  • Please help, mega 180 won't boot, urgent

    All all...
I am in deep deep trouble... My mega 180 won't boot, it won't display bios, I tried the reset jumper, unplug the pc, didn't work...
It runs ok with the hi-fi mode. I was using an add on AGP card, but now I unpluged it and trying to use the onboard card. Still nothing is displayed, I want to do a BIOS recovery, but mega 180 doesn't have floppy drive, what can I do? please help.#
    Many Thx
    Kevin

Was your system working and it stopped ? If so what did you last change ?
Or are you setting it up for the first time and it won't boot ?
What brand of memory and which CPU ?
As Ortrofox says... remove everything you've added. Graphics card, tv tuner, sound card. Then follow the reset to factory defaults in the manual.
Does anything happen at all when you try to boot ?  Fan spins ? screen clears ? keyboard lights blink ? beeps ? Is the lan light on in the back ? If you have an optical mouse is the mouse light on ?
Answers to these questions should let us give you some suggestions of other things to try.
    Good luck

spilled liquid on MacBook Pro - won't start - any suggestions?

Thank you both for your responses! I watched a video on how to remove the hard drive - special tork(?) screwdriver and too many steps for me to feel confident about doing it myself, so I took the computer to an Apple Store - and thank God, the hard drive appeared undamaged - they are transferring the data to a new Macbook Pro. The loss of data was the scariest part, so I am breathing again!
The laptop was three years old, I was hoping for another year or so before upgrading, but such is life. I appreciate your upfront advice.

Have you tried scanning with Image Capture instead?

  • MEGA 651 doesn't boot

    Hi everyone,
I am using the mega651 for 1.5 years, almost without problems. Yesterday I tried to reboot the box, it shut down properly, but instead of booting, only psu and gpu fan started, the cpu fan did not, and it didn't show any POST Messages. I checked all cables, but they seem to be ok
I built out my graphics card, and it worked, then I again tried with the card, and it worked too. Ok, panic over,
Today I tried to boot the box, and the same problem occured (with and without gpu)
It seems like it's booting when it wants too...
    my specs:
    mega651
    p4"northwood"2.8ghz
    sapphire x800se
    512Mb infineon DDR400 Ram
    LG GSA 4167B DVD+/-RW
    Any Idea?

Hi Stu. Sorry if U feel offended by my message. I've spent a lot of time trying to find the reasons (at least) of this strange behaviour of this barebone. I've looked through russian forums (I'm from Russia) and I see that a lot of people have met the same problem for the last 1.5 years. So, if people in different countries meet the same problem with the same product then the absence of MSI's recommendations shows the level of their "respect". Of course I'd like to get your help if it is possible. My 651 optional devices are:
    P4 2.4 MHz, 512 MB, Radeon 7500, 80 GB Barracuda 7200.7, MS-8216S DVD
Everithing was OK for the first 1.5 year, but last winter brought the problem described by many other people: the device comes "freezed" in 1 second after pressing "PC" button on front panel. Fans are working, PC LED lights, display is black, device doesn't respond to any buttons. The only way to make it alive again is to disconnect every wire from it, then "clear CMOS" with corresponding pin and leave barebone unplugged for a couple of days (a few hours don't help ). Idea about capacitors is just a kind of a logical trick: batteries and capacitors use to loose their prferences with time, other elements use to become "not working at all"... I can change capacitors in PSU for new (good) ones, but a lot of people say that changing PSU hasn't helped. So should I try to spend time (and capacitors:) ) for this? (I'm not kidding, it's a real question). In Russian forums some posts say that different Service centers declare the reason of this behaviour as "undefineable motherboard problem" But during the last few months every PSU voltage have lost approx. 15% of nominal value! (f.e. +12V could become +10.3V and so on)! Something definitely keeps on dieing in PSU! Maybe in motherboard too? Anyway I'm writing this message on my Mega 651, but I never know when it stops again :( Last time it was dead for a week!

  • Mac Mini Core 2 Duo died and now won't boot - any help or advice appreciated...

    Hi, all
I have a core 2 duo Mac Mini (possibly a 2008 model?) which has been retro-fitted with a superdrive at some point in its life and was running Lion.
It used to be left running 24/7, but one day I returned to find it powered down and it will not boot up at all now. Applying power and then pressing the power button results in the cpu fan starting, and the HD spinning up - the white power indicator lights steady, but other than that there is no sign of life - no noises, beeps, no display, nothing.
I'm not averse to getting the lid off (I've opened up a fair few mini's before ) so any suggestions as to what my next step should be?
As an aside, the Intel minis have a small push button on the logic board, about half-way down the right hand side - what is this for?
Many thanks in advance for any help and advice you may be able to offer.
    O.

    Thanks for your reply, mooblie...
I have tried the SMC reset (which, unless I have misunderstood occurs as a result of removing all power for a while then reconnecting the psu and turning on as normal after a few seconds delay) with no luck.
The PRAM reset is a bit of a problem, though, as I do not appear to have any keyboard function - I'm using an aluminium Apple keyboard and mighty mouse (both are the wired variety, plugged into separate USB ports), but the 'boot' process doesn't appear to get far enough to enable operationof the keyboard (shift lock light doesn't light if appropriate key pressed), so I can't give it the 4-finger death grip at power up.   The mouse illuminates, and I've tried all 4 USB ports, BTW...
I forgot to add to the previous post that there is 2GB RAM fitted, and both Bluetooth and Airport.
    O.

  • [Solved] PC won't boot any longer...

I am using Syslinux as boot manager and BIOS for disk access... Does anyone know of any reason this has happend?
    Regards,

Nope, nothing else related to the boot... Yes, I thought about trying to install syslinux again as the next step, just had to backup my pc first, just in case... (of course this happend at the same time as I have deleted my NAS because I am changing my harddisks in my NAS.... :-|)
I just thought I should check if it was only me or not first...  I will try different thing tonight to get my PC booting again....

  • Bought audiobook, plays on computer, but not on my touch. It shows it in audiobooks but it won't play.any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!

Bought audiobook in iTunes store, can play it on my computer, but not my touch. It shows up in my audio book file under music but it won't play. Any suggestions on how to fix this? (I tried making it into a playlist but when I synced it, it don't show up on the Touch)

I could not find an option to "report a problem".
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • How do I get iCal to sync to my iphone 4. It used to work and now it won't. Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

How do I get iCal on my Mac to sync with my iphone 4.
It used to work and now it doesn't.
I am not on MobileMe or the Cloud.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

    Hi Arezzo
I'm asuming you are using iTunes then to sync? this can be done over WiFi or the USB cable.
Review your setting for the calendar sync once iTunes is open and your iPhone is connected. Make sure your Calendars are selected to sync that you need. By default all calendars will.
So the option i have for you is to reset the sync service and this will reset those settings in iTunes. Meaning that you will have to switch them on again in iTunes to sync. But this mostly clears unresolved sync issues.
Please do yourself a favour and hit backup in iTunes before doing any testing. iTunes will then keep a local backup of your iPhone in case of any data loss.
    {added}
open Terminal from your Utilities folder and paste this command in to reset. OS X 10.6 - 10.8
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full [press Enter]
if it prompts for a password, just type your password and hit [Enter] again.
Open iTunes then set your syncs up and it should then carry on again.

  • My iPad was printing to my HP wireless printer and now it won't..any suggestions on what I might try to get it back?

I was able to print from my iPad to my wireless HP printer and now I can't.  Any suggestions on what to do to get it back?  Will resetting network settings help?

Are you getting any error messages - or is it just saying No Printers Found - if the latter this has happened to me - I have 2 networks on my airport express (my network and one for guest access0 - sometimes my iPad switches to the guest network which does not have wireless printer on it ( i dont know why it does this) - if i switch the iPad back to my network the printer shows up again
In fact see the No Printers Found message is a pretty good indication that the iPad has switched to the guest network

  • Meg 180 won't boot from HDD

Repair install of Windows XP appeared to work perfectly, but after install and removal of XP install disk PC wouldn't boot.  Noticed initially that IDE drive detect took approxiamtely 90 seconds.  Tried a repair of boot sector and MBR, no help.  Notice during MBR repair that drive was showing as HDD 2?  Attempted boot device order in all possible combintations, (CD, HDD0, HDD1, HDD2, etc,) no help.Moved drive to another computer, boots normally.
Attached HDD to IDE CD-ROM channel in Mega.  Drive detect occurrs instantly and computer boots normally.  I'd try swapping cables, but that requires more surgery than I feel comfortable with, considering the warranty.  Anyone else seen this problem?
Any or all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It turns out the Mega 180 primary HDD channel doesn't like Western Digital drives configured with the jumper in the Master position.  As Wonkanoby pointed out, the Western Digital drives are defaulted to Master with no jumper.  No other controller has appeared to care yet, but obviously the Mega primary channel does.  Thanks for all of the tips and especially to Wonkanoby who provided the info that cured the problem.  The Mega is up and running now and happily playing DVD's.

  • HELP! CD player suddenly won't boot any startup disk.

Help! I am being swamped with problems stemming from my attempt to upgrade to OS X. Can anyone help me plug the holes in my boat? I am including as much info as I can because I notice that requests like mine often generate a lot of questions about basic things. So, here it goes ... and thanks for your thoughts, Ed T. in Newburyport, MA. OK to send ideas to me [email protected]
Goal: install OX 10.3.5 (Panther) on my Mac G4 Ethernet Gigabit machine by booting from the CD install disk. I am using a full retail version (black with silver “X” v 10.3.5).
Problem: neither internal CD-Rom not external Fire Wire CD-ROM player/recorder will boot from 9.1 or 9.2 startup disks. These disks (DiskWarrior and Apple OS X insdatll disk #1) booted OK until I made upgrade preparations to get G4 and OS 9.2.2.
About two weeks ago I installed ViaVoice v2.01 Enhanced Edition and did a practice reading. I just mention this in case it might be relevant.
After installing the second HD I moved all of the document files off the original HD to the new one. I left all the applications on the original HD. I ran DiskWarrior and rebuilt the desktop for each drive. I check for fragmentation and optimized the disks which ran smoothly.
Hardware: G4 Ethernet Gigabit CPU (purchased new 2001 with RAM upgraded to 256 Mb and with an internal CD-ROM player) which uses the original processor, Que Fire external CD recorder/player connected via Firewire, Airport card upgrade and white domed Airport Hub, older HP 55M laser printer connected with an Assante Bridge unit, a cable internet box (Motorola) connected to the Airport unit. Monitor (an older SONY Multiscan 100ES purchased at SeaMUG swap meet). USB 4 jack hub (Netgear Dual Speed DS104). New external hard drive (an OWC Mercury Ultra AL 250 Gb USB/Fire Wire) connected via Fire Wire cable.
Upgrade preparations - I added some new items:
1.) I increased the original 256 RAM by installing (adding) two 512 cards from Other World Computing (OWC at MacSales.com), and ...
2.) a new ATA internal 80 Gb Hitachi hard drive (also from OWC) fitted onto the “sled” atop the original 40 Gb HD. NOTE: both drives are format extended (HFS+).
Next, I backed up original 40 Gb hard drive to my new OWC Mercury 250 Gb external HD using Retrospect.
Software: I did the following activities according upgrade decision lists from MacFixit and Apple Support Discussion Group. I did the following:
1.) Updated OS 9.2.2 firmware to v4.2.8 which I downloaded from Apple,
NOTE: this procedure involved holding in the programmer’s button (the little recessed one below the big startup button and to the right of the little reboot button) and then pressing the startup button until I heard a long tone. I released the programmer’s button and the firmware update completed successfully.
2.) I did not check for external Hard Drive firmware updates because drive is one month old, but I did disconnect the Firewire cable during the following activities,
3.) I have no “haxies” to update,
4.) There was no Stuffit Deluxe software to de-activate,
5.) Removed extra start up items (ViaVoice).
6.) Disconnected all non-Apple USB hub hardware.
6.) Booted from OS X install disk ( in the internal player) and ...
7.) used Disk Utility to check/repair both hard drives.
Here is where the PROBLEMS STARTED.
8.) I intended to boot from the DiskWarrior CD in order to run its tests on both HD’s. The DISK WOULD NOT BOOT. Instead, the screen went gray and I had to eject the disk and use the restart button.
9.) Next I tried to boot from the OS X Install CD as I did before. The screen went gray, a large gray Apple logo appeared followed by a white print on BLACK KERNEL PANIC screen.
10.) Each of the CD’s seems to mount OK and I can access and use the utilities BUT I CANNOT USE THEM AS A START UP DISK ANYMORE. I have tried the “press the C key” method and the Start up Disk control panel designation method without success.
What is the best way to get back the use of the “C” key in order to boot from the CD. And, since I have two drives, could I use one as the assigned start up in system 9.2.2, and used the OS X Install disk to get the OS X onto the other disk.
My efforts to solve this problem have only made matters worse. My new HD won’t mount and can’t be repaired by Tech Tool Pro 2.5. I may have to use the file recovery feature to retrieve what files I can and then re-initialize it. The original HD is also reporting damage but so far it will start up. All the applications are on it, it is the startup disk so I cannot effectively use my tools to work on it.
Please help me to get back to dry land and install OS 10.3.5. Many thanks in advance.

Hello! First, you know now that you should never do multiple upgrades at the same time. That said I'd first look at the most likely which is an error in the hard drives. Often cable select won't work. Make sure the drive jumpered master is on the end of the ribbon away from the motherboard and the one jumpered slave is on the middle connector. New drives are usually jumpered either master or cable select and if you installed it as a slave without proper jumpering then that's the most likely place to start. Post back when you're sure the drives are physically connected properly. Tom

  • My podcast app won't open, any suggestions?

when i click on the app get a blank white screen then goes back to main screen.  have tried re-starting.

    This is what I did:
1a. Podcasts app deleted from the iPhone.  Doesn't show on any of the home screens on the iPhone.  The button next to the Podcasts app in iTunes says "Install".  Synching the iPhone with iTunes generates the message "The Podcasts app is not installed on 'Maggie's iPhone 4', so you will not be able to play podcasts on your iPhone"
1b. Clicked the "Install" button for the Podcasts app in iTunes.  It now displays "Will Install"
1c. Clicked "Apply" in iTunes to start iPhone sync.  iTunes shows "Copying 1 of 1: Podcasts"
1d. Podcasts app icon is shown correctly on one of the iPhone home screens.  Previously, the Podcast app icon was a generic placeholder icon.
1e. Resyched iPhone and launched Podcasts app.  Everything now working properly.
2 & 3. Didn't have to perform these steps, which implies that earlier suggestions contributed to the fix.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Mega 180 won't boot with USB 2.0 device

Well, like a lot of others here I've managed to put the Mega Puzzle 180 together and get it working fairly well. The documentation is dismal and the included "home theater" app is not even half baked yet. The one serious problem I haven't solved yet is that the machine will hang on boot if the USB 2.0 video capture device I bought is inserted. It brings up the green/white AGP 8X screen and just hangs there. It hangs using either the front or rear USB ports, speaking of which it would be nice if they were documented properly as the front being USB 1.1 only.
Has anyone else seen this behavior ?
And if anyone is keeping track, the Toshiba SD-R5112 DVD-R drive works perfectly(as long as your remove the front bezels).
It's an interesting product that looks cool as hell, but doesn't quite work as well as it looks...
    CD

    Just a thought....
You can disable the Full Screen Logo in bios, and then observe where it's hanging.
On another forum, with completely different hardware/usb devices [DV Encoders] a similar problem was reported. It was found that Norton AV was constantly scanning the USB ports, assuming they were drives. Disabling Auto Protect enabled the boot process, and then were able to configure NAV to remove checking on the suspect ports [drives], and solved the problem.
May not apply in this situation......
