATI x800 PRO last night, and put it in my Mega 180. All of last night I was playing far cry  just fine with "high" settings. The temperature went up to around 75, but seemed to be ok, no problems. I went happily to bed.
This afternoon I decided to play at "very high" settings. After a while I got system message saying that the CPU was too hot and the machine was going to shut down. Getting this message stopped far cry and moved me back to the desktop. I saw that the temperature was already falling, so I didn't bother shutting down, just let it cool off for a while. I then tried running far cry on high  settings - like I did the night before - and again I got the heat warning. I searched the web for reasons, somewhere someone suggested updating the bios. I did using live update, no difference.
So now I went to the BIOS and checked if I could somehow set the fan to always be on max, if nothing else this should make the system heat up slower. Didn't find anything like it. I found a setting for USB-keyboard though, activated this.
At this point I realized I wouldn't be able to use my Mega180 with the card, so I took it out.
From then on I have been unable to get even to POST. When I turn the machine on the fans start going, the harddrive and cd-rom makes some spin-up noises but nothing happens on the screen. The screen doesn't even realize that it's on.
I have tried removing everything except the processor. I have tried reinserting the AGP card. I have tried with and without memory, harddrive, cdrom ... all with the same result, that is, nothing happens.
Tried resetting the CMOS both through the JBAT1 jumper and removing the battery.
Any ideas? I suspect something got messed up with the BIOS when I changed it, but if so, shouldn't resetting the CMOS fix it?
Most of all, does anyone have any ideas for more things I could try? Has  anyone else seen anything like this? Could it have anything to do with the "hot" warnings? (Although I would guess not, those message should show up a while before it gets too hot... )
    Thanks,
    Mattis

do you get display with the agp card in?
when you removed the agp card, did you unplug the power cord?
i don't know how much of this is true, but this is from a supposed PC technician. when the power cord is connected, standby power is going through the motherboard (true). apparently if you remove an agp card while standby power is present, it sort of screws up the agp port (including onboard, as it is shared).
if you leave the pc unpowered (remove power lead) for about 12 hours, it should work again.
please let me know if this works or not, so I can tell my pc technician buddy he is full of (or not, as the case may be)

  • Mega 180 CPU and memory

    Hi,
I am just beginning to assemble a MEGA 180, and I'd need some help regarding the components.
    1) I will NOT use on-board video, so using 400 MHz RAM modules will be fine. Am I right? Do I have to change any jumper settings or the default BIOS settings because of that?
    2) Can I use a 3200+ CPU with 333 MHz without any problems? The official MSI info is that 3000+ is the maximum, but there were some references that 3200+ also can be used, if it is the 333 MHz version. Is it right? Did MSI "officially" admit this?
    3) Unfortunately, 333 MHz version of 3200+ is very difficult to find, most retailers have only the 400 MHz version. What should I do to make my system work with this CPU? Need some jumper setting change, and some BISO  mods? What to do exactly? I'm not an experienced modder by far, so a detailed guide would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Coix

as far as i'm aware, the nforce2 chipset used in the mega 180 mobo only supports up to 333mhz FSB
yes, an XP3200+ would work but only if it was the FSB333 version, if you can't get hold of one then an XP3000+ would be just as good, there's only a couple of hundred mhz difference in speed anyway, which you wouldn't notice
and i would suggest sticking with DDR333 (PC2700) memory too, there's no point having faster memory if it unstables things, again the speed difference isn't visibly noticeable, make sure you buy two sticks of the same type and brand and run as dual channel for best performance - i recommend crucial, samsung or kingston, all have worked fine in msi boards i have used before

  • Mega 180 reboot and freezing...PSU failure??

I was browsing the internet, when my screen went black and the onboard speeker started beeping.
I couldn't restart the system without a BIOS reset. All my temps are normal.
After 5 minutes the screen went black again, but no beeping this time.
BIOS reset again, and then I've checked my voltages.By the BIOS my 3.3v is only 3.23v.
Under Windows the system monitor shows only 3.15-3.18 v.
When I turn on or turn off the computer theres is a ticking sound from the PSU(from the bottom of it),which wasn't there before.
If I start a game, the system just freezes.
    Is my PSU gone???
ps:I'm using the onboard graphics and sound etc.

to determine if the PSU is at fault, you can connect up a regular desktop ATX PSU. make sure the specs are the same or better.
disconnect all the power connectors from the Mega PSU, then connect the ATX PSU while it is still outside the case. note that while testing with another PSU that the LCD display won't work and you won't get any sound either.
you can run some tests for a while; if you don't get any freezing or restarts, then you know the PSU is at fault
HOWEVER, the mostly likely cause of problems in all the Megas is OVERHEATING. when PSUs get too hot, their power output can drop, causing instabilities. use a program such as Speedfan to monitor your CPU and system temps

  • Mega 180 Wireless And Xp Sp2!!! Help!!

Whenever I INSTALL a clean install of xp with SP2 integrated. Wireless drivers wont work. Not even when I try to add them manually!!
    Please HELP!
    [email protected]

I'm having the same problem with newly installed Mega and internal wireless. Wireless USB adapter works fine... Although I found using USB devices raises the temp. about 3-4 degrees. So I really want the internal one to work.
The problem I get is it cannot find my access point. I am using a netgear WGT624 set in 11b mode. Besides this computer I connect to this access point with a linksys pcmcia card and a lucent pcmcia card. Plus of course the Netgear wireless USB.
The driver I am using is dated M2400.sys dated 12/05/03 although the date that shows up under xp driver props is version 1.12 dated 10/8/03.  I can't find a newer driver. The download page for the Mega180 has an older dated version although the contents are the same. I've installed and removed the driver several times. I've tried with and without  MS wireless service running.  Nothing changes. When I scan for access points it finds an extremely weak unshielded linksys that must be coming from a neighbor. But it is too weak (also varies in and out) to maintain a signal. So I believe the antenna is working...
I suspect some imcompatibilty between the mini PCI wireless and my router.
    Any ideas ?

  • Remote (again) on Mega 180

    Hi,
Got my Mega 180 together and it seems to work OK, BUT the remote doesn't work. Does it require the TV card since the motherboard manual doesn't seem to indicate a connectyor for IR in. I don't have the MSI TV card in my configuration.
Does anyone have a clue where to start debugging (Yes, I changed the remote battery...)
    Regards,
    Matti

The remote should work in HiFi mode as a barebone machine, i.e. with no CPU, RAM, TV Card etc. If this does not work, then suspect a hardware fault, or battery problem.  You can do this with the full installation, but just switch on into HiFi mode.
If this works then try the PC mode. I believe that the TV Tuner card is needed for the remote to work in PC mode, but I haven't tried it without. You meed to install Media Center Deluxe III to make use of the remote in PC mode.
I have found the Media Center Deluxe III not very good, and hence have switched to ShowShifter (which requires more money to be spent). This does not work with the remote straight out of the box. I believe you need third party software like Girder. Does anyone have experience on installing and configuring Girder, I've still to start?
DON'T RUN THE "GREETING" APPLICATION OFF THE TUNER CARD CD, IT WILL TRASH YUOR LCD.

  • Mega 180 Replacement Remote Control

    Can anyone help please!
I have a great Mega 180 but have trashed the Remote Control.  Can anyone suggest where I can get a replacement?  Please do not say MSI because the UK branch is as useless as a chocolate fireguard telling me to look on "where to buy"  Trouble is no-one stocks it anymore.  You would think MSI kept spares for their loyal customers ???

To Bernhard and Hery (MSI Forum Moderators)
I expect you will simply remove this post!  But at the very least have the common decency to reply to me either in the forum or to my email address.  Failing that have the guts to give me you email addresses so I san politely write to you direct!
Lets get a few thing right guys!!....
    1)  I have NOT used rude or offensive language on this forum  If you are unable solve the most basic of puzzles, I will even give you guys the answers...     a)   .... you  means    Fink you.
                                                          b) taking the .... means   taking the Pads.  Could the "Moderators of this forum please tell me how these 2 sayings are offensive?
    2)  If you or anyone bought a brand new car, OK after 7 years you may not expect full manufacurers support but at least you would expect to be able to get spare parts for it!!  To be told by the manufacturer... sorry go away we dont want to know this product and fink you is simply unacceptable.  It would just, but only just be OK if they went out of business, but they are a currently trading company.  Even now you can get new parts for a Delorean!
I thought the whole idea of a so called Forum was to be able to express your views and concerns.  Clearly not on the MSI Forum.  G
Again I ask HOW WOULD THE MODERATORS FEEL?  Or are you paid by MSI

  • MEGA 180 Remote/LCD API

    Hi,
I've just built a new MEGA 180 system, and while I like the hardware, I'm less than enthusiastic about the software. Frankly, Media Centre III stinks!
For one thing, I'd like to be able to use the MEGA 180 for MP3 playback without having to turn on the monitor (which is a projector in my case, that takes more than a minute to start up).
The first step would be to program the remote and the LCD display so that you can use whatever MP3 player you want, in my case I would write a WinAmp / MediaMonkey plugin.
For that I need some way to access these devices. I found some dlls and a WinIRX.ocr on the CD but I have no idea how to use them. Is there any API description I can use? Even a simple .h and .lib file for the dlls would suffice for me.
If you've heard anything about such a description, please let me know. Or maybe the adress of somebody at MSI I could contact to get it?
    Thanks!
    Martin.

I've been looking into the dll's as well; there are a few that looks promising. They can't be referenced from Visual Basic though  , so someone with more insight into C++ should have a go at them. PC Alert 4 also installs it's own dll's for writing sys- and cpu temp to the LCM, so there is plenty to choose from. Can't help out with any API descriptions though...
We should keep in mind however that the 180 and 865 are new products for MSI, and not only are they occupied with fixing the numerous problems users have reported, but they will probably try to develop other applications that take advantage of the remote and LCM. From what we've seen so far that is obviosly something they should leave to other, more suited, developers!
I too think that MSI would benefit from releasing a SDK, thus increasing the overall useability of the Mega, thus attracting more users. Leave it to the endusers to decide which mediaplayer/s we want to use.
For the moment I'm putting my hope to a Girder-plugin for the remote, since that seems the most plausible solution right now.

  • Mega 180 components?

hi, im going to order the msi mega 180 tomorrow and im just a bit confused as to what components might be best for it..
so far, im looking at these components:
CPU: 2800xp+ - now a few questions about this...the mega180 only supports up to 3000xp .. now, so will i be able to overclock the 2800 up to 3000 ... if not, should i get the 3000? will there be much of a difference?
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB 8MB IDE ATA/100 8MB cache 7200RPM   - that's the hard drive im looking about getting. its big and, from reviews, seems to be fairly silent - but should i go for a s-ata? does the mega support s-ata? what does it mean.. is it faster/quieter?
DVD Burner: MSI DVD-burner IDE DR4-A, Retail DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW - im getting this for 66quid so it seems to be the one for me.. any known issues i should be worried about?
Memory: TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 Memory184-P (for DDR-PC400MHz) - thats what im looking at atm.. its 56quid. i really dont know much when it comes to memory. i think the mega180 supports dual channel, does this mean that id be better to get 2x256mb sticks?
im going to stick with the onboard gfx (is it the gf4 mx4000?) for the time being.. until the 9800pro comes down in price... and the onboard sound should be grand.
so, is the above the best set-up for me, or should i change it around?
    regards,
    nick

No just updated the audiopart with the drivers from http://www.techconnect.ws
And for Video the latest Nvidia Graphic drivers(trough setup)
Leave those IDE drivers alone, tried that but your system will boot very slowly afterwards

It`s the TV@nywhere Master i`m using and the system is using the Mega 180 intern radio
I think the wire plug doesn`t have to go anywhere. think it`s optional there for other compatible mainboards

  • Where is a Mega 180 working fine with all?

I like to know if someone has try a Mega PC 180 in all of his function without problem.
    I've still this problem:
the TV Tuner MS8606-040 find only one channel with the Mega 180 software but it find all avaible with the InterVideo.
I've also try to connect it to a TV: i've lost the monitor and to rescue it i've need to remove and reinstalled video driver.....
The remote work only with the Mega 180 software: the ATI AIW Remote work with everything (as a mouse).
Now it start to become a little bit warm... 50° degrees.
    So here is actual situation:
    LAN: working fine
    WLan: working fine
    Hdd: working fine
    Cd-R: working fine
Video: working fine only with monitor - problem using TV
    Modem: working fine
TV Tuner: only one channel avaible.....
Remote: work only with Mega 180 software
CPU: a little bit warm then usual
    Reboot: sometimes don't
I was thinking about a Mega 865: now i think it can wait.
So i ask: does exist a Mega PC 180 with MS8606-040 working fine?

    Hi AtHoSsIcO,
I use the 8606-40 Tuner card, and have had no problem tuning the channels in software. Mind you I'm on the NTSC system, and that might have bearing.
I did find that the procedure in building the system is important, what software you use, and versions, etc.
    For my build, I partitioned my HDD into 10Gb Boot [NTFS] C:, 10Gb Recovery[FAT32]D:, 100Gb Data[NTFS]E:.
I then installed XP Pro, and made an image on D: with PQ Drive Image, called it XPRAW.PQI, then I added the software on CD from the MEGA180, [do not use the 8606 CD], rebooting after each driver install.
I made another image XP0001.pqi, then proceeded to connect to Windows update site, installed all suggested Critical Updates & Service Packs,  and Driver Updates, not the general windows stuff.
Made another image, XP0002.pqi, then ran MSI's Live Update software, and paid particular attention to the versions of software available, so as not to roll back to a previous version.
    Made another image, XP0003.pqi.
Now I ran the software to check operation, LED display working fine, AM/FM radio tuning, and memory storage fine.
Ran the Auto Tune in TV mode, and selected all my availble channels.
At this point everything seemed to be working well.
Then I tried the PVR, and had a issue with it shutting itself off.
I have yet to resolve this as the time is not available at the moment.
With the images I have created, I can step back in time, to various installs of software to troubleshoot, and resolve any problems.
But everything else works great, including the IR remote in HIFI and PC mode!
Quite pleased with the overall look, performance, temperature, etc.
If your looking for a viable substitute to MCIII, look at the http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de forums for the port to PC. It looks very promising! [still in beta mode/design]
    I would buy another one.......

  • Choppy Video on MEGA 180

    Hi all,
I'm suffering from choppy video playback on my MEGA 180. By choopy I mean every ten seconds or so it will freeze up for a split second, the audio stays in sync, but you can slightly tell that the video stops, or skips.
This happens when watching .avi, DivX or even commercial DVD's. It also happens on my screen saver.
Since I was using the onboard video I thought I'd try using a video card but the same thing.
What I can't figure out is what the onboard video and a seperate video card have in common, since it's happening to both.
My onboard video has the latest drivers, and the PC as a whole is up to date.
    Any suggestions are greatly needed.
    Thanks.

can you give more information on the hardware you have installed in your Mega 180?
and can you give more background information; ie how long have you had this system, has it ever worked correctly, did the problem start after you installed any particular software, etc etc...

  • MSI Mega 180 problems

Hello all, i'm quite stuck on something and need some help.
I have recently purchased an MSI Mega 180 deluxe and installed an pioneer a07 dvd writer in there, for some reason it won't let me burn cd's in audio cd format from wav files, which i need for my music studio.
Also i constructed an external case to put an internet pioneer a03 dvd writer and did the same process and believe it or not i was able to burn a audio cd, so not sure what the problem is, could the msi mega 180 dislike my newer model of pioneer, or is the pioneer on it's way out, which i find strange as it's newer and quite new.
I use nero to burn most of my cd's or dvd's which had no problem with when the dvd writer was on another desktop, it seems to get up to 26% and just freezes there, which the buffer level not moving at all.
    Hope someone can help, thanks

Sounds like all of your drivers are not up to date....
Here's what M$ has to say about it (shamelessly copied and pasted from another different website/board post).
    Stop 0x000000D1 or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
The Stop 0xD1 message indicates that the system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. Drivers that have used improper addresses typically cause this error.
    Interpreting the Message
This Stop message has four parameters:
    Memory referenced.
    IRQL at time of reference.
Type of access (0x00000000 = read operation, 0x00000001 = write operation).
    Address that referenced memory.
    Resolving the Problem
For additional troubleshooting suggestions that apply to all Stop errors, see "Stop Message Checklist" later in this appendix.
Stop 0xD1 messages can occur after installing faulty drivers or system services. If a driver is listed by name, disable, remove, or roll back that driver to confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.
For more information about Stop 0xD1 messages, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base link on the Web Resources page at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/reskits/webresources. Search using keywords winnt, 0x000000D1, and 0xD1.
    Update Drivers
Updated and comaptiable drivers are very important when running XP. Check your hardware with the HCL http://www.microsoft.com/hcl  If you hardware is not on the list it does not mean it won't work it just means it hasn't been tested by Microsoft and they won't Guarantee it to be compatible. If it not on the list check the manufacturer's website fo an up to date XP driver, if they don't have one you may be out of luck. This goes for motherboards and the bios too.
