Mega 180 TV Card---the straight scoop...

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what TV card and what TV card drivers work well in the Mega 180.
After a whole bunch of trial and error----here's what seems to be the scoop. the dope, the real deal----to the best of my knowledge.....
---there is a mixup with TV Tuner Cards----two versions of the 8606 card
8606-10---Regular card----with an FM tuner---not really made for the MEGA----and....
8606-40 MEGA TV card----without the tuner (cuz your Mega already has one) and made especially for the MEGA
Further confusion:
If you have a Mega 180------ONLY use the TV Tuner drivers on the Mega 180 Install disk----NOT the regular drivers that are included with the MEGA TV card as this card will also work on the older Mega 651's and those drivers are basically for it.
In other words---DON'T use the Win Cinema Install disk that comes with the Mega TV Card if you have the Mega 180...
AND---guess what----those TV card drivers on the Mega 180 install disk only become visible in the main install menu when you have the card installed----they don't automatically appear so you know you need to use THOSE drivers vice the ones included with the card.
AND---the drivers only seem to work in conjunction with Media Center III!
It would be nice if MSI put out a little help sheet with some of this info....
Help----and a good manual-----what a concept......

It's installed to C: with the card readers on E: and F:   Also, not only is the intervideo software not working but also Media Center III.  If I can get Media Center III stable I'd be satisfied.
I've also tried removing the Radeon 9200SE but that didn't resolve the problem.  Next I suppose I'll try some other capture/viewing software to see if it runs stable.  Thanks for the help so far.

  • MEGA 180 Wireless Card Cannot Run - No Resources

Well, I FINALLY got the MEGA 180 to recognize the built-in wireless card, but the card will not run becuase the system is telling me that there are no available resources for the card... huh?
Does anyone know what this means and how I can get my built-in wireless working?  I currently have an external USB wireless adapter working, but I'd really like to remove it and try the built-in one.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Nice little update to report.
When I had my MEGA 180 open to lap the heatsink and reapply the Arctic Silver, I decided to check the Mini-PCI card to make sure everything was ok.  Sure enough, it was not fully seated in the socket.  This would explain why my wireless card would never work.
I pushed it in firmly, and when the system started back up, voila!  I had built-in wireless.
Horrible quality control out of MSI to let a system go from the factory like this, but I'm glad it was something small.

  • MSI MEGA 180 Deluxe - Card Reader

Does anyone have any advice on getting the card reader to work?
It was working untill I installed all the software from the install disk. Then I rebooted and it had stopped working.
I have since done a complete fresh install, but still have the same problem.
Not really conversant with BIOS settings, so don't know what they should be.
Have installed all updates for the Mega 180 from MSI website, and also have ALL updates from microsoft. (All 110MB !!!!! Thanks god for broadband!!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to bios, and check in Itegrated Pripherals->Onboard Devices->OnChip USB.
This must be enabled. I have there V1.1+V2.0, and cardreader is working.
I was disabled this, when i installed WinXP, because cardreader start from drive C: and my HDD was like drive F:. So I disabled it, installed WinXP, and then enabled OnChip USB. Now i have A: (virtual drive) C: (Hard Drive) E: (DVD/CD-RW) F: and G: (CardReader).

  • MEGA 180 - Video Card Added

I've tried adding a Radeon 8500 video card to a Mega 180 system and when I add it, the system doesn't even POST, nothing.  I know the card works.
If you have successfuly installed a video card into a Mega 180 please let me know exactly what you did.  The manual seems to state that you simply install it and, of course, plug the monitor into the card.  But no dice with this Mega 180.  There is no place in BIOS to disable the onboard video either.
    Help!!!

Actually, not for me.  For a customer who requested this barebones speciifically.  You're correct, the machine has been a NIGHTMARE.  In fact, I had to RMA the first box I had.  I built it,  installed the software and proceeded to let it run for a few days before I delivered it.  Well, the USB bus just up and died during this burn in period.  It totally disapeared from Device Manager and no voltage was present at any of the USB ports.
It cost me $35 to send it back to MSI and it took 6 weeks for me to get a new box from them.  Now this box has fried a few sticks of RAM on me and I'm having this $*&% driver issue and the system locks up and won't boot if I install a video card.
UPDATE: Today I tried a brand new Radeon 9600, no dice.  Even after I blasted the AGP slot with compressed air.  The machine won't even POST.  I'm starting to think that the driver issue and the machine's inability to accept a video card are the same problem - the motherboard's video subsystem may have failed.
I build computers for a business and I've built a few hundred machines over the years.  Generally, I only use Asus boards, AMD CPUs (love the A7N8X-E Deluxe, Geil RAM, and I prefer Radeon based graphics cards but I will use an nVidia card if need be). If I'm building an ultra cheap box for someone, I'll load the free OS, Knoppix, on it.

  • Need the straight scoop on Cloud upgrades vs. standalone upgrades

So much Adobe hype about Cloud vs. standalone - nothing is clear on their site.
I currently own CS5 Design Premium.
Would like to upgrade to CS6 at some point.
Cloud: What is the monthly upgrade price to replace what I have? Adobe has rebranded products, so not sure of equivilent.
DVD: what is upgrade price for the usual boxed set?
Cloud: Do I get one install on desktop and laptop for one subscription price with Cloud that I do with DVD?
DVD: Did Adobe change the policy of allowing you a desktop and laptop install?
I usually get at least 3 years from an Adobe upgrade. Printers and large companies keep older versions for much longer than single license users because of cost so I still have large companies on 4. From this standpoint, Cloud will cost me a lot over the time of my use and render it difficult to interface, more so with products like Indesign, that require IDML conversions to go back. Packaging projects in AI could be a nightmare of having to keep backward compatible saves.
Having old install disks means that I will always be able to access archived files on at least some computer for many years.
How will Cloud products deal with this?
Cloud products are priced for the year, but can go up at any time after that. Creative Cloud only guarantees $360 (Current owners - new customers will pay $600) really for the first year for existing customers. 3 years at $360 is $1080 - more than $400 more than what I paid for CS5.
Love to hear some straight talk on this topic. I beta tested Edge and liked it, but not enough to subscribe. I want to pay one price with a certain amount of time for upgrades, but still have a functional product down the line that I own.
Same problem with all Cloud products.
    Thanks!

    Incorrect on that first point.
But, it will be the last version you can upgrade to from more than one version back and even that will end on 12/31. Beginning January 1, anyone on CS4 and earlier is out of the upgrade loop.
When CS7 ships only CS6 license holders will have upgrade pricing.
Another point which you alluded to is about losing backward compatibility. For Creative Cloud users, when CS7 ships they will have access to it to download at their discretion. CS6 will be maintained and when CS7 is downloaded and installed it will have no effect at all on the ability to use CS6.
Finally, you are trying to compare this a suite which a very limited subset of Creative Cloud offerings. Creative Cloud includes the entire Master Collection, a Typekit subscription, Muse, Edge, and unlimited DPS SE apps. One DPS SE app is $395. Creative Cloud is no brainer to me but it’s your money and your decision to make.
I just hope this all a bit clearer for you so you make the right decision for you.

  • Mega 180 Deluxe Card Reader

    o_0Hi
I've a problem with my card reader, I can only use the CF Reader, the other one is bad. I've 2 drives E/F. When i installed XP, I enabled USB in the BIOS, was it right to do that?
Do you have any problem's with your's card reader's?
    PS: The cards are OK....

no problems with memory stick card.i also have to new drives-it has to be like that
no special drivers needed (win xp included).optimized for "ejection" (not performance).
Maybe it's a technic problem .check all connections.
p.s. memory stick card has to be quite deep into the reader

  • Who uses his Mega 180 to record TV programs

    Hello there,
I just placed my order for the Mega 180.
One feature that interesses me is the recording capabilities in combination with the MSI TV card.
I read somewhere that you can program the mega 180 to start recording a TV program.
Another feature that interesses me is... can you for example browse images/picture with only connected to a TV screen and not a computer monitor?
    Thx,
    Koen

    Hi Koen,
I too have just ordered the MEGA 180, and received the base unit. According to the users manual the MSI media software will allow you to record TV programs, with the optional TV tuner, time shift, ie buffer record for quick review, and also set scheduled events for recording. Goto the msi.com.tw website and download the manual while you are waiting, and do some interesting reading. I hope to use the unit as a PVR [personal video recorder] just like the new Panasonic Digital Video Recorders can do.
As far as the viewing of pictures, the manual on the Media Software indicates that this is possible using the Full Screen option [ viewable from across the room] to play a slide show [with/out music] play media files, even possibly stream them to another workstation. Proof is in the pudding!
If only 1/2 of the claims work out, I'll be happy.....
    Regards.....

  • Mega 180 beeps, no POST

Ok I guess I need to sit down and tell you the whole story. I have a Mega 180 system that worked fine for two months (heck the best system I ever had) I decided to put the all in wander graphics card in to the system. I was going to the AGP slot of the motherboard of the mega 180. I went to the bios and saw something about high performance and about the AGP 8X knowing that my graphics card is for the 8X I decided to hit that save the Bios and shut down the system to put in the AGP card. After installing the card I started up my system and I got nothing to the screen, then the Mega made beep ever 3 secs. I shutdown the system by pulling the power plug. Waited 10-15 sec and tried it again, still no screen and the beeps. I pulled the plug again and uninstalled the graphics card. I again started the Mega up and switch the monitor hookups back to the built in graphs card. Still no screen and the beeps. My next guess was it had something to do with the Bios. I did the whole jumper thing and still got the no screen and the beeps. I even pulled out the battery and unplugged the power supply to the motherboard and waited 24 hours. Hooked back up everything installed the battery and powered up the system. And got no screen and the beeps.  Ok maybe it is something elese so my sister having the same Mega as I do a 180(and thanks again sis for you help and the trust to use you mega as a test base) I pulled every thing out of my mega 180 and installed it in her’s. I put in the Memory, processor, hard drive, DVD-ROM. It worked with out a flaw it was just like before. I even tested the graphics card with out going to the bios (real trust from my sis or did I not say this is what messed up mine oh well) and the graphics card worked fine. So after another time spent I put back together my mega 180 (with out the graphics card in the AGP slot) and still got the no screen and the beeps. I then tested what the on line forms asked. I tried to put in other graphics cards in the other slot to see if it was looking there for a card, no luck. Then I took the hold thing down to BEST BUY (they have helped out before good Guys there)  and they spent all day messing around trying to clear the bios and trying different memory and different graphic cards and no luck. They said to call in the warranty and see what MSI will do. (They did not charge me a thing for their time, and many of them I know want one now too even with this mess up I think this is the best thing out there in the world of pcs)
Ok so that bring us here and I thought to give you guys here a try be for I go ask MSI
Again thanks to all that help, I wish I could do more then say thank you.
Heck one more thing I would have done the redo of the flash the bios thing with the new file but the mega 180 does not have a floppy drive so no A drive.

Thanks for splitting this from the other topic to avoid any confusion.
I did use a can of air when I rebuilt my mega 180 after I tested all the parts in my sister Mega 180. And best buy looked over every thing and did not see any thing wrong.   (four eyes always are better then mine) At this point I’m out of ideas thanks again for all you help guys.   I guess I’ll send an email to MSI today and see what they say. (in a year or two I’ll hear something)   I thought it would be fair to start here before going to MSI. In all, I hope this is truly a rear thing that happens to mega 180's   for I still say this the best case to get. I love this case and I got two of my friends to buy one and my sister has one. We all love our Mega's a lot.   (Heating can be fixed with a little work ok) And the radio rocks and the looks cant be beat. I will keep you all updated and again if you all have any ideas please post them here you never know one day this might happen to you.

  • Mega 180 DVD problem

    Dear all,
I know the problem with optical drives has been discussed many times, the NEC ND-2500A is supposed to work (somewhat).
With me it has been working almost ok for some time but now it shows the typical behaviour that many had to complain about with their drives:
    - system hangs when change disc, need reboot
    - eject button stops working
Sometimes,  when I am lucky, I reboot and I manage to acess a CD or DVD, but I can never eject, if I do by opening the lid and pressing the drive button and try any other disc, it will hang.
I thought perhaps this was due to something I had installed, but no, I have two OS loaded, I checked with both and I get the same behaviour. I don't think it has to do with the drive itself, did not flash it and did not record anything recently. Autoplay is disabled. I reinstalled the original drivers that came with the PC, nothing.
    WHY?
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks in advance.

    > What do you mean by "somewhat", did you have the eject problems from the beginning?
    Jadi,
The eject button of the Mega sometimes stopped working but I could simply eject by pushing the button on the drive. Reading the discs was not a problem.
    > Have you tried to unplug the powercord? This will cause the Bluebird controller to reset itself. I can imagine that the BB controller software is not fully compatible with the NEC 2500 although it worked from the beginning.
Actually yes,  I had to unplug a few times to open the box and check if every connection was OK, I booted without the drive and than agin with it to see if anything would change, no result, still hanging.
    ANYONE HAS AN IDEA???
    WHY DOESN'T IT WORK ANYMORE?
    > Something else, how does your MEGA 180 perform with the 30" (!!) LCD screen?
Excellent so far, especially with DVDs (now nix) but it depends how you want to use it, knowing that picture artefacts become more visible with larger sizes.
I am using the MegaPC as a Multimedia center in the living room for everything (including DVD and Divx playback, Sat receiver and Hard Disk recorder, MP3 jukebox, streaming radio)  but the instability of the Mega forced me to keep the standard CE equipment around for back-up.
Dark scenes are a bit the weakspot for LCD vs plasma because of backlight, but brightness is better, and for the rest is great.
Another problem in my setting is deinterlacing with TV content from satellite. I use the Moonlight's Elecard SW decoder. With high motion sequences especially (eg sport) the performance is poor. I am not sure if a good AGP video card would bring about any improvement, I guess is a SW issue still (performance limit?). I tried the ATI AIW 9800 in the past, graphics looked nice, but the TV was not satisfactory, so I use the RF tuner of of the 30"LCD at the moment.
If you consider buying a widescreen display to use with a HTPC, the 300WN5QS is great, it is a monitor with TV fiunction, so has all the setting features you'd expect from a high-end monitor, not the crappy CE settings you find on TV sets.
(I don't mean to do any advertisement here, but if you are interested in specs you can check: http://www.lcddiscount.nl/LCDDiscount.html?url=/Philips-300WN5QS-Zilver-details-thuisbioscoop.html )

  • Mega 180 problems - definitive list.

Folks - I thought it might be worth starting a single thread for capturing all the problems being experienced with the Mega 180.
At the moment, I'm experiencing the following:
The remote control isn't working for anything other than volume in PC mode.
In Hi-Fi mode, CD audio is distorted.
My TV card has stopped picking up TV channels (it worked initially but has since stopped).
Media Center crashes whenever I select the music item.
Media Center crashes whenever I attempt to do a picture slide show.
I get no sound output from Media Center applications (Windows Media Player is working fine).
I'm not able to get any FM reception from the radio (AM seems OK, frequencies are set correctly for my region - Europe).
From reading through various postings, it seem other people are having the following additional problems:
CD / DVD eject isn't working.
USB keyboard and mouse aren't working (I'm using a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse through USB without problems).
If anyone's had other problems or has any resolutions to these, post away.
    Regards,
    Grum.

    Following up yesterday's discussions,
I tried re-installing WinPVR last night. The version I got on the InterVideo CD bundled with the TV card just doesn't install. So I then downloaded the 15-day trial of the latest version from Intervideo's website. This at least installedl. However whilst trying to tune in TV channels (with very little success), it repeatedly came up with a message informing me the trial period had expired and chucked me out. I wasn't prepared to pay for something I've supposedly already bought and doesn't appear to work.
I've now given up on WinPVR.
I then downloaded and installed ShowShifter. It seems to be pretty good. I've got TV tuned in and my music and picture libraries set up. I've had some issues with sound -  on TV channels I get a couple of minutes of sound then it dissapears. I suspect this is down to different applications modifying the sound settings. I'll investigate further - there's a couple of postings on the ShowShifter message board about this.
Otherwise it seems pretty good - I should be able to get the remote working with it, possibly through girder. And the EPG support is good. If you've software development skills its pretty expandable and the message board is full of postings from the development team. Most importantly, it HASN'T CRASHED yet. I've un-installed Media Center for just now.
Some of the problems I reported yesterday, I managed to resolve last night.
I couldn't pick up TV channels because I had changed my input from 'Cable' to 'Antenna'. Although I am using an antenna, the card is only picking up signals on the 'Cable' setting.
My sound output problems were down to the relevant channels being muted. A quick play about in Soundstorm sorted everything out - doh!
I'll post further experiences with ShowShifter if anyone's interested.
    Cheers,
    Grum.

  • Front Panel LEDs problems for Mega 180

Hi, it's rigth one year I got a Mega 180, and I've not ended yet to tune and optimize it
    I admit it's like a hobby now
I immediately ask you for my LEDs problems.
I have read many topics and maybe other people have the same my problem, also if I'm not sure if they treat about the Front Panel LEDs when they speak about the "LCD Display".
I have some switched off LEDs in my front panel, in the "time" displayng and in the volume bar: I have to substituite them? Someone have done it before? It's possible to remove the front panel or I have to disasseble all the pc
    Or it's a firmware problem?
I also thank all people that cured the section of optical devices compatibility: last week I bought a new Pioneer 111D, because my LG GSA-4167B was not suitable in the PC mode, for DVD playback.
In fact I had many problems for the DVD fluently playback: I have spent 4 months trying new video codecs and also substituting the video card, then I finally have understood that was an optical device problem.
The Pioneer 111D was perfect in the PC mode, but then I had problems for HI-FI playing mode
Then I finally used my old Pioneer 108, that I had in the old desktop, and all work (I pray) fine both in HI-FI and PC mode.
I'll be very happy also to describe to whom that will ask me, my experience with the Mega 180 "assembling", during the last year, hoping it could be useful for other people.
    Thanx

Initially, you might just hook your ring to a case structure to
    determine which frame exe
cutes. You can put the terminals for the
Booleans in the different diagrams and about the only other thing to
keep in mind is that you probably want a delay in the loop.

  • Mega 180 drivers, MSI website borked?

hi i'm trying to get the drivers for my Mega 180
i've tired using the automated driver updated but it finds nothing.

i've tried on two different pcs with ie and chrome
anyone know where i can get the drivers?
i specifically need the onboard graphics and nvidia chipset...

The europe site works, so I'd suggest you download the drivers from there: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=134&prod_no=40

  • MSI Media Live -- Mega 180 all over again???

Well, since there isn't a forum dedicated to the MSI Media Live barebones, I figured I post it here. Let me just start off by saying that I was very hesitant to buy another MSI barebones after the last overheating fiasco with the Mega 180 that I previously purchased. So, I bought the Media Live, along with 2GB of RAM and an AMD 5200+ X2 CPU and a 320GB SATA drive.
I tried installing Windows Media Center 2005. It installed but getting it to boot reliably each and every time without a blue screen proved to be an impossible task. I switched the CPU, the memory and the HD with no change. One thing that did strike me is the VGA BIOS on the system that states that it's not for production use. So, I went and purchased Vista Ultimate. That installed fine and it boots up with no blue screens which is a good thing. Of course, vista is very buggy and annoying and I would love to put MCE 2005 back on this thing. There are absolutely no driver/bios updates on the MSI Media Live barebones. I understang that it's new, but a pre-production VGA bios is unacceptable. Oh yeah, I forgot the most annoying thing about it. The front slot to feed a CD/DVD does not align properly with the actual optical drive, so when you eject cd/DVD it gets stuck. That of course is a workmanship issue. I would love to get a new front that actually  works for this.

Well, the link doesn't work. It takes me to the MSI global site. Why should I contact the reseller? It's not their fault MSI has a QA problem! It's not like the flip door on the Mega 180 ever worked right anyways, did it? It's not like the Mega 180 didn't get hot as hell, but MSI continued to sell it, didn't they? Any other manufacturer would have recalled all the units instead of having posts on their forums on how to cool down your mega 180 and by the way, by following these instructions you invalidate your warranty, blah blah blah!. I mean seriously, who does that?
There is nothing to adjust on the drive cage as far as I can tell. I think it's a poorly designed front. I'm sure I'm going to end up being yet another beta tester for MSI with this unit just like I was with the Mega 180. I just wish the media live doesn't end up being the same crap that the mega 180 was.
I'm sure this topic will be censored by MSI. I hope not, because it will be re-posted on anandtech as well as hardocp and any other forums that I see fit. All I want is a properly working unit without me having to do any freaking adjustments to it. I don't think it's too much to ask from a manufacturer. I'm simply not going to take it in the rear from MSI on this one!!! Once was enough. This time I will make a big stink about it.
